You are, hands down, the best tennis coach on UA-cam. First, you fixed my two-handed backhand. Second, you fixed my volley. Now, you fixed my serve (I was tossing the ball waaay to the right as I was always told to toss the ball at 1 o'clock). Thank you so much and keep up the videos, they're awesome!
You are the best I've watched on UA-cam: not only are your lessons accurate, sensible ad helpful, but they are well-made, simple and straight to the point, both visually and verbally. You share your reasoning clearly, which answers many questions or doubt that could arise. All this makes a lesson very effective and easy to remember when one is on the court, away from the screen. Thank you
Toss on top spin serve is great analysis. Super important to understand that you do not toss behind the baseline but to the left of you. Most tennis instructors do not understand this.
I have to admit, I have read a lot of tennis tips on how to improve the serve, this by far I think is the most helpful tip I've read. As an avid tennis player (now 64 yrs. old) I started playing when I was on my 30's, I've learned how to play tennis all by myself, just hitting the wall most of the time. I can play good tennis now, but my problem is always been my serve, I keep double faulting. I've spent hours and hours practicing my serve to no avail. I didn't know the importance of tossing the ball in a "specific" way to do a specific serve. Now that I have an idea, I know for sure I can improve my serve . I can not thank you enough for the most simple, logical and easy way to improve my serve. Bravo for a job well done. THANK YOU.
after playing tennis for more then 30 years and spending a lot of time improving my service this video makes perfect sense and is very helpfull. One of the best video's I've seen on this subject, thanks a lot!
Very nice video. I like the simplicity. The common sense of it. I've had so many coaches and each has their own advice based on their experiences and training. In the end, going by what feels natural has always helped me. I will look at your other serve videos.
Possibly the best toss video I’ve seen. Showing both back and side angles with the still comparison is extremely helpful. The light pole in the background was perfect. Is there any difference in the toss between ad and deuce courts?
My body is most comfortable sitting in a hot tub drinking a tequila sunrise out of a coconut thru a straw !...one of those small paper umbrellas in my drink would be nice.
Also I don't know if you did this intentionally but you managed to toss the ball to match the lamp post in the background making a great reference point! That just makes the 3 distinctions for the ball toss crystal clear. Great job!
after a very long and bloody war with heavy casualties on both sides, the outcome of which hung in the balance? Sounds like you might need to watch this video a few more times to sort that out.
My current coach keeps asking me to toss the ball at 12 o'clock but I agree with this guy here... the sweet spot for the toss is different for everyone, so use what you feels most comfortable with.
best tutorial ever it simply shows how to do an elegant and an effortless serve without any mistakes HATS OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!! to the player and thanks to the uploader
Do you want to help US beat Serbia in Davis Cup 2013? If your answer is "YES", just come here. We can talk about it. I hope the result is: 1 Djokovic beat Sam 2 Isner beat Troiki 3 B\B win double 4 Djokovic beat Isner 5 Sam beat Troiki 3 : 2 1 Djokovic beat Isner 2 Sam beat Troiki 3 B\B win double 4 Djokovic beat Sam 5 Isner beat Troiki 3 : 2 What is your hope?
I have watched lots of videos regarding serves, but this is probably the best video I have seen. I like the fact that you show all three serves on the same frame at one time.
First of all, you need to realize that you are practicing. Even better if you learn these movements standing near the T in no man's land so you don't think about the court and where the ball lands but up where the ball is and making the motion to get the desired action on the ball. Watch video of Federer, Djokovic, etc., all over youtube practicing serving, and you will see their feet all over the line. This piece of foolish obsession is your great loss.
5:02 that is exactly what I thought! watching your toss fall to the ground without performing the motion is going to have significantly different results.
LOL when fed hit that serve i knew djoker would kill it .it was like a mlb pitcher that threw a hanging slider ( little break right in the guys wheelhouse). when you hit that serve even to a good amatuer be prepared for a good return.
notice that your slice serve has a very slight break in the demo. if you increase the angle of contact youre serve will automatically break shorter but more severly thus getting more aces and and pulling the reciever off. this demo slice is the same serve fed served to djoker as he hit a winner to save match point at the 2011 US OR 2012 AUSTRLN OPEN. not saying bad but there is lots of slices the one you show the one like mcenroe short and sharp and the the one that curves into the body.
but i think its ok to toss a slice a little to the right for a righty to get a more severe angle. it gets more lateral movement and pulls the returner off for more aces.
No in flat and slice serve the toss is the same but in flat serve the racket's head frame, should be straight ,for spin serve ur toss should be like beside ur left side of ur head (if u right handed player)thats the point
This is an excellent instructional video. Very clear and the piece about looking for comfort and listening to the body is very important. Good job. Patrick Diegan signing out.
What he's teaching is the from the return of serve perspective, the toss is very similar. All you want to do for aim is move the toss one to two inches side to side for a flat serve to hit the T or the line.
Thankyou for another great video Thomas. I have completed the serve unlocked video and it is the most useful coaching Ive had in my life, including being coached by ex ATP professionals. Im very grateful for your efforts. Do you have any videos covering the racket swing paths on slice and topspin serves? One thing I find confusing is pronation on slice and kick serves. I would love to hear you take on this topic, cheers, Mike
Thanks a lot for your kind feedback, Mike. I have a course ready for topspin and slice serves, it will be launched soon. If you are on my email list, you will know about it. Everything will be explained on how to serve slice and topspin serves. Keep in touch.
Hey Tomaz, thanks for yet another amazing video instruction... while I understand the difference between flat and top spin serves with reference to body posture and toss position. But I don't think I got the exact the difference between a flat and slice serves. I couldn't make out the difference in ball toss from both front and side angles. Could you please re-explain that? Thank you very much! Keep up your good work!! Best
Hey Tomaz, thanks for ton for this video. However, I'm failing to notice the difference between slice and kick serve in the snapshots shown from different angles... To me it seems like the toss for both these serves are very much the same and the only difference is when the racquet meets the ball. For flat serve - the racquet seems to be perfectly flat at the point of contact and whereas for the slice serve, racquet is somewhat angled with respect to the ball and makes contact on the side of the ball (like around 3 clock position). Is my observation right? Or am I missing something critical? Kindly clarify... You're the best! Keep up your good work!! Regards
My coach told me that 95% of my toss goes behind my head, but to be honest I never fell that. Anyway can you give me some tips how to make my toss better. I tried and tried by myself but I never make it. Do you have a video about how to get ready for receiving a serve? Sorry my English is not really good :)
My only ask is for the video to have a few slow motion sections for each type of serves so that the viewers can observe what he is demonstrating. Right now, I have to go back a couple of times to check which types of serves he was demonstrating.
I have a question Is it bad if my head isn't slanted when I come in for contact? Like my head is parallel with my shoulder when I come in contact with the ball. (This is for my flat serves)
Because we are sideways when hitting the serve then "behind the body" means actually to the "left" side of the court paralel to the baseline. So if you want to hit more aggressive topspin serves you can toss "behind the body" and "inside the court". Let me know if you understand what I mean.
You are, hands down, the best tennis coach on UA-cam.
First, you fixed my two-handed backhand. Second, you fixed my volley. Now, you fixed my serve (I was tossing the ball waaay to the right as I was always told to toss the ball at 1 o'clock).

best serving tutorial on youtube without questions. Thanks a bunch!
Best serve lesson ever! You clarified so many things that I didn't understand! Thanks!
Thanks for clarifying that “behind you” on top spin serve. (y) Probably saved me from injury practicing it.
after playing tennis for more then 30 years and spending a lot of time improving my service this video makes perfect sense and is very helpfull. One of the best video's I've seen on this subject, thanks a lot!
This is one of the better video on how to practice various types of serves. Thank You
Sir, it helped me a lot. Thank you very much for uploading this tutorial. Appreciated.

I really like the advice "listen to the body" and "feel confortable", because that's a way to learn by oneself.
This gives me more of an idea of how my toss and server action should be for the different types of serves.
this video was exactly what i needed to watch at this moment answering the questions that i had with service. special thanks bro.
It’s out of this world. Thank you so so much for this video. Full support to your channel.
That's it I have found the best tennis serve tutorial
This is so awesome, my serve improved so much learning from you. Thank you so much!!!
Possibly the best toss video I’ve seen. Showing both back and side angles with the still comparison is extremely helpful. The light pole in the background was perfect. Is there any difference in the toss between ad and deuce courts?
this is the best serving video I have seen. Thanks a mil.
KT- Singapore
I liked the positioning and the execution of the slice serve the most.
Now I know there're several ways to toss the ball, and I could toss in my most comfortable way too :). Thank you.
Excellent sir.
I toss the ball behind the court!! That’s useful advice. Thanks!!
How then can you disguise the toss? Can you hit all the 3 serves with one toos or is there is a slight variation?
My body is most comfortable sitting in a hot tub drinking a tequila sunrise out of a coconut thru a straw !...one of those small paper umbrellas in my drink would be nice.
Also I don't know if you did this intentionally but you managed to toss the ball to match the lamp post in the background making a great reference point! That just makes the 3 distinctions for the ball toss crystal clear. Great job!
That's just great! I really appreciate the time you put in to break it all down. I've not seen a clearer explanation than what you have shown here!
Great tutorial, especially when you said to listen to your body.
Also the two guys playing in the background of your video really need your help 8-)
Great demonstration of the toss! I definitely will follow up on the site for further instruction.
This has been the BEST lesson i've ever viewed on youtube!
Your accent is like djokovics!
very good thank you
after a very long and bloody war with heavy casualties on both sides, the outcome of which hung in the balance? Sounds like you might need to watch this video a few more times to sort that out.
I ace bitches like the way Germany was beat in WWII

Was a great video ,, congratulations,, i´m tennis coach
5:02 that is exactly what I thought! watching your toss fall to the ground without performing the motion is going to have significantly different results.
good tips but please watch you feet next time
What is your serve speed?
This guy's great. He's really got it.
i won't trust in a trainer that keep his foot on the line on every serve
ive be confused about the toss of topspin but now i get it. thanks!!
I just clicked the subscribe and of course the "like" button too.
"kickservice toss behind means not behind baseline." wow, new for me but logical! Txs
Means to the left of your body
LOL when fed hit that serve i knew djoker would kill it .it was like a mlb pitcher that threw a hanging slider ( little break right in the guys wheelhouse). when you hit that serve even to a good amatuer be prepared for a good return.

It is very helpful. show 3 serve motion at the same time. So i can think my serve form
thank you for your gift
Thank you. Really clear and concise explanation. Also very well filmed.
Good advice on top spin toss.
I can't wait until I can incorporate a top spin serve and slice serve into my serving. I can't wait until I get everything figured out in general.
This is an excellent instructional video. Very clear and the piece about looking for comfort and listening to the body is very important. Good job. Patrick Diegan signing out.
Excellent instruction, I will try this tonight, very helpful.

trying to improve my serve these days, needed this advises, thanks
Best internet coach, can you please make a video on how to aim the serve? Thank you!

holy crap finally a fucking useful video
Many thanks this is really helpful
Great lesson as always, Tomaz! Off topic question. What is your tennis racquet?
Very usefull, THANKS! Hi from Almaty, Kazakhstan)

This is very effective instruction. Thank you
In the past looping or arching the ball into the court was popular toss for Federer is this now out dated or no long done?
Best teacher ✌
Hello, how do you grab the ball for the throw in the serve, you have a turorial? Thank you
Great video, thanks a million
Nice advices! Thank you
Great video instruction.
My coach told me that 95% of my toss goes behind my head, but to be honest I never fell that. Anyway can you give me some tips how to make my toss better. I am a child of God
what if when I practice without jumping? Can I position the ball right above baseline? or a little behind baseline even?
Thomas, How high should the ball be tossed on the serve ?
Thanks tomaz
Very helpful
Very useful!
Thankyou
I have a question
Is it bad if my head isn't slanted when I come in for contact?
Like my head is parallel with my shoulder when I come in contact with the ball. (This is for my flat serves)
At 1:04 you say the the toss for topspin is just behind the body at what point because the toss should be in front more inside court
Because we are sideways when hitting the serve then "behind the body" means actually to the "left" side of the court paralel to the baseline. So if you want to hit more aggressive topspin serves you can toss "behind the body" and "inside the court". Let me know if you understand what I mean.
Thank You! Really helpfull hints... And correcting what other teachers taught wrong. (told incorrect)THANK YOU sir!))))))
a kick serve is the same thing as a topspin serve? I really want some tips for my second serve and I heard that using 'kick' is good for that
Tibi Mose it is the same. Kick serve is just another name for it but it sounds cooler
wonderful,hi smart handsome coach sir, well dome ,emotion, passion, and love for teaching with perfection in skill..victory to thee dear sir
