But on an alternate causality, he experiences the doctor falls and instead regenerates full of hate and anger which keeps him as an evil master.
My personal headcanon is that "doctor, I let you go" is the final scene of the whole show. Especially, as I am ever more convinced that I was always simply a Moffat fan, not a Doctor Who fan
martha also only had one series (she just shows up as a guest star in s4 a few times) ! but i guess to be fair people also tend to forget her ... lol. i love them both and i would have loved more than one season for both of them. but i would say that bill IS mostly defined by things that happen TO her rather than what she does.
its a shame capaldi couldn't convince them to make an episode where the doctor comes back to see susan in this season, i think that'd have been awesome.
Looking forward to your Twice Upon a Time review. I personally loved it as Capaldis final with him having an adventure with the first doctor considering he was going to be the last male doctor with Jodie taking over.. even though i know quite a few complained about the portrayal of the first doctor feeling disrespectful towards Hartnell with jokes about him acting "old fashioned" but personally I just think of the first doctor as like a young child that will sometimes say inappropriate things lol and the cameo of Clara was a nice touch so overall I loved it as a final + regeneration story.
I feel like Bill is pretty much entirely carried by Pearl Mackie's performance. I feel like she's only really memorable because she comes across as so likable.
Capaldi's last season was where the rot really set in with Bill Potts telling everyone she was a scissor sister every other episode to Capaldis 'women should rule the world' speech in The Doctor Falls
David Tennant and Matt Smith were excellent choices to play versions of the Doctor as an ancient, damaged being, cosplaying as far younger than they are under the weight of the horrendous trauma they had just experienced during the Time War. Refusing to acknowledge what had happened and what they had done, in place of a veneer of being silly and fun, and occasionally letting the mask slip to reveal someone very dark and broken deep down. Peter Capaldi is the character finally acting their age and, at last, coming somewhat to terms with all of that. He plays the character incredibly, but more importantly, he was the right actor to portray the character at this point in their development. He manages to blend elements of every previous Doctor into his performance, to maintain cohesion and continuity, whilst still making his own portrayal unlike any other. THE BEST to ever do it.
I remember when the Capaldi era aired, and I thought it was amazing, and I couldn't believe that so many fans tuned out during those 3 amazing years. It's so great to see the shift in perspective that's happened since then and how many people have come to around to the greatness that was on display. Shame that it took the complete drivel of the Chibnall era to make people realize how good Capaldi's run was but at least it's getting more of the credit that it's due.
That was a good review of Series 10, and I will say it is the weakest series out of the Moffat era. I will say the Moffat era is my favorite era out of Doctor Who because it tried something new and fresh and saying goodbye to an era that has been with me from the 7th Grade all the way to my life as a grown up is really hard. Peter Capaldi was a really great Doctor and to be honest it really did feel the end of Doctor Who as a whole.
I've always loved Capaldi's run. During Smith's era I was the type to wear a fez and bowie to school, and thought he would always be my favorite. By "Listen" Capaldi claimed that title and won't let it go, only getting better with his tenure. I did 'enjoy' the Whittaker era in the sense that it was Doctor Who being released (a comedic take, I do have some things I like about her run) and I loved and look forward to Gatwa's first and upcoming seasons, but in this moment to me nothing will compare to series 8 9 and 10 as a whole.
Series 10 is kind of the reverse of series 14. Series 10 is kind of the reverse of Series 14. It really shows how a good opening episode and a good finale can make a season. If you take episode 2 to 6 from series 14, you would have a great season.
Capaldi is my favourite Doctor. After his first series my favourite was still Eccleston (counting the classic Doctors as well.) But I felt he had potential to be my favourite. After his second series Capaldi and Eccleston were tied in my mind. But somewhere during series 10 he became my favourite Doctor, and has stayed so. Although there’s something to like about each of them
It was a satisfying conclusion to his run, Capaldi always delivered even during episodes I can't stand. But to me, series 9 is always going to be the best simply cause besides the Sandman episode. The episodes ranges from very good to the best episode Doctor Who is ever going to have and no other episode will ever be able to top it. Series 10 just has too many episodes in which I can easily skip large chunks. Though there is no denying that the last 3 went out on top which I'm thankful for, it would have been sad if the skippable episodes was among the last. The Doctor is always going to continue to be a thing in some form even if the show manages to get cancelled again. If someone wants an endpoint I would say this is a good place to end it. But if they want a bit more resolution and have a happy ending. You only need to watch 12 episodes from 13th's run to get the main gist. Ending it with the 60th anniversary specials seeing as you could say that is how "our doctors" story concluded.
@@DrWhoFanJ What can I say, certain episodes don't speak to me. That being said for maybe 90% of the first 10 series. I can find individual scenes or stretch of 10 minutes in the episode that is fantastic. And there are certain two parters. Where I will think its great. But not feel inclined to rewatch much of the first part. Like the flesh episode, part 1 is good and needed. Though upon a rewatch I'll fast forward most of it cause its so much mystery that I already know the answer too. Not that its the case all the time, but for some two parters once I have the answers I more enjoy the character focused moments than watching the mystery. Then you have the sandman or empress of mars episodes. Where I couldn't care less. have a huge amount of respect for Mark Gatiss. He's done two episodes which I quite enjoy and even in other episodes I think are bad will have great moments in them. But for some reason I've realized upon rewatches that most his episodes are the ones I find to be among the weakest. I wish I knew why, because if he manages to have great moments in them. And he's proven that he can make good episodes with Victory and Sherwood. But his lows are very low.

10 was my favorite run of the show. I enjoy the "lower" stakes of it. Not every episode is great, but we still have a great doctor and a cool companion and the best arc of the whole franchise being the redemption arc of missy. If I just wanna watch a season doctor who over a weekend. I would allways choose 10.

Whilst Nardole is undoubtedly entertaining, he must have the least development of ANY companion of the modern era: we learn next to nothing about him, next to nothing about his background, and there are next to no changes in him by the end of the season.

I feel so vindicated in my love for the Capaldi era because so many people dunked on it and I loved it through and through. It took me a bit of time to warm to it but series 8-10 are still my faves along with series 4 and 1
Series 10 from the Capaldi Era is not Overrated it is Underrated from Capaldi Era and Series 10 is one my favourite Series from Capaldi Era I think 🤔The Tennant Era is more overrated than The Capaldi Era
Series 10 can't be political, Doctor who only got political when they regenerated to doctor into a woman which is entirely coincidental (this comment brought to you by sarcasm)
Someone correct me if I’m wrong: has it ever been said in the show that Saxon regenerates into Missy? My personal head canon since Series 10 has been that Missy is the end of the character and Master’s like Sacha Dhawan come between Saxon and Missy. I imagine Big Finish might have done something but has it been said in the show?
Yes, it has been confirmed that John Simm regenerates into Missy. The confirmation is in _The Doctor Falls._ And Sacha Dhawan is explicitly post-Missy.
25:54-26:09 While I do kind of agree on that with the Chibnall era, I personally definitely see RTD2 as bit more of a return to form. Yes it’s not been absolutely perfect so far and definitely didn’t get off the to best start with The Star Beast, plus I get that it’s heavily queer undertones are bit much for straight fans like you, but in my eyes it’s definitely a step up from Chibnall and has made more proud to be a fan of the show again rather than a bit embarrassed as I kind of was beforehand, especially round the time of Series 11 (I know this was completely off topic from what the video’s actually about btw, but I just had to get it out there)
It’s funny, I remember thinking during my rewatch that this series (and The Doctor Falls in particular) just felt like the end of the show, and you crystallised why in this video. It’s not really so much to do with the Chibnall era, either, or specifically me not being a fan of it (although I’m not). More that the Davies and Moffat eras just seemed to dovetail nicely. There were differences, sure, and the two certainly write differently, but there were similar themes and characters, and that all culminated in this series. Nothing that has come after this has felt like it’s the same show, not even Davies Mark II. The character remains, some other characters and villains return, it’s like the furniture’s the same, but you’ve moved house. I felt very meh towards Series 10 when looking back at it initially because of the huge gulf in quality you cover, but I had managed to skew negative in my view of it. I forgot great episodes like Oxygen and Extremis (I had judged the Monks trilogy by the way it ended), and the two part finale. It doesn’t match up to the two previous Capaldi seasons, but it’s a worthy ending for this era of the show nonetheless.
@@mayotango1317 okay great. Good for the classic era. Which I was definitively not talking about. But go you, I guess you got the classic era points? Or something?
Good thoughts. I enjoyed the series. I do like Bill and what they did throughout the series was great. I say for me, it may be my second favorite of his era. I loved watching it, Capaldi is my Doctor as well. What a journey it has been
I like Peter Capaldi as the Doctor but David Tennant will take a lot of beating for me. I really like his more human and emotionally vulnerable approach. Plus the fact that David Tennant has returned to do Big Finish and for multiple anniversaries on TV also helps to place him above Peter Capaldi, who hasn't done either yet.
Series 10 really is better than the sum of its part. The actual stories were pretty mid. But the characters and their dynamics with each other can make up for some of the story writing.
And yet the wilderness years ended up being the best for the show. Instead of fading into obscurity, the show took a breather, and exploded back onto our screens with a vengeance. 1989 suffered so 2005 could thrive
I love Capaldi & this season too. Funny you should mention that Missy/Master should have been rested after this season or the next Master should have been a previous incarnation. In my head cannon I see the Master reincarnations in order being John Saxon, then the Spy Master, then Missy. Otherwise Missy's redemption arc is wasted & makes no sense. Also, at the end of his incarnation John Saxon Master is spitefully homicidal , when we meet Spy Master he's just as spiteful against the Doctor but over time wants to Be the Doctor by the end (stopping to demolish Gallifrey, again), then when we enter the time of the Missy incarnation, the undercurrent of everything she does is that she wants her friend back, initially trying to corrupt him to join her & later in the vault, wanting to earn his trust. I disagree about Bill, I thought the character was very strong & held her own while sharing the narrative with both Nardol & Missy
I was tuning out during season 9, the Doctor was always looking down on ALL humans (not just the military) Tried to pick up in season 10, but never liked Bill
For me series 10 was/is fab... Bill was great and yes, LGBT folks sometimes talk about their sexuality... cause it's often 'an issue' in society ... heterosexual folks don't drop it into conversation cause they don't need to..
I'll stick up for this one. It seemed like Capaldi's Doctor was finally being written in a fully rounded way and the new home base as a lecturer setup and companion worked well. Most of the stories are disposable though. Smile and Oxygen are harmless if not heather igniting but things really shine with the trilogy starting with Extremis and the Mondasian two part ender. The former suffered for the unnecessary "wuv will save the day" conclusion, but if you mentally clip out a few minutes you can just pretend the Doctor risked his brain and fixed it (Bill had already proved her worth so it wouldn't diminish her). This is a tedious tendency in the modern era - for the sake of one more final "oh no it hasn't worked" we have to get wuvvy from nowhere. The latter can keep its "wuv" salvation of Bill because even though it came cold out of almost nowhere the character deserved it. The only real problem here is that it should have ended in a regen as intended, but Chibnall didn't have an idea in his head for a Christmas episode so Moffat had to give it just one more final hard squeeze out. Twice wasn't half bad actually - suitably lightweight, yet poignant, a bit of a circling back and the Brig's predecessor, but some totally unneeded modern supercilious poking at a few remarks by One, which were hardly defining. And it proved that Chibnall's "no more to be done with Xmas" attitude was a demonstration of the dullness of his imagination. He didn't do anything interesting with New Year either... PS Regarding Xmas stories my fingers and laptop can't command the attention of the new era old boys' club but I'll give some thoughts anyway. A Xmas episode doesn't have to be deeply themed, merely set at that time and reflect the spirit of the season (which Who generally does anyway). But I'd pitch 1) A mythical/historical story about Wenceslas turning out to be not as good as expected, involving a sinister alien clockwork duplicate of him and the solution based around the grand clock in Prague; 2) a whip around some favourite situations, friends and foes whimsically scifi themed around the 12 days; as a trap/puzzle set by ?. With the resolution being a time travel trick based on the little known fact that the 12 days actually begin on Christmas day. PPS I suppose it might be interesting to point out that what is known in the West as the Carol of the Bells (used as a Ruby theme) was originally a non-religious Ukrainian festive song about a little bird heralding prosperity and peace after a year of diligent toil. While the show seems happy to wade into culture "wars" it wisely doesn't specifically comment on actual current conflicts. But I doubt that tune was chosen at random (Gold would know the derivation even if Davies doesn't). The original vocal version is very beautiful and worth a place on your Christmas playlist.
Honestly, I'm tired of rating doctor who. "Who was the worst Doctor?" "Who was the worst companion?" "Who was the worst show runner?" "What was the worst episode?" "What was the worst series?" "What was the worst line?" Guys... If you don't like this show, then just say that. Don't claim to be a fan and then openly dislike most of the show.
Whilst i see this series aa a bonus year ....Series 11 was a needed change ....by 2017 whilst i loved moff era capaldis was jarring year to year as friends of mine tapped out from seeing it....the whittaker chibnall era i felt i could clean slate go all in ....Series 11 made me appreciate series 10 a lot more but too it was a refreshing new take and i dare aay Whittakers debut year needs to be re-evalued she literally has 9 bangers in a row TWWFTE- ITYA is the best run of episodes since Smiths era imo... And i loved that Chibnall went full on Hartnell meeta modern era vibe ....so nostalgic 2017-19 was transgressive and nedded for the show anf all our lives too
Series 9 was the last good doctor who series... Bill made the show unbearable and they were blatantly pushing an agenda. The other series at least made you think about the message they were trying to convey.
The hell you mean bill was pushing an agenda? Rose and Mickey's relationship was I think like on the same level as shown as Bill and Heather's, how is the first two not pushing an agenda but the third was?
Harsh to say Bill is the most forgettable companion....I mean Martha was pretty awful!! As a character and as an actor.....example, the awful acting of the strained face and putting the hand out to her mother when she has the austahagan key and gets teleported. U just look and think "that can't have been the best take surely"
I do admittedly like how she left. She did grow as a character and I did like seeing her in later episodes. She worked better as a recurring side character, not as THE companion
I need to rewatch this series again. Around this time I dipped out of Doctor who. After Day of the Doctor I was disappointed by it. And season 7 being split in half annoyed me, as it broke from tradition, I also didn’t really like Clara all that much. I watched s8 as it came out and liked many elements of it. But grew tiered of Clara being another mystery box. And the hybrid story I have come to really appreciate now but if Clara wasn’t the impossible girl before it I would have liked it much more. Her ensign too annoyed me. Peter as the Doctor has surpassed Matt now I’m older but at the time I didn’t like his grumpy coldness, again as I grew up with 8,9,10. I was in my mid teens and was all angsty liking GoT more. I began to rewatch s8 and 9 and liked them much more. I haven’t watched s10 since it came out. Jesus that was years ago scary. I think I blamed Peter when actually it was Moffat all along I didn’t like. Peter is actually the best part of this era, I defo prefer his interactions with Clara more than 9. Edit I have since watched classic who and really like that 10 feels like a classic who Doctor.

@@nathanielfarkas4431 yeah, that's what I think
My personal headcanon is that "doctor, I let you go" is the final scene of the whole show. Especially, as I am ever more convinced that I was always simply a Moffat fan, not a Doctor Who fan
@@yavoth5850 Said no-one with a brain ever.
martha also only had one series (she just shows up as a guest star in s4 a few times) ! but i guess to be fair people also tend to forget her ... lol. i love them both and i would have loved more than one season for both of them. but i would say that bill IS mostly defined by things that happen TO her rather than what she does.
its a shame capaldi couldn't convince them to make an episode where the doctor comes back to see susan in this season, i think that'd have been awesome.
Handles.... Is the most forgotten companion. You forgot about him
Rewatched recently and definitely my favourite Capaldi series.
Series 10 always has a special place in my heart due to it being my first
I feel like Bill is pretty much entirely carried by Pearl Mackie's performance.
The Chris Chibnall era was not "drivel". No-one can "realize" anything because there is no such word.
Ironically (but fondly), the inconsistent quality of episodes also works as a great representation of Doctor Who as a whole.
After his first series my favourite was still Eccleston (counting the classic Doctors as well.)
But I felt he had potential to be my favourite.
Nothing should ever be skipped.
@ You seem to be obsessed with saying things that are false and/or idiotic, misspelling simple words, and calling episodes by the wrong names. Stop all of it.
@@DrWhoFanJ You are mad because I didn't want to bother with writing out the full names of the episodes?
How can my opinion regarding how I feel about certain episodes be false? I didn't declare it as a objective factual statement that everyone who watches Doctor Who all agree with. I stated my feelings on them.
Idiotic is entirely different and combined with misspelling that is more on point. I'm sorry that you got offended by me making writing errors its my fourth language. I don't have grammarly on my phone. As far as being idiotic is concerned. You try and be fully coherent when you are hooked up to a morphine drip using UA-cam to keep yourself occupied until the worst is over.
Is this just the end of the reviews? Or ending Doctor Who content?
I dont think any of the episodes in this series is bad, eaters of light is very forgetable, but is actually still a good episode imo, thin ice is great to me, and empress of mars, whilst weak is still okay
Wow, how far we've come on this Doctor Who review journey. Can't wait for your final review Harbo. I've been watching for four years now and it's been a wonderful journey. So happy to support you. 🫡
I hope this isn't the end of your doctor who content. I hardly ever comment on UA-cam but I've been watching you for ages now and I love your videos but honestly, I understand if you want to move on. Doctor Who isn't what it used to be. Hopefully one day it can return to its former glory.
Whilst Nardole is undoubtedly entertaining, he must have the least development of ANY companion of the modern era: we learn next to nothing about him, next to nothing about his background, and there are next to no changes in him by the end of the season.

I never watched the end of the Capaldi era. My Indonesian wife liked him so much and then she died. I can't bring myself to watch it. I would be too sad.
I feel so vindicated in my love for the Capaldi era because so many people dunked on it and I loved it through and through. It took me a bit of time to warm to it but series 8-10 are still my faves along with series 4 and 1
Wait is Harbo done with UA-cam or just episode/series reviews after the Twice Upon a Time video?
Series 10 from the Capaldi Era is not Overrated it is Underrated from Capaldi Era and Series 10 is one my favourite Series from Capaldi Era I think 🤔The Tennant Era is more overrated than The Capaldi Era
Series 10 can't be political, Doctor who only got political when they regenerated to doctor into a woman which is entirely coincidental (this comment brought to you by sarcasm)
Handles, is the most forgotten companion 😢
Someone correct me if I’m wrong: has it ever been said in the show that Saxon regenerates into Missy? My personal head canon since Series 10 has been that Missy is the end of the character and Master’s like Sacha Dhawan come between Saxon and Missy. I imagine Big Finish might have done something but has it been said in the show?
i think it's ambiguous enough that you can see it either way but dhawan was intended to be post-missy
Yes, it has been confirmed that John Simm regenerates into Missy. The confirmation is in _The Doctor Falls._
And Sacha Dhawan is explicitly post-Missy.
25:54-26:09 While I do kind of agree on that with the Chibnall era, I personally definitely see RTD2 as bit more of a return to form. Yes it’s not been absolutely perfect so far and definitely didn’t get off the to best start with The Star Beast, plus I get that it’s heavily queer undertones are bit much for straight fans like you, but in my eyes it’s definitely a step up from Chibnall and has made more proud to be a fan of the show again rather than a bit embarrassed as I kind of was beforehand, especially round the time of Series 11
(I know this was completely off topic from what the video’s actually about btw, but I just had to get it out there)
I actually preferred Series 10 over 9.
Tennant and Smith have clear best seasons (in my opinion) but any of Capaldi’s 3 seasons are respectable choices as his “best.”
Please, that happen a lot in the classic era.
Stop talking utter gibberish.
@@DrWhoFanJ great point, well made. 🤦

Good thoughts. I enjoyed the series. I do like Bill and what they did throughout the series was great. I say for me, it may be my second favorite of his era. I loved watching it, Capaldi is my Doctor as well. What a journey it has been
Am I the only one who had an extreme uncanny feeling while watching the Series?
26:00 Please, seven years is the Tom Baker era.
he said it has been 7 years since this series, since it came out in 2017.
The doctor dead! He said he always hated you.
Can someone explain why the series 10 soundtrack was never released
Series 10 really is better than the sum of its part. The actual stories were pretty mid. But the characters and their dynamics with each other can make up for some of the story writing.
Doctor who went from BBC 1, BBC 2, ITV, E4
Please review all the sarah jane episodes now you've finished with doctor who.
I would like for DW to never end & am looking forward to S15 but Icl this series really does serve as a good stopping point.
I agree with Series 10 being a good stopping point.
And yet the wilderness years ended up being the best for the show. Instead of fading into obscurity, the show took a breather, and exploded back onto our screens with a vengeance.
1989 suffered so 2005 could thrive
@mattevans4377 I don't disagree. Without those years we don't have NuWho.
Sacha is explicitly post-Missy.
14th Doctor. Trezalore happened
Series ten is brilliant!
I was tuning out during season 9, the Doctor was always looking down on ALL humans (not just the military)
Tried to pick up in season 10, but never liked Bill
Bill wasn’t in Season 10.
I don’t really resonate with young ‘boyfriend’ Doctors. I really wish they’d cast an older person again.
It is one of the best series of the show XD WAY BETTER thann 9 and 8
Well yes but it’s still better than any of the Chibnall series

Wow this title. I didn't like the companion this is when I stopped watching. There's enough all the big finish to keep me a fan of doctor who though.
Series 9 was the last good doctor who series... Bill made the show unbearable and they were blatantly pushing an agenda. The other series at least made you think about the message they were trying to convey.
Please, the agenda exist in the RTD era.
The hell you mean bill was pushing an agenda? Rose and Mickey's relationship was I think like on the same level as shown as Bill and Heather's, how is the first two not pushing an agenda but the third was?
Overrated??? It's underrated, what a shit of clickbait.
Martha was amazing
Edit
I have since watched classic who and really like that 10 feels like a classic who Doctor.
