Meatloaf’s legal name was Michael Lee Aday. His father was an alcoholic. He tried to kill Meatloaf with a knife when he was 16 years old. Meatloaf took the small inheritance his mother had left him and ran away. Meatloaf has been in films, off-broadway, broadway, and other singers musical videos. He was so talented. Jim Steinman wrote most of Meatloaf’s songs together they created Masterpieces pure and simple. Regardless of his weight Meatloaf had that swagger that was undeniable.

Jim Steinman (piano) wrote all of the songs on this album. Unfortunately, we lost both of them within a few of months of each other.😇😇😭😭 I still have this album on vinyl. "Yes, I know you're lookin' for a ruby in a mountain of rocks, but there ain't no coupe deVille hiding at the bottom of a crackerjack box". You MUST check out, "Paradise by the dashboard lights".
You’re both being like it’s all about the physical. His emotions are much apart of it-he needs her. He’s still in love with the woman who broke his heart when she told him the same thing and can not/will not get hurt that badly again.
Meat Loaf is one of my favorite singers of all time. The passion he would put into his songs and how much he gave of himself to his fans and audience is unmatched by anyone. Don, you’re really shallow that you have to make a comment about Meat’s weight. And while you’re doing it, make fun of another great singer who also gave so much of himself to his fans and audience. Both of which were some of the biggest hearted people in the business. Don, I guess you haven’t looked in the mirror lately, because judging you from just your looks, ummm you do not have it going on! Meat Loaf was a beautiful man. True beauty comes from inside and shines through. You guys are always talking about what’s wrong with the world today, hello, you are if that’s the way you think. Judging someone by their size or their looks is no better than someone who judges a person by their color (race). Then to laugh throughout, the guy in the song is not trying to get into the girls pants, this is not Paradise By The Dash Board Lights. This guy in the song, is talking to his girlfriend and explaining his feelings. He’s already gotten into her pants. She’s upset with him because she doesn’t hear what she wants, which is I love you. You have to respect that the guy in the song doesn’t just lie to her and tells her what she wants to hear. No , he is brutally honest with her. And you got it right at the end, where when someone hurts you, many times it spills over into other relationships and the hurt goes on. Hence the song Love Hurts by Nazareth. This is a brilliantly written song by the late great Jim Steinman. A master with words and music. Meat Loaf is the vessel used to sing and convey the emotion in the song, which he does perfectly. Or maybe you guys are laughing because you just can’t handle something so deep when there is another guy around, so you have to make light of it and laugh. I can understand if it’s not your cup of tea. Hey there’s a lot of people who do not like Meat Loaf’s music. That’s ok. But you cannot deny the talent of the writing, and the talent of Meat Loaf’s singing and performance. Flawless. Now to address the name Meat Loaf, he took the name because it was a nickname and then he just ran with it. A nickname he did not give himself. First of all his father called him Meat when he was a young child because he was so big. The second person who added to the name was his high school football coach, when Meat stepped on his foot one day at practice, the coach made a reference to Meatloaf, and combined that with his dad calling him Meat, it just stuck. Meat Loaf. And with that, it’s history. A great stage name. One thing he could not stand is when people put the names together as meatloaf, he said it is split into two words. That he did, Meat Loaf! Now onto other great music of his, my favorite song of his is from the Bat Out of Hell album, “For Crying Out Loud”, and in case you didn’t know - all of the songs on the album were written by Jim Steinman. Bat Out of Hell is also great from the album. Well the whole album is good. Anyway….For Crying Out Loud , was one of Meat’s favorite songs too, and he described it as the greatest love song ever written. Another great song of his is “I Couldn’t Have Said It Better”. Both worth a listen. I will thank you for continuing your reaction to Meat Loaf’s music. If you ever want to watch a very cool video, check out the Meat Loafs Storytellers video by VH1. I think they call them unplugged now, but his was called storytellers. Also Meat Loaf Legacy - 2007 In Search of Paradise. Meat Loaf Legacy - 2023 by Meat’s Daughters. Oh and if you haven’t heard Meat Loaf singing the National Anthem at the 1994 All Star Game (baseball). It’s a must! FANTASTIC. Also, VH1 actually made a movie about Meat’s life, Meat Loaf did not play in it, it’s called Meat Loaf to Hell and Back (a 2000 TV movie). All of these are on UA-cam.
I never considered this a “hit it then quit it” song. He didn’t end with just wanting her. The relationship was obviously not just going for a week or two as evidenced by them arguing about the subject many times. They may have started out that way but didn’t stay that way. He needs her.
His dad nicknamed him almost as soon as they brought him home from the hospital. His dad saw him wrapped in a blanket and said that he looked like a meat loaf and the name stuck!
He got the nickname from his football coach. His father did say he looked like 9 pounds of ground beef at the hospital when he was born. But, Meat Loaf told Oprah Winfrey he received the "Loaf" half of his nickname in eighth grade, when he "stepped on a coach's foot and he screamed, 'Get off my foot, you hunk of meatloaf!' "
Meatloaf’s music & voice were BEYOND his looks & we all appreciated that back then … making “Don’t judge a book” the perfect reference for him♥️🎶Legend
😊❤ Hi guys, I watched a live interview with Meatloaf and the first thing they addressed was his name! 😅 His dad called him Meat from the moment he saw him! His dad said that he looked like 10 lbs of ground beef! 😮 He even made the nurse write Meat on the name card! Then when he was in high school someone wrote 'Meatloaf' on his locker; the new nickname stuck and that's where it came from. 😊 His real name was Marvin Lee Aday but he preferred to be called Meat. 😊❤❤
You seem to enjoy the songs about looking back on your life and how the old memories can come back through music we listen to then and now. Check out Meat loaf official video for his song “ Objects in the Rearview Mirror “ that was directed by famous Hollywood director Michael Bay …. The song is powerful and even tells the true story of Meat Loaf’s alcoholic dad use to beat him to point he finally had to run away from home to escape the abuse. A story of looking back on your first love and how fast time goes by and though far in the past , “those memories / objects may appear closer than they really are “
He loved her in the past...gave her everything he had, but, she never loved him back...now shes back but, he can NEVER LOVE her again...too little, too late. ❤😢
I always took it and thought I remembered it was because she hurt him and now he's hurting someone because he's not over the first one who told him that. She told him that because someone hurt her. Basically about being jaded
Not only was meatloaf, one of the nicest fellows you ever wanna meet?He was just genuinely nice to everybody. He was in Dallas. First they went to the aitport too see JFK arrival. The next thing they knew a Secert Service Agent waving them over. He offered $100 to take to the hospital. It's on a special on Meat Loaf. On they news that night footage of a hollcopter photograph Mea Loaf in the parking lot!
Meatloaf before he died was on Huckabee show, and told the story about him and his friends were in Dallas Texas hoping to see JFK drive by them when he was shot and killed. How devastated they were, i know i cried walking home from school.
Watch some of the later interviews with Meatloaf before he passed! He was extremely intelligent and a great actor! He played a great part in "Fight Club" Listen to him telling the story of how he was local when President Kennedy was assassinated! Its something else! Actually governor Huckabee interviewed him and they talked about it! These reactions are great guys! 👍
I just wrote about this too! I cried all the way home from school when I heard about JFK. It's why I think it's pathetic that RKjr Biden isn't giving him secret service.
So much fun watching you share your ML finds with your friends! I love Jim Steinman’s ridiculous lyrics, and how ML delivers with such conviction. This song is a perfect example. I’m Gonna Love Her for Both of Us is another example…kinda like Jessie’s Girl wirh a crazy Steinman twist. And, yay, a video so you can get the full ML treatment. And as mentioned in comments, For Crying Out Loud is breathtaking.
From what I've heard the Jim Steinman wrote a musical in college that was a modern retelling of Peter Pan. The album Bat Out of Hell was a retooling of that original piece. Hence how theatrical it is and the themes make a lot of sense in that context
❤ I ALWAYS love his live performances. They were like watching a movie or a play while you were entertained with some of the best lyrics and great voices of all of the characters singing the songs. Music was also the best.
Meatloaf (Michael Aday )has a long history. in addition to Fight Club he perform on and off Broadway in the musical Hair. He also performed in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny, Sausage Party, Wayne's World and a dozen more films. Jim Steinman wrote many of Meatloaf's songs.
I love these songs from Meat Loaf that are witty and plays on words! However, my favorite is one called "Objects in the Rear View Mirror May Appear Closer Than They Are". It is semi-autobiographical and gives you a totally different vibe. It is truly going down a very dark rabbit hole. If you choose to react to it, please play the official music video where it is live action - looks like a mini movie with Meat Loaf in it. And congrats on the new baby coming soon! Sending prayers for a quick delivery and healthy Mama and baby! Love your channel!
The look on Don Wanna Be back in house when Meatloaf says you " "but there ain't no Coupe dah ville hiding at the bottom of a CrackerJack Box" is mind blowing, Don you look like your jaw is gonna hit the floor.. I love it Facial expressions ... says so much and I'm loving it !!! Meatloaf is great music is incredible truth in life LMPWAO RN!!😂😂😂😂 PRICELESS Your eyes are popping too lol ohmygosh loving it. Don You rock I love when ya listen in... this is the best reaction simply PRICELESS
I watched a documentary on Meat Loaf. When he wrote this, he explained what he wrote. The girl at the beginning of the song is the same one that broke his heart.
I know you’re gonna love this! My story behind this song is that my EX wouldn’t commit. We were together for 14 years. This ….THIS song ended up being the one song he said was our song. When he dedicated it to “us” …I saw him for what he was and left. It really put into perspective what I couldn’t figure out! His heart breaker was a girl named Mary from his college days.
What’s funny is that the studio musicians that recorded the album with him thought the whole thing was some kind of joke, due to his size, the lyrics, an style of his songs. They did not expect it to go anywhere. The woman that sang with him on Paradise by the dashboard light was a studio singer (not the same one as in the video). She didn’t expect the album to be successful and didn’t want to be associated with it and is listed under a fake name on the album jacket. I imagine they were all shocked that it became one of the biggest selling records of all time.
Meatloaf 's name actually came from an incredibly dark place. His abusive dad used to lock him in a wire dog kennel, beat him and constantly humiliate him - calling him meatloaf because that's what he had instead of brains and because he ate too much. Meatloaf had it all going on! He was a rock god and a tortured artist. He got any woman he looked at. You all think he's just some fat dude but, trust me, women fought over him.
Oh my gosh! I know every word by heart.😂 Geesh this takes me back to teen years. Heartbreaking. Whew. I hear heartbreak in his voice. It took the raw lyrical perfection of those theater chops of his, to pull off the song. He's perfect. I agree w others here - this is a song about having loved, not been loved back, and now having a battered heart...existing in a state of grief over that unrequited lost love, maybe it's some form of arrested emotional development...and tho the person wants someone in their life, understands they are lonely and needs someone in their life, they haven't made it through the valley of grief. They simply are not whole. They don't think they can be what the partner is asking. He's pretty much sharing that he's broken. He'll give what he's got, but he knows it's not enough. The recipient of the conversation, having received this flat, bald unvarnished honesty, can now choose what happens next.
Talking about him being in Fight Club, he is also Eddie in Rocky Horror Picture Show with one song, "Hot Patootie" and yes, he killed it, until he died.
The only thing I love more than the memories of meatloaf are watching you guys discover meatloaf. He could take a song and turn it into a mini movie and you fell for it every time. I used to have to take a 2-hour drive to visit my parents. I was 18 and wanted to go home about once a month from my job 2 hours back home to see my parents. I was driving through the dark for about an hour and a half of those 2 hours and there was no better company for me in the seventies and meatloaf or Aerosmith or Led Zeppelin or the who Elvis goes on. Meatloaf was a rock opera. And a damn good one
Like i said when you reacted to another Meatloaf vide ( dashboard ride) when i saw him in London, England he was " show to see" everyone wanted to get a hold of a ticket! Did you ever hear or see the band "Blues Travelers" Another plus size lead singer who can wail on the harmonica like nobodys business!
I love this song ❤ When I told my ex, I wanted a divorce due to HIS extracurricular activities. He was so upset, he played this song over over, saying I was the one that didnt love him, two out of three ain't bad, but he's the one that cheated.
It’s NOT about hit it & quit it. He says he only loved one woman & she left him, now he’s UNABLE to love another & is just being honest that he can give everything BUT his heart

People seem to miss the fact that he's 100% honest with her. He flat tells her he doesn't love her instead of lying just so he can "hit it & quit it."
A very talented guy. RIP.
I love how you do a reaction then share your experience with your friends so they to can enjoy. Thanks
Meatloaf before he died was on Huckabee show, and told the story about him and his friends were in Dallas Texas hoping to see JFK drive by them when he was shot and killed. How devastated they were, i know i cried walking home from school.
He had the best voice.
Watch some of the later interviews with Meatloaf before he passed! He was extremely intelligent and a great actor! He played a great part in "Fight Club"
Listen to him telling the story of how he was local when President Kennedy was assassinated! Its something else! Actually governor Huckabee interviewed him and they talked about it! These reactions are great guys! 👍
Guess you knew the fight club thing! 🤣 however the story about him being in Dallas when Kennedy was assassinated is even better!
I just wrote about this too! I cried all the way home from school when I heard about JFK. It's why I think it's pathetic that RKjr Biden isn't giving him secret service.
Check out his duet with Cher, "A real dead ringer for love"
My friends and I wore out this cassette back in the mid 80s LOL
a much overlooked song (and one of his best ) has to be .. for crying out loud , hope you give it a listen
I knew it was coming & I still laughed at your reaction!
Top five Love song of All time is on the same album as this one and is titled. For Crying Out Loud.
Jim Steinman is also the pianist seen in this video and several other Meat Loaf videos.
Congratulations to you and your wife on the bundle of joy coming.
I was blessed enough see him live. There are no words to describe it!
" On a Hot Summer Night " is another shocker.
BP, have you ever seen the Rocky Horror Picture Show?
Meatloaf was in that and definitely a must see.
Indeed...a GREAT movie! Jagger wanted the lead ,but Tim Curry( and rightly so) got it !
Not very nice Donny boy ....check out his life history ...
Fun fact since you said Elvis. This song was written based off of Elvis's I want you, I need you, I love you
Bat out of Hell is another great story song!!!! Love Love Love his voice!!!!
I love when you share your discoveries with others, especially the younger guys! Keep it up!!!
Totally brings me back to my childhood. I thought this was the prettiest song. 😅
You two together is hilarious. I loved this reaction. Thanks Guys you always put a smile on my face with the crazy shit you say. ❤
Watching you guys react to this performance video totally made my night - needed a good laugh. Thank you! 🤣
Love this song ❤
The look on Don Wanna Be back in house when Meatloaf says you " "but there ain't no Coupe dah ville hiding at the bottom of a CrackerJack Box" is mind blowing, Don you look like your jaw is gonna hit the floor.. I love it Facial expressions ... says so much and I'm loving it !!!
Meatloaf is great music is incredible truth in life
LMPWAO RN!!😂😂😂😂
PRICELESS Your eyes are popping too lol ohmygosh loving it.
Don You rock I love when ya listen in... this is the best reaction simply PRICELESS
That is a great way to start the weekend! Y’all had me laughing so hard!❤️🔥✌🏻🫶🏻
I've always loved this song. Thanks for playing this & your comments.
Meatloaf was a fantastic singer. ❤️✌🏻🎶
I watched a documentary on Meat Loaf. When he wrote this, he explained what he wrote. The girl at the beginning of the song is the same one that broke his heart.
His heart was in the song
I think Don is the best person you have on with you, you all crack me up. Great show as always.
The one thing this song is being Honest..Invisine that.
Meat Loaf didn’t write these songs, Jim Steinman did. Jim plays the piano here. Two Out Of Three Ain’t Bad was the first song to chart for Meat Loaf.
Artist you may want to consider for reactions - Merle Haggard, Jim Croce and Jimmy Buffett
I can sit and listen to Meatloaf all day every day!!
I LOVE how everyone reacts the same to this - you burst out laughing - but then at the end it flips the script and it makes sense. It's great!
His High School football coach gave Him the name.
One of my all time fave songs👌🏼
What’s funny is that the studio musicians that recorded the album with him thought the whole thing was some kind of joke, due to his size, the lyrics, an style of his songs. They did not expect it to go anywhere. The woman that sang with him on Paradise by the dashboard light was a studio singer (not the same one as in the video). She didn’t expect the album to be successful and didn’t want to be associated with it and is listed under a fake name on the album jacket. I imagine they were all shocked that it became one of the biggest selling records of all time.
One fun fact. One of Meatloaf's nicknames is The Sex God. There were always girls at his concerts with signs saying Meatloaf is a Sex God
One of the bootleg concerts I have is "Sex god in concert".
He did a wonderful duet with Cher... Dead Ringer for Love.
I had no idea, I don't understand why he kept that name after all that
Ew. Thirsty $$ girls.... empty affection. 😢🙄🤬
@@karlweir3198So he could own it. He took the name and all the power that came with it. Nobody could use it without knowing who he was.
@@barbaramatthews4735 Good for him he was amazing man.
Holy shit listen to he whole album.
This is my favorite Meatloaf song
She got the two best of the three. Love is a fleeting construct and so situational. Want and need are real.
Rock opera at it's best. He was part of the Rocky Horror Picture Show. The dude on the motorcycle 🏍
Talking about him being in Fight Club, he is also Eddie in Rocky Horror Picture Show with one song, "Hot Patootie" and yes, he killed it, until he died.
Unforgettable performance
Pure raw emotional pain and what is his honest feelings
This song never fails to touch my entire being heart, body and soul
You two had me laughing so hard. I knew you would give a great reaction to this! And I am still laughing at the “ moist matador” 😂😂😂😂😂
Their song "BLUES TRAVELERS" WAS Hook 👍
Give him credit for being great singer and writer!
You're slowly listening to the entire Bat Out of Hell album.
You'll lose your shit when you hear the title record.
BOOH is probably my fav. So fun and those final notes OMG
I love this song ❤ When I told my ex, I wanted a divorce due to HIS extracurricular activities. He was so upset, he played this song over over, saying I was the one that didnt love him, two out of three ain't bad, but he's the one that cheated.
Paradise by the dashboard light is definitely a must to listen to
His family called him Meat from the time he was young, so he didn't name himself. He added loaf for his stage name.
