As a 1900 chess player i had a winning position with only 3 min vs a 2300 elo in a tournament. I had been studyoing seriusly for the first time and i won a 3 point advantage and i was in a position where i just had 1 way to fuck up and i felt that but as i was getting anxious and with 5 min on the clock i started to panick so i consciously spent 1 min to calm down. Thoughout the game i felt slowly going out of the flow state as my position improved and my time went down (mainly bcause of the time) but right now i was with 4 min and a middle game position with queen + 1 past pawn vs bishop and rook. I managed to get my king in the pawn structure that could be check-mated without realising and then fked up not defending of it because i had to move (5 sec clock) That day is the day i learned that i had to learn how to calm myselve down. Now when im on a winned position i play them over and over again and on tournaments i slap (literally slap myself) to calm down xd
Also, i don't just slap myselve but i felt that at this point if i try to make some excercice to calm down it just doesn't work so i do the slap THEN calm down its like for making It feel like something is forcing me to stay calm
Reframing also helps. I tend to shake incredibly much, yet I have a skill I call "shake control". That is, being able to hit stuff, despite crazy shakes. Everytime I now start shaking uncontrollably, I make it a challenge, to hit stuff despite the shakes, kinda reframing the goal. And ironically, that makes me less concerned about them (they become a challenge instead of a negative feedback loop). I hope that makes sense.
Not sure if this is the same thing that you're talking about. But for me, playing a map with relax and pretend to tap will help me sorta re-frame and then I play wayy better
Wow, that's make a lot of sense, ty, i also challenge myself while playing, i telling myself that at that moment i will try to not to miss any single note, and sometimes it works perfectly😅
I play a whole lot of tetris, and my friends often like to question how I can do things that don't seem remotely possible to them, I've always described it as thinking very little, so Its interesting to finally this is probably why.
I have seen your videos about tapping technique and i think that maybe an interview with a osu mania player or any vsrg main could be interesting, i think they could say a lot about that kind of stuff considering that vsrg are mainly about tapping
It's kinda funny that when I fced Happil 3mod for the first time I quite literally felt every effects thats described here 3:49. This video was fantastic btw keep it up !
Great video. Imo nerves are the fun part of the game. I dont really have much fun if there isnt something potentially cool happening. Idke put it best I think, "To stop having nerves you must genuinely not care". The downside is of course, if you dont care, its not as much fun as if you do care.
fr. when i passed the 6 star tsukinami diff i had nerves like fucking crazy lol. hr spiked to like 150 too lmao. and that shit makes it way more fun imo
man i've always related to that btmc clip as in my respective game that i play when i set a WR , that i was super excited for, my own heartrate hit 180+ too. gonna try and use the resources you linked, thanks!
This is very helpful even though I don't play osu anymore. Explains a lot of how some people have their own nerve control ritual. This probably reason why I struggle at the last part of my works. Thank you!
This is a really great video. So my takeaway is that I just have to convince myself that I have the ability to hit that difficulty because I have practiced it enough times. In short, it is about confidence. And when you know there's an aspect in the map that is difficult for you or outside factors, such as having a different setup that you aren't used to, just don't think that you cannot do it with your current ability. An example of this is mrekk performing great despite having a different setup from what he's used to; I think the clip was from the round table shi. This is a really simple concept, but because it is, we have neglected such an easy fix for nerves. This comment of mine has probably butchered the lesson from the video, but the video has expanded more on nerves and provided scientific evidence and jargon. TYSM bro for this knowledge. Have a beautiful day! *proceeds to break out of 6 digits*
holy moly! Your content is absolutely amazing! so underrated, holy shit! you deserve way more than the Osu tiktok content xD! dont let the numbers discourage you, you are doing amazing!
I'm not even an osu player, but watching the first part of the video made me realize something I haven't played Ultrakill in months, but I want to derust, and I've gotten to the point where the only thing that I haven't done yet is perfect the hardest level. I know I can do it, I've done it before, and on my very first attempt I almost did, but once I mess up once I can't recover. And I realized that was due to nerves, but not only nerves. When I'm saying how stupid I am or thinking about how tough this level is, I also pay less attention to the gameplay itself, and I can't multitask at all. So here's what worked for me: SHUT UP. If you simply stopped speaking you would automatically be paying more attention to the game, additionally, try to suppress your thoughts whenever you have them. And finally disable all notifications and make sure you can't see new messages on your second monitor or something like that. Also, the theory on performance rising with stress until it drops off instantly might explain why I can't perform well for long periods of time, and I haven't even considered stress to be a variable! Overall, great video, made me consider what I hadn't before
What helped me somewhat control my nerves better is playing 1v1 osu tournaments. You are constantly under pressure and need to perform on a higher level than your opponent. Playing in this kind of scenario gets your brain used to this kind of pressure and makes you slowly but surely improve at pressure situations.
Usually when I miss a note that would keep me from getting a score I end up playing the map better than I normally would. I think that has something to do with all my nerves being gone and I'm just playing the map for the fun of it
Once playing osu i entered that "flow state", let's call this hyperfocus. So, i hyperfocused so much i literally feeld like i leaved the reality... But i emidiatly loosed it. And i cant bring it back(
a few days ago i realized i really needed to get rid of my nerves and i started naturally trying diaphramatic breathing i think it actually really helps but its hard to do it and play the game at the same time.
My nerves is so bad to the point when i'm going for FC i looks like i'm having a seizure, my entire body is shaking so much that i can barely sit on my chair, not even talking about keeping my hands under control, i have a 5x3cm area on my tablet for osu and my cursor is shaking literally through the half of the monitor, how tf i'm supposed to FC maps with this? if not these nerves i would play as Azer, but thanks to them i can barely FC 4-5* with such a big effort and pain and it also can take a damn YEARS to FC just one damn map (recently i finally FC'ed a map, which i choked 3 years and 4 months ago!!!!). I'm just mentally suffering and hate this universe for giving to me this "gift", it's unfair, i have a great skills but they're being multiplied by zero because of my nerves. I literally CAN'T achieve my goals, i can't be pro, i'm doomed to be a mediocrity and loser
bruh i sometimes get nervous for the shittiest plays, i care so little i could leave the map most of the time. Even top plays or plays i can be proud of should never get me that nervous, as overall in my life i dont give a shit about them, i get less nervous risking my life in extreme sports but my heart goes 180bpm for a few circles that's stupid
I have done the opposite of be positive and instead be just be very negative to the point where that’s all I can think about and I just play automatically. It only worked a few times
i still dont get why i (almost) dont get nervous but maybe that's a good thing. however, most osu players struggle from nerves while i struggle to keep playing the game for some reason. i lost interest with this game XD

one of the best osu! videos I've ever seen
i’m surprised this isn’t common knowledge, even though i didn’t know i knew this, i still did this subconsciously
Your content is a breath of fresh air for me coming back to this game, thank you so much for this
Thank you for this epic video 😄
This video definitely made me get into the flow state

I see. So I must give up on my humanity. It all makes sense now

Problem: you are quite nervy and you aren't good at visualizing being good
Solution: visualize yourself visualizing yourself being good
I just choked a 7 star fc to nerves like an hour ago. Rip my 420pp
Thanks for the epic video flyin :D
