- Leander and a Few Hours at Carlisle Station
30 & 31 July 23
On Sunday 30th July, Jubilee "Leander" and attendant diesel took the empty stock from the previous day's Aberdonian railtour from Edinburgh back to Carnforth. It stopped in the citadel for a crew change.
On the following afternoon I spent a few hours at the Citadel to observe the passing scene, including the arrival and departure of the New Measurement Train on its monthly visit.
Any observations are my own and not intended to show any authority and may show my misunderstanding.

Hi Leslie 👍 love the 66 with just one wagon. Prototype for any size model railway. Enjoyable as always thanks for sharing
Keep safe and well my dear friend
Andy
Thanks Andy. I think these workings do show a small load is definitely prototypical for model railways
Thanks Leslie for sharing great video especially the start . Regards Tom
Glad you enjoyed it
Another great video Les some great captures there matey Leander sounded awesome
loved it thanks for sharing stay safe a t b Syd 👍
Thanks
45690 looked and sounded amazing Leslie nicely filmed take care.
Thanks! They seem to have better control of the steam locos when they are empty too - not trying to show off lol
Awesome video les from Alan in Lowestoft buddy 👍 😊
Glad you enjoyed it
What a contrast between the condition of the paintwork on the 2 power units on the test train!! It was strange for me to see a Jubilee in black, when I spent my youth at the lineside they were all finished in green.
I get the feeling Colas prefer to make sure their locos work reliably than how they look! As for the Jubilee, I agree, Black is an odd choice unless there was an occasion when they did appear in Black. Green for me - unless in LMS livery when Crimson (or maybe wartime black)
Thanks for recognising name plates,
My pleasure
Skilfully captured as always.
Thanks Andy

Thanks
Interesting @ 2.12 to see the relief fireman bring his own shovel.
I hadn't noticed it when they were waiting on the platform - looks pretty clean too!
Great video today, Leslie! A classic steamer and lots of TPEs; although, I do wonder on the fure of TPE after the government came down on them recently. That was also quite a busy shot about halfway in. We also got a couple catches of the COLA's banana. Nice work!
Thanks Anthony. TransPennine are supposedly awaiting a buyer from the government Operator of last resort. In the current situation it'll be sold off at a loss or more likely stay with the OLR.
45690 Leander was operating on the A1 Steam Tours Aberdonian due to Tornado not being ready yet from Its Refurbishment
So I understand. Thanks fo rwatching
The HST power car reminds me of the last days of the Westerns when they were in a terrible state, Not a good advert for the public. Nice beginning on this video.
Thanks! I suspect Colas's priority is that the locos run than how they look
Leander and 47804
Indeed
Hi Les can you tell me why 57308 has been in the siding since I visited Citadel in October 21?
57308 is one of the standby locos DRS have been providing along the WCML. It hasn't been permanent, 57307 occasionally has taken on the role at Carlisle. They do move now and then for refueling , charging batteries and rescuing trains now and then.
@@LeslieGilpinRailways Many thanks, love the videos
Why is it that just about every loco operated by Colas appears grubby/filthy/uncared for (43277 being the exception just out of the paint works)? Compare and contrast with DB, DRS, Freightliner, GBRf, Rail Ops Group etc.
That is a good question. 56051is very clean too, recently ex works.
@@LeslieGilpinRailways 👍🏻 I so look forward to your videos, and I’m somewhat envious of the time that you can spend on Carlisle station.
Lead in engine "43290" on the Measuremnts Train has to be the worst looking loco Ive seen on BR trains.needs a good clean and a paint job.
Definitely Colas need to get their 43s in the paint shop
