      Keep talking. I used to just forget and not speak for a couple hours then feel really guilty because I’d never get anything back. Now my boy is saying words and putting words together. Maybe not as functionally but I believe that will come. Such highs and lows being an ASD parent but the highs are amazing.

    If u talk about things they like but mingle it with what your day will entail, they become enthusiastic and pipe up! For instance we will go in grandma's blue car, blue like tank engine.....grandma's blue tank engine car

    Yeah, they arent parrots so dont train them like one. They have to actually understand why it needs to be done, and "because i said so" can only go so far. It's good in some situations where arguing can get you in trouble like cleaning up or doing what was ALREADY expected of you, but your kid doesnt come out of the womb knowing this sort of thing. The first couple of times, no matter how simple the task, you have to make sure they understand it.

    We are a Greek family living in Germany so it’s bilingual House. My 3 year old autistic child has chosen as primary language English. He communicates only a little and if so he does it in English. I really don’t know what to do. Quit the German and Greek and start English? Or continue? The therapists are divided on this matter. 😕

    • @swapnakoodu1528
      @swapnakoodu1528 8 місяців тому +1

      Continue with English. The whole household should start speaking in English. Not only to him but also between other members of the family. Otherwise it will cause utter confusion in the child. It would be somewhat ok for a normal child but for an autistic child to process so much would be too difficult. I am autistic myself, also my son. God Bless ❤

Sometimes he use one word in one language, next word he speaks in another language. He already has a speech problem and these language issues causes extra trouble for him.

    There absolutely ARE lazy kids, or kids that just dont want to listen. We should treat them with more understanding and patience, yes, but good behavior gets good rewards, and bad behavior gets bad rewards, in the end.
    Its as if u grow up, and then just forget what it was like to be little.

    • @HiIAmGabe
      @HiIAmGabe 4 місяці тому

      What do you consider lazy? Why should they want to listen? Being polite is a social norm. Do you have something important to tell them? Are they aware why it is important? Some children might notice how you are punish or reward them for behaviors. If they don't understand why these behaviors are important, that actually might be very frustrating and make them angry with you.

    • @BleachedWheat
      @BleachedWheat 4 місяці тому

      @@HiIAmGabe One, respecting children is important, duh, noone said otherwise, as I MYSELF am an advocate for child rights, which is the whole constitution.
      Two, your an adult, grow up. Do u think ur the first person to comprehend the details of the matter?
      At the end, for their own good, AS LONG AS THEY ARE NOT ABUSED, then they have to obey, EVEN IF THEY DONT UNDERSTAND!!!
      They will understand eventually, that's literally the whole point of teaching.
      Teachers need to grow up and accept the fact that kids have technology, and children have to obey legal orders from legal guardian adults, such as school staff.
      If school staff does something wrong, then they have to be disobeyed and fought. DUH!!!
      Rocket science ain't it?

    • @HiIAmGabe
      @HiIAmGabe 4 місяці тому

      @@BleachedWheat Why are you so offended? I simply asked some questions. It does not help to say "they have to obey the rules". That is your problem. You stick too much to social norms. They don't have to do anything. The only time you have to do something is if there is a reason. You don't have to breath. You have to breath to stay alive. You don't have to go to the toilet. You have to go to the toilet to relief yourself. Autistic children often think very logically. So you can not make them adhere to any implicit social rules if they don't understand why. And if you want them to adhere to a rule because you will give them a treat or because else you will punish them (sounds like abuse), they might not understand why you want to enforce such behavior. They might ask why you don't just give them the reward directly? That can be a highly frustrating experience for such a child. I am not trying to offend you. I just wish this child could be more understood and not just regarded as lazy or disrespectful. I, myself, was to an extent considered a complicated, disrespectful or lazy child. However, that was never my intention. I was just misunderstood. It is so sad to see how many neurotypicals refuse to think outside their own box and show some empathy. This is not a one way road and obviously you are the adult and they are the child so I would appreciate it if you took the longer journey traveling down their road to understand them and show them some compassion. Thank you.

    • @BleachedWheat
      @BleachedWheat 4 місяці тому

      @@HiIAmGabe In order to stay alive, u HAVE to breath. In order to relieve yourself, u HAVE to use the toilet.
      There's NO way around it. U HAVE to do certain things. It don't matter who u r, how old u r, or anything. Sometimes u have to do things, period.
      If u don't, u r a failure and a fool. U have failed foolishly, and u will die. U will fall into ur own web of failings and die.
      The truth is, unless it's superior gives u an order that is either, A, illegal, or B, immoral, then YES, u have to obey, or u will be punished somehow.
      If they tell u to do something illegal or immoral, then disobey and resist, or be punished by shame from peers later on.
      BUT BARRING THAT, u have to obey ur boss/superior/teacher. Because obeying them will give u rewards in life, as learning will empower u.
      U will live like a king, if u obey ur goodly teachers. U will live like a redeemed good man, if u disobey ur wicked teachers.
      But, if u obey ur bad teachers, then u will live good for awhile, but then die from ur own metaphorical walls closing in around u, when ur karma comes acalling, then because u obeyed bad people and did bad things, therefore bad things have now come upon u.
      But if u do good, like ur good teachers taught u, then u will have a good long life, free of the nonsense.
      Now, children are our future, as u know. Also, we keep them alive off our hard earned money.
      They r not old enough to know better, that's why we put them thru school.
      If u don't raise them right, they will turn out to be violent criminals who Leach off welfare.
      If u DO raise them correctly, then they will be good people, who make their own way thru, paying for themselves and their family, making good decisions that make good impacts on their communities.
      THEREFORE, for the sake of a better tomorrow, it is rightful for parents to require their children to learn and be good, and it's rightful for children to obey parents and teachers, so that they will receive lifelong blessings.
      That is the standard, the norm.
      But, and that's a BIG old butt, if someone does something wrong to the kid, or tries to force the kid to do something that they feel is wrong, then the kid has every right to disobey and resist, just like and adult would have that right.
      This is America, the constitution is the law of the land, and it applies to every citizen from day one, whether he be from migration, or birth.
      If a teacher abuses or forces actions of the 2 types(illegal or immoral), then yes, the kid has every right to disobey/resist/protest. Even if he's condemned, as long as he's right.

    • @BleachedWheat
      @BleachedWheat 4 місяці тому +1

      @@HiIAmGabe I'm sorry for being mean. This is a subject that touches my heart dearly, as I myself went thru school fighting against certain teachers, because they wanted to act like kings or queens, forgetting the law is a thing.
      I had to fight for my rights.
      But with that said, I'm still smart enough to understand why we send children to school in the first place, and it's for the good of them and society. The only way they will become good is if they obey goodly teachings.
      Of course rights apply to children, and a lot of teachers need to calm down and accept it or find other jobs, but on the other hand, kids nowadays need to stop being little shits and obey goodly instruction. I too was a little shit sometimes so I know it's a thing.
      But just cause I did, doesn't mean it was right. It's NOT hypocritical for me to say it's bad while also having done it in the past.
      That nonsense haha.
      Experience is part of learning.

    What kind of abusive weirdness is "don't show expectation" for a thing "you want (i.e expect) them to do". How about - why are you expecting speech at all? Why the deficit model? Why not assume competence and diversity?

    • @AgentsofSpeech
      @AgentsofSpeech  6 місяців тому

      We don't assume competence because it's important to know where the child is at. So we can customize and adjust our language input. That'll make them feel more comfortable.
      We don't assume diversity, because again, we need to account for individual needs so we can provide the best care for children.
