Maybe DCS would prefer defending a class-action lawsuit when a few thousand customers discover that DCS products didn't live up to the advertising hype and they got ripped off.
I was one of those people who watched Stefan’s original video. It seemed very reasonable to me, in fact he seemed to go out of his way to give the products he was testing the benefit of the doubt.
Good to see you also reporting on this! Highly enjoyed Louis Rossman's report on this as well. Good on him tracking down and exposing the Warranty condition changing.
I'm literally, today, shopping for deep cycle batteries for my acoustically transparent, effluent transportation unit! Was looking at DCS products. Not anymore. What absolute scum bags!
I hope that you let DCS know that. And, when you do buy your batteries, follow up by sending DCS a copy of your invoice to show that you put your money where your mouth is. Good on you.
Just watched the Louis Rossmann video. Oh dear DCS, you appear to need to rethink your approach to poor Stefan, as if this keeps going it may not be the glorious victory you are hoping for. Thank you John, you have brought a classic case of David vs Goliath to our attention. Keep up the good work!
I checked the company involved on a review web site. They scored an average of just over one star! The minimum score is one. There was also a note that the site operators had removed several 5-star reviews because they suspected they were not from genuine posters. How bad can a company get?
The DCS facebook page is down. I also tried to use the "Contact Us" link on their web site. Error message, unavailable. Could they have gone to ground? Are they regretting what they started?
They don't need to. No one will believe in their official product specifications after shutting down independent review. Instead of this they can simply highlight where he was wrong or show alternative tests, but... he's probably not wrong and they aware of this.
I've watched many of Stefans reviews, he gives a great well balanced and real world call on whatever the item is, and how the average punter could or could not benefit with certain gear, and whether it worth the coin or not. This too happened to someone in Queensland who bought an offroad caravan (upward of $200k) for publishing all the things that were wrong with it, and the company filed a lawsuit against them. I don't know what these companies are trying to achieve with legal action, I would suggest it would be far better in their interest to address those shortfalls mentioned by customers than to spit a dummy.... word travels fast.
I love it. A Prime Minister of a country says "You can charge your EV from solar panels on your roof over night". Just paraphrasing from the Aliens movie "How do I get out of this Chicken shit outfit?"
You know it took me awhile to get it. I was thinking it would depend on how many or big your panels are. Then, BOOM 💥, I finally got it. Oh at night, DUH!
@@a9ball1 Well, if you've got a few square miles of super-sensitive solar panes, maybe you could charge it with moonlight. But even that isn't going to be viable around the new moon.
Sincere thanks for getting on board with this type of behaviour John. Well said. Let’s hope the little guy who gives honest reviews will not be screwed by a bully.
DCS might soon realize it has done something that not only causes it losses from the lawsuit but causes even greater losses from buyers now refusing to buy its products.
A group of us just last weekend sitting around a camp fire at dingo p creek was told about this. The word of mouth is spreading around the 4w drivers and grey nomads.
Many years ago my father was sued for libel after making a most egregious allegation about the probity of a politician in a letter to a national newspaper. Somehow the contents of the letter slipped past the night editor and the duty solicitor and it was published in full. Within hours the paper had apologised, paid the complainants' costs, make a large contribution "to charity" and left my father swinging in the wind. My father's reaction was to write back to the solicitor to say that should the matter be pursued he'd carry on repeating the accusation in every way he could until the trial and that it ought to remembered that the newspaper concerned was already tomorrow's fish and chip wrapper and that he was a man of straw, owning only the clothes on his back and a typewriter, the tool of his trade ...... he heard no more about it.
Louis Rossman covered this and also apparently uncovered a change to the online warranty statement that occurred at an interesting time in the timeline and carried an incorrect date of last change. Those pesky internet archives, they’ll get you every time.
Good on you for doing a video about this. It's all over UA-cam now, Will Prowse and some other high profile UA-camrs have done videos on it too. The worst possible marketing for DCS. There's a lot of RED flags about this company. Now subbed and gofunded 👍

So Good to see a local UA-cam platform take up this I became aware about this thanks to Louis Romann . It is so good to see the UA-cam Community stand up for each other.
EXCELLENT that you are on to this one and echoing the thoughts of many UA-camrs, including recently expressed by the technically excellent Defender Mods and Travels, a channel also not bashful over the rightful slaughtering of sub-standard Overlanding products.
Just like to add ...including you, their is 4 Aussie you tubers spreading the word, and 3 from the U.S spreading the word. Just awesome how Social Media for the little guy works ,no longer under the rug now🤣🤣
Did both. Subscribed to all off road 4x4 adventures and emailed DCS asking if its products do, in fact meet expectations. Upon receiving an answer I will let you know both the answer and my response to same.
The lawsuit seemed like a scare tactic from the company. They were hoping that the channel is small enough that they won't have the funds to fight the lawsuit and it would disappear. Since Louis Rossman as well as other channels even larger has covered this, the company is going to find out how much of a mistake they've made. Their name is in the gutter at the moment. This will cost them much more (from loss sales/customers) than if they had just honored the warranty.
Thanks John we need to stand up against theses bad business practices towards the everyday person. Mind you Lithium is expensive and dangerous at the same time when not done right.
I remember arguing with a guy who was raving about how DCS were superior batteries with completely different chemistry that means they were the only batteries to use as a starter in under bonnet conditions. I cannot understand how someone came to that conclusion other than that they were swallowing marketing wank, hook line and sinker.
They do use LiFe cells which are better for this application than straight lithium batteries, but the chemistry is by no means exclusive. Less energy dense, but a whole lot more durable and less combustible.
In my experience when an entity or a person jumps immediately to punitive action when challenged it's very often to cover or deflect from a breech of regulation or a failure of equipment.
I’ve been watching Alloffroad for a while now. I find his reviews unbiased and informative. Its reviews like this that help an over saturated market front and centre in the minds of consumers. Good or bad, social media helps promote so many manufacturers these days that would otherwise go unnoticed. This company should be grateful they are in the spotlight.
Remember that case some years back when Leo Schofield, a food critic, gave a bad review of a meal? The restaurant sued for defamation and won. Schofield wasn’t able to prove the truth of the facts on which he based his opinion because he had eaten the evidence.
Well, maybe you should look at the 'facts' he mentioned. In case he wrote far fetched bs like 'it tasted like there was rat shit in my soup', he certainly overstepped.
@@miskatonic6210 I would love to have been the lawyer asking him on the stand "Mr Schofield, to prove your comparison had a valid basis within the reasonable scope of a food critic, please outline to the court when and where you ate the fecal output of a rat so as to know what it tasted like?"
I don't care for cars, I don't even have a driving license. But I saw 3 videos on this now and memorized the company's name. NEVER let anyone bully you . even if its a company over youtube video.
Best thing the Battery Company can do now is swallow their pride and retract the lawsuit and let things chill out before the Internet ruins their business.

I first heard of DCS when a video surfaced of the owner driving on the dunes at high tide on Fraser. He justified his actions by saying "we didn't have any supplies, so it was either do that or go without food or water, for what could have been days". Seems the only publicity he gets is negative.
Funny, unless you are somewhere that has a Barometric tide, like Strahan Harbour Tas. You get two high and two low tides every 24 hour. roughly. Surely he and his party would not have starved to death or dehydrated in that time.
If you don't have supplies maybe not go there in the first place. Although not having any beer is a common reason for burglarizing supermarkets it usually doesn't work as an excuse.

It's sad that the number of business going down this path is increasing. Instead of improving their products, using constructive consumer feedback, they actively go out of their way to do no such thing.
Myself and a buddy have both tossed our DCS batteries in the bin after only 18 months use. Major issues that could not be explained. Could not rely on it out bush. Sad that he is being sued.
Unfortunately, some manufacturers only go after the little guy trying to make an example because they got hurt. I watched Rossman's video a few days ago, and his takedown was quite bloody. Not too long ago, a speaker manufacturer in the USA went after a reviewer after an otherwise very fair review and subjective opinion. I will not name either, but the support was overwhelming on the reviewer's side, and after taking down the video, he uploaded it again. The aftershocks against that manufacturer still linger after going after not one but two reviewers. By the way, the reviewer has a full-time job as an engineer, and he has the channel mainly as a hobby and to share something he is passionate about with others.
Get Louis Rossmann on to this and DCS will quickly realise what a world of pain they will be in. If the guy has evidence of his work then this slander case should really be thrown out and DCS charged with contempt of court for bring up such a frivalous case.
Remember that the free trade agreements being hawked around by our loveable corporate sector usually includes the capacity for corporates to sue governments (yes !! sue our Government) who act against the corporations interests. So this is a sign of “future blood sport” - Thanks JC
I understand why it doesn’t make sense. However, your panels collect the sunlight all throughout the day and store that power in batteries. I think he was referring to the fact that by having solar panels on your home will create enough energy to charge your car overnight via the batteries that store the energy gathered throughout the day. It’s still not attainable to the common man. You would need a 6-10k square foot home, to fit the required solar panels needed to store enough energy to charge a car overnight. That’s almost a half acre worth of solar panels. Even with subsidies, it would cost well over $100k and that’s just the installation. That figure doesn’t include the upkeep and replacement costs. We have solar panels on all of our pole barns and out buildings on our farm. We installed them 10 years ago and it will take another 40 years at the current rate for the system to pay for itself. The only bonus is we live in an area with an unreliable electrical grid. So, our solar panels do keep the lights on and the freezers cold when the main electricity goes out. But even solar had its limits on what it could and couldn’t run during an extended power outage.
@@lordchaa1598 That is if you can have batteries... Not everywhere are you allowed to have batteries to store energy, and any excess must be put into the grid. Regardless, when you listen to the words as they are stung together, it makes it really funny...
I sure as hell let DCS know I would not be purchasing their product now or in the future, and I will tell every one I know to do the same. I hope that little bit helps Stephen in this stupidity. It's a shame he took down the videos, I agree with Louis.
As always, I love watching your videos, John! I've been a long-time subscriber to your channel but this is my first time commenting. I recently heard about the incident between Stefan and DCS - such a terrible situation, and I was really hoping you’d cover it. My prayers have been answered! I appreciate your videos for their brutally honest and satirical, sarcastic vibe. I'm surprised you haven’t been sued by companies yet, like in your last video where you mentioned Fuel Doctor - that was hilarious! This matter really resonates with me because I’m also a victim of DCS. I bought a 75 AH DCS lithium battery, and it died in less than 9 months of use under the bonnet. It’s ridiculous for DCS to sue Stefan for simply expressing his personal opinion and experience. However, he didn't include a disclaimer stating "personal opinion and experience" in his videos. Correct me if I’m wrong - I’m no scientist or engineer, but from what I know about current lithium battery technology, lithium batteries and high heat environments don’t mix well. For DCS or any lithium battery company to claim that lithium batteries can perform reliably under the bonnet is impractical and unrealistic. PS. John love your workshop setup - but you missing a 3D printer.
Puting lithium batteries under car's bonnet where temperatures get to 80C is pure arrogance and against any lithium manufacturers specs for safe temperatures, basically it's just gonna be on brink of thermal runaway or lithium battery is going to poop itself all degraded real fast and this is what happened in Stefan's case and he made video about it after testing the battery and finding it's degraded severely after short time under the bonnet.
On a 40 degree celcius day the interior car temperature can reach 80 degrees celcius, so are you saying behind the seat lithium set ups are "pure arrogance" too? Stay in your lane champ. 😂
@Turnipstalk that explains then fast degradation under the hood and that`s the whole point I guess. Keep in mind that it`s also a proven fact that degraded lithiums are much more prone to thermal runways and we have seen this from EVs just sitting unpluged not charging in shaded shopping carparks and even garages.

@@tonymontana897 To me it implies they have no faith in their products, or increasing R&D, so they spend the money on lawyers to trash their reputation instead.
😅😅😅😅 sure mate.
Congrats to you John for posting this. Great to see you “automobile” UA-camrs backing each other up.
Sometimes I need to be patient to watch him, but it is worth it for the content.
Judging from the detailed customer reviews of this company's products , they are going to have to sue a shit load of people .
Australians boycott DCS…
😡😡😡😡😡😡
They don't need to.
No one will believe in their official product specifications after shutting down independent review.
Instead of this they can simply highlight where he was wrong or show alternative tests, but... he's probably not wrong and they aware of this.
Everyone boycott them
I'm American. Not in Aus. But most Americans still believe in fair play. No one with values will ever touch DCS again.
It's global, the boycott is worldwide!
I'll just brood on that comment ...
@@Tim_E well played 😄
Thanks for warning me about DCS Batteries, I know now to avoid them.
It's just how some companies roll. In Nigeria a woman got sued into oblivion for reviewing tomato sauce.
A company changed their T&C after the facts without changing the "last updated" date is certainly a scammer!
I would think it is deceptive conduct that the ACCC would frown upon. Just poor form all round you them.

Haha,spot on
Solar panels overnight. I think there might be a small problem with that scenario.
You know it took me awhile to get it.
I was thinking it would depend on how many or big your panels are.

I shared my displeasure with the DCS division here in the US.
DCS have shot themselves square in the foot with a 12 gauge. DCS also need to take into account their shocking google reviews by ex customers.
Louis Rossmann highlighted this also.
So did linus tech tips (16 million subs)
Saw this on Louis Rossman I hope DCS learns a lesson out of this.
Congratulation's JC on hitting the 400,000 subscriber milestone
Thank you very much.
Well done John! That's quite an achievement in today's terms.
You crack me up. So glad you commented on the DCS stupidity because it put your video in my feed. Very entertaining! If I ever get to your neck of the woods, is be glad to buy you a 🍺
So Good to see a local UA-cam platform take up this I became aware about this thanks to Louis Romann . It is so good to see the UA-cam Community stand up for each other.
I'm so glad you have covered this John.
Great work in spreading the word. More UA-cam channels should do it. This is straight out bullying by DCS. And I hate bullies.
Thanks for giving this story important airtime 👍
A major blight on today's society that an opinion or truth is considered grounds for legal action.
EXCELLENT that you are on to this one and echoing the thoughts of many UA-camrs, including recently expressed by the technically excellent Defender Mods and Travels, a channel also not bashful over the rightful slaughtering of sub-standard Overlanding products.
Good on you for posting this up. More and more channels are getting the word out, it's good to see people backing a genuine guy.
Was that Stewart by any chance 😂
@DIY12-24v it's possible but I don't remember.
@@jarlnieminen4307 he was the biggest fan boy of them and would have been there biggest salesman

They do use LiFe cells which are better for this application than straight lithium batteries, but the chemistry is by no means exclusive. Less energy dense, but a whole lot more durable and less combustible.
I'm glad you picked this article up, all the best Stephan.
In my experience when an entity or a person jumps immediately to punitive action when challenged it's very often to cover or deflect from a breech of regulation or a failure of equipment.
Thanks for drawing attention to Stefan’s situation. I’ve been following since it started.
You and Louis Rossmann are are awesome for covering this.
I've never heard of DCS. But now I won't consider them. Way to go DCS.
That's one of the worst things that can happen to a company: bad publicity costing them sales they might have had from new customers.
These were the guys who ran their car up into the dunes on Fraser Island a few years ago. Floggers
Hey, you got to this story. Nice.

Remember that case some years back when Leo Schofield, a food critic, gave a bad review of a meal? The restaurant sued for defamation and won. Schofield wasn’t able to prove the truth of the facts on which he based his opinion because he had eaten the evidence.
so don't eat batteries and you can say what you want?

Thanks for showcasing this case John. I support his stand against this defamation case and I did it with money to assist in his defence.
I rely on your channel and many others to build a ‘balanced case’ for my future purchases. Keep up the great service you provide.
Yeah, Fraser is hardly remote 🙄
Maybe wait a couple of hours for the tide to drop or even better, look at a tide chart and you know, plan.
Is that this one? ua-cam.com/video/B-0fO8atEto/v-deo.htmlsi=2d24cHoxFm_dK3I8
If you don't have supplies maybe not go there in the first place.

Seems like DCS have a bad attitude as well doubtful batteries. I think I'll shop elsewhere.
It's sad that the number of business going down this path is increasing. Instead of improving their products, using constructive consumer feedback, they actively go out of their way to do no such thing.
Thank you John for sharing this. DCS battery products will be boycotted by my extended family from now on.

several times actually. It goes back 40 years.
But the lawyers don't care haha
Thanks for covering this. The more airtime this gets the better. Louis Rossmann covered this quite well too.
Clearly DCS are not familiar with the term "Cancelled" in the world of social media.
They’ve hidden there Australian FB page now. Think they might have found out what cancelled is now
Fair is fair. No matter what media. DCS is deleted, cancelled, erased.
They are finding out what "Streisand effect" means, the hard way.
Sadly, it is becoming difficult to have a debate or discussion about anything without being shut-down.
Congratulations with your 400k subscribers! 🎉👍
Thank you Mr Bacon.
happy to see channels spread awareness on this despicable practice.
great tip on the Louis Rossman video - that was fantastic - gave me goosebumps!
DCS appears to have done more damage to their reputation but taking this action than the review ever would have done.
By doing this, the company nobody heard of is getting tons of free publicity. BAD publicity.

I almost spit out my coffee.... charging your electric car with solar panels over night..

Great work John . We the consumer want honest reviews . Thanks for supporting Stefan
Thank for this video. You did a public service without hyperbole, XS swearing or pooping in trousers !
Rossman did it - a "find out" kind of video about that. Much more hurt than they can hope to achieve.
Thanks for spreading the "news".
@@bushy0299lol. They catch fire too. Stay in your lane chump
DCS "guaranteed " theirs for underbonnet Stefan mentioned this several times
