  • Airline pilots flying commercially both passengers and/or cargo are required to legally have a filed and valid flight plan for their flight routing. Airbus Airline pilots, Captain Faraz Sheikh & Senior First Officer Laurent Frichot present you with this video on Flight-Plans.
The flight plan includes a number of sections and information which Pilots use to analyse and check prior to their flight during their briefing. In this video we give you an example flight plan whilst you join us as our First officer/Co-Pilot to see what we go through in our everyday operation and the decisions involved prior to departure from the gate.
We will show you a real-life example of a typical flight plan that takes us from departure to destination and what's included in the plan. We even give an example of a standard instrument departure and high-level charts such as significant weather and winds. The flight plan in reality includes:
    - Aircraft information: Registration, MSN numbers, flight numbers, ATC call-sign, etc.
    - Aircraft weights: such as Maximum Zero Fuel, Take Off, Landing weights, Payloads, etc.
    - Flight data and times: Block times, scheduled times, cruise levels, etc.
Operational Routing: Departure/Arrival SID's/STAR's including runways, airways, waypoints, step cruise levels, etc.
    - Fuel planning: Basic fuel required, e.g., Taxi, Trip, Alternate, Final Reserve, Contingency and extra fuel.
    - Weather: includes departure, en-route airports, destination and all possible alternates.
    - NOTAMS (Notices to Airmen): information on airport infrastructure that can affect the operation.
    - Significant Weather & Wind charts: Weather charts showing winds, cloud activity, jet-streams, turbulence, etc.
We talk you through each of the sections above, highlighting important parts to you and demonstrating how we use such information in the real world during our line operation.
Whether you are a cadet or trainee pilot, Avgeek, Aviation enthusiast or future pilot, join us in this virtual flight from LSGG (Geneva) to LPFR (Faro) as we break down the flight plan for you and discuss what processes and analysis we carry out as Pilot's in order to come up with options that meet legal requirements but more importantly a safe air transport operation.
We hope you will find this aviation video informative and more importantly educative in some way. If you like it, please share it in the aviation community and tell people about our channel so we can create more exciting and awesome content for all of you.
