So here I am, thanksgiving weekend at my in laws with absolutely nothing to do and I went for it. I have to say, a much more enjoyable 40 minute rip sesh than I expected, good job!

Nothing but unlimited love man. It gave me a new perspective on rhcp that is honestly refreshing to see even as a fan! There’s quite the echo chamber of john stans out there I can confidently say

@@noahleach7690 They’re “biased” despite listening to something that trashes music that they like? That’s brilliant stuff, Noah… Keep blessing UA-cam with your droppings.
About 20 years ago, I wasn’t a fan of RHCP then either but my old boss heard one of their songs and said “Everything they make sounds the same…” It at least made me think that the average rock fan would probably only see them as driving music (like Van Halen) rather than any kind of high art. So, I guess they’re harmless and can be fun.
Social media is crawling with miserable turds who aren't happy unless they're trashing something new every five minutes. There's nothing wrong with the song or the band whatsoever.
Seriously? Stadium Arcadium is so...boring. It's like if you took every one of RHCP's idiosyncrasies from all their music up to that point and just made a compilation album out of them. It's aggressively average. Stadium has some decent tracks but I think I would put literally any other (pre-Stadium Arcadium) album of theirs above it.
I don't know how I ended up watching this video but the hypothetical Kiedis v Flea dialogue was when I knew I had to hit the like button and subscribe. Well done, Pat Finnegan or whatever the fuck your name was.
Pat's a genius. I'm not afraid to admit that I had a physical reaction watching the first couple minutes of this video. Then he showed the guys with the chili peppers tattoos (of which I am one) and I was immediately disarmed
Funny, when I listened to Dani California for the first time, coupled with the music video, I thought it was an obvious ode to all their influences and past musicians. Therefore, the 'rips' were totally intentional and obvious...
Even if so, there is a big difference between showing your influences and just taking good things from other songs to create your own song and adding basically nothing of your own except for questionable lyrics.
@@uselessDM For me I never minded his lyrics being random...I always felt they were just another layer to the music that maybe sometimes had clearer meanings, and other times not really. Also, isn't taking good aspects of other songs to make your own song just an ode of sorts? Which is what I thought the song whole was about...I agree with many points in the video btw when it comes to maybe not adding things to the 'rips', I was just surprised that anyone would be surprised by the rips.
I wanted to hate this video so much when it randomly showed up on my feed. I started to watch it because I was bored, and at first, I wasn't amused. At all. Like seriously. But then.....the fucking magic happened. Pure magic. Loved this shit. Subscribed man.

Seriously, the tangents he goes on is probably my favorite part. I need those to stay. Also, I need to see that cut BTGG theme song on the Boston Market roof ASAP.
first of all, I didn't know everyone hated this song... I still love it... Second, how is this man so damn entertaining what in the world lmao
First time I’ve seen your videos. Theses are truly amazing. Well done sir… catching that Eddie hazel rip off was clever as hell btw👏👏
“Every big rip needs a Parker Jr.” words to live by.
Who ya gonna call...smh
might write that on the wall of the practice space …
Now I'm imagining all of pauls boutique with Parker Jr
Choosing to believe this is an official legal term.
I can’t believe how entertained i just was for 39 minutes. This guy is not only hilarious, he’s also spot on in his analysis. I’ve shared this with so many people,
Critique a really horrible song like Mary Jane's Last Dance; Dana video at least is watchable and not good or bad. Why not end it with Purple Haze guitar solo .. the whole video is a tribute to Hendrix and the rock greats. The guy is really stretching more than a bit.
that Ghostbusters+Dani California chorus has no business being as good as it is
RIIIIIGHT? LOL
“I ain’t afraid of no ghost” put Mountain Dew through my nose.
Dude, I just came across your channel and this video in particular. You've won yourself a new subscriber with your excellent analysis and memorable humor. Had me in tears, no joke. Absolutely hilarious stuff right there.
I cannot believe this man actually trespassed onto the roof of a Boston Market to sing a song about a man who works at Blinds-To-Go and has talked about Weezer.
I love this channel.
...AND HE DIDN'T SHOW US!?! Pat u gotta keep those full cuts and upload them on a separate channel cuz I NEEEED them.
Friendly statement that Cherry, Cherry (Neil Diamond) came 14 years before What I Like About You, and uses the same chord progression - and they all flow together: I'm in a cover band and we go from Like About You into Cherry, Cherry into R.O.C.K.
I knew there was one more, thank you
don't forget Twist and Shout and La Bamba!!
I love Cherry Cherry (and Neil diamond in general)
I really appreciated the entire replay of the conversations between band members from 21:06 onward. I'm sure that's exacltly how it went down, including the OFF hat and references to 'my brother'
Big cat!
I found your channel and watched every WMTSS in one go. I need more terrible song analysis videos in my life Pat. We're all counting on you.
As a massive RHCP fan and a first time watcher, i don’t see how someone can get offended by this. You make good points overall
Exactly. And in defense of the song. If you ever see the music video... Copying shit is kind of the point lol. That being said... It wasn't exactly a hit in my book lolz. Even recent chili peppers are not a huge hit for me. Sadly 92 might be their best year...
@@soyborne.bornmadeandundone1342 They peaked with Californication, By the way is allright though. I can never truely dislike RHCP like I do Coldplay.
To me they are the essence of summer vacation, of the romantisized California Venice beach life style all holywood like.
Came for the cozy pillows, stayed for the breakdown
It's fucking insane dude has less than 100k subscribers. This is like by far one of the best consistently funny channels. This dude's going to blow up eventually. I can't wait.
I hopped in just before 10K. Everyone knew back then we were witnessing informative, hilarious gold.
And not even 500 patrons. Gotta up these numbers
Well I mean... He seems like one of those ppl that WHITE ppl may find funny lol
@@Ewang2727 he doesn't seem anything like Jeff Foxworthy at all to me...... Crap.
And we were all here back then - before he was famous.
20:40 is all time UA-cam greatness, love you Pat
The re-write of the bass riff was sick hahaha.
“I 3 blind mice-d it!”
@@andrewwhitton9932 "and it still rips"
Legit had me in stitches
Nice pfp
man can I just say I appreciate so much that you are a music youtuber that actually plays track audio from what you're analysing. The copyright plague killed song analysis on youtube for me but this was a return to the golden days, definitely subscribed!
"If a California's gonna keep you out of a 'whatcha gonna' " is the true GOAT. You're my favorite comic mastermind
even three blind mice sounds sexy as hell on that old fender bass
I don't care how long the videos are...this is pure gold. Well done, sir!
I think I created my account in like the mid 00's; I have never commented on a video, but I look forward to these videos a lot. Pat you rock, I really enjoyed the video you have of your band on the radio, the playlist was incredible.
“Three blind mice” and “California” are now officially acknowledged as verbs in the Oxford dictionary. Best channel on UA-cam.
Speaking of words - 25:10 - "goated" with the sauce is something Oxford should consider as well.
28:50 - Three Blind Mice
30:30 - "Wano Wano" sounds like it would fit in the soundtrack of Road Rash: Jailbreak - he wrote it in 1997, Jailbreak came out in 2000 for the Playstation 1 - very much apt for the time period.
The day I’ve been dreading has come to pass - a song, and definitely a band, that I genuinely enjoy is featured on WMTSS.
I know. Dani California in the same series as Beverly Hills, All Summer Long, Fly Away, AND Hey Soul Sister? Pat Finnerty is bold.
@@ianbailey8778 - Great bands can have shitty songs. I think "Uplift Mofo Party Plan" is one of the greatest albums ever made. EVER.....but i won't listen to "Californication" if you paid me.
Oh how the tables turn
It sucks really bad though
I like mindless shit, too. But I also know that there are a million bands with more talent and creativity. They've been doing essentially the same shit since I had hair. 27 years ago. Time to evolve.
I will watch every second of content you produce. I do not care how long the videos are.
Rubin also produced Beverly Hills (weezer) and told Rivers he needs a song with a "boom boom chop" drum beat...
Rubin was listening to The Pixies that day
That's a joke. I cannot substantiate that claim, because I made it up
Rubin also produced Blood Sugar Sex Magic so he can't be all bad. Say what you want about the guy, he has a pretty good track record for a producer who doesn't know how to play an instrument or mix music.
I'm so in love with this series man, the way he just runs off with tons of different things. It's the best this is the best thing ever..
Yay part of the 5% female! I’m not going to say we are the coolest women because if this… but let’s be honest we are.
heck yeah we are!
What’s your stance on decorative pillows?
@@nick91884 I think they are a waste of money.
Amazing video man, creative and funny, had a great time watching it!
I was doing karaoke late night at my friend's house. She said the neighbor didn't give af and that we could go as late as we wanted. Like late into 3am... we started doing RHCP and as soon as we did we got a text "anything but RHCP or you gotta shut it off sorry"
🤣🤣🤣
Good, I hate hearing the music of pedos
Good.
After Pat's "Anything but Train", we have "Anything but Chi Peps". Brilliant.
I'm with that neighbor. It doesn't get any more annoying than The Red Hot Chili Peppers, and this song is definitely their worst!
This video is for me. Just found you and subbed. Thank you. When Dani California was released I was younger, I was shocked. I brought my Walkman to all of my friends and every one of them thought it was Tom for a second. That said I DO like the song. Not love it, but I dig it okay.
First video I've seen of yours, and as a Chili's fan, god damn this was amazing. Don't trim your videos, the editing is fucking hilarious and well produced. Love your content! 10/10
F yeah Pat. Your videos can be as long as they need to be. I don’t get bored; they’re great throughout.
So you're a chili peppers fan... What are your thoughts specifically on Dani California?
@@huliniswhoiam i’m a fan and this song sucks
@@huliniswhoiam Um, well I'm a Chi Peps fan. Saw them in D town in 88 and thought I was late to the party. I got busted dancing naked to Stone Cold Bush by my GF's best friend back in the day. But... Dani Califorinia Stinks. lol
The 8 minute intro could definitely be trimmed without harming the quality.
I'm new here and this video had me giggling like a maniac from beginning to end. You're so funny and now I'm glad to be part of the 5% ladies hahahaha
I have literally been arguing with people about this since 2006, this was so therapeutic
For some reason, Big Cat really sounds like a great nickname for Chad Smith, and I really wanna use it
Danny Carey.....
The irony that I think this video is incorrect, and disagree with a lot of his arguments...
Yet this rip of a 20 year old joke, in a video about un-subtle rips, was so subtly placed I have to respect it.
Ya know Pat, something I like about your channel more than other music channels is that rather than explaining 800 different chord progressions and keys and stuff in excruciating technical detail every single time, you describe stuff as "a Parker Jr" or a "three blind mice" and it makes it real easy for my filthy amateur music brain to parse and comprehend, and I really appreciate that about ya :)
You know, this video has showed up in my feed lots of times. I’ve always said to myself, why would I spend 40 minutes listening to someone rip on Dani California? So here I am, thanksgiving weekend at my in laws with absolutely nothing to do and I went for it. I have to say, a much more enjoyable 40 minute rip sesh than I expected, good job!
When I heard your rewrite of the bassline, it sounded just like the one I imagined he could play, thank you
When RHCP comes on the radio, my wife and i just repeat California over and over.
They say California for 17 seconds on their entire discography just so you know.
they only say california in less than 10 songs out of all 250+ songs
@@TheRealSplexy dont even try, most people dont know the peppers have more than 4 albums

The long and drawn out EADA war segment was also totally necessary and not incomprehensible at all.
30 secs of TP booing....to get to a hit sauce pitch LOL
My favourite thing about your videos is they remind me of early UA-cam golden years. It looks home made, its made with passion, it has a narrative, and its for a specific niche of nerds. You don't need a pedal wall brother.
I disagree with a whole lot of this video as a lifelong rhcp and JF fan but it’s so well made and you’re so damn funny that I subbed anyways and I’m not butthurt about it. Keep it up!!!
Respect.
Nothing but unlimited love man. It gave me a new perspective on rhcp that is honestly refreshing to see even as a fan! There’s quite the echo chamber of john stans out there I can confidently say
being a lifelong fan should tip you off that you're biased, idk try to work through it, you can hate them too, along with everyone else over the age of 16 lol
@@noahleach7690 They’re “biased” despite listening to something that trashes music that they like?
That’s brilliant stuff, Noah… Keep blessing UA-cam with your droppings.
About 20 years ago, I wasn’t a fan of RHCP then either but my old boss heard one of their songs and said “Everything they make sounds the same…”
It at least made me think that the average rock fan would probably only see them as driving music (like Van Halen) rather than any kind of high art.
So, I guess they’re harmless and can be fun.
The best creator on the platform hands down. You can tell its good because it actually causes discussion of music in the comments.
i feel seen being apart of the 5.6% of your subscribers. thank you for the pillow content. keep up the good work
watching this video made me realize I can skip therapy today and get some crack instead
Honestly, I think Dani California is a banger and Stadium Arcadium is one of RHCP's best records. I never realized how much hate it got till now.
Social media is crawling with miserable turds who aren't happy unless they're trashing something new every five minutes. There's nothing wrong with the song or the band whatsoever.
Any album with snow on it is utter 🗑
Ok, but how old are you?
@@dontask3613 that song is great. Tf
19:40 - 23:40 -- analysis of the first two words of Dani CA = comedy gold. love ur channel Pat!
"I love you, you're my brother... no can do" and then he pointed to his Off hat.
That whole dedication to the "Battle of E-A-D-A" bit was fantastic. Love this channel
I was hoping he was going to give Neil Diamond credit for Cherry Cherry.

This is the first video of yours that I've ever come across... and I'm in. Sub'd after just 11mins... I'm in.
Funny, when I listened to Dani California for the first time, coupled with the music video, I thought it was an obvious ode to all their influences and past musicians. Therefore, the 'rips' were totally intentional and obvious...
And yet, the song still stinks
i actually love the song
@@ssethsamm I actually don't think this song is too bad.
I wanted to hate this video so much when it randomly showed up on my feed. I started to watch it because I was bored, and at first, I wasn't amused. At all. Like seriously. But then.....the fucking magic happened. Pure magic. Loved this shit. Subscribed man.

That bassline rewrite improved the bridge by at least 666%, which officially made it rock for that brief moment in time.
I couldn't believe he made that post of DC rip BY REDOING THE BASSLINE
