Real 737 Pilot Pre-Flight Briefing | Preparing for a Realistic Flight in Flight Simulator

- In this tutorial I step through the process I go through prior to operating the 737. You can also apply these steps before your virtual flight in your respective simulator for a more realistic experience.

The contrast between the professional teaching and the on screen gags never fails to amuse me!
Got to squeeze a meme in every tutorial!

Mix of professionalism and memes (along with being extremely informative of course) is what keeps me coming back to your tutorials. Love it
Classic Jim, always forgetting to do something.
Whahahaha that airbridge really loved the alpaca airplane!
Very useful walkthrough Capt. Thank you for taking the time!
More fantastic, altruistic content, thank you. I had no interest in aviation a year ago and now it's an obsession because of people like you❤
Jim: No passenger will be left behind even they are late that is why the jetway still attached du ring pushback.
Hi Capt. Very interesting, and reassuring.
Apart from all the info being provided electronically, procedurally there is nothing different from my first overseas land away, from RAF Finningley to RAF Gibraltar, via Oporto, in a Dominie in 1974.
However, the OFP was produced by hand using the Operating Data Manual, a Dalton Computer, a pencil and mental arithmetic !
I now also use Flight Radar 24 as a quick way to get “actuals” and to see which R/W is in use when there is a cross-wind.
Also useful to see how much tailwind is acceptable in the case of airfields like Malpensa, where the Alps predicate an approach from the south where possible.
Cheers
Chris
Awesome - was wondering about this recently and couldn’t find any guidance. As a suggestion, for another video, could you walk us through how you do a full briefing pre-take off briefing please?
Fantastic video. Loved the content and the chuckle at the end 👏
Love your vids, very informative and completely heightens my own flight sim experience. I fly strictly VR and was wondering...have you ever tried it?
This video will come in handy. Thanks!
Awesome!
I gotta study but im liking the videos already cuz I know it would be high quality thank you fd2s for these amazing videos keep up the good work dude

Brilliant
Excellent…
Still learning :D Thank you for materials. My brain will explode hah
You R Great
Thank you for the very nice guide through! may i ask you which app did you use for the Takeoff Performance? looks nice and clean :)
Not fd2s, but he normally uses a performance calculator that’s only available for use by actual pilots. (Unfortunately.). He’s got access via his operator.
Thank you ❤️❤️
You’re welcome! 😊

Really helpful stuff. Are there websites that will generate random but realistic pax/cargo payloads for a given flight route/company and aircraft?
I believe just enter auto into simbrief
Its possible to create a custom profile in Simbrief for a particular aircraft operated by a specific airline with respect to max number of passengers (which can be found on airfleets.net using the livery registration/tail code) and perhaps even deduce a weight for a typical passenger (with or without baggage). Each airline website will state the baggage allowance (according to cabin class) if you so wish - or just go with the Simbrief defaults.
If you google "airline cost index database" you should find a suitable source for typical cost indexes used by various airlines.
I'm picturing Alpacacino reading the TAFs of the day: "OH WOW! CAVOK? ALRIGHT!" (with a rough Al Pacino voice)
I have a question, I see a lot of your flights on vatsim, but I don’t see Alpaca as a VA, how would I join?
Excellent video!…as usual.
The NOTAMs are so numerous and I usually need to look at the Aerodrome map to keep track of what is being addressed; not to mention the enroute NOTAMs. Obviously it’s too much info to commit to memory. How do you sort that information and keep track of it?
by ignoring it ;) 😂
@@piotrkuler2474 I hear ya! I mean that’s what I do but it’s IRL😂
When checking the Notams do you check the aerodrome notams and the enroute notams or only aerodrome?
Fortunately one of the things that real LIDO flight plans do that simbrief doesn't is it will filter out NOTAM's that are not relevant to you. On top of that it highlights in bold key words like CLSD, INOP, U/S, RWY, etc which helps draw your eye to what's important, that way you can skim through and see what will impact you directly.

If the bridge was attached, did you shut the doors ??????
Hi Capt so sorry to be a pain but what can I use as a performance take off calculator for the Zibo MOD on my desktop to get the correct take off calculations, thank you sir 😊
Hi David,
As you're aware I'm fortune to be able to use the Real Boeing OPT from my work iPad.
I believe some people use this version called OPTSim, here is a link to the discord - discord.gg/NRbMGYMU

@@flightdeck2sim brilliant thank you very very much sir 😁
I never saw an "emergency turn back procedure" in none of the airport charts I have used so far. Where can I find these?
As mentioned at 05:30, this is something you might not have access to. This is a turn designed and built by the performance department to ensure you have no terrain/obstacles issues in the event of an engine failure after V1.

@@flightdeck2sim Thank you for the information! I always skip the takeoff briefing part because I feel I have nothing to really mention there.
Hi Capt where can I download the Alpaca Airways livery for my Zibo Mod 737 please, thank you
Hi David!
Here you go! (This is the link for the one in this tutorial)

As a member you can access all the links for liveries n the FD2S Livery channel in discord, the liveries are available regardless of member status and are often linked in the live stream chat when people ask for the livery, especially at the start of streams!

@@flightdeck2sim fantastic thank you so much sir
Can somebody tell me which cloud addon is used in Sim ?
I wanna purchase it. It looks like real
It's called Enhanced Skyscapes! A worthwhile investment for some high quality clouds!

Why did you show the Microsoft Flight simulator logo in the thumbnail? Its a good video just a misleading thumbnail.
Hi Herbert, Glad you enjoyed the video. I put both a logo of X-Plane 11 and Microsoft Flight Simulator as this a tutorial on how to prepare for a realistic flight in X-Plane 11 and Microsoft Flight Simulator.
FD2S
Jebidiah Alpacacino? Seems like a low budget Al Pacino😂
Captain FD2S sounds sick :( hope it's not covid
Did I?? Could be the other mic! All well here!
@@flightdeck2sim Ye! Actually sounded like you had a stuffed nose.
Thumbnail is misleading - says MSFS and I got hopeful for a 737 in MSFS... but this is in Xplane using Zibo according to the video description.
Good video though!
1. In the thumbnail it has both X-Plane and MSFS logos.
2. This is a tutorial, why would someone expect a new airplane reveal in it?
3. We are not in 2025 so unless you discovered a time machine rest assured no 737 exists for MSFS.
@@EverydayNormalGeek pmdg are doing final touch ups to it's 737 for msfs 2020. Will be on the platform in mid January
