Thanks for watching Judo Black Belt Exam : 20 Years of Dedication - Спорт
This is the definition of a real judo black belt examination! Thank you sensei Dean for preserving the true essence of kodokan judo.
Exactly, modern /non-olympic/ judo seems to have a lot to learn from the bjj culture.
@mavzolej you mean bjj has a lot to learn from judo culture
After 3 knee surgery's what a beast and I think a well deserved belt 👏
That was awesome. Favorite exam video to date. As an older guy in BJJ and Judo, this was really motivating.
This was absolutely amazing! I am black belt in karate with only a small amount of Judo experience. This inspired me to want to learn Judo for real. This is the kind of content that the internet needs!
I just had knee surgery in March this year and had the exact same brace! Mad props to him for training with it. I’m 11 weeks post op and about 80% recovered.
What is the brace? Hope you’re recovering well!
@@swayman66 I had a “donjoy x-rom”brace which looks identical to what he is wearing in the demo. I am doing well thanks, hoping to be back rolling soon!!
Loved this. Some serious proper Judo here. Well done.
Awesome! Just another example of a brave warrior reaching his goals with no excuses. Well deserved
That Shodan was well earned! Congrats!
That’s my coach!🎉 congrats well deserved
Seeing that leg all tied up reminded me of all the knee injuries from judo. Judo is a grueling sport. Here judo black belt gradings are done by the national body, not an instructor.
You must be in Canada or Europe because in the states we can use three high ranked black belts
In Canada, we do kata technical stream or comp stream via points. They're doing nage-no-kata for shodan grading but we would do it in front of a grading committee
I got graded by the USJF just a few years ago in 2020 for my black belt. Though I don’t know if grading has changed since then since the USJF has fallen out of favor but it was graded by the governing body and not the instructor back then.
It's the same in the UK. My instructor is a 6th dan but he can only grade up to brown belt. Black belt gradings are done by committee, which I think is good for preserving standards.
Absolute pleasure to watch, thank you.
That made me cry!!! Soooo inspirational!!! Well done!
Judo videos from Roy Dean? I'm hooked!
This Uke took a professional wrestling shows worth of bumps here.
Congrats:) Added judo 6 months ago to my bjj training and standing improved a lot, especially grip fighting!
More of these judo ones maybe some Japanese jujitsu as well
Awesome! How nicely done!
Really enjoyed this Mr. Dean!!!!
Awesome, thank you!
Inspiring.... thank you.
I added 1 day a week of Judo training to my Jiu Jitsu about a year and a half ago. They complement each other so well! Judo is a great martial art!
If I lived in the USA I would travel to your seminars and try to train under you Sensei Dean. Sadly, I do not live in the USA, so I really enjoy watching your films. They are brilliant, and your narration is first class.😊
Congrats 🎈 good job😊
Great study comp
Beautiful
Well made video and content wow. OSS!
amazing video! glad to see that BJJ roots comes from judo.
mad props to the orange belt uke!
I’ve never seen someone tap the mat so violently before.
Wow impressive, as a Shodan I can appreciate beautiful Judo 🙏
I've never seen nage no kata demostrated like that.
if someone could do that thing where they put all the names and timestamps, that would be amazing as this seems like a very comprehensive list
Interesting to see the different in the steps if the nage no kata. When I did mine, I made the same mistep of throwing too much into the uchi mata lol. Fixed it just like he did on the lefty one
Extraordinario, inspirador, felicitaciones y bien merecido su cinturon, mis respetos Oss
Effin Awesome. Wish we did more Judo in BJJ
Badass!!!
I should have read the title better. I saw Roy Dean belt test video and just assumed Jiujitsu. I knew what was going on but was confused as to why. Congratulations on the Shodan rank
Roy was happy with that IPPON :)

I LOVED THIS DEMO!!! SO MANY THROWS, SUCH A NICE ASS MIX OF STANDING AND GROUND!!! DESPITE THE KNEE BRACE.
Judo bb exam? now this is spicy
Wow, totally Loved the content.
I have a question.
Which is the worst sport for the body and knees especially? Judo or BJJ
My experience is that Judo is harder on the body by a distance...its the getting smashed with the throws that takes it out of you.
Lots of old Judoka moving over to BJJ including myself.
Judo is hard to the body, You would have to really love it to keep it doing it. They have some techniques that you can learn but is not allowed to do in randori or competition to avoid injuries. BJJ is a lot easier to the body but you can also get knee injuries with guys that are trying to do techniques that are not in their levels and you have a lot of them on the BJJ world.
Nage no Kata wasn't completed or it just recorded? I noticed few interesting points as the difference between European and US exams. We do Nage no Kata first, than 10 techniques, like morote gari, tawara gaeshi, kani basami, sukui nage, kubi nage and so on. Than self defense based on Judo techniques, and first aid test. What really surprised me is how bouncy is yours tatami. I'm traveling to Kodokan in September to finish my coach licence, so I curious how it will be there. :)
Hats off to the guys getting thrown
💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽
😳🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
What NGB is this under? here in the UK first Dan grading theory is done at an area level rather than club level and the practical part of i guess the "randori" shown here is just getting your points at either contests or contests grading.
What is up with the ukemi? I keep seeing uke using the back of his hand on the ground.
Jamás yo sería Uke con ese Sensei!
Is this test a formality, or is passing far from certain?
In the go kyo (and extra techniques) part, there are a few big errors in the kuzushi and tsukuri phases of koshi wazas and the kake (throw) is therefore out of equilibrium, uchi mata is not so good, a lot of little errors here and there. It's remarkable to show all these wazas for shodan, but they have to be consistently good. Maybe a more compact exam program could focus on the quality and not the quantity.
👍💪
Toute en force, je ne suis pas sur que cela fonctionne si une personne plus forte physiquement que lui se tient en face.
@roydean when can we see some videos of women’s test promotions?
Dude has a knee brace and still keeps training. Solid mf 🫡
Would you create a bjj dvd, which has 20 bjj techniques needed for street self defense??
There's already something like that ...it's called Judo
The knee brace is very telling.
which is harder, judo black belt or bjj black belt???
Easy answer..get a black belt in both.
Its said it takes about 10-15 years to get a BJJ blackbelt. Someone might get a Judo blackbelt within 7 years. But BJJ would not exist if judo didn't. No-Gi BJJ is just submission wrestling, the Gi is adopted from Judo.
In my experience, judo places a heavier emphasis on competition. Most judo black belts have competed over the years to some degree. While BJJ also emphasises competition, I think it would be more common to get a black belt in BJJ than judo without meaningful competition experience.
That's my impression, anyway, as a judo black belt and BJJ brown belt. Either way, they are both hard to achieve and worthy of respect.
@@jasonrose6288 Do I know you from somewhere? I think I do.
@@henkuanghoung4732 😁
I’m definitely going to have to take some judo along with Jiu-Jitsu when I start training again
what about jutaijutsu
Judo is a must, it's the foundation but many try to discard Judo out of arrogance. What you just witnessed real Judo including the leg locks which is apart of the Judo curriculum but not allowed 🚫 in competition. Also, you witnessed that bjj is judo under a different rule set.
Kneebar would be Hiza Gatame
Hiza Gatame is an arm bar where Tori uses his knee to apply pressure to Uke's outstretched elbow
He doesn't move like a black belt.
the orange belt has no idea how to fall
Not in favor of someone training so soon after surgery or injury. Best case you recover continues, worst case you get ur black belt as you get rolled back into surgery. Not worth the risk. I’m sure his surgeon would be 😡 if he/she was there for this. Lol.
Glad he made it through
He needs fluidity
Too rough
If it works it works 🤷🏾♂️
Fake! The other guy isn't even trying to fight back 🤔
Save! I'm the creator of Cana @crosspatiolifestyle and I get a lot of inspiration from your videos!!
