    In Sweden we use the 308 win for everything, moose, bear whatever! Our bears are a bit smaller maybe then the biggest american, but its a brownbear so.. Our older most used cartridge was 6.5x55, used for every animal. So definitely useful.

    • @DPain82
      @DPain82 Місяць тому

      The swedes basically invented the 6.5. It has taken everything at one point in time. 180gr took an elephant, swedish elks taken with 140-160gr. The 6.5x55 swede is versatile and a much better chambering than the 6.5 needs more.

    • @MrLanepalmer1

      @DPain82 ballistics wise the 6.5x55 and 6.5 Creedmoor are pretty much identical.

      It seems the European hunters focus more on proper shot placement and bullet selection than their American counterparts.
      Here in the US we tend to focus on horsepower for whatever reason.
      In my experience the 6.5 creedmore or 6.5 × 55 swede and the .308 win offer adequate performance for any and all North American game but I do reach for a magnum when the animals get over 700 lbs or may range beyond 400 or 500 yards.

    • @Lazlo81
      @Lazlo81 17 днів тому +1

      In my surroundings we seldom take shots at longer distances than 200 meters. Usually between 50-100, maybe in the mountain areas moose-shots can be longer, but not so common in Sweden for example. But different locations demand different sized bullets etc. My go-to rifle is an old Husqvarna from 1953, I'm born in 1981, in the magical 30-06. But maybe if i hunted/lived in an area where the distance for moose-killshots was 400 or above my choice of go-to rifle would be a 300 wm or something. I've looked into buying one, because usually the big bullet/caliber-rifles are cheap on the used market, because its kind of an overkill for us. But placement is key, if you dont hit the right spot, no cartridge big or small will help u!😅

    308 is cheaper and has been on the gunshop shelves longer. 6.5 creed is the new kid on the block, has less drop out to distance, and is mainly for long-range competition. However, it costs more to shoot.
    It not only depends on where you are going to hunt, it depends on your budget.

    The .308 win is only about 100 fps slower than the .30-06 springfield with bullets up to 170 gr. And with 180 gr bullets the 06 is only about 200 fps faster than .308 win at most.
    Yes that makes a difference but my point is nobody would claim that the .30-06 springfield was underpowered for any North American game, even moose and brown bear yet they turn their nose up at the .308 win for elk and mule deer?
    Imo the .308 win can easily take ANY North American game including moose and brown bear INSIDE 300 yards and with good shot placement and the right bullet selection.
    Elk and mule deer inside 400 to 500 yards.
    However, i prefer to have a bit more oomph just to make it a cleaner kill.
    .308 win up to 700 lbs and 400 yards, .300 win mag for over 700 lbs or beyond 400 yards.
    .30-06 springfield will bridge the gap and do 75% of what the mag will do. Just my 2 cents.
    Of course, with hornery brown bear around, the .338 win mag is even better company. Lol.

    So 308 amazing round always called it a 30-06 short 165-180 kill mostly all North American game dead as a hammer might see some problems as he said in the moose and the bears but 6.5 I have some trust issues with my buddy shot a small white tail with it double lung hard blood trail you’d never be able to track if you were just starting into hunting like he was just little spots of pink bubbles every 30-40 yards but it snowing so it wasn’t that bad if it was i would have had a hell of a time and I don’t like to toot my own horn a lot. But I’m damn good tracker was raised in the woods only one deer Iv never found and it was because the guy hit in the leg and it wasn’t dead iso the 6.5 from what Iv seen is as good as your 243s and 22250s they will kill just don’t expect very many drop shots like say a 308 or even a 7mm o8 absolutely love a 7mmo8 wish the 6.5 the best tho I love the flat shooting 22-28 cal rounds but from my experience I’d rather have a .7mmo8 or 308

    Are you going to trust this Ranger about hunting information when he says you can take a bison with a 6.5 CM?
    Edit: service mistake

      I'm not sure if this is a joke or not, but he isn't/wasn't a seal. Also, I have killed a bull bison with a 6.5 CM at 300 yards.

    Had someone tell me using a .308 for elk was unethical and irresponsible. .300 win mag is the smallest that should be allowed. He was asked how many elk he had harvested? His answer was none. Go figure.
