When we record, our songs are as long as they need to be but you are right, Henry, songs (particularily on the radio) are getting shorter. Sometimes, short is sweet but in others, even short is too long 😁 Just kidding 😇
Needs to be short due to lack of great compositional content, ie great melodies, interesting harmonies, non sophisticated rhythms! American popular music began its decline in the 50s thanks to the Beatles. Elvis, etc.
I love R&B but the new songs lacks emotion, depth, skill and is so short . It no longer speaks to the emotions nor to your soul. No authentic voices nor instruments so I can’t even listen to the new songs. I try but I can’t get with it so go back to my 80’s and 90’s albums.
It's all a matter of taste sir. I do think that a lot of the ladies still capture that emotion. People like Jennifer Hudson or Leon Bridges, Teddy Swims, etc.. They do a fantastic job in capturing emotion. Just have to listen to some good new soul playlists.
Attention Deficit Disorder...post modernism etc.
I think the business model also had a hand in this.
@@gregedenfield1080 definitely!
You Got It Henry !
Thanks
Very interesting.
Yes. When you do the research you find some interesting points.

That's no joke!
It's a tuff call but if you want to get heard you need to be at least aware of the business model you're trying to get into.

Maybe. Things do change over time so I don't think decline as much as I think changing attitudes toward music but I get your point.
If you do not get to the point of your song quick, your song is dead -- paraphrase from Huey Lewis.
Totally agree !!

Because a microphone can't even be turned on unless the plan is to get famous from a TikTok dance.
I personally think it's more the business decision.
