The underlying problem first needs to be addressed. The government needs to restore democracy to the country. Then the economy will recover. Just look at what China has achieved in just 40 years. The same time it's taken Zimbabwe to become the poorest country in the world. Over 40 years ago China was one of the poorest countries in the world. Faced with a rapidly growing population and looming social crisis - it had to change it's political system. There was really only one solution to uplift the standard of living of it's 1+ billion people. And so it embraced capitalism - and opened it's doors to the world. It rapidly improved it's educational standards and put the Chinese people to work. An important point involved embracing the West - and it's huge appetite for goods. China is now the second most powerful economy in the world and its people enjoy a far highly standard of living than at any time in its history. They did all this in ~40 years. They are now a single party democracy. Communism had failed - unable to cope with the burgeoning population and broader world perspective of the people and the growing disillusionment and social unrest of the people. The world has changed significantly in the past 40 years. Sadly there still appears to be a lot of political relics - out of touch politicians - those that still clutch onto their self appointed titles of 'revolutionary' or 'freedom fighter' - who remember their glory days of four decades ago and who constantly fall back on the past to justify their corrupt and thieving ways - as they attempt to redirect blame at the ghosts of the past. Typically these politicians attempt to become dictators - to suppress the political will of the people. Africa is littered with these failing countries. As long as you keep looking over your shoulder at the past - you will keep bumping your head. Learn from the past and look forward to the future.

This gold coin debacle is not going to end well. Zimbabwean economic and financial interventions always end up in failure. Zimbabwe has to address the cause of economic challenges not tinker about with new currencies
The coin is not meant for transactional purposes, only as a store of value! When you buy the coin, you don’t receive it physically. It remains with the bank! You get a certificate to prove you have bought the coin!
There was a reason that Gold was the standard across the World. When it was removed as the standard, every currency in the World that was not supported by it became Fiat Currency! Credit by any other name is still "Fiat Currency!" I know that the cash in my pocket and the money that lay's in my Bank are simply "Promises kept, and Promises to pay!"
This is never the solution. We're trying to run away from the reality. 1. We don't have a universal currency by which every nation can price its products. 2. To undertake developmental projects we go for foreign debt because we don't have the requisite technology locally. 3. We import more than we export where export is way less than our foreign debt. 4. The exchange system being determined by some selected currencies and not all currencies - since it's purely a demand and supply problem. Until we force to end the 4th and maintain the rest we can never deal with the issue.

I dont agree with this guy. I see why zimbabwe is struggling if there economists think in this way.
Zimbabwean national on a South African News channel engaging with a Zambian economist on Zimbabwean issues.....
Eiy futhi🤣😂🤣
This is Africa for you 😂😂😂
Rubbish
Could never have these talks back in Zim or you risk your freedom. Either way you're informed that's all that matters really
I don't see the problem. It's called the news. And the journalist is a South African citizen, I'm pretty sure, no matter what his origins.
I think this is a great idea
Great idea, seems like all this printing of the US dollar is killing it.
I have never seen a confused government like this in the history of governance.
Confused? haha. have you heard our vice president who is also the health minister
😂😂😂😂
Facts
It's strategy....not confused
Gr8 analogy especially at the end
Smart move by Zimbabwe actually to slowly move away from the dollar by converting local currency into gold which will then allow them to switch to other reserve currency such as the Yuan in the future
8Western and Europeans countries should stay out of African economies they have bullied African countries more than enough with sanctions. We as Africa can stand our own economy regardless Westerners and Europeans come here to bride politicians while they just here to colonize Africans pretending to be investors. Zimbabwe can provide more than for its people with what they can grow and mine out of their land. The people has suffered enough causing its people to flee their motherland to survive in other counties are already struggling with poverty and joblessness which leads to xenophobia in Africa. Europe and the West should stay with their money problems and let us deal with our own resources.
I WOULD SAY ,YES ZIMBABWE DO WHAT IS RIGHT TO STRENGTHEN YOUR CURRENCY AND SAVE YYOUR COUNTRY .
VIVA AFRICAN
There are no significant sanctions on Zimbabwe.
That is propaganda spread by the ruling regime as an excuse for their failures.
shut up
use your own language to write stop being colonilized
Lol, it's a universal language that will get people to understand what she's saying.
@@may_beeharuno2195 it's a colonial language, I'd I quote " Europe must stay with there money" then why not there culture, music , inventions ,and language ? Don't be bias and Google has Google translate...
And just how many Zimbabweans are going to be able to afford these coins
Not many
The rich like he said
Sad 😢
The problem with Zimbabwe is that it is not Rhodesia anymore. You know it's true.
Isn't this why they killed Gaddafi?
This economist speaking is what we call mainstream economist in America.
This will make problems for the dollar the worlds reserve currency and bonds wont be needed if this udea catches on the dollar is dead .
All Africa and world will join. But America will not allow
Think positive big up for simbabwe🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥💪🏿💯💯💯
The elite will just stash the coins
I'm planning on stashing them as we ll
If you could make goldbacks wo 100 percent premium it'd solve the transactional problem
This is sad to hear this guy support a Chinese currency, yet shoots down Zimbabwean gold currency. This is a sad day for Africans
Honest money. Enough is enough of trash fiat currency. All countries that have had hyperinflation stack gold.
Tell that sell-out to stop undermining Zimbabwe’s pursuit of strength and independence.
Pride is killing Zim, why not join the RMA once until their economy stabilises.
True but you know the govt of zw with sovereignty thing...
@@kulhemhlongo They would have to be accountable and transparent.😁No thief wants that.
It's cool we got a lotta gold
ASANTE SANA ZIMBABWE! NOW HOW DO "WE THE PEOPLE" BUY IN???
What would stop me from taking those coins, melting them and reselling for us dollar?
Yeah you will part away with the $ before you could do that ...
It's our time as African,
Right approach moving forward. Afrikan Continent must use gold coin as legal tender and doing away with paper money. Gold coin currency is value based and paper currency has no value.
Welldone Zimbabwe.
Gaddafi got killed for trying to implement this revolutionary move, just that he wanted to do it for the whole of Africa
Will this act of Zimbabwe 🇿🇼 can reduce the Gold price in international market of Gold or it can rise the Gold price ???
Price of gold remains the same coa South Africa, China, Australia, USA etc have gold coins too
It will do nothing
White man came with paper to take your gold😀😂😀😂
black man take farm and he people die slowly 20 years later black man still die
What happens in between? silver just like it always has
I'm surprised that they haven't gone back to silver and copper coins a long time ago.
Fun Fact :The US minted 90% currency silver coins until 1964 and 40% silver coins until 1970 .
There is abundant copper in Zimbabwe, we use it for manufacturing export copper wires.
well done zimbabwe
Rasta hazvina politics izvi gold and silver is money baba enda kotenga gold coin woisa paden. US dollars not backed by anything that's fake money like stocks and bonds all fake
I have a friend that may become very rich, he has billions of Zim's,. If they reevaluate their currency and * keep the notes,,, then he was right.
The whole Country is actually rich in Precious metals ,Gems and minerals, you would be shocked.
This is why a Multi polar world policy is necessary
Trust me, this is gonna be catastrophically bad, please do not use gold, base a currency on gold don't use gold. please this is a horrible idea.
Go and read about the Gold Standard and then come back here,
It means people are going to exchange thier gold for paper usd
For who you not even given reason behind your opinion.
Gold has value, paper is all speculation
Bot
The sheep said since roman times its only due to countless money printing governments couldnt afford real silver and copper coins .. gold was the first to go for the same reason
Well said!
Where does democracy come in. China is not a democratic country and it is doing well.

This gold coin debacle is not going to end well. Zimbabwean economic and financial interventions always end up in failure. Zimbabwe has to address the cause of economic challenges not tinker about with new currencies
Why don’t Zimbabwe ask exports of payment in Zimbabwe dollars if they are having faith in Zimbabwe?
Imagine if all countries in Africa join in on this we would be unstoppable for sure
People want a new govt period. With new govt people will have trust in their leadership and noone will sabotage the economy.
Zimbabwe will feed the world apocalyptic down fall
Really, the idea of printing new currency never worked. I agree with you
Corruption Corruption, the Zims need to fight the global pressures as one people , one Government, one economy
The fact that there’s trillions in gold in the earths core
That guy always talk against Zimbabwe u an African start blaming sunctions imposed by the west
The coin is not meant for transactional purposes, only as a store of value! When you buy the coin, you don’t receive it physically. It remains with the bank! You get a certificate to prove you have bought the coin!
The problem came when countries stopped using real assets like gold as tender. They have magic money now.
Well done this is progress
The Zims need to increase production and productivity for exports .New money must b brought in , the population must b put to work
There was a reason that Gold was the standard across the World.
😂😂😂😂 They said they were copying Russia,
Lets see if it will work
These coins are not for everyday transactions. Its just a store of value
Peter Ndoro and Zambia economist just chatting politics in some instances even lying
Can you use zim paper currency to buy 1 zim gold coin? And if yes, how much zim currency do you need to buy 1zim gold coin?
