This would work for power or for *ONE* USB data connection, but as soon as you connect a second one... I see bad things happening. I would not recommend this tutorial to anyone, honestly. If you just connect the data pins to ONE port instead of all of them, that would not be so bad. That would give realistic expectations and prevent crosstalk.

Lol, its does not work. Because it has all ports connected in parallel. If you open a usb hub, there will be an IC to control and divide usb ports thus converting into 2 or 4 ports. If there is no IC, then all will be connected to the same power, data lines of different devices. In this video, he has used only 1 device at a time rather than 2 to 3 devices.
