Hey U-2! great job on gathering things that you need-what you cannot use you can sell and re -buy! Glad to see you working on the Hull again. That was indeed music to the ears hearing that engine running - well done yet again you two. I couldn’t tell what the old one was but having to get a new alternator gives you the opportunity to upgrade it anyway, I’d suggest don’t go for a cheap or scrapheap option here as you’ll be grateful for the output if you do upgrade it. I’m really enjoying seeing you two get to grips with this boat.
While you have the luxury of the engine out of the boat best practices would dictate you do the following PM steps- -replace head gasket -replace front timing gear gaskets -replace front & read crankshaft seals & gaskets -replace valve cover gasket -replace water pump -replace thermostat -replace starter -replace alternator !
Hi Start and Marina, I'm so happy to see how your new engine seem to be in an excellent condition. Now you mus find time to fit it aboard ! All the best, good luck..👍👍👍⛵⚓
my first car was positive ground (earth) and I still have it and a few other positive ground tractors some of which are converted and some that aren't I always check where which side of the battery goes and I bet now so will you. Good call on the scraping v.s. sanding. Looks like you are making good progress there!

alternator is an easy fix just small component that bolts onto rear not sure though the correct name of the part ,and your engine sounds realy good smooth and quiet with lots of power will run for years
Hey guys, checked out your wish list, most items are not available. Can you have a look and see if there are alternatives you'd prefer or just wait until these become available again.

That looks a lovely engine are you changing the rubber hoses seeing as the paint has cracked shame about the alternator I was wondering why you was changing the gearbox till I saw the original one there is quite a difference in size but the engine sounds sweet good luck 😊😊
Thanks. Paint on hoses, is just paint. The alternator should be an easy fix once tested. The gear box differences, one is angled and the other is parallel. Our engine bed already has a tapper. Cheers for watching 😃
I feel for you with all the scraping and sanding. Just been through a similar exercise myself which took most of June. Little by little, then one day you find that its done.
A heat gun can speed things up and save an awful lot of time, mess that is better spent elsewhere but it has to be controlled. Get yourself a BBQ & beer esky & enjoy the sun while you're at it.
Would a belt sander be a bit easier? A bit faster? I think we used one on our hull. It did not take 2 weeks. More like a few days. Cheers. S/V Cork~Texas 🇺🇸
I did you a belt sander on the last boat and I prefer the orbital. I'll give it another go if I can find one. Hope it's going well on your boat. Cheers for watching 😃
after reversing the polarity with the cables did you happen to check the rectifier bridge on the alternator? much cheaper to replace that part than the whole alt. but anyway great job! so excited to see what happens next! Engine sounds lovely
The motor sound very well. All the details around is just a matter of time. Nice boat when it will be ready, may be next year? Moore than 40 feet it looks, what factory? All the best from Greece.
Alternator - most likely you just fried the diodes which or diode module which should be easy enough to replace. Or just find an alternator rebuild shop and drop it off for less money than a rebuild they'll have it running in jig time.
Glad your engine started. Husband wants to send you money. I have a lasting ringng in my ears. Next time, maybe edit out the long beep at such a high frequency. Lol

You know this. Can't be penny pinching with the heart of the boat.

While you have the luxury of the engine out of the boat best practices
would dictate you do the following PM steps-
-replace head gasket
-replace front timing gear gaskets
-replace front & read crankshaft seals & gaskets
-replace valve cover gasket
-replace water pump
-replace thermostat
-replace starter
-replace alternator
!
You've hit the nail on the head.
You'll need to keep watching 🫢

Hi Start and Marina, I'm so happy to see how your new engine seem to be in an excellent condition. Now you mus find time to fit it aboard ! All the best, good luck..👍👍👍⛵⚓
That's the plan!
Autumn is the aim for the install.
Until then, sanding.

💯
⛵️🍻🤣👍🐌
my first car was positive ground (earth) and I still have it and a few other positive ground tractors some of which are converted and some that aren't I always check where which side of the battery goes and I bet now so will you. Good call on the scraping v.s. sanding. Looks like you are making good progress there!
Silly mistake but that's how you learn.
No bigger luckily. Maybe just a diode repair.
Something and nothing.
Got this big box of spares to organise but that's a job for future Stu.

1 engine. Sounds good. Compression ok? You may have said already but is it raw water cooled or heat exchanger?
Now the fun of fitting it.
Hiya, hope you're well. Heat exchanger (that was a pig to remove)
So happy to have a major component sorted.
Now I'm on the mission to find sails. No rush, probably get the mast up in the spring.
Had a few other results of late. Send a message on fb to find out more.
Don't want to let the cat out of the bag.
How's the house coming along?
Cheers for your support and friendship, miss chatting with you.
alternator is an easy fix just small component that bolts onto rear not sure though the correct name of the part ,and your engine sounds realy good smooth and quiet with lots of power will run for years
I'm sure it's fine but as you say an easy fix.
I'll test it at some point. No rush.

Hey guys, checked out your wish list, most items are not available. Can you have a look and see if there are alternatives you'd prefer or just wait until these become available again.
Thanks.
All we need is the encouragement to keep sanding.
Or second hand sails if you have.
Cheers for watching 😃
that was some risk.....you really bought an engine for 3 grand without first heaing it go.....I don't know, but i'm really glad it works!!!!
A little bit of faith goes a long way.
We are not gamblers but sometimes you've got to take a gamble.
It turned over that was good enough for me.

That's a great news. You have an engine!
You know this!
Step by little step.
One day we might have a float home.
Cheers for watching 😃
Wow that Yanmar was a real bargain.
Hopefully.
We done a bit of work on the motor and it's nearly ready to be installed.
Now got to make the boat ready...
🤣🤣🤣

That looks a lovely engine are you changing the rubber hoses seeing as the paint has cracked shame about the alternator I was wondering why you was changing the gearbox till I saw the original one there is quite a difference in size but the engine sounds sweet good luck 😊😊
Thanks.
Paint on hoses, is just paint.
The alternator should be an easy fix once tested.
The gear box differences, one is angled and the other is parallel.
Our engine bed already has a tapper.

I feel for you with all the scraping and sanding. Just been through a similar exercise myself which took most of June. Little by little, then one day you find that its done.
Let's hope so.
It's taking an age...

Hope it's going well on your boat.

after reversing the polarity with the cables did you happen to check the rectifier bridge on the alternator? much cheaper to replace that part than the whole alt. but anyway great job! so excited to see what happens next! Engine sounds lovely
Tbh I haven't even checked. But I'm sure it will be fine, fixable or not.
We are still a little way off.
Cheers for watching 😃
You guys kill me...love watching your content! Hope y'all keep them coming 😊
We're fixing and filming.
Glad you enjoy.

The motor sound very well. All the details around is just a matter of time. Nice boat when it will be ready, may be next year? Moore than 40 feet it looks, what factory? All the best from Greece.
Thank you.
It's a 1974 Gulfstar.
Hopefully one day we get her sailing again.

Alternator - most likely you just fried the diodes which or diode module which should be easy enough to replace. Or just find an alternator rebuild shop and drop it off for less money than a rebuild they'll have it running in jig time.
I'm sure it's an easy fix. Haven't even tested it.
That's a winters night job.
Cheers for watching 😃
👍🏻
🍻⛵️🐌
Alternator may just need a rectifier possibly ?
We got a new. Over the winter we'll fix up our box of spare parts...

Hi, just thinking? how about an air sander? you can use wet sanding discs and they shift paint fast! and yep the sexy engine!xx🙃😃😃
I wish I could afford all the fancy tools.
I have a 5 inch sander and a huge bag of 40 grit disc's.
Slowly slowly 🐌

Glad your engine started. Husband wants to send you money. I have a lasting ringng in my ears. Next time, maybe edit out the long beep at such a high frequency. Lol
The Yanmar beep.
It's a charming sound...
Thanks for your offer.
