- Part Two of the thrilling confrontation between Light and Near. They also brought their hypemen along for whatever reason.
In the spirit of Death Note's general treatment of women, I decided to cut out Halle Bullook's part.

The voices are AI generated (with significant editing by me to make them sound the way I envision for the delivery.) I also used audio from the Death Note episode as well.
The images are screenshots taken from Death Note, with captions added using Imgflip. The exception was a random image I threw together because I thought it was funny.
The script was written by me and the editing was likewise done by me.
This ended up taking much longer than expected, there were a few technical issues that came up but I think they're fixed now.
We live in hope, at least.

Love how Light is actually making some decisions here that are smarter than he made in the anime, despite the overall nonsensical tone. And Matsuda immediately shooting Light while not knowing it was stopping a threat was a great payoff from the previous episode. Oh, and the fact that Light's team (including Matsuda) backed up his argument that people have a trend of just assuming he's God? Hilarious.
The captions are brilliant.

I can't believe it. The story of Light Imagay's story and Rear's has finally chummed to an end. This has truly been a ride of a lifetime, unlike L's lifespan
L is alive by the way. He though Light was crazy and just left.

Honestly, I wish that was the only ridiculous contrivance in the ending...they wrote themselves into a corner and had to pull Near's victory out of their ass so hard. Such a shame.
@@vikkio92 A lot of the misunderstandings of the ending are because of the anime. They condensed 50 chapters into 11.5 episodes after L died. Is copying the notebook in a day a stretch? Yeah, but Death Note was never super realistic. And it's not as hard to believe when you realize that Mikami only used the Death Note for a few weeks before storing it in the bank. Not only that, but Gevanni had Rester's help as well, cutting his workload in half.
So this is more reasonable in the manga. We know the death note must replenish pages. When Mikami got the book, he almost immediately had Takada write names using pages, so as Near explained in the Manga, they only had to replicate the two days Mikami wrote names in the real book after Takada’s death. I don’t know how Light’s previous killings would be explained, but presumably he removed those pages or the death note also refreshes old pages. How the book works isn’t super clear, but there are plausible explanations for replicating the book in the manga as compared to the rushed anime’s explanation.
This whole series is so funny and comical but every once in a while they'll slip in something super depressing like "I wish I'd played with him just once" 😢

Honestly, I can see the huge effort of making this in the slightest details. I’m one of the few people that love Near, and your characterisation of him is spot on! I’m living for Meronia too. I think in the epilogue you should make Mello hint that he has been watching Near from the sky once they meet (not in a clear loving way, but perceived as such by our delulu Near). In the anime every one was dumb at the ending, Light for not having spare notes, and the cops for taking their eyes off the magic genius murderer for even a second

I just forced myself to watch the second half of death note this week, so I'm glad to have caught this in my recommended. Blind luck indeed. Very funny. I'm sure the manga's probably a bit better but still.
(Also I'm not a "oh boo hoo light should won and also he was right the whole time" moron, I just wish Light's downfall was: a) down to an explicit oversight on Light's part due to his god-complex hubris and not just "whoops Mikami did a stupid", and b) Not shit that was pulled out of Near's ass right at the end that the audience had no way of seeing coming, even in a subtle way. "Oh Mikami broke his schedule and we're only telling you this in the confrontation because otherwise knowing this would completely ruin this entire storyline so fuck you")

i mean i dont think theres a problem with a story intentionally leaving out a piece of information just so the reveal is more shocking as long as it's explained afterward.

@@CodeAndGin all good I was the same for a while lol. Until I rewatched the show and I honestly think the reveal is done well. fun fact you can actually tell light lost the moment he starts explaining his plan before we find out if it worked or not. Every other time (bus jacking, losing memories) we don't fully know Light's plan until after we see it succeeded and then he explains it. The warehouse through, he explains his plan right before we find out if they actually die or not. That's just an interesting thing i noticed not that important :D

Love how you addressed the whole "Gevanni copied the entire Death Note in one night" thing that so many people weren't buying; I did hear the manga explained that Gevanni had Rester's help, but even if he just happened to be the world's best forger, it's still asking audiences a lot to believe that he made an exact copy overnight with ZERO signs of tampering being seen by Mikami. And the idea that there is a simpler explanation for how that was pulled off is interesting, but Near banning Gevanni from talking after firing him is a hilarious way of keeping that a secret😆
Also, bonus points for trigger happy Matsuda, silly Mello, and Near using house arrest with Misa as punishment for poopyhead Light
No it makes total sense, Gevanni and Rester only needed to copy 16 pages.
Mikami did use a microscope to inspect the fake note book but not the one in the bank.
Near actually cheated by writing Mikami's name in the notebook after they stole the real one. Since he was using the Death Note to control Mikami's actions, the SPK didn't have to really make a complete forgery of the notebook to fool Mikami.
Near then had Gevanni lie about making the copy, so that Near wouldn't get in trouble for murdering Mikami.

@@whosaidiwantedahandle Last I checked, that was just Matsuda's speculation; I could see this as a possibility, but officially, this was never confirmed to be what actually happened
@@judgementcup6083 Well, even without the speculation the forgery is still possible. There were only 16 pages to copy, because Mikami stopped writing in the real Death Note after December 10th, and Light and Misa's pages had been destroyed before sending it to Mikami. Rester is stated to have helped Gevanni, so each man only needed to copy 8 pages in a night.
I think this claim about Gevanni's forgery being ridiculously impossible originated from a 2021 UA-cam video. But that video is filled with a tremendous amount of misinformation.
Now that I think about it, it would have been much safer to film near with a secret camera and kill him later by looking at the footage (as any number of complications could have stopped mikumi for example being unable to secretly join the meeting and writing down all the names before getting shot). The downside of this would of course be that he'd loose the deathnote he was giving to nears team and it might be difficult to find again
I think i might have to watch the show to understand some of these jokes

The worst thkng is the shaggy defense could have worked if used well "i literally told this guy i was kira so that he would come here and attempt to kill us all so that kira would show hos face, i assumed you had a plan of some sort but given your suwpicions you would have never trusted me enough to follow through with this, and i know that someone on my team was feeding you information, so i had to do this alone, but it seemed i made a massive miscalculation and the real kira has failed to show up" or smth along those line

Why is it that no one remembers that Chief imagaY cleared Light on his death bed with everyone around, explaining that Light--at the time--did not own a Death Note? In fact, his clearing of Light seems perfectly set up to give him a reason why Mikami would think he's Kira: He was holding Chief imagaY's Death Note when he died, which meant that ownership passed to him.
Was that the notebook they returned to Sidoh though? If so, then he’d have to have somehow gotten ownership of the other notebook, the one he delivered to the Task Force.
@@ryanmulligan7544 The one they returned to Sidoh was the one that Mello was using. It was clearly established that Sidoh was the owner of that particular Death Note because Sidoh was hanging around Mello and his team, whereas Ryuk was the one that made the deal with Chief imagaY, which is the Death Note that remained in Light's team's HQ and was also the one that Light imagaY was holding when his father died.

Canonically, he dislikes unreasonable superiors, though. Which is why Near victimises him.

@falconcourt8740 it was! (In part at least) It was a really interesting point, so I wanted explore it in a little more depth, especially because they kind of briefly touched on it in the original, but Light didn't really expand much on it.

They had a copy of his keys. A heavily advanced copy machine ir forging tools would have sufficed nor would mikigami "examine iir with a microscope"
