Absolutely Right Emmett. I did the same thing. I put money down on a truck I don't need because it locked in Autopilot at $7K. I think it'll be apparent in 2 years that Tesla's Autopilot will be worth (and priced) WAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYY more.

Respectfully disagree. While I love the truck, I wouldn't waste $7K hoping they can fix all 1,000+ unforeseen situations before FSD is legally approved. As a former AI researcher, I am used to people making big AI promises like this 20 years ago, that still aren't fixed. (One example: Suppose a car runs a red light. Avoidance means hitting a jogger. May the car legally hit him/her?). The average car is owned 7 years. Buy FSD if you enjoy partial FSD, but I won't risk they fix this stuff before it becomes old.

    Totally agree!
Small correction: it’s 30X steel as in three-o-x. It’s like grade 301 steel or grade 302 steel, but it’s a custom steel mixture so Tesla put an X in the last digit instead of a number.

I would guess it's 304 just because that's so common in nuclear and food industry work (meaning a lot of people are familiar with forming and welding it).

One more reason: Cybertruck is great for after market customizations. Flat surfaces and thick (3mm) structural s/s steel make it like a blank canvas for easy add-ons like colour, body mods, lighting,... etc.

You know how the Robotaxis will come to you? How about sending the truck to go get materials while you keep working? How about a fleet of Roboplows that do routes while you're warm in bed? What if solid-state batteries triple the range and can be recharged as fast as you can fill a tank (and cost 1/2 as much and work to -20C) hit the BEV market by the time the Cybertruck is available? I initially thought it was Fugly - it literally caught my breath as it was revealed, but if they make a UK-roads-size-appropriate version, I may well get one, to replace my 2014 Renault Zoe - I shit you not.

You are absolutely right. I ordered a dual motor one with self-drive, and I keep wondering if I should change the order to the 3-motor. The value difference is way more than the 20k, but it's way beyond my budget. Anyways, regarding aesthetics, when you look at trucks of other brands, some 70% to 90% of the visual features you see are there to tease your eyes. And this is true in spite of them being disappointments relative to concept models. Look at any car out there and you see all kinds of lines and curves and flares and forms and colors and chromes, all being eye candy. The Cybertruck, by contrast, is less than 10% eye-candy, if you consider the lights being connected by a LED strip; but for the most part, any features you see go by the rule of form follows function. This truck embodies "aesthetic honesty".

@C W Are there still rainforests in South America, i thought we destroyed them all cuz you know most of us humans are evil money minded idiots, well anyways each day football field size of rainforests are being destroyed , maybe you should do more to stop the deforestation around the globe, oh and you think lithium is more toxic than carbon effluents gases? Atleast batteries are getting more efficient and advance by the day but ICE engines cant get that efficient, atleast they havent in past 100+ yrs. And if you are worried about the battery production why dont you say something about mobile phones, laptops, your ICE engine car batteries, those are batteries aswell. Lithium isnt as abundant as carbon and it can be easily dumped safely or recycled, but carbon if once in air will definitely raise the global temperatures. Besides all other car manufacturers are moving towards electric cars, its not only tesla. And why am i explaining this anyways, tankers filled with crude oil are making our oceans inhabitable and toxic and oceans are covering 74% of earth's surface, destroy that and we are doomed, not only south Americans but all of us . And its easier to store and control solids like lithium than carbon di oxide or methane.

I had to sleep on the Cybertruck for a day, but as I learned about its functionality and lower cost of manufacturing, it all made sense on why he made it this way. Trucks are performance and functionality vehicles. They aren't there to win beauty contests. If the truck just does better on a performance and durability metric. Then it's just a better truck. Looks be damned. But because it's so different it's going to turn a lot of heads. And I want that truck!

@@kxyoto8541 I can't have any issues with you there. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Look at the F-117. I think that is a pretty awesome looking plane. I think the Cybertruck will have some advantages in specific areas for it being a truck. Its durability should definitely be intriguing. And having that back cover will help its aerodynamic coefficient. I think this truck works well for folks that don't really haul all that much but commute to work in them. And it works in small range heavy towing areas. Even taking a boat to a nearby lake. Probably not so much in the heavy towing over long distances. Gas trucks are still going to win out over convenience in that factor. I'm glad this is another option for consumers. We all win with more options.

Very cool. I can't wait to learn more about the frunk, side tool bins, and back storage area. So much great potential on this awesome beast of a truck. One other thing I have been curious about is the truck bed. It's 6.5 ft long but it looks like the tail gate can almost be an extension of the truck bed. Possibly making it 8 feet long which would be great for sheets of plywood. The tail gate has tie down slots on it. That would be awesome if they designed it do so. I have so many people saying to me "It can't even carry sheets of plywood". I hope its at least 4 foot wide. It looks to be that wide to me but would be great to get actual measurement.

Bottom line, they need to get the charging technology, to where it takes 5 to 10 minutes to fully charge.. And it needs to be available with normal outlets. This is the only thing stopping most people, including myself. Now, since it's big enough, maybe they will add in some sort of emergency motor that burns gas to recharge the battery. If they do that, I would be in for sure.

My only ( only one) negative thought was the danger that someone may interpret a company using this truck as being 'style over substance' - particularly by a company doing ' no nonsense' practical work like plumbing. Basically 85% of our cars over here are small hatchbacks, smaller than model 3/Y. The market for pick-up trucks is literally non-existent. Instead contractors are driving little closed vans. After Roadster, S, X, 3, Y, Cybertruck, Semi and Roadster 2.0 we still have not seen a Tesla model that really caters to our most usual needs.

And it will be interesting to see what the aftermarkets will be coming out with maybe like lumber/sport racks, slide in campers , camper / utility shells and maybe slide out storage containers .
But seeing on line long trip towing test of electric vehicles isn’t too impressive.
Towing cuts the mileage down dramatically so for any lengthy trips you may need to allow much more travel time to get there and for the extra charge stations.

I think the towing capacity is moot since you can't use a gooeneck trailer. Plus it's not modular like the typical pickup. It's more closely related to a large SUV than a Pickup. It's not really useful as a pickup, but is really cool for city folk and doing odd jobs.

  • @gpaje
    @gpaje 4 роки тому

Main issue is towing range. The Model X was tested with a 4,500 lbs trailer (it's tow limit) and only had a 120 mile range because of it. This needs to improve for the Cybertruck to be taken seriously among truck owners who actually use their vehicles to tow boats, campers, horses, etc. Because 120 mile range and 45 minute charges are not going to be good enough. Unless Telsa comes out with a battery breakthrough, not sure how they are going to solve this. They can only shove so many batteries in there.

He spends $100-200 dollars a week on gas. Plus he has to bring an air compressor and a generator to the job site (where they can and do get stolen).
