Only suggestion is two or three nails driven in the edge of 3/4 plywood where it grips the tree with the heads cut and sharpened to a point sticking out an inch would prevent sliding and take 15 minutes to make. My store bought tree seat I have used for 20 years has two sharp corners that digs into the tree and I have learned making sure they are dug in the tree is key. Does not scar the tree. My wife sits in it and talks to the deer who walk up to her. She tells the Bucks what big handsome boys they are.
Great design. Thanks for the idea! I used an old toilet seat for a template - made 3 of them for key stands along my usual route and left them there for the season. You can slide them down and fold them up against the tree trunk - cover with a couple of branches if you're concerned about theft. I just carry in my cushion!
Great ideas I'll be making one before this spring gobbler season , 68 years old the knees worn out the days of jumping off the ground to chase down flopping gobblers are gone.
I had a monster bucks come in on me this morning. I was sitting on the ground and he was behind me so I pretty much just sat still as possible until he left because I knew I couldn’t turn without spooking him. There was a tree just beside me and I was trying to figure an easy way to make a seat. Found this video and made one just a little larger than yours because the tree I’m at is a huge elm and I could get away with a larger seat. Anyway it worked out perfectly. Great video
@@bojannovkovic8818yes, actually look for a tree, with cover, put a couple branches on the other side. Especially a new spot(walk in). Smaller 12-18" inch trees work better for view.
I love these. I learned about it from Dean Torges in Traditional Bowhunter Magazine. I went as far as designing a lightweight one for backpacking. Another good anchor is a to drill a hole and then cut a keyhole slot at the side of that. You just tie a knot Iin the rope at the right spot.
Cool seat. Reminds me of cow milking seat where one leg screwed to the middle of seat then strapped around your lap. The one leg on chair plus your own two legs forms a 3 seat stool that the farmers use to go from cow to cow so they can sit milking them.
I made a couple a few years ago, and they were not designed as well as yours! I put my hole too close to the tree and had to add a brace under the seat to brace it against the tree at a 45-degree angle to hold it flat so I could sit on it. I am going to redrill the holes now that I have seen your design. Thanks
Great video and explanation was so clear. New subscriber to see what other wisdom you’re spreading. Stealthy. That puma didn’t even know you were there
I only hunt from the ground. My father in law made me one of these out of an old bench press seat. It was heavy and clunky, and would bang the crap out of you when you walked through the woods. This seems to be more user friendly and packable. Might make one.
My cousin use to make something similar to that but his had a fold down leg attached to the front. You could carry it over the shoulder like in this video, strap it to the tree and fold the one front leg down. I ditched it when I started hunting from treestands. But now I hunt back on the ground again. Might have to make me one.
I have a store-bought molded plastic one with a wide webbed strap and a large, folding, pointed plastic leg. I’ve had it over 50 years but haven’t used it in a long, long time.
Yes Dean used a very similar design with the exception he used one hole and a slot. Then used a series of knots to lock it in the slot. Dean and i always bickered in good nature over which was the best way.
Came here to say this. You can make it wider so the ropes don’t cut into your hips. Cut it in half and put a cheap piano hinge on it. Makes it more compact to carry and wider and more comfortable to set in.
Genius! At first I was like more shit I gotta carry and buy…but then! Great vid great idea. Hell copyright right that and sell it to cabelas, make it out of composite
If you modify them you could put holes in the front as well & a single long rope thru them... set a bunch & walk up the tree then pull the rope so that they all sit vertical & you can have the height advantage & not worry about any grizzly or other blindsiding you. When you are done let the rope hang & walk down the tree taking them with you... a tree step ladder... VOILA!
The cat came out to make sure you did everything correctly. 🐈⬛
That seat is a great idea. Thanks for sharing. 👍🏼
Dennis there's a mountain lion stalking you!!! Great idea, I will try this on public land I hunt where dbags steal tree stands. Great idea.
Oh sh#t, @brianwright9314, that was yours?! Yo, man, my bad.

Damn
An old toilet seat. Get two uses out of one. Ha !

I typically run an 8 foot rope on my seat just for those bigger trees.
I ran to the hardware store and got 8 foot of rope. It was too short lol. Luckily I had some 3 foot pieces around the house that I tied onto it.
Do you put some natural cover in front of you when you sit on the ground?

Thank you for the post. The older I get the more your seat idea keeps me enjoying the outdoors.
I'm leaning more towards a recliner or something that says 4x4 on the side of it. 😊
Nice simple bit of equipment, as all the best ones are, many thanks for that.

Made one this morning. Thanks for the video.
Wonderful for any kind of hunting, squirrel, deer, anything thank you
Hell of a Good Simple Contraption! Thanks Dennis.
That's pretty cool...going to make a couple right now !
Thanks man..
Good video. Been using one since I first saw Dean Torges with one years ago.
I was thinking if that plywood had a hole in the middle you can use it as a toilet as well
Love the seat and the cool cat in the background.
Coolest most useful thing I’ve seen in a while
👍
Awesome seat , thanks for sharing.

Great piece of kit!
Been thinkin of this idea for a few years. Now I know how! Great idea!
I will make me a couple of them. Thanks for sharing
Really enjoyed the video. Good hunting to you 👍
Nice vid and seat. I'm heading out to the shed. I've got a seat to make.Ty
I like it . Making one tomorrow morning. I need to get off that cold ground and be able to move around. 👍thanks
i thought that mountain lion in the back was going to get you for sure. 🦁
Pretty nifty, gonna make one and try that out. Looks like a quick n simple seat I can throw right on my back pack.
Thanks for the vid.. 😉
Nice!! Be careful in those woods think i seen a cougar behind ya😂
Thanks for sharing this with us!
Just made one and tested it - worked so great I made 2 more while I had the tools out.
Very informative and well said
Well done. Good video
Good video. I made the same seat but did the knots in the rope. I'm doing your idea from now on.
Good idea 👍 simple and effective
That’s fantastic! Thanks.
Great little idea!
Great seat bro, simple, effective.
Patient Pending 🤣🤣🤣
All kidding aside...Great Video
Great Idea. And it fits in backpack

I'm going to make a couple of these; Do you recommend pressure treated plywood or not?
I recommend what ever scrap you can find that is 3/4" or more! Either will work just fine.
This seat works great 👍 even if your a gat ass like myself at 235lbs still works perfectly
Slick....
Thanks for sharing

Seat-a-tree was on the market. Might be that one. @@JT_70
Great idea thanks
great idea
Frickin' genius!
That’s a great idea
Dean Torges came up with that design 30+ years ago.

Thumbs up buddy! Thank you.
id drill holes in the seat for rain drainage
Brilliant
awesome. thanks for sharing.
Hey! You saw one of my seats!!
Genius!
At first I was like more shit I gotta carry and buy…but then! Great vid great idea.
Hell copyright right that and sell it to cabelas, make it out of composite
I just did !
Lol
Good words friend
Good stuff I will have them all over the back 40
Did you notice the poison ivy on your tree? 🤣
Credit should be given to Dean Tprges for the original design.
Great idea
Excellent
Outstanding
That’s slick
Puma to your right!
Thank you.
Subbed
I made one like this with a big hole cut in it and put it behind my duck blind for when nature calls and I don't want to go back to the shack
So simple!
👍
PUMA!!!!!
I know your legit when your handling that tree with poison sumac all over it like nothing. Lol
credit to Dean Torges.
I seen him wild wampus cat. Watch out
There's a big cat in the background

As I state in the video, these are not designed to be used elevated in a tree. This should not be used as a treestand.
Just forget. Hunt simple in the nature flow.
I made one from a toilet seat so if I have to take dump I can do it without getting up and potentially spooking the deer.😂
