    The level looked more like brown belt (sankyu) than green. Doesn't hurt that he's got a phenomenal uke. :)

    I'm embarrassed to say I'm an ikkyu who doesn't know half of those ne-waza, plus I cannot do any of those tachi-waza as well as Michael can.
    Something's very, very wrong here.
    Anyway- phenomenal stuff as usual. And humbling.

    Holy cow Matt you have very tough grading standards! This guy looks like a brown belt at least, and not just in terms of the number of techniques he knows - he moves extremely well. My guess is he was already in very good shape and a serious recreational athlete in some other sport before starting judo.

    BJJ guys going around saying Judo is influenced by BJJ. Oh the irony. As if BJJ didn't come from Judo...

    • @seanyboyseanyboy9411
      @seanyboyseanyboy9411 8 років тому +3

      judo is older and came from jujutsu (japanese)if anything bjj owes its tecs to these arts but bjj has a lot of moderations on japanese version😃

    • @asteriskcolon
      @asteriskcolon 8 років тому +8

      Just because BJJ owes more to Judo than Judo owes to BJJ doesn't mean Judo couldn't have been influenced by BJJ as well. I'm sure it goes both ways.

    • @BloodofPatriots
      @BloodofPatriots 7 років тому +13

      No, bjj does not havea lot of moderations. Check out Oda's videos from the 1930s. Everything bjj claims it invented, including jumping guard, was being done by Oda and his students 80 years ago. You know what they didn't do? Lay in the guard and try to fight off their backs. Do you know why? Because Oda figured out very quickly that doing so against an opponent who knows how to fight will get you ass beat -- which is what bjj mma fighters learned when wrestlers started to stack their hips and beat the shit of them from inside their closed guard -- So 80 years ago, Oda was alread ahead of current day bjj (which still used the guard as a static rather than transitory position).

    • @oganrafaeldeode5733
      @oganrafaeldeode5733 6 років тому

      ambas são artes sublimes, o judo coreano faz o mesmo que o japonês com diferentes maneiras de aplicar as mesmas técnicas e o bjj não é diferente, Helio Gracie potencializou o uso das alavancas e finalizações por isso o bjj tem um newaza imbatível.E claro que não podemos esquecer que o bjj é o caçula das artes marciais e tem muita coisa por vir tem muita coisa moderna sendo desenvolvida em todo o mundo por atletas de todas as categorias,infelizmente o brasil não investe nos atletas da modalidade, outros paises como nos emirados arabes tem até centros de treinamento super bem equipados assim como nas universidades onde se pode cursar judo full time . Oss

      to be honest in Judo (other then Kosen Judo) you don't get that much time to work on the ground meaninga guard pass is irrelevant as they will come stand you up if there is not an actual submission being attempted so in the case of these skills yes it is BJJ coming back around to influence Judo.

    that's the way Judo should be teached, a green belt can't get his green belt just with a year practicing judo, or blue belt with 2 years...that's happening in a lot of clubs.

      @@polinidream45 I am happy to see the reactions here .It remind me when i was younger in a competition i was facing a blue belt while i was orange and my eacher was like you will roast it they don't give belt the way we do.And yess y roasted it ,this is what belt test havec to be ,if you give the belt to easily that lower the level.
      Actually you can be brown belt quite fast if you have a huge grappling background, but from scratch that would be ridiculous.

    Nice Ne Waza. But check your Tachiwaza :-) The difference between Hiza Guruma and Sasae tsuri komi ashi is not only the position of the feet (@ 2:30). These are two complete different techniques. In other words, Sasae is executed wrong. Also Harai tsuri komi ashi (@ 3:00) is wrong. What you show us is more kind of a De ashi barai. Nevertheless, nice video. Keep training - for a green belt exzellent :-)

    two things:
    First: your newaza is really good for a judo green belt. Although your nagewaza needs some more balance... But you'll get that in time, just keep practicing.

    Very skilled green belt, well deserved. However, the colour of the belt doesn't mean anything. A good judoka is a good judoka. I remember when I competed and I was a green belt, and I had a lot of opponents in several tournaments that were black belts and I beat more than half of them, it's always nice to get a belt but many people get belts when they are not even on that level. just because someone is a black belt does not mean he is good or a good judoka. Ive met so many black belts that have been horrible and it makes u start to think, how the hell did you get your black belt you are horrible and knowledge wise u r terrible. some schools just throw around black belts like candy. that is wrong.

      instruct someone who practiced judo almost all his life and i am sure
      that for you properly finished techinique is when you broke somebodys

      umm, when your practicing or testing out, you don't want your Uki to see stars or to start coughing (coughing is a sign of an air choke, not a blood choke)...The Uki in this video was a good testing partner, and since the Tori properly demonstrated the techniques, Uki tapped once the technique was applied......no need to make your partner pass out
