I'm so glad that many of you enjoy the video.
Some answers for your questions: Roy and Moss are brothers from the same litter, they are almost 4 years old. We named them after the IT Crowd characters. They are both smart in their own way. Moss (on the left) is good at solving puzzles as he is very food motivated. On the other hand, he can't figure out how to properly cover his poop. 😄 Also only Roy's able to open doors, drawers or cabinets. They are playful but gentle cats. I think they are not aware of their strength otherwise they would have destroyed the puzzle toy for the treats. Sometimes they have disagreements but never on the food, they share their food without any problems.

Years ago, I moved into a nice house, rent free. The owner of the house, a friend of my parents, had lost his wife and moved with their small child to another state but couldn’t bring himself to sell the house. I was young and single, had one dog and a demanding job. In exchange for no rent, my job was to pay the utilities and maintain the property (three acres and a pool) and help get the house ready to put on the market. The first time I walked into the house, my mother and a neighbor were doing dishes and generally tidying up. As I walked into the kitchen, I ran smack into a giant fluffy cat who failed to yield to me or my dog. Now, I was definitely not a “cat person”. I had never lived with an indoor cat. I hated litter boxes and had zero minus infinity interest in cleaning up after a cat. I immediately protested with, “whoa whoa whoa, no one said anything about a CAT!” to which my mother quickly replied, “well maybe someone else would like to live here rent free and take care of the cat!” I grumbled and conceded. As soon as I moved in the next day and was alone with the “creature”, we had a conversation…He told me he would like to go in and out at will and that he wanted to eat wet cat food at every meal and to sleep in the same bed with me. I told him, “I am not your servant. However, if you will pee and poop outdoors, I will let you in and out whenever you ask and give you wet food every day and you can sleep in my room as long as you don’t get near my face. Deal?” It was a Deal.
We lived relatively harmoniously. He teased my dog relentlessly, provoking wild chases down a long hallway that would end with my dog run ragged, he cuddled constantly which irritated me, he opened cabinets, turned on faucets to drink fresh water, and only pooped in the litter box once in the two years I lived there.
One day I came home and he was limping severely. I contacted the owner and he told me where to take him to the vet and he would pay the bill. The vet was surprised to see him. The tech told me that this was a “fancy” cat that the wife had bought specifically because he was a Norwegian Forest Cat mixed with a Mainecoon because she adored both breeds. I didn’t really care what kind of cat he was as long as he didn’t cause me more work. Around the same time, I met my now wife. The first time she came to my place she stood with her mouth gaped open when she saw the cat. “Omg, what a gorgeous cat! You didn’t tell me you had a cat!” I said, “he’s not my cat, we just live together.” “You don’t like him?” “He’s alright, we have some agreements, but I can’t stand him trying to claw me all the time.” “Wow, he tries to claw you? Is he aggressive?” “Um, not really, he just does this thing (I demonstrate bread kneading) and digs his claws into me, I hate it so I kick him off my lap all the time.” She paused for a long time and looked at me like I was completely stupid before saying, “have you tried trimming his claws?” I thought about my response for an awkward amount of time and said, “um, no. I didn’t know you could do that.” The next day my new girlfriend, who at this point was actively thinking “this relationship is NOT going to work out”, showed up at my house with cat claw clippers. She sat down on the couch, the cat jumped up and sat down next to her, she petted him all over and then grabbed a paw. He calmly and happily let her give him a full kitty manicure. I am pretty sure I wouldn’t be married if it weren’t for that cat. She pretty much stayed because she couldn’t stand the thought of leaving him!
We ended up with that cat moving with us to a new house, then across country and then another move. I grew to LOVE him so much that I cried for weeks when he died of cancer. He was the smartest, gentlest, nicest cat I’ve ever met and I’m so happy I had a full cat lifetime of memories with him.

My tips on dealing with a complicated work environment: Compliments work to get people to cooperate and be less at odds.
Fictional situation with me and two others (who even might low-key dislike each other). You talk to both A and B, try to get one of them to say something *nice* about the other, or at least agree to something positive.
      Then this conversation:
Me (talking to A): Yeah, and B thinks so, too. You do a great job (insert the *actual compliment* B made).
Chances are, A is going to say something positive about B now. If not, keep trying until they do.
Now you repeat the same while talking to B.
Basically, you do inverse-gossip; instead of spreading the bad things people say behind each others' backs, you make sure everybody knows the good things people appreciate about them.
Once you got the first two to be cautiously friendly, it tends to become easier with the other coworkers. Start with whoever gives you an opening ... the most important thing is to get any opening at all.
Do not make up compliments that weren't actually made. People tend to catch on and it will most likely backfire with you suddenly as the enemy of all.
Stay sincere and as honest as possible, if something someone says or does really bothers you, I've found it best to stay true to myself and stick to my guns.
Keep it innocuous, depending on where you live, some topics are better left alone.
Caveat: this fake truce tends to break down the second you stop actively pushing it. Especially when you deal with self-centered people or those who are inclined to be mean (if it was all a big misunderstanding, though, this is a great solution and will take up no more of your time).
On the plus side, you have a much more relaxed work environment, less passive-aggressive drama or outright plotting. You might also find new friends along the road.
I find this strategy well worth my time and yeah, I know I manipulate people ... but I don't think it's unethical.
Also, cats are the best ;)

Part of the reason why the cat on the right seemed not to participate in the successful solution was that at first he did manage to get out a treat with his paw. On the other hand, the cat who has pulled out the tray once, could observe the connection between his action and its result, therefore it was much more likely that the same cat will also pull out 2 remaining trays. Maybe it's because I have a Norwegian Forest Cat too that makes it so recognisable. The moment from "oops" to "but what if I..." to the moment you best buy padlocks for everything because he WILL get in... not "if" but "when...." becoming the question.

Cats are very smart problem solvers! It's a trait mostly unique to predators due to them needing complex problem solving skills to hunt food (animals who do foraging are very smart too, such as pigs, as they need those skills to successfully get food out of spaces and into spaces). Someone I know has a cat, whenever I visit and play with the cat it always hides a bit behind something before pouncing at the toy which is very smart and why he is great at hunting the mice around!

It was interesting to see how both cats found a working stratefy: The cat on the left learned that by pulling out the strings, the platforms will come out and the food will fall. The cat on the left learned that they can fish out individual pieces of food from the top.

I was waiting for them to just knock over the container. Which is how my cats often solve problems....
But they do learn from each other. Once I taught two sisters how to use the cat door, I didn’t need to teach the next generation unless there was no experienced cat in the house when they arrived. One of the original sisters demonstrated it for her adopted kitten, and that kitten grew up to illustrate the technique to other cats. One cat who as at least 12 years old on arrival needed special tutoring, though.... The rest learned from watching an experienced cat. That’s true for a lot of things.
