Hello my loves!!! I think I will be changing my upload day to Mondays, if that's cool with everyone! It puts a lot less pressure on me to get everything done on Sunday night and having to give up a huge chunk of my weekend and then going to bed late only to wake up early for work *looonggg breath*. So long story short, Mondays would allow me to make the best content (as well as these little animated graphics and text I like to add in, hehe). Oh and I MADE TOP 30 OF THE NYX FACE AWARDS SO THERE'S THAT. ok I love you all bye ❤️😂
CONGRATS ON THE NYX FACE AWARDS !!!!! but also this is so random but there’s that site called shein that’s kinda like wish and a lot of youtubere have done hauls from there and I went on the other day and they have a vintage reproduction section!!! And it’s super cheap!!! You should check it out but I have no idea how good it is ❤️❤️ also thank you for the love on my attempt to recreate your look
Lol I feel like I was a weirdo in my transformation I went from jeans and oversized shirts to big floofy dresses in one week 😂 people at my school thought I was weird but I loved how I looked so I stuck with it ^.^
I switched from enjoying vintage style from afar, to wearing mainly vintage from the 40s-80s, within a month all because I wore an entire outfit of my grandmothers from the 70s for spirit week.
Another tidbit for those who can't seem to find any good skirts in thrift stores. Circle skirts and pleated/gathered skirts are super easy to sew yourself! In fact a gathered skirt can be made with literally 2 rectangles. There are plenty of tutorials on UA-cam, AND you can pick the fabric you want! Lovely video as always dear!
And if you're worried about price paying for all that fabric, look at thrift stores (or for sales) and buy sheets in colors/patterns/fabrics you like. I have two or three skirts of various lengths made from different types of sheets for different weather.
I have been too scared to try Vintage style outside my house, but I've been following UA-camrs/Instagrammers and swooning over the style for a solid year now. I have been working at my job for sometime now and I feel too shy to just start dressing so differently. However, I will be hopefully starting my teaching career as an English teacher soon. After watching this video I feel more confident with finally trying to bring it out in public. I now plan on dressing in a Vintage style every Thursday for school as a throwback thursday kind of thing. Thank you for giving me the confidence to do so!
Grace Elise i started incorporating things slowly instead of all at one. ex. i would start wearing more plain skirts with one of my normal sweaters or a graphic tee and it grew from there
Comfort level advice is FO REAL yo. I've always been drawn to vintage styles, but going all out with foam rollers and perfect winged liner and billion dollar delicate old dresses is far too intimidating. But if you're looking it's really easy to find dresses with fuller skirts and more vintage silhouettes that I love without feeling like I have to do it all.
It's funny how often I hear people talk about how they want to dress comfortable. I'm like....do you not realize how comfortable a circle skirt is? Its like a big round circle of nothingness! Pants to me are like leg prisons, so I am a hundred times more comfortable in my flowy vintage style skirts and dresses than most modern dressed people who talk about comfort! The shoes....okay, accurate shoes can be uncomfortable, because women always wore heels or wedges back then. I'm totally guilty of wearing flats most of the time for comfort reasons! Oh, and pillow rollers or Rockin' Rollers are way more comfortable to sleep in than foam rollers. Plus you only have to set your hair once a week, if I had to do it every night I wouldn't be down. But once a week I can handle.
The thing is, winged liner only really took off in the fifties. In most forties make up advertising, it’s really just light mascara, a red lip, and slightly defined eyebrows, maybe blush, but that wasn’t a need. The fifties is so daunting for me, because I look really weird with winged-liner and it would take so long to do (right now my makeup takes 2 minutes which means more time to fix my hair lol)
@@whossoul sorry to bring you back to such an old comment, but I was wondering if you meant you only washed your hair once a week? if so, do you use some kind of special shampoo? I'd just really like to be able to do that and I'm looking for tips.
Good resources for vintage clothing styles are: "Everyday Fashions of the (name decade) as Pictured in Sears Catalogs", Dover Books, edited by Stella Blum, and "Blueprints of Fashion, Home Sewing Patterns of the 19xx's" by Wade Laboissonniere. Both are available from Amazon, and you can find the decade(s) that interest you. You will find trends for each year, full range of available garments for all ages/genders and accessories as well. Once you have some clear parameters in mind (or written down), your thrift or online shopping can be much more directed and focused.
i wish it was easier to find proper vintage dresses for bigger girls....etsy and ebay lie to me and say that a 28" waist is "plus sized" and i'm just sitting here like uh.....hahaha....
I totally agree. That's my one gripe with Etsy is that navigating sizes is a mess. There have been so many closed tabs on beautiful dresses cuz the waist/chest is itty bitty 😭
thank you for the channel recommendation! i had never heard of her before. but it's more of an annoyance on how etsy/ebay sizing is so unreliable - i can typically find my size at most vintage reproduction companies, but it's almost impossible to find my size on ebay/etsy. i just want a beautiful proper vintage piece one day!
I feel you! I have a 56 inch bust and have accepted the fact that I am never going to find anything vintage that fits me! I used to try though, and would find "plus sized" dress that were a size 14...in vintage sizing. That's not plus size! I eventually realized it's not going to happen, and choose to focus my effort on finding vintage accessories like hats and jewelry instead. Those can fit me and I won't be constantly dismayed about sizing with it!
I've been trying to dress more vintage for about a year now. One day I'll be 70's and the next I'll feel like 40's. All of my clothes are from thrift stores or yard sales (some from stores too). I try to look for high waisted pants with an elastic waist (that's most comfortable for me) and make it more modern with a fun button up, a turtle neck or a t-shirt. Just a suggestion for those who don't feel like doing all out vintage but still want a vintage feel. Also, this was a very helpful video! I loved the vibes and the atmosphere and I am definitely going to watch more of your videos!
P.S: For shoes, if you are able to buy from Payless, Payless has really good 20 dollar saddle shoes. I buy all the time, also Loafers are perfect! Plenty of girls in the 1940’s and 50’s wore loafers, my loafers are super comfortable, definitely my go-to shoes!
This is great. I love how you don’t assume your viewer is at any particular level and just start from your suggestions. I really liked showing how a simple hair change, a red lipstick and blouse pull a look together. Thank you!! 💕🌸
Ive often been told that having the right undergarments can make modern clothes even more vintage, can you do a video on that??? And what you do? Ive been expanding my collection of garters because i love the shape they create!
Rachel of 2018 years ago was so unsure and apologetic. Rachel of 2021 is a full blown UA-cam sensation. Rachel of any-year is a delight to watch. What a long way you have come Madam. Superb.
This new camera angle is fabulous! But lets talk about your hair- fabulous dahling! I dress vintage too, and I can never get my hair right. Always so frizzy, and it doesn't look neat and clump together like it should:( but yours is goals 💖
I always had the same problem, and for years was just convinced I can't curl my hair because it was always frizzy. Turns out I just needed to keep brushing it! Like it can take 20-30 minutes (I've heard some women who need like 45 minutes) of continuous brushing to get it to go from frizzy mess to smooth waves. I heard other people say this, and was convinced my hair was just messed up, but they were actually right: just keep brushing! Brush until its not frizzy. It will feel like it's never going to not be frizzy. Just keep brushing! You might also try other rolling methods. I can't use pillow rollers because it's makes my hair have this dry texture that in turn makes my curls more poofy and frizzy. I like the Rockin' Rollers, they are just as easy to use but leave my hair silky smooth!
I've noticed lately that a lot of the big pattern companies have brought out a ton of vintage patterns as well! I mean, if you don't sew that's probably not a huge option, but maybe good for some?
Reviews on their vintage patterns are available. Most of them are not reprints, but modern patterns that sort of have the vintage look and do not look authentic once sewn. But Vogue apparently purchased many of their patterns back from people and actually did a pretty good job at reprints instead of reproductions. So research the specific pattern number you want and what reviewers said... if you want it to look super authentic, anyways. 😊
See I love vintage and other historically inspired clothing but I just need to shift my wardrobe to more skirts. I used to think they weren’t practical and too “dressy”, but I have come to realize that I love to wear skirts and dresses and as Rachel said it doesn’t matter what other people think, it makes me happy. And most of the time skirts are perfectly practical and I can always wear leggings under if I feel the need.
Today is my first day wearing (reproduction) vintage. I am going out this afternoon and I hope the stares won't bother me so much that I'll give up. It's the first time in a very long time that I have felt this pretty. Wish me luck !
Your Welcome. You have a very interesting channel. I watched one of your videos on Henna Coloring yesterday and then asked my daughters, granddaughters, female friends and none of us had heard of it before. Thanks again for your channel. I enjoy your content and wish the vintage style was more popular in day to day activities. It really looks nice as you do it.
So odd to see modern Rachel 😛. I so want to start transitioning to a more vintage inspired look but these things aren't always as nice on someone of my waist size, but perhaps if I dressed more how I wanted to the confidence would follow.
Laura Ukulele I don't know your waist size but if you look at any vintage ladies who are very skinny or very curvy the vintage style flatters all of them. You can look at some pinup or rockabilly which is a modern take on vintage but you can find more of your size or some pictures for I to but just google it and it will bring you to either websites or you can just look at images. I always thought woman looked better in vintage.
Size should never keep you from what you like! There are lots of us plus sized girls in the community who rock the vintage style and look amazing doing it! Plus I can tell you as a seamstress who's taken many many classes of fashion design, the "new look" style of the late 1940's and 1950's is exactly the silhouette that plus size women should wear. Plus size girls look best in something that is nipped in at your waist, then flows out from that point down. The new look style (think circle skirt with fitted waist, whats frequently called the pinup look these days) was all about doing the exact same thing, nipping in at the waist to make you look as curvy as possible. Also, while there is no need to, most women back then wore foundation garments (aka shapewear)! And you might be surprised to know that most women who dress in a vintage style now also wear them, curvy or thin!
You know what, hell yeah 😊. I think I'm going to start developing my wardrobe it'd be nice to wear the styles I enjoy and stop limiting myself for no real reasons. You are all really sweet for replying to me, thank you 😘😊
My waist size in etsy dresses was going to be something like 5x! Lol. I'm not a 2 but I'm normally like XL. My boobs and waist are very close to the sane size. Ha. If you can, go to a very nice designer shop where they dress you. Armani or a smaller designer. They have sales sometimes. I once spent a ton on a real Armani suit because I put it all on and it looked amazing! It scares me how great it looked. It's the clothes. Not your body that's wrong. Great clothes look incredible. Most things on the rack aren't. I return about 90+% of everything I buy online. Lots of bad clothes.
I love your channel. You're full of good advise and inspiration. 95% of my clothes come from thrift shops, you really can find good stuff if you have the patients to look. The rest of my wardrobe comes from Etsy. Those vintage dresses really are pricey and some are very delicate; I ripped one of my 1940s dresses while taking it off and nearly had a stroke. It was small and easily fixed so all is well. Keep up the fabulous videos!!
This is SUCH a great video. I just wanted to add one more idea- Amazon. I know, some of my vintage pals are quaking in their petticoats, but hear me out. Vintage can be expensive and difficult to shop for if you are a bigger gal (like me!). A lot of vintage clothes weren't made for plus sized ladies, so, looking for real vintage can be a challenge, and vintage reconstructions can be pretty pricey. My advice to people who are starting to transition to vintage style is to get a few circle skirts, petticoats, swing dresses, and blouses on Amazon. They are relatively inexpensive, come in a variety of sizes, and can be really nice quality. You won't find everything on there (I can't, for the life of me, find a good princess coat!) but you can find some basics and if you don't like them or they don't fit, it is an easy return. You should still look at vintage/thrift stores because you never know what you might find, but look online too! Good luck!
I'm 13 and want to start slowly dressing more and more vintage (I started really wanting to after I read The Outsiders in school and we got to dress up, and I went really over board) So this helped a LOT
Great advice. The thing about vintage is that back in the day it wasn't vintage, it was modern. So, in my book it's ok to be modern too, just like you said.
I love 1930s-1950s fashion and old timey illusions of vintage and I want to express myself differently without being judged. I love history and just the feeling of being comfortable with my,thoughts on fashion is a big step for me abd your channel is such an escape for 15 yr old me. I love it
Oh, I remember how I started! I started with a *REAL* 1950s summer dress I found in my mother's closet. And when it started falling apart my mom just threw it away ((
I've wanted to do this all my life. ALL MY LIFE. Now as a 26 year old grown ass woman, I shall initiate this! Thank you thank you for these advice. I'm so excited!!
Annakin Vader I know that feel, when I was recording Rachel's portrait (my first ever speedpaint), I made him not look at it before I finish, even though it was recording and there was no logic in it :D still prefer when no one watches
I can't say this enough, but this video is amazing. It makes it so simple to learn how to just add a little vintage into your everyday wardrobe. I wear a lot of vintage skirts, but not tops myself and I feel so pretty in them. But I think after watching this I'm going to start doing just a tad more, like more hairstyles and such. Thank you Rachel for such an in-depth video!
I'm thirteen and for some reason I just love vintage style!! Everything about it I love! But people think I'm kind of weird....I feel like I was born in the wrong century. but you can do it and you gave me the courage to start! Thank you! I love your clothes by the way. :)
this is so inspiring! I'm a newbie and just starting to embrace my love for the vintage aesthetic and this is helping me go start to explore my love for this look
Also another note: don't be afraid to try out different eras!! When looking up vintage fashion on social media the most common thing to find is 1950s, but there are so many decades to chose from!
This actually gave me a huge confident boost. I wear mostly mens styles clothes as a live in a cabin in the mountains and need the durability. But I've been looking for ways to make is seem more feminie. Think lumber jill/ women's land army vibes.
How are you almost at 75k already?!?!? I subscribed when you were at 23k and that was like yesterday. Goes to show you're doing an excellent job. Keep being who you be 😉😘
This could not have come at a better time for me! Thank you for putting so much time and energy into these amazing videos. I just started dressing vintage and I am so much more happy. I never would have even known where to start without your channel! You have inspired me to dress how I have always wanted too. Thank you Rachel!
Hello Rachel! I like to see some recommends of hairstyles for really short hair. My hair is really short (like a pixie) and what I do is wearing a turban but the rest of the days I don't feel really vintage to wear my vintage clothes. Thank you for your videos and kisses from Argentina 💕💕 P.s. Sorry the grammar mistakes 😀
Damn, the outtakes are my favourite part! Vintage for everyday is waaay too much effort for me, so I like to snazz it up for events - you already dress up for them, so it can feel less "weird" to have a vintage dress and makeup - it's still a fancy dress and makeup/hair.
Thank you for taking the snobbery out of vintage ❤️. You are so good at conveying ideas and these videos are so fun as well! Well done on the NYX comp you should defo come 1st! X
Another resource if you can sew or know someone who can sew, since vintage clothes are kind of "in" right now, some of the pattern companies like Mcall's are rerunning their authentic old patterns. Even if you can't sew, they're great to look at, because they show you styles with the year and season and can help you learn what to look for in completed garments of your era.
My version of 'vintage' is more 13thC. All I can say is when beginning your best friend will be a sewing machine and, if needed, sewing classes. I admit to modernising in that I do sometimes wear make up, but I cover my hair as done in period, and sew my clothes using modern fabrics and fabric patterns. Try it, find a period(s) you enjoy the look of, and GO FOR IT. As to shops, UK and Ireland have charity shops which are a good place to begin.
Hello, I'm a Frodo Fan Club Lifetime Platinum Member and I loved this week's episode. Thank you for posting and may the stars shine upon your faces. Byyeeee.
I paired an almost knee length dress with a knit sweater and a somewhat 50s ponytail yesterday and felt extremely cute, so I plan on doing it again soon 😸
My town has a beautiful "vintage" style shop and the dresses there are gorgeous. I finally bought one (i got a petticoat too because i love it) but I don't know when I'll ever wear it 😅 they have so many I'd want but they're all wayy too expensive rip
You need way less of hand made rockabilly that you do cheap fast fashion. They're made incredibly well online at etsy. A great fit and construction means less waste as it lasts a long time and wears well.
As someone who changes styles a lot, when starting vintage style you should keep some of your modern clothes, especially the formal and casual stuff . Finding formal vintage/vintage repros took a while for me, and sometimes you just need a lazy day. Love this video!
my mom and sis were models of 50-60 era,my grandmother was a seamstress from early 1900's,so i feel i was given a great history lesson of what women did to make theirself beautiful for men of that time, ty for sharing.
People's reaction initially scared me, but I've been dressing vintage for a good four or five months now, and I actually got pretty decent reactions when I started doing it. That boosted my confidence a lot. I'm comfortable doing it, so I don't really care what people think anymore, but I generally get pretty good reactions from people. Except some of my classmates. I'm in college and some of my classmates think I'm kind of weird, but oh well. I like looking like this and that's all that matters
The big feet vs vintage shoes (or any nice shoes) struggle is real. 😔 Thank you for this video 💙 Your edits make me smile! Btw, straight hair makes you look taller somehow. 😳 I loved your modern attire!
I bought myself a vintage style dress and will make myself a 50s/60s inspired pinafore. They'll be my first pieces and I think they're the items you can most easily incorporate into your modern wardrobe. Just a simple blouse from your wardrobe with a vintage skirt makes all the difference
I want to start dressing vintage-ish. I want to start wearing woolen jumpers, waistcoats and collared shirts. I don't massively care about my hair or makeup being vintage esk. i own some jumpers I would like to wear in public but I feel like people will stare or laugh. when I put them on in my room I feel downright fabulous but when I leave the house my conference simply evaporates. anybody for any ideas how I could start wearing what i want without feeling out of place?
It can be really hard in the beginning, but trust me people will love it! I sometimes still get self conscious if I feel like my outfit is too costumey, but I think having an attitude where you don't care what the fluff other people think, it really helps, hehehe. It's easier said than done but you'll get there!
The Pinup Companion I go to a drama group every week and I'm much more confedent there than I am anywhere else. in the next couple of weeks I may wear something vintage-y there and see how it goes. thank you xx
I love vintage clothing and decor style. I feel for myself that I don’t necessarily need genuine old vintage pieces. Good modern pieces that successfully look vintage also make me happy
I channeled my inner Rachel today and went antique shopping specifically looking for vintage clothes! I found a super cool vintage clothing store and fell in love! I got a super cute 1930s skirt and a cute pair of trousers! Trying on reproduction and real vintage dresses was so fun! 😭😍❤️ I’m so happy you posted this today!
I had a beautiful pleated, dogtooth, woollen skirt that was my mothers in the 70s/80s, but still had that lovely 40s/50s feel to it. Then the love of my life (and future husband) decided to "help out" and do some laundry. He put my lovely Edinburgh Wool Mill skirt into the washing machine. I mean, if I drop two dress size I may be able to fit into it again, BUT NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
I was surprised how different you look with vintage vs. straight hair. I think you are correct that hair & makeup make a HUGE difference in carrying off vintage.
Yes! I'm always surprised by how many people who dress vintage listen to modern music! If that's what they like that's fine. I just got into vintage fashion because I started getting into rockabilly music, and the style came as an evolution of my love for the music. So it's always makes me do a double take when they don't like any music of that era!
hey Rachel, I love your videos and think you're super positive and accepting of all kinds of styles which is refreshing. I've been dressing 'vintage' (or a term I heard: hintage, which to me is modern with vintage vibes - more versatile maybe idk) for 6 years and agree with a lot of your tips. I have a lot of success at thrift stores more than online since I prefer to try things on before I purchase them. Have you ever used Poshmark? It's an app version of a thrift store/garage sale in my opinion lol. Keep up the great content! :D
Your videos gave me the courage to actually buy some vintage/history inspired clothes from thredup! Can't wait for them to arrive and style them! Thanks for being so encouraging and inspiring!
Very helpful video, Rachel. I have been trying out vintage inspired outfits and hairdos for almost 3 years now, but I havent gone full vintage cuz it's expensive. But I have collected a few vintage items & I do like you, go to thrift store to find items that look semi-vintage. Etsy is the bomb.com! Thanks for sharing those tips and don't forget the accessories and jewelry! 😙
Amazon has some nice "vintage" reproduction clothing, shockingly. Not the best quality but in comparison to someone that cannot often afford $100+ dresses, $30 and still good after 3 years isn't bad! :)
One very well made dress is worth 15 cheap ones. They fit because they're custom (etsy). They're stunning in looks and construction. Theyll wear much longer because of stronger fabric. Jmo. You could get by with way fewer clothes that make you happy! :)
First comment haha! I'm in love with you and your videos! You're my style inspiration! I have always had a fascination with vintage since I was about 5 years old, I'm now 14 haha! I am really young but I love vintage and you're videos have helped me tremendously! I'm @amourhannahxx on instagram, I've been messaging you! Thank you for all your help! I dropped what I was doing instantly to watch this! Thank you Rachel! 💗
I know I do too!! I love vintage menswear but it's definitely less popular, womppp. I watch My Vintage Love, which is a husband & wife duo, and Matt has great style and sometimes shows what he got vintage shopping if that helps!

Its so interesting, I owned a couple vintage dresses as a teen. Beautiful ones ❤ I even wore one of them (a golden lace dress) at my wedding as my second dress. I used to do my makeup vintage as well and never wore pants growing up. I then went through a weird phase where I got out of it. But now I'm falling back in love with vintage style. It feels very comfortable and beautiful to me. 💕

You look vintage without looking like you are heading to a costume party!😸
Thank you!! That's my goal! ❤️

i’d like to say that you my friend are completely right and that needs to be a thing. although i don’t quite know how yet.
My near by thrift store carries most 1950s 1940s clothing and shoes..the best part? Most of it is like $1-$5..I spend so much money 😅
Omg lucky!!!
You should make a etsy shop for those Who are not that Lucky to find clothes
Your local theatre groups must love that
You are so lucky omg

Another tidbit for those who can't seem to find any good skirts in thrift stores. Circle skirts and pleated/gathered skirts are super easy to sew yourself! In fact a gathered skirt can be made with literally 2 rectangles. There are plenty of tutorials on UA-cam, AND you can pick the fabric you want!
Lovely video as always dear!
So true!! I need to do that myself hehehe
Clarissa Lee I just look for “a line” midi skirt.
I make my own dresses with vintage pattern reprints.
And if you're worried about price paying for all that fabric, look at thrift stores (or for sales) and buy sheets in colors/patterns/fabrics you like. I have two or three skirts of various lengths made from different types of sheets for different weather.

Why am I splurging my time on Rachel videos from three years ago?
Because I can.
And I need to.
Anyone else here? Nostalgia?
“Don’t compare” such super advice! We all do it differently!
Exactly! 😊😊😊
Yes exactly!! And especially if you wear just modern undergarments like I do, it's the same if not more comfortable than modern styles!
I know is this is a year old, but I love your profile picture!!! TAZ gang!!
@@whossoul sorry to bring you back to such an old comment, but I was wondering if you meant you only washed your hair once a week? if so, do you use some kind of special shampoo? I'd just really like to be able to do that and I'm looking for tips.
Frodo is a gift to this world.
I agree 😭❤️❤️
It’s so weird seeing you in contemporary styles. Lol I love the way this is edited.
HEheheeh ❤️
Last time I was this early it was 1943
HEhehehehe ❤️
Is that Alex Turner in your profile?
Isabelle Scales Why yes. Yes it is. 😏
Kelly Abrego 😂👏🏻
Kelly Abrego last time I was alive it was 1912.
There have been so many closed tabs on beautiful dresses cuz the waist/chest is itty bitty 😭
they definitely need a better system for sizing :(
look at the UA-camr vintage or tacky! she is a plus sized girl herself and she reviews all kinds of vintage inspired brands!
thank you for the channel recommendation! i had never heard of her before.
but it's more of an annoyance on how etsy/ebay sizing is so unreliable - i can typically find my size at most vintage reproduction companies, but it's almost impossible to find my size on ebay/etsy. i just want a beautiful proper vintage piece one day!
BUT THOSE BELTS!!!! THE BELLLTTTS!!!
HEhehe they're just from the thrift store! I often forget about mentioning them honestly hahaha
RIP Payless. You will be mist.
Thank you love!! And yesss, the brushout is key!!
one starry night I have the same problem, and I have no argan oil right now, so, another suggestion besides the brushing out?
whossoul thanks for all the tips, I will definitely give it another try!
Sio interm thank you thank you thank you!
I've noticed lately that a lot of the big pattern companies have brought out a ton of vintage patterns as well! I mean, if you don't sew that's probably not a huge option, but maybe good for some?
I noticed that too! I definitely want to teach myself to sew! Definitely can be a cheaper option!
Then that's all that matters. Caring too much is a young kid's thing.
This was great. You do the 30 & 40 era so well.
Thank you so much!!
Ok Rachel I've binged your entire video library please more content 🧡
You would rock it!!! Vintage suits any body type and I'm sure you'd look amazing! ❤️
I don’t even care about vintage style, I just like your personality and the whole quiet calm vibe.
Yess exactly! Oh no, a rip in a vintage dress is the wORST feeling, hahaha! Thank you my love!
I'm dressing kinda vintage most of the time and everyone that ever reacted to my style was very positive and loved it, never received a bad reaction.
Yes! People love seeing styles that are out of the 'norm' and it's fun getting different reactions!
Great advice. The thing about vintage is that back in the day it wasn't vintage, it was modern. So, in my book it's ok to be modern too, just like you said.
Exactly! There's no right or wrong 😊❤️
And when it started falling apart my mom just threw it away ((
7:33 I bought that green embroidered skirt at goodwill for $3 last week! What are the odds.
At Home in the Garden omg no way that's amazing 😂❤️
Lucky! :)
Thanks you for
"All that jazz" 😉
HEheheheh ❤️
I've wanted to do this all my life. ALL MY LIFE. Now as a 26 year old grown ass woman, I shall initiate this! Thank you thank you for these advice. I'm so excited!!
I make my husband put headphones on when I'm recording. I feel like I can't speak to the camera if I think someone can hear me speaking.
Hahaha YES, SAME. I'm so glad you're the same way 😂😂😂😂
Annakin Vader I know that feel, when I was recording Rachel's portrait (my first ever speedpaint), I made him not look at it before I finish, even though it was recording and there was no logic in it :D still prefer when no one watches
I'm a singer. I'd be screwed immediately, lol.
I love your attitude of "there are no real rules here, just do what makes you happy, but here is what I know to maybe help you".
It's so true! I think there's a lot of pressure sometimes to dress a certain way but there totally isn't ❤️
Been dressing 80s for around 2 years now but I just recently picked up a beAUTIFUL 1940s dress and I think I'm about to revert 40 years ahah
was having a flat day today - watched this and got dressed up in my one vintage dress and it made me soo much happier
Big time loving your videos! Thank you for making such informative stuff!!!
Your videos make me so happy because you're approachable and make sewing seem less daunting. Thank you!
Rachel you’re going to get me fired from my job! I received your notification and had to stop to watch 😂😂 Gotta love your videos! 💕
Rogelio Torres Hehehhee you da sweetest! Just show them some Frodo face and they won't fire you 😂
Rogelio Torres latino right? 😁
You are so sweet! You’re not preachy, ever. Thank you for sharing!
Thank YOU! ❤️
I'm thirteen and for some reason I just love vintage style!! Everything about it I love! But people think I'm kind of weird....I feel like I was born in the wrong century. but you can do it and you gave me the courage to start! Thank you! I love your clothes by the way. :)
im beginning to dress vintage (1970s) so this is very helpful, thanks!!
this is so inspiring!
Keep being who you be 😉😘
I have no idea!? 😂😂 thank you so so much sweetness ❤️❤️❤️❤️
This could not have come at a better time for me! Thank you for putting so much time and energy into these amazing videos. I just started dressing vintage and I am so much more happy. I never would have even known where to start without your channel! You have inspired me to dress how I have always wanted too. Thank you Rachel!
Yay! Thank you my love ❤️❤️
Hello Rachel! I like to see some recommends of hairstyles for really short hair.
My hair is really short (like a pixie) and what I do is wearing a turban but the rest of the days I don't feel really vintage to wear my vintage clothes.
Thank you for your videos and kisses from Argentina 💕💕
P.s. Sorry the grammar mistakes 😀
Noted! I need to borrow a friend that has short hair so I can try to make a video about it!
The Pinup Companion Thank youuu sooo much! You're the best 😄
It’s definitely do-able! Audrey Hepburn wore the most iconic pixie cut of all time in the 40’s!
Damn, the outtakes are my favourite part!
Vintage for everyday is waaay too much effort for me, so I like to snazz it up for events - you already dress up for them, so it can feel less "weird" to have a vintage dress and makeup - it's still a fancy dress and makeup/hair.
Totally!!
You make me want to do vintage outfit photos on Instagram just so that you'll see them. Thank you Rachel !
Hahaha aww you so cuuuteEEE
My version of 'vintage' is more 13thC. All I can say is when beginning your best friend will be a sewing machine and, if needed, sewing classes. I admit to modernising in that I do sometimes wear make up, but I cover my hair as done in period, and sew my clothes using modern fabrics and fabric patterns. Try it, find a period(s) you enjoy the look of, and GO FOR IT. As to shops, UK and Ireland have charity shops which are a good place to begin.
I kept repeating 0:10 - 0:16 cause I thought it was the funniest intro to a video ever XD
Great video as always, Rachel! Much love! ❤️❤️❤️
Hehehehe thank u bb 😂❤️
Hello, I'm a Frodo Fan Club Lifetime Platinum Member and I loved this week's episode. Thank you for posting and may the stars shine upon your faces. Byyeeee.
lesson learned: schmooze it
Hahhahhaa ALWAYS 🙌
As someone starting out, I appreciate this video for giving out ideas on how to start.
I am just here for the dog and the end bloopers. Funny stuff...
Hehe thank you!
Totally agree with the whole hair/makeup thing. I’m some who like a ‘60s style, and getting bangs really added to the whole look for me
Yeees!!
This is really helpful! I also love using etsy to search for vintage things. I don't buy them because I cheap but I still like to look! 😂
Hahaah yup sometimes I totally just 'window shop' too 😂😂😂
You need way less of hand made rockabilly that you do cheap fast fashion. They're made incredibly well online at etsy. A great fit and construction means less waste as it lasts a long time and wears well.
@@windsofmarchjourneyperrytr2823 for sure, I haven’t shopped fast fashion in 5-6 years, I only buy second hand or sustainable.
As someone who changes styles a lot, when starting vintage style you should keep some of your modern clothes, especially the formal and casual stuff . Finding formal vintage/vintage repros took a while for me, and sometimes you just need a lazy day. Love this video!
LOVE YOUR CHANNEL RACHEL ❤️
Ahhh thank you my love!
my mom and sis were models of 50-60 era,my grandmother was a seamstress from early 1900's,so i feel i was given a great history lesson of what women did to make theirself beautiful for men of that time, ty for sharing.
You make me happy :) I love my vintage look but modern is cool too . My giant feet are the devil for vintage shoes lol
Awww heehee ❤️❤️ YES SAME lolol
People's reaction initially scared me, but I've been dressing vintage for a good four or five months now, and I actually got pretty decent reactions when I started doing it. That boosted my confidence a lot. I'm comfortable doing it, so I don't really care what people think anymore, but I generally get pretty good reactions from people. Except some of my classmates. I'm in college and some of my classmates think I'm kind of weird, but oh well. I like looking like this and that's all that matters
The big feet vs vintage shoes (or any nice shoes) struggle is real. 😔
Thank you for this video 💙 Your edits make me smile!
Btw, straight hair makes you look taller somehow. 😳 I loved your modern attire!
HAhaha it really is!!! Thank you my love!
You look like Amy Pond in the thumbnail. Modern or vintage, you're always gorgeous!
Heehee aww I love Amy! Thank you so much!
Heehehe yay!! ❤️❤️
Oo that sounds amazing! and OH NOOOOOOOOOOOOO that's the worst!
I was surprised how different you look with vintage vs. straight hair. I think you are correct that hair & makeup make a HUGE difference in carrying off vintage.
getting into the music of whichever era you're going for helps too ;)
Yes! I'm always surprised by how many people who dress vintage listen to modern music! If that's what they like that's fine. I just got into vintage fashion because I started getting into rockabilly music, and the style came as an evolution of my love for the music. So it's always makes me do a double take when they don't like any music of that era!
Hehe true! I listen to mostly modern folk music but I have a playlist or two that puts me right in the vintage mood!
My goodness! I absolutely adore your self deprecating humor!
❤️❤️❤️❤️
hey Rachel, I love your videos and think you're super positive and accepting of all kinds of styles which is refreshing. :D
Ooo no I haven't tried Poshmark yet but I totally need to! ❤️
Your videos gave me the courage to actually buy some vintage/history inspired clothes from thredup! Can't wait for them to arrive and style them! Thanks for being so encouraging and inspiring!
Also I love Frodo with my whole-ass-heart! (Don't tell my puppy I said that!)
me watching rachel and jessica kellgrenn-fozard: hey vintage style looks cool to try
hot topic: band tees
I much prefer using what’s already out there to create your own style, vintage included. I think you’re a beautiful genius!
Totally!! ❤️
Hannah Gracexoxox same
Camryn Gorham ☺️☺️
That's amazing! I wish I had known my love for vintage that young!! ❤️❤️
In the fall and winter I do vintage and retro and spring and summer I go boho! Not sure why just feels right for me ❤️🌿
i really wish there were more vintage channels 4 boys i love the style so much but WHAT DO I DO i am maLEee 😫
I know I do too!! I love vintage menswear but it's definitely less popular, womppp. I watch My Vintage Love, which is a husband & wife duo, and Matt has great style and sometimes shows what he got vintage shopping if that helps!
The Pinup Companion oof thank you i’ll b checking them out :))
ryan GAY i follow a dutch couple on instagram that are completely into the 40s lifestyle. instagram.com/tom.van.het.hof?igshid=w2a1im8nasag click the link for his insta and get inspired :)
one of the happiest moments for me was discovering that snoods were popular in the 40's
never have a bad "vintage" hair day again!!!!
I know a poodle that wears those in the rain. His color is black and his rain/show gear is orange. I could match the dog, lol
This is such useful advice, I've set myself a mini challenge of wearing a red lip and vaguely vintage clothes for a week to see how it goes!
Mary Janes are a good generic shoe style for vintage wear
YOU and all your outfits are absolutely beautiful
