Such a life saver... something quick and simple. I have the same problem and i will be doing this right now. I am a lady and i have learned something new. Thank you Other videos have been super long. I came across yours and you have been the best. Much love
I have a 2015 Nissan Rogue (beginning of the then "New model design). 2 years later I had a waterfall of water on my passenger front seat side. I called my Nissan dealer, and they said the SUV was out of warranty & it would be between $125 - 175 to clean out the drain tubes. Needless to say, I checked out the internet "Help" videos & saw the tube cleaning process but found it a bit difficult to locate & get the tube to go into the drain hole properly. I then decided to use liquid plumber & it cleared the blockage easily. Bottom line; NISSAN SHOULD BE CASTRATED FOR THE INEPT DRAIN DESIGN!!!!! Luckily, although the thunder storm dumped a ton of water onto the front seat the first time I had to come to a stop, it was on the passenger seat & I was alone at the time. Had it been on the drivers side, since I was startled by the sudden release of water (even on the passenger side) if it would have occurred on the drivers side, I might have experienced an accident. Can't believe there isn't someone who's had an accident as a result of the inadequate drainage. Lawyers love these kind of cases!!!
I am wondering if anyone had a lawsuit against it. Only we can do is help others and encourage not to by Nissan anymore. I had Altima which had lot of issues with transmission and headlights. Some alread sued for headlights being dim and they are having recall on those. I wish someone had done something like this then we would have done petition signing.
I experienced this during a crazy rain storm last week. Literally like a shower in my car as I was driving. I had dripping from both A pillars and the center ceiling lights. I had to constantly absorb as much water as I could using a towel while driving in a rain storm it was insane. I call the dealer and they say is a common problem and is considered a "routine maintenance" thing. The man had the nerve to say itd would +$100 to "diagnose" the problem and then told be to fix it, involves removing the headliner and clearing out the clog which he confidently told me would $500... They failed to mention the sole cause for this being a "common problem" is because of the little filter on those whitish/yellow plastic drains in the engine bay. THOSE are what causes the clog and thus backs everything up. IF they're were to be any sort of filter, it should be at the entrance of the drain pipe which can be easily accessed with your fingers from the sunroof instead of all the way at the bottom where sediment and dirt can fill up the entire drainage tube before you realize you have a clog. I don't see much reason for such a tiny filter anyways since by the time the water wouldve exited that opening, it can make its way down the suspension area and out of the bottom (none of which are areas that's are water sensitive unlike oh lets say your headliner and electronics). Due to the intentional placement of the filter and having to remove other components to get to it in combination with a +500 TEMPORARY fix its hard to see this as anything less than a money grab for people who dont have the time to troubleshoot themselves. Thanks for this video though! I hope it gets more attention so other Rogue owners of this gen can do it themselves.
I have a Murano with the exact same issue and was quoted $500 as well from the dealer. I followed the video and was able to clear drain with $7 flexible curtain cable. Took me less than 1hr. I hope this video get more traction.
thank you so much for this! my car has had an awful smell and i just figured out today its because of the moonroof leaking. i will be trying this later today!
TIP: Instead of taking the wipers and shroud off simply pull back the rubber flap at the side of the shroud and you have enough access to the filter to rinse it good with a high pressure hose. Do this periodically and you are good to go.
I have a 2014, I bought it brand new...and currently going thru my third (possibly 4th i can't remember anymore) time with a water problem. The first was 6 months after buying the pos..an engineer from Nissan had to fly here and look at my car, turned out to be something not installed at the factory. The last (or the 3rd) was 2 years ago..which they said was this problem...yet I didn't have water from the headliner. Currently have an apt set for next week..same problem with water hanging out under the floor, yet this time water came out from the headliner too. They already told me at the dealership that it's not part of the current recall (not sure how you can assume that).. the first 3 of my vin are 5N1 (which is what it needs to be per the service bulletin from Jan 2021). They told me over the phone it could be $400 to fix it bc warranty is expired. I am SO fed up with this car. ...sorry so long but I am so frustrated with all the water issues I've had since buying it.
The stopper is the cause. Is not even poor design but pure evil design so you have to go to the dealership. Once you cut that little stopper you'll be fine forever.
@@phillycheez6288 put it back if you can, unless you found a way to hold that hose pass the hole. What I did at the time was to cut the end of the stopper, so it won't happen again, and never did.

Before I figured this issue out, Nissan Service said $360 for just a diagnostic. Once I figured out what it was, I called and they quoted $294 before taxes to unclog the drains. I said no thanks and did this myself. I couldn’t figure out how to remove the large plastic piece, but there are two rubber pieces on each side that I was able to remove from the plastic frame, and with a long stick I was able to unclog it. It was so satisfying to see water pouring out of it!
I have this same issue which recently became a nightmare!! It had rained, then a couple days later we had freezing temps. Like -10°f. The water had leaked down and got into the gear shifter, hence when i tried to put the car in D, the shifter was frozen!! Had to let my car run with the heat blasting for like 30 minutes to thaw it out! We're gonna try your suggestion. I'm tired of my headliner wet, inside my car wet & it had even made my floor boards wet!
Looks fairly easy. Thanks for the great video! I’m going to try cleaning the hole out with a small bottle brush just so I don’t have to do it again in a year.

There are 4 drains. One at each corner of the Sun roof. If you park with the front of your car level or down a slope this will work. If you park with the back of your car down a slope and the rear drains are clogged, you’ll have water come down the back pillar and fill up the floor pan. All drains need to be cleaned out. I would also suggest pulling all of your kick panels a d checking for water in all four floor pans. It’s possible to have water under there with dry carpet. I know because I had to pull the interior out of the wife’s car to dry it out.
