This video is great, thanks. I live in Toronto but my Grandparents lived in Hunstanton and my Mum took me there every few years to see them. Lots of memories of walking all over town with them, to the lighthouse, to the cliffs, cockling when the tide was out so far you couldn't even see the water anymore. Fish and chips on the way home from the place near the caravan park, with my Grandmother waiting at home with the plates warmed. A jam doughnut for dessert if I was lucky. My last visit was 2012 and you know, as far as small towns go, Hunstanton actually holds up well. It has a lot of charm.
Thanks for uploading this! I lived in Hunstanton for around 2 years in the early 90's before moving back home to Northumberland, this video brings back a lot of memories, and some bits I did'nt actually get to see, due to work and the like. This includes the massive beach beside the cliffs! I never knew that was there, I always hung around the more central parts of the town, so thank you for that!
My grandparents then my dad lived in Hunstanton from 1964/65 so every year from then to 2012 when dad passed at least one week was spent in Sunny Hunny, some things have changed and some are crazily the same.
Hunstanton is our go to town. It is lovely to walk from the old beach through the dunes to the life guard station to the craft barns which leads back along the cliff to the lighthouse. It is great to see it, we are still staying local for a bit longer but I do miss it. So a huge thank you for sharing.
That was brilliant absolutely love Hunstanton so many memories from staying there on searles when I was a kid the fair and beach haven’t changed much , my son is six and loves watching your videos .
Love Hunstanton, lots of great memories. Used to stay at Searles in the log cabins, have camped there before too. Wonder if anyone else remembers the Men in Black cardboard cut out in the security hut at the exit, that thing was there for years!
I have lived in Hunstanton my whole life, its nice to see videos about our town. quite a bit has changed in the last 15 years. and also the wash monsters you talk about are owned by the Searle family who own searles caravan park which is where i have worked for 7 years now. very enjoyable video to watch just subscribed :)
My Gran had a van on Searles, my 1st boyfriend was ❤Will of Willy the Wash Monster back in the 70's when I was 17 (65) now! Met him in the Kit Kat bar 🍻 As I recall the monster was no more than a skip on wheels, well I missed my chance to be part of the Searle empire? Who knows?❤
this was such a nostalgic video, i loved walking from heacham to hunstanton and back as a kid, makes me realise how lucky i was to get to see that part of the coast every weekend
I visited Hunstanton in 1993 . I was visiting relatives of the bfi I had at the time .loved the little town and arcade . The beach was lovely . It’s nice to see it’s still the same as I remember it .
The pier stood till the winter of 1978 when it was finally washed away. It was possible to walk along the pier certainly up till 1971, the last time I was there before returning in 1980 having left Kings Lynn to earn my fortune in 1971...
@@WalkWithMeTim the main building of the pier also stood until 2002, when it suspiciously burnt down so the building you see there now is also not original. After the fire the owners of the pier building wanted to build something much larger but the council rejected it. Unusual since they have a habit of approving solely detrimental things for the town. It took a couple of years to get approval during which time the owners had the audacity to complain that their insurance was no longer covering their loss of earnings in the papers, despite the delays being of their own making. What my parents described as an amazing victorian seaside town is a shadow of its former self, even just the destruction of it I have seen in my lifetime. The sea life centre and mini golf used to be a boating lake until the late 80s. It had a bridge to an island in the middle with a cafe on it and you could boat under the bridge. When the sea life centre was built over half the boating lake sat derelict for 20 years. Literally it was just a hole in the ground with a permanent puddle of seawater in it. You missed the old train station and line, now a couple of oddly placed shops and some car parks, but there are remnants still there just off the seafront. A few backhanders have seen the approval of blocks of flats on some of that carpark that would have originally had the railway lines now. It would have originally been an end station I believe, with a train line running from kings lynn. It closed following the beeching report so now summer consists of a 90 minute car queue to get to the beach and a protracted hunt for somewhere to park. The building behind the arcade you pointed out used to have a massive victorian hotel on it. It was demolished and now it is one of the most hideous 80s buildings in existance, just flats upstairs and shops underneath. Interestingly the golden lion hotel behind the pier once looked like it faced a similar fate, but some shenanigans saw it being sold at auction for something like 50k in the late 90s, roughly the price of a detached house then. There were some rumblings about that at the time, and rumours of fraud for it to change money for that amount. retrospectively its lucky it was sold because it's one of the most attractive buildings remaining now and there isnt much that's original left. Not that I mind new developments, but all examples on offer there are pretty poor. The swimming pool on the front for example replaced a much nicer outdoor swimming pool. I'm not old enough to recall it but as described to me it was something quite special. However, money. Yknow. The indoor pool from the outside isnt a very attractive building unfortunately. It looks like a large dirty tetrapak. Around the late 90s a popular bar called the kitkat sat on the seafront next to the swimming pool. It would have frequent live bands and was very busy even in the 80s. However shortly after the 80s housing crash and recession it also strangely burnt to the ground. Again, it was demolished and left as waste land for many years. It's incredible how all these commercial buildings burn to the ground at the most financially opportune moments. The owner of the norfolk deli that you highlighted is a complete piece of work. That might sound harsh, but seriously have a look at his replies on the trip advisor reviews if you have any doubt and I am 100% confident you'll agree. Based on those alone I wouldnt step foot in the place. However, although the town is just a street, it is quite nice and has a few places worth a stop if you want a coffee or light lunch. Theres the marine bar just off of it which is a good spot to have a drink outside if its sunny. Sadly they built retirement homes in front of it obscuring the sea view but it is still worth a visit. Theres a few bits in hunstanton that have improved like the seafront rooftop bar you highlighted but they always seem to be temporary structures, such as huts and shipping containers. Theres so little longterm investment that it won't be long before those small improvements like old and tired and sit derelict too I expect. Keep walking further into old hunstanton and there is a few great little pubs, one right on the seafront, so a nice spot for some food and a drink whether its warm or stormy. I recall it having large glass frontage towards the sea so plenty of seats with a view. Old hunstanton itself is largely unspoilt so if you fancy something to eat then consider a visit there.
@@grahamthegoldfish8183 I was going to read a book this evening but thanks to this reply I needn't bother. I've read replies that were a little long but this takes the biscuit. P.S. I was only having a quip, as it was a good reply.
Our caravans were in Snettisham, Brancaster was our daily beach. I remember the crazy golf was a pond with boats you could go round and round in. That was there until late 80’s. The bric-a-brac shop near the cafe that was once Hunstanton railway station, has been there since at lease the 60’s and the shop on the corner does the best ice cream 🍦. At the top we used to go into the ‘posh’ restaurant for our compulsory knickerbocker glory, that as small I had to stand on a chair to eat. On the corner opposite the hotel was the cinema. I fell to sleep while watching Laurence if Arabia - yep that old! I have such fond happy family memories of this little seaside town that I have continued with my children and grandchildren. Stay as you are sunny hunny 💜
Me and my mum and dad and my auntie go on holiday to Sunny Hunny every year, as my Auntie has a holiday flat there we love it there been going there since I was a kid and we love going round Norfolk visting places
Lovely review again in your series Tim. Thank you. I remember going there as a child when the present large concrete car park was the railway station with platforms. I think we went from Irchester station Northants. Am happy to be corrected in case my 70 year old memory has gone hazy!
Brilliant got some fond memories of Hunstanton when I was a kid, I remember the boating lake that used to be there my parents loved Sunny Hunny Thank you for the video & trip down memory lane

I had never heard of the area until around 10 years ago. Parents purchased a caravan in Heacham (2 mile walk along the beach to Hunny) and I’ve been coming here ever since. It’s a great little town. Reminiscent of days gone by. Ideal if you love the quieter, more laid back pace of life. There is also a lot of history locally and in the surrounding villages. Bra caster for its Roman Fort (as dug by Time Team), Heacham for Pocahontas and the Rolfe family, Hunstanton for the Le Strange family, the Sheraton wreck, lighthouse etc...
I've visited Hunny for about 40-years and considering retiring there with the missus. The memories I have of Sunny Hunny iare metal detecting under the old pier. The trips to Seal Island on the amphibious craft (apparently an old WW II landing craft - so we were told) and being transferred from one boat to another out at sea to get there. Amazing place!
I'm definitely retiring there when the times come I love Hunstanton I go every ear since I was a child and now go with the kids I'm not going this year because of covid19 but hopefully next year x

I had a lovely week there some years ago with my wife and Dog and took pictures of all the colourful little beach houses. It exceeded my expectations and will go again.
We went there for a week, must be 15 years ago now, great holiday. Lovely clean quiet town. We stayed in a cottage near Heacham. I remember we sat outside the Golden Lion at one of those tables you showed looking across that big green out to sea. I had a couple of pints and gave some to our dog. Weather was red hot with cloudless skies every day. Didn't go in town much. Mostly toured the north Norfolk coast. Wells, Cromer and a couple of beaches. Fond memories. Didn't know you could see Skegness over the sea. Never went to Old Hunstanton. Pity it looks nice. Thanks Tim
Yes! You said Sunny Hunny!!! Lovely place, been before. Really odd to learn its actually West! You need to get yourself on that fair! Another great video... watched it as soon as it came out lol!
Nice video and you had great weather! You just missed the Sheraton wreck under the cliffs. The pier got broken up after a storm in1974(?) and the amusement arcade then connected to it burnt down in 2002.
We stayed at Heacham Manor last year for a brief visit and the following morning only had an hour in Hunstanton and was impressed by it's natural beauty and is on my to do list to visit for a few days, another great vlog Tim and I have to say you have a great eye for attention to detail, I too would like a floral boat if I had a bigger garden lol 👍
There was a railway which closed in May 1969 just before the main holiday season,. Madness there is talk of reinstating it, the station was where you pointed out the market, it was well used even in the winter but the passenger numbers were taken during school holidays and in the winter to make it look little used, closure by stealth they called it at the time, you only have to look at the road traffic to the resort to see what a great loss it was, thank you for your interesting video.
Missed North Norfolk this year. Usually at Wells next to the Sea . Gonna check out Huntstanton next time we're there . Quality content Tim . I subbed .😄
Love these videos, especially this one as never been before and gives a good insightful view as to what to expect when I go. Looking forward to the next video in the forthcoming week!
Well it’s the first timer I have ever seen Hunstanton. It’s a lovely walk down the front love the seafront gardens . Smaller than I thought it would be but very nice . Good film 👍👍👍👍👍Dee
Great video Tim .Never been to Hunstanton it looks a very nice place .I would have loved going in that indoor pool.Sadly due to disabilitees i can no longer go in swimming pools. .Thankyou for a great video Tim
We used to stay in my mum and dads tourer caravan on the grass just behind the fair. Think its now just a car park but used to be a tourer site. Many happy memories made there, all the places you visited brought back a memory particularly walking pass the ghost train. There used to be a path just behind the ghost train that took you across to the beach. Hearing the ghost train through the back wall was scary enough for me!
Thanks so much for this Tim. Great work as usual. I didn't really know anything about Hunstanton prior to watching this video although I had heard of it so this was a fascinating video. Wow it looks such a lovely place and you certainly had fabulous weather. Wish I lived nearer as I would love to visit someday.
Regularly visit hunstanton for the best donuts around served from Kay's donuts and coffee on the sea front where all the bikers park up. Also the fish and chips from Eric's in Thornham are some of the best around especially the homemade tartare sauce.
Once based in Hunstanton for walking around the coast.A good walk, except when I was there it rained. The bus services are good in the summer and used to take you to all the main places including Sheringham, Used to be a good cafe in the bus station as well, Thank you for an enjoyable walk..well me watching and you walking lol
Yes I remember Hunston as locals call it . Remember going on boating lake, before taking bus or train back to kings Lynn. They used to have donkey rides then. And many other things that are no longer there like the station. It's a small seaside town a bit Victorian I still go there reliving my past when in Norfolk. Also remember the kit kat club too.
I used to travel by train from Lynn, the golf area you mentioned was a boating lake,we used to enjoy the open air pool now long gone, much has changed and sadly not for the better
Used to go to Hunstanton with my parents and spent at least a hour with an old school friend and her family helping out either on the fair ground or in the fish and chip hut on the car park! Plus going into the sea life centre as used to 'adopt' a seal there. Walking in the town was lovely as well
None of those caravan/house trailers were there when I was a girl.... There was a skating rink in the funfair and of course, the original helter skelter (or the Mat). The beach as all sand, and then there was the boating lake, the Blue Lagoon swimming pool, the pier, and THE RAILWAY!!!
I haven't been to Hunstanton for a few years, not far from where the Queen resides at Sandringham in winter. There are good views across the Wash to the Lincolnshire side where the most notable landmark is Boston parish church tower known as the Stump. Not sure if the rollercoasters at Skegness funfair can be seen.
That's another fine video you've got us into, Tim (with apologies to Laurel and Hardy). The green in front of the hotel reminds me a little of one end of Bondi Beach. As for candy floss, I used to love it as a kid but when I got older and grew a beard...well, you can imagine the problem.
It's well worth a visit, plenty of amenities without being too touristy. The wash monster boats were former US Army vehicles used in Viet Nam, according to information notices there.
Fascinating video. I love Hunstanton and travel there several times a year - although only 14 miles across The Wash from me, because of circumventing it by road, it's about 70 miles! The last remaining part of the original Pier was destroyed in a storm in 1978, the same one which also truncated the Skegness Pier. A long time ago there were boat trips between the two. Searle's, who run the Wash Monster, did try an idea of doing a trip over the Wash but, per usual, couldn't gain much interest at the Skegness side, so never got beyond the one trial run. Le Strange was also behind a number of buildings in his plans to develop the town, although I understand, the only one evident is the Golden Lion hotel. Nearby is the Waterside Bar - one of my favourites as, on a clear day, can sit outside and enjoy a pint looking at the Sun glinting on the Premier Inn and other monstrosities on Skegmess sea front (best view of the place 🤣). You are right about the sunsets. My attempt to photograph one last month was an epic fail as was one of few foggy days, so will have to return in near future for another attempt. Thanks again for your very interesting videos.
First time I went to Hunstanton was in 2017 for a short holiday with the family. First time I visited there and it was alot of fun, favourite part was shell collecting with my little brother. We went there last year and we'll be going back this year in October. Because of half term dates and October being when you get discounts etc that's when we normally go. Would like to go during the warmer months as it looks alot more lovely when it's warm. It's still nice in fall, but exploring gets cut short by either cold winds, rain or both.
@@WalkWithMeTim Definitely not short on shells 🤣 I got this one shell last year was either a small clam shell or something or just two shells fused together by environment causes. When I was cleaning them I managed to open up the shell and there was a little tiny shell inside of it and it is this nice smooth texture, and it's kind of like a marble effect to it. Hard to describe it but it is Very unique. Maybe it got trapped in there but it was very odd discovering that inside of those two shells.

Thanks Tim
thanks for watching i love sunny hunny too
Hunstanton and the pier were featured in the Ealing comedy, "Barnacle Bill". Alec Guinness played a Navel officer, who suffered sea sickness.
Fizzlegig true although the first part where he is looking through the telescope at the pier is all wrong lol
lol
lol
Great tour of Hunstanton. This is a lovely place where I would like to go when I hopefully visit Sheringham next year.
You should!
Yes! You said Sunny Hunny!!! Lovely place, been before. Really odd to learn its actually West! You need to get yourself on that fair! Another great video... watched it as soon as it came out lol!
Thanks .. and it was sunny ....again LOL
Lovely walk. Thank you Tim. 👍
Thanks for watching
Hi Tim looks a lovely place I've never been. I may have to visit next time I'm up there. Thankyou for sharing with us xxxx
Thanks Tracy
Nice video and you had great weather! You just missed the Sheraton wreck under the cliffs. The pier got broken up after a storm in1974(?) and the amusement arcade then connected to it burnt down in 2002.
We stayed at Heacham Manor last year for a brief visit and the following morning only had an hour in Hunstanton and was impressed by it's natural beauty and is on my to do list to visit for a few days, another great vlog Tim and I have to say you have a great eye for attention to detail, I too would like a floral boat if I had a bigger garden lol 👍
Totally agree! thanks Steve
Wow that's interesting
Missed North Norfolk this year. Usually at Wells next to the Sea . Gonna check out Huntstanton next time we're there .
Quality content Tim . I subbed .😄
Thanks David
I uploaded a short video of the bikes in Hunstanton on Sunday and suddenly this was recommended. Great stuff!

Amazing, no social distancing at all!

Great video Tim .Never been to Hunstanton it looks a very nice place .I would have loved going in that indoor pool.Sadly due to disabilitees i can no longer go in swimming pools.
.Thankyou for a great video Tim
another cracking video. Can't wait to visit Norfolk again.
Thanks Andy
We used to stay in my mum and dads tourer caravan on the grass just behind the fair. Think its now just a car park but used to be a tourer site. Many happy memories made there, all the places you visited brought back a memory particularly walking pass the ghost train. There used to be a path just behind the ghost train that took you across to the beach. Hearing the ghost train through the back wall was scary enough for me!
Thanks for sharing Emma
Thanks for the tour! You picked the right sort of day for "Sunny Honey".
lol i certainly did
Thanks so much for this Tim. Great work as usual. I didn't really know anything about Hunstanton prior to watching this video although I had heard of it so this was a fascinating video. Wow it looks such a lovely place and you certainly had fabulous weather. Wish I lived nearer as I would love to visit someday.
Thanks Jeff, I guess when the sunshines everywhere looks great... Maybe one day.
I'll also be doing a night walk so watch out for it
@@WalkWithMeTim I will definitely check that out, look forward to your work.
Regularly visit hunstanton for the best donuts around served from Kay's donuts and coffee on the sea front where all the bikers park up.
Also the fish and chips from Eric's in Thornham are some of the best around especially the homemade tartare sauce.
Oh wow!
Great video and well edited, thank you
Thanks
Great video Tim but you forgot to mention the Hunstanton USP: "The east coast resort that faces west!"
hi tim i love the hunstanton video i have not bean there for years good work nice to sea the sea again
Thanks chris
Another brilliant video ❤look forward to the next one 👍👌😊xx
Thanks Tina
Once based in Hunstanton for walking around the coast.A good walk, except when I was there it rained. The bus services are good in the summer and used to take you to all the main places including Sheringham, Used to be a good cafe in the bus station as well,
Thank you for an enjoyable walk..well me watching and you walking lol
Lol thanks paul
Nice to see this place again as its some year's since last here
Same here lol
Yes I remember Hunston as locals call it .
Remember going on boating lake, before taking bus or train back to kings Lynn. They used to have donkey rides then. And many other things that are no longer there like the station.
It's a small seaside town a bit Victorian I still go there reliving my past when in Norfolk.
Also remember the kit kat club too.
Thanks kurt
I used to travel by train from Lynn, the golf area you mentioned was a boating lake,we used to enjoy the open air pool now long gone, much has changed and sadly not for the better
Thanks for watching Graham
Used to go to Hunstanton with my parents and spent at least a hour with an old school friend and her family helping out either on the fair ground or in the fish and chip hut on the car park! Plus going into the sea life centre as used to 'adopt' a seal there. Walking in the town was lovely as well
Thanks for watching Gemma
Thank you very much for sharing this video with us, Amazing documentaries. Will visit one day.🤽♀️🏊♂️🦈👍
You should!
hi Tim good evening i really enjoyed this video can't wait for the becles video hope you have a good weekend
Thanks, you too Mario
None of those caravan/house trailers were there when I was a girl.... There was a skating rink in the funfair and of course, the original helter skelter (or the Mat). The beach as all sand, and then there was the boating lake, the Blue Lagoon swimming pool, the pier, and THE RAILWAY!!!
Thanks for watching them Valerie
Hello Tim
Another eye opener. Thank you.
Thanks for watching sharon
Remember going on a day trip there around 1947 the sea was so far out I had to wear a bright red cardigan so my Mum could see me as I paddled
Another excellent 👍 video Tim, you never disappoint.
Lol thanks Janet
Been there few times when I was a nipper not far from King's Lynn I would recommend it it's beautiful there and awesome video 😀
I love the sea life centre. I went there with a school trip when I was in year 1. The play area hasn’t changed 1 bit in 10 years.
Thanks Amy for watching remember to subscribe
I haven't been to Hunstanton for a few years, not far from where the Queen resides at Sandringham in winter. There are good views across the Wash to the Lincolnshire side where the most notable landmark is Boston parish church tower known as the Stump. Not sure if the rollercoasters at Skegness funfair can be seen.
if you have a good eye! lol
Anyone else wait for Friday to come around to watch another Tim video? You deserve 100k subscribers by Christmas mate.
Lol I doubt I'd get to that figure but love the positivity 😃 thanks for watching
Another great video. thanks for sharing ❤️❤️
Thanks Dola
That's another fine video you've got us into, Tim (with apologies to Laurel and Hardy). The green in front of the hotel reminds me a little of one end of Bondi Beach. As for candy floss, I used to love it as a kid but when I got older and grew a beard...well, you can imagine the problem.
LOL LOL thanks barry!
Enjoy your day in Hunstanton seafront tour Tim fromAndrewmay in yarmouth
I want to take that palm tree home with me 😂 never been to Hunstanton so thank you for taking me there. Love your walks.
I know poor thing ... lol thanks for watching
Another great video just can’t wait for the next instalment 😊👍🏻
Thanks Steve
It's well worth a visit, plenty of amenities without being too touristy.
The wash monster boats were former US Army vehicles used in Viet Nam, according to information notices there.
I'll hopefully go on it one day lol
Thanks again for your very interesting videos.
thanks Peter
First time I went to Hunstanton was in 2017 for a short holiday with the family. First time I visited there and it was alot of fun, favourite part was shell collecting with my little brother.
We went there last year and we'll be going back this year in October. Because of half term dates and October being when you get discounts etc that's when we normally go. Would like to go during the warmer months as it looks alot more lovely when it's warm. It's still nice in fall, but exploring gets cut short by either cold winds, rain or both.
Yes much better in the summer... one thing there is a lot of .... shells
@@WalkWithMeTim Definitely not short on shells 🤣
I got this one shell last year was either a small clam shell or something or just two shells fused together by environment causes.
