Great video, I watched yesterday. Came here to say your sub number finally grew again. It has been along time that it said 1.08m. Maybe youtube is going to finally let you grow more.
Hey mate, a couple of questions on that wide mouth to narrow mouth lid. Does that stainless steel lid come with the plastic nalgene/klean bottle or is it purchased seperately? Do you have a link for it? Also do you know if the lid will fit on the Pathfinder 39oz Wide-mouth Stainless Steel Canteens with new or old thread cap designs? I think my canteens are the new thread, but not 100% sure. Would be good if the lid was able to fit on both. Ohh and you did a video with an (Nomad) attachment onto soda bottles and then attaching the sawyer. I couldn't find a link to the attachment. I didn't see any on Nomads store. I think you know where I am heading with this: Pathfinder 39oz Wide-mouth Stainless Steel Canteen, attached to Nalgene wide mouth to narrow mouth stainless steel bottle lid, attached to (Nomad) attachment, attached to sawyer mini or squeeze, attached sawyer water bag. Cheers.
Your point should be well taken… use what you have to live. I was the K-Mart camper back in the late 70’s… froze my butt off back home in Wyoming and learned what I could do better. Still camping, hiking, kayaking, hunting and fishing at 64 and if I want a fire… I use my BIC and sure I can start fires with other systems in my fire kit… but, if I am cold… impressing someone with sticks and stones is not in my playbook. I guarantee you… if you handed Daniel Boone a BIC lighter… he would have used it until the damn thing ran out of fuel. Your channel is always good for information, tribal knowledge and to the point. Thank you sir.
I just created 3 $150 Amazon go bags for all of my vehicles inspired by your previous videos and Ranger Survival and Field Craft's videos. Thank you for all you do!
These "basic gear at your local store" videos are really enjoyable, because it reminds us all that there's equipment that we have access to in our area
Someone I know is transient and walks the hobo life from coast to coast..he has your original basic kit and uses it in his everyday living..makes shelter every night..he swears by your basic kit. Yes he shops daily for his food depending on money gathered daily but your kit is invaluable to him
I like the items you got from Wal-Mart. Very good items to start with. I'm glad you touch basis on first-aid kit. I have seen tons and tons of videos from so many different channels, and not one person talks or shows their first aid kits. As an Army combat medic veteran, I know the importance of having a good first aid kit. I made my own by collecting different items, such as a tourniquet, pressure bandages, alcohol wipes, a few Band-Aids, clotting bandages. I have two kits, one i keep in my bag and the other I keep inside my vehicle. I wish more people would go into depth about first aid kits. They are very important. Anyhow, I like the video Shawn, and I can't wait to see the items put to use in your next video. Outstanding AF!
From the title in my Email notification I thought you were going to solo overnight inside a Walmart store. That in itself would be a survival challenge! LOLZ
I always learn something in your videos! I don't mind watching skills over and over. Something different resonates in each. But you touch on new things all the time! You have a straight forward way of explaining things tha makes sense, and I appreciate it? I thing you change things up all the time. Keep them coming! Watching from Vancouver BC Canada 🇨🇦 😊
I will forever say Channel's like yours, which have valuable information for being independent and self sustainable and free. Will be target because it pushes against the agenda of us being dependent and controlled. Keep up the good work and good luck on your recon for data.
This is a great update as you said not all Walmart's are equal and now years later you can't get the same items. Heck even a month later you can't find the same things. This was a good format you spent the time going through everything and why and next time you use it instead of compromising and trying to cram it all into one video.
The advantage of buying inexpensive equipment is to get a specific capability up and running on a tight budget. It fail, and miserably, but then you have more clear understanding of the performance requirements and can assign a value to it to shop for the more expensive versions.
If you live in a desert where scorpions are a UV ( black light) flashlight would be a good idea. Because the uv light will illuminate their exoskeleton and make them glow. But is not that great in the daytime.
A quick 'thought' on a tourniquet....I am a retired Paramedic-Firefighter and one of the biggest mistakes I have seen in outdoor (or even indoor/industrial) accidents, is people with the best intentions, applying a tourniquet and doing it improperly! If you are going to carry one, or even have access to do a make-shift one, get training and learn how to properly use it. A few times, i have seen situations where direct pressure would have easily controlled bleeding but a tourniquet was applied unneeded or improperly and it only made the situation 100X worse. Take a basic first aid class, they are simple, informative and i hate to use the word...fun.
I totally agree that all Walmarts are NOT the same & they are unpredictable! I was fortunate to find Klean Kanteens on clearance at various Walmarts rangng in price from $7 to $13. So far the Walmarts where i shop have had Base plate compasses. As an 83 year old man, I appreciate your awareness of the reality that some folks are on fixed or limited income. I personally prefer military surplus gear, but Walmart gear would meet my minimal needs because I do not frequent the woods as often as I did when I was your age. I always look forward to your videos. Thanks, Corporal, & may God bless you, sir.
Great Stuff, Corporal!!! Really digging the new experiment! Gear, then how it’s used! Great explanations, in the last “2”! And now you’ve got me waiting to see how this set of “Walmart” gear will do!!! Like I always say, Thank you for the Great Tutorials and Always Keeping It Real!!! You’re one of the few who still does. I carry a multi-tool and a knife. As you always say, “…what is your intent…” For me… it’s the accessibility to a tool for a quick fix, until I make the necessary repair. Having a “spare” knife and sometimes can opener. It’s just my opinion, but they’ve saved me in a pinch. Semper Fi, Marine
The only thing I wound do differently is go with a 32-ounce Smartwater bottle paired with a Sawyer squeeze mini. Other that bout the best you can expect out of Wal-Mart options. Thanks for another outstanding video.
Shawn thanks for the great videos every week. Special thanks for the heads up on the Klean Kanteen water bottles at Wally. Had to spot at two before I found them but it was worth the trouble. Second store had six 40oz. on the shelf in Urbana Oh as well as one 64oz without a shelf tag. Took both to check out and to my surprise the 64oz was only $10.00. So I bought them both! Thanks again and keep doing what you're doing.
I am so impressed with that gimongous huge tree you are leaning against! American Beech? That is a tree old enough to have seen wagon trains leaving for the "West" and a new life!!
What I say to that is for a simple camp gear set up absolutely good enough is fine. But in my opinion your Survival kit items should be the best you can afford. Set yourself up for success. When the chips are down you don't want your life to hinge a check marked box of "This works", but this works and does the best it can do for me to survive. Think in terms of gaming your character always ditches the old inferior gear for the new higher tier to increase chances of Survival... Do the same with your own life, Its your life only in your own hands.
I know this video is a few months old, but I like to keep hand sanitizer and superglue. The hand sanitizer can be used for cleaning your hands and a cut, it can also be used as a fire starter. The superglue can be put on a cut to stop the bleeding it can also be used as a fire starter.
Although I prefer the over nighter videos, I appreciate this type also. Important to know where to get what to get and the why or why not to get, very important knowledge. Thank you for all the important information.
The secret 5 Cs are cash, credit card, cell phone, charging bank, and a contact who cares and knows where you are and where and when to pick you up is key.
Commenting to hopefully do my part in helping your channel analytics. I took a class from you in 2019 and it was an awesome time. Appreciate your practical approach and lack of BS. I wish you all the luck in building your empire.
Great video, advice and knowledge. For those just starting out or youngsters wanting to learn skills this is great info. Not much dough invested to get started. And like you teach, as your skill level increases you upgrade your kit. Thanks Corp. as always stay frosty AF.👍
About 20 years ago I was out on my cycle and it broke down in a area that didn't have much , but it did have a Walmart , for under a hundred bucks i bought supplies to help me camp out until the morning until I could fix my bike and ride home . I wouldn't recommend Walmart camping gear for a weekend getaway , but for a emergency their stuff could be a overnight life saver .
Given enough money, anyone can purchase Durston, Nemo, Thermarest, Big Agnes, Hoka, etc., and have terrific gear. Not all of us have enough money. Plus, as one of the other subscribers said, going to flea markets, or Walmart or some other source and finding usable gear at a reasonable price is not only smart but is also fun and there's lots of gear out there that will let me get out into the field. Thanks for this video and all the others you do.
YT is a treasure of good info on saving $$. There was one on here.. where a test was done, between a YETI insulated cup, and the Ozark Trails WM knockoff one. Look 100% the same.. heat/cold retention test showed.. both performed virtually Identically, WM copy is a third or MORE less $$ than the brand name. shop intelligently. Videos like this one, will save you $$ while getting you prepped.
Those a very good analogies to the old military isomats. They may not be the most comfortable but at least it's better than bare ground. Good thinking.
My first get home bag was 80% Walmart inspired by your first Walmart video. I replaced most of it with better gear over the years as I could afford it. Two years ago my wife and I made 5 car emergency bags for extended family. Again 80% of those kits were Walmart gear with the expectation that if needed it would be for an inconvenient over night in an ice storm or something similar using the vehicle as shelter. None of them have the skills to self rescue, nor are they interested in learning so it is what it is.
Still the best content in your genre. A few years ago shelter builds and catch and cook videos were 90% of the content I viewed. I’ve learned a lot from your channel. This is like stopping by to say hi to my old teacher.
You can also add a cheap camp stove, (Portable Camping Stoves Backpacking Stove with Piezo Ignition Stable Support Wind-Resistance Camp Stove for Outdoor Camping Hiking Cooking Now $6.59 ) and Fuel And COFFEE. Great video . And I agree on the first aid kits, Get A Good one and Carry IT
I've always carried a magnifying lens of some sort, even used em once or twice, but always think: 'but it won't work in an emergency, they don't work in the dark!' Seems my brain says emergencies only happen at night. I carry 2 bics and a Zippo; aka 3 ferro rods! Usually have a few spare flints for the Zippo, which with a plier type multi tool can strike a spark. Always carry a tourniquet, on me as EDC. But also was First Aid trained to improvise one. Great vid! Thanks!
I love your videos. I don’t understand how people aren’t informed when you drop a video. I get informed every time you drop one. Thank you for what you do and thank you for your past service. Oorah.
Great video! You always show the pros and cons of these things... Can't wait to see Walmart gear in action. I have some Wally world items in my kit too
So on the first aid kit I totally agree with you I wish I could send you the picture of the wound I received by a pair of gas hedge shears on my leg. so I went to the work truck to try to find a first aid kit to see what I can do to cover this up. The best thing in there was a gauze but the little white tape was not going to work. But what I did do is take my black duct tape wasn't gorilla. Will after using the little sanitizing wipes to clean the wound . I put the gauze over the wound add duct tape to my leg. Just my thought if you got gauze and duct tape you've got a Band-Aid.
Started building a “basic gear” kit after doing some research, watching many “basic survival kit” type videos, basic “Boy Scout” videos, and what one would need for a basic camp kit. Only way to ensure you’ve dialed your kit in, is to actually practice with the gear you have, practice the skills and learn new skills, which comes with actual field experience! The military seems to have some of the core basic skillsets training, so many active and former military know this when they first go through “basic” training. Those that don’t serve might not learn those basics, unless they can learn from people that do camp/hunt/fish/work on a farm/ranch, or learn from vets, etc.. thank you, all who serve or have served, for your service! One thing that anyone starting out trying bushcraft/survival is to try basic camping ⛺️. It can be challenging but rewarding and your first outings will teach you a lot! For example, matches can be more challenging to light/start a fire than a lighter, but you’ve got to have a good dry tinder bundle and small, medium and larger sizes of sticks and firewood 🪵 to build up a good fire, while ensuring the fire is kept under control and maintained. You don’t want embers blowing in the wind to ignite dry grass or other combustibles (forest/prairie fire)! Theres much to learn about being “outside”, and being comfortable.
Living on disability(brain tumor) I appreciate these budget friendly tips. Most of my gear comes from Marketplace and used gear websites, or clearance sales.
Yo I remember the first Walmart gear overnighter wayyy back. Honestly corporal all the skills I know as an outdoorsman I've learned from you, so thanks man. Screw what YTs doing to your channel, keep giving us good stuff like this 👍
As I have said before, and it is very, very true, and you stress it all the time, common sense it will save you every time. Use your common sense to pack a bag for your area for what you need.
Would love to see your take on a first aid kit. Can't wait to see you use this kit. My first kit was from Walmart and just been building it up with better gear.
There is an airman at the Air Force Base that we live by that has invented a new style of tourniquet. You wear it as a belt that can be a tourniquet with a special graded release for better technique with application. We are looking forward to it becoming available for purchase.
They want to put a cap on giving credit where credit is due ? The iniquity of he who has the gold breaks the rules ; where some [ whom they chose ] are more equal than others . Keep soldiering on Corporal and hold your head up high in your integrity ! ! !
Great video. Clearly stated purpose and goal. We'll prepared and presented. Decent day hike / survival kit for well under $200. Easy video to refer beginners to. Well done Marine. You are a go at this station.
Thanks again for another outstanding AF video. I know how much work goes into these and I appreciate all of them. I have learned several skills over the past 7 years from watching your videos. Thanks 👍
Hey Shawn.... I just came back from my local trash Walmart that's in a complete disorganized mess.... the ONLY gear showcased in your video that I could find were the Plastic Tent pegs The mini ferro rod The Ozark Trails multitool Paracord Just an fyi... with Walfart your mileage may vary... only plus was that I met a guy in the camping section and we started talking... I told him to subscribe to your channel!🎉
Built my "1st aid kit" Vitamin M, Tums, Peptobismal pills, Hand Lotion, Carmex, Tourniquet, nail clippers, Tweezers, first aid ointment and a couple band-aids.
Great video as always, can’t wait to see, what you do with the merchandise you bought at Walmart! lol if anything like the last you did, years ago, ( yes I saw it! Loved it! ) it should be outstanding! God Bless, be good!
I have bought 6 of the OT multi tools, 1 for each pack, I have broken 2 under medium duty conditions, and tossed all of them, I have 2 leathermans, a surge, and a 300, gear, buy the best you can afford your life depends on it
I do have a first aid kit in my day pack. It's a convenient pouch. Yes it has Band-Aid and alcohol wipes, triangular bandage. I bought a package of Moleskin for blisters, tick remover, After-Bite, tweezers, small scissors and of course a real tourniquet. I do have a larger one I take in the emergency bag in the truck that has lots in there.
I was a regular flashlight guy all thru my camping life up until like 3 or 4 years ago. I found some cheap ($1) headlamps at Walmart, and was blown away at how convenient it was and how much easier it was to do things wearing it, versus carrying a flashlight.
Didn’t have much money, couldn’t justify $25 for a decent poncho. So, I bought a $3 stadium poncho for some rain protection. A hard hike up a tall mountain, and almost to the top, the poncho was out and on. In high wind and snow/rain, the poncho froze, ripped to shreds in the wind, rain to 8 inches of snow. $3 wasted. Just a thought. Thanks for sharing…from east Tennessee.
Bummer...hard lesson learned. I keep a small, tough, tarp, and a Contractor Trash Bag, in the bottom of my pack just for stuff like that. Even a good poncho can fail.
This is a prime example of what I have come to the opinion of. If its a survival kit (you want the best gear you can afford) that accomplishes the tasks the best that they can. Not simply the most expensive but the most functional and proven and tested affordable. When a person simply checks a box for a piece of gear... theyre saying my life isnt worth giving myself a chance. Corporal says to train with the gear you use... If you a person buys a cheap 3$ poncho they should test it before they need it. So that they know what kind of protection it provides for that price. So that when they need it to survive they dont end up losing their life over a 3$ mistake. My advice is never tick a check mark on a box till you know that what you have is going to give the best odds for the buck. Hypothermia is a serious threat outdoors. So you would never want to wear or trust your life to gear that would fail expose you to the elements like that.
Always like watching how you switch out certain gear to try. Because of your channel and video I have used some of your input into making my own bug out bag
I saw the start and thought - ‘ oh god how boring!’ and nearly turned off, but I stuck with it and was pleasantly surprised at the content and the info. I’m as old as the hills and won’t be going out camping any time soon, but there’s a lot of commonsense in this video; well done m8.

Cheers.

And I agree on the first aid kits, Get A Good one and Carry IT
Great budget video for today economy. Thank you very much.
Thx for good video as always. It’s good to see a outdoors UA-camr showing cheap but efficient gear in a professional way.
better to have and not need than to need and not have.. one principal i always go by
I've always carried a magnifying lens of some sort, even used em once or twice, but always think: 'but it won't work in an emergency, they don't work in the dark!' Seems my brain says emergencies only happen at night.
Oorah.
Never missed one, don’t understand either….
Theres much to learn about being “outside”, and being comfortable.
looking forward to next Sunday to see how the kit performs.
Just like that... Another outstanding AF gear video with thoughtful commentary!
On the cheep. I’m mostly on that budget . PS. I always like bringing super glue to the trip . Great for a finger cut. Fix a tire.
WOW amazing how people MISS the point .and I been watching you since the Arizona trip that was a lot of moons ago
Living on disability(brain tumor) I appreciate these budget friendly tips. Most of my gear comes from Marketplace and used gear websites, or clearance sales.
Great video. It's always good to have a less expensive "practice kit". It can always be upgraded a little bit at a time. Semper Fi!
UA-cam WE WANT CORPORALS CORNER ! ! !
Thanks!
Yo I remember the first Walmart gear overnighter wayyy back. Honestly corporal all the skills I know as an outdoorsman I've learned from you, so thanks man. Screw what YTs doing to your channel, keep giving us good stuff like this 👍
I miss these type of challenges. Glad to see another one.
no challenge was issued or stated in the video or title
Great information and explanation for regular people just getting started down the survival / bushcraft rabbit hole 👍🏻
That is true. I spent some time in Colorado. The Walmart near me there had many more useful items than the one near me now in Michigan.
There is an airman at the Air Force Base that we live by that has invented a new style of tourniquet. You wear it as a belt that can be a tourniquet with a special graded release for better technique with application. We are looking forward to it becoming available for purchase.
your videos pop up after about a week. this video was 10 days and 105k views. I'm subbed and thumbs up 80ish% of the time
Hello from England just want to say really like your style of teaching spot on👌👍 really good channel
They want to put a cap on giving credit where credit is due ? The iniquity of he who has the gold breaks the rules ; where some [ whom they chose ] are more equal than others . Keep soldiering on Corporal and hold your head up high in your integrity ! ! !
Walmart does have a better poncho. And I found that duck tape works great as a substitute shoe for a horse.
Great video. Clearly stated purpose and goal. We'll prepared and presented. Decent day hike / survival kit for well under $200. Easy video to refer beginners to. Well done Marine. You are a go at this station.
Interesting and it seems to me something like this is at least a place to start, and one can improve as and when they can
Thanks again for another outstanding AF video. I know how much work goes into these and I appreciate all of them. I have learned several skills over the past 7 years from watching your videos. Thanks 👍
Hey Shawn.... I just came back from my local trash Walmart that's in a complete disorganized mess.... the ONLY gear showcased in your video that I could find were the
Plastic Tent pegs
The mini ferro rod
The Ozark Trails multitool
Paracord
Just an fyi... with Walfart your mileage may vary... only plus was that I met a guy in the camping section and we started talking... I told him to subscribe to your channel!🎉
Built my "1st aid kit" Vitamin M, Tums, Peptobismal pills, Hand Lotion, Carmex, Tourniquet, nail clippers, Tweezers, first aid ointment and a couple band-aids.
7:36 I knew you wouldn't be able to resist. I'm here for it.
Using a Bic is not having skills is like saying, Not using a Flintlock in a gun fight is not having skills.
Great video as always, can’t wait to see, what you do with the merchandise you bought at Walmart! lol if anything like the last you did, years ago, ( yes I saw it! Loved it! ) it should be outstanding! God Bless, be good!
“Pink seems to always be on the inside”… 😂
My local Walmart had the clean canteen on sale for 6.00. So bought 4
I have bought 6 of the OT multi tools, 1 for each pack, I have broken 2 under medium duty conditions, and tossed all of them, I have 2 leathermans, a surge, and a 300, gear, buy the best you can afford your life depends on it
You still have to watch their paracord, try to find an end and make sure its 7strand. They also sell the fiber mush core and still call it 550.
Good tip.
Our Walmart had the large mouth SS bottle for a while. After I picked up one, yours came out.
Outstanding video. Unlike our government, you understand that not everyone can afford the best stuff. You really are amazing at what you do
I do have a first aid kit in my day pack.
"pink is always on the inside" Words to live by 😃👍
If you don't like the pink get the hell out of here 😂
😂😂😂
Lmao he knew what he said
Hey Corporal, been watching for years!
Could you possibly do a minimal winter sleep system video for those of us who are prepared office workers?
Cheers for the video Corporal.
Always like watching how you switch out certain gear to try. Because of your channel and video I have used some of your input into making my own bug out bag
Sunday, Coffee and Corporals Corner's videos!!!!
Same
Thanks for doing videos like this for civilians like me a simple pack I can put together at my local Walmart can't wait to see part 2
i enjoy the multipart vids
78k in 2 days, not bad my man, your fans love you.
yet i have 1,000,000 subs
Sunday with the Corporal always great. Nice Wally World kit. Can't wait to see it in action. Thanks for all you do.
I saw the start and thought - ‘ oh god how boring!’ and nearly turned off, but I stuck with it and was pleasantly surprised at the content and the info. I’m as old as the hills and won’t be going out camping any time soon, but there’s a lot of commonsense in this video; well done m8.
Great ideas for a simple inexpensive backup kit.
