3 speed box with a very high ratio differential. Effectively a 4 speed without 1st gear. Standard valve gear limited the pacers and the chargers to about 6000rpm. That was their achilles heal as their top speed was not as good as it should have been done conrod straight.
Lack of first gear caused me to burn out the clutch trying to pull a 16' ski boat out of a lake, the farmer had to use his tractor to help me out and I limped home cursing continuously. (1970 4 door 245 cu in 2 bbl, Hemi Orange which is red of course)
3 speed and 4 speed Chargers had the speed on Conrod Straight to match or beat the Holdens and Fords. The issue was the brakes not being able to pull them up at the end of it. Ford and Holden cheated and used non standard brakes that were bigger than those fitted to the vehicles sold to the general public. This was told to me personally by Leo Geoghegan over a cup of tea and a long chat at his dealership in 1990. He would know.
@@coolhand1964 Doug Chivas complained about the first and second cars ahead of him regarding illegal brakes and tyre changes but typically nothing happened. BUT IN MY VIEW HE WAS THE 1972 BATHURST WINNER
Pacers did not have Webers only a big down draft dual throat carbie. Later Chargers fitted with "sixpack" had the triple side draft dual throat webers.
sounds like the oil pump gears about to fall off again, a common falt with chariots, woeful handling, even on top of the mountain the big overweight xy falcon pulls away
I had a pretty rare factory olive green (Chartreuse) with white stripes VG Pacer sedan SOA car a few years ago in need of resto, hope the person i sold it to actually restored it, odd color for a Pacer.

Judging solely by the contours of the glovebox, I think this is a VG. Probably some kind of modified production race as I'm pretty sure those old Chryslers never got 6 speed gearboxes from Factory.
pacer? i do not see a pacer instrument dash, i only see a standard vg speedo face. ive own a standard vg and ive owned a 2 pacer. only 1971 vh pacer sedans had a 4 speed, no factory vg pacer had triple webbers, only a 2barrel carter, or a 4 barrel option. the vg pacer i had handled like that it sat like a rock around corners, minimal body roll using peddars..
@@thomasraftery409 doesn't change why you run no pacer instrument panel, most people watching would never have owned a pacer or drove any to know any of these facts. so your saying vg pacers came out with a 4 speed? when i sold my 2 door pacer, the next guy fitted a 4 speed to it and a 265. doesn't make it genuine factory though. statements on here say the rules allow it, but to me the car is not a pacer unless it was built as one, its just a replica what i stated originally is correct, its not a genuine pacer. so there you go.
this is a STRONG car made in 1969 ,,, , mine was 1971 E37 R/T Charger , but my 1st Mopar was a 1969 VF like this bad boy ,, they handle well at speed .I raced a Datsun 260Z from Rotorua to Putaruru via the Mamaku's one night in 1990 like this and I won ! YEA !

I had a E38 would easily do 6500 rpm
