OK Computer should definitely be the next RH record you react to. It's easily one of the greatest records ever made.

I'd definitely recommend doing OK Computer and Kid A right after to understand what we as fans at the time went through. It's quite a trip.

I totally agree and recommend checking out other albums. Definitely 1 of THE most diverse and evolved bands of all time (TOOL & Pink Floyd being the other top 2 of 3)

If you like the dreamy vocals and mysterious vibe i strongly recomend you listen to 'Go Slowly'. Its a beautiful song but it somehow landed on the b side of In Rainbows even when Jonny (guitar player) begged Thom (singer) to include it on the main album.
Btw, what sort of music/bands do you like the most?

You should do a stoned reaction to Kid A. Someone recommended that in another video and I think it would be a cool experience. Super glad you liked In Rainbows. I think it's a pretty great entry point to get into Radiohead. Looking forward to your next reaction!

You may already know them but if not, I reckon you'd love Oceansize. They have crazy time signatures and weirdness like Tool mixed with a load of beautiful guitars and melodies like Radiohead. They're not really like either of those bands but if you like both of them, I reckon you'd like Oceansize. Check out "Drag the 'Nal / Dead Dogs an' All Sorts / As the Smoke Clears" (3 songs but they go together as 1 - it's 1 video on UA-cam), "Trail of Fire", "Unfamiliar" and "Music for a Nurse" are great. They've got loads of amazing songs. Probably not popular enough for a reaction video but I'd definitely check them out.

Yes! I’m so glad there’s people who are still listening to them in 2021! One of the most creative rock bands of the past 2 decades.

If you haven't already, check out Vox's video "the secret rhythm behind Radiohead's videotape" that explains the audio illusion the band is doing with this song, why this version is different than the live at bonnaroo version, and why this Thom Yorke's personal favorite is hard to play live because the audience is usually messing with the band.

you have drums in the background so i assume you'll understand a fun fact about the song, the piano is syncopated and lands on beat 2, beat 1 is silent for most of the song, the drum machine thingy marks the beat 1
I really hope you do more radiohead!

  • @chevtones

still have a hard time wrapping my head around the syncopated beat

    • @sarahzentexas
      @sarahzentexas 3 роки тому

It’s syncopated, but perfectly in sync with the piano and his vocals, though.

    • @exdeath99
      @exdeath99 3 роки тому +3

Especially cause the beat is really upbeat. The piano lands on the "and" before the 1st and 3rd beat, so the hidden beat is twice faster than the piano feel

This album review was awesome, thank you! I have a suggestion. If & when you get to Kid A (album), I suggest you do continuous full listen reaction of the album & then splice up the videos into individual “reactions” & upload at your pace. This album is best heard continuously. By the end of the 4th track, you should feel overwhelmed. I would even much rather if you’d listen to it on you own completely focused without the pressure of forming a review…it’s that special IMO.

All Radiohead albums are great, but this album just consistently hits a chord in my soul. I'm not gonna say it's my favorite, but it's the definitely the most played
I think you'd really enjoy Pineapple Thief In Exile or The Final Thing on my Mind. Beautiful tracks. Gavin Harrison the former King Crimson and Porcupine Tree drummer joined on this album in 2016.

I believe lyrically the song is about someone dying and making a videotape for the person they love. This is what makes Radiohead so cool though - you have this complex warm instrumentation, with a really eerie sound to it at the same time (much like Yorke’s voice), and then his lyricism is the cherry on top. Much like tool tbh, they all bring something different to the table to make a very unique sound.

Coincidentally, that's actually what the song is about, more or less. It's basically Thom saying to his family, friends, and maybe even his fans, not be sad when he passes because we'll still have the memories, photos, and videos of him.

When I'm at the pearly gates
This'll be on my videotape, my videotape
    Mephistopheles is just beneath
And he's reaching up to grab me
This is one for the good days
And I have it all here
    In red, blue, green
    Red, blue, green
    You are my centre
    When I spin away
    Out of control on videotape
    On videotape
    On videotape
    On videotape
    On videotape
This is my way of saying goodbye
'Cause I can't do it face to face
    I'm talking to you before
    No matter what happens now
    You shouldn't be afraid
Because I know today has been
The most perfect day I've ever seen

Good on the record, but prefer the live versions of this song, not the earlier, fast Bonaroo version from 2006, but the versions on the In Rainbows tour and after. Saitama and From The Basement specifically.
