and the GTR caught it up after being left in the slow pack behind. Thats the memory that lives on. Its hard to imagine how the Seirra driver and the GTR driver were in a league above the slower competitors of this series such that they'd lap the last place drivers.
@Honda Fag The Sierras were carrying lead ballast at this point in time to try and handicap them and make the v8s competitive. It wasn't enough to stop them winning but it made them more dangerous to drive. I don't think the Nissan had ballast as the skylines had always been so-so competitors in previous versions so they got a pass. @@Anax100 LOL, it just went straight to the lead & opened the gap up by over 1/2 a minute within the first few laps. No one had seen a car do this before in Australia. i think we may be returning very slowly back to the golden era of supercar racing in aus with the introduction of Mercedes-Benz - AMG and Nissan back into the series. But to do it properly i think they need to return to using different engine configurations like turbo 6's and 4's
And then the rule makers got salty and slugged the GT-R's with stacks of weight. By this time though, Group A was on its way out due to escalating costs and lack of manufacturer involvement; bogans were crying, upset that a 6 cylinder turbocharged Japanese rocket was beating their heroes (never mind that the Gibson GT-R's were developed to an inch of their lives and were the fastest of their kind on the planet), the Brits were moving to the Super Touring era and touring car racing was going into somewhat of a dark age.
