I’ve made a few painting mistakes along my way as I was trying to identify my aesthetic. I painted a wall Whataburger orange, and I painted a wall black, the orange was a huge mistake, but the black was epic. We were having wall to wall, floor to ceiling book cases built in. The wall that they were going to be built in front of was pretty heavily textured, and thinking how awesome it would be to have a black background for books and accessories I painted away, and not long after a friend was visiting and asked if we had put slate on the wall, so I knew then that I had achieved exactly what I wanted to. A few months ago I watched a video on YT of a woman who had painted her bedroom black and she decorated her walls with an odd assortment of wooden picture frames. It was a really beautiful room.

I love backwards books. They are decor, just like any other kind of decor; photos, vases. There is also a need and a reason for non backwards books. Decorating is a personal thing that should reflect the person or people living there. For those who don’t understand why we have coffee table books, decorative plates, vases etc. ( they think “ what purpose do they have “) maybe just don’t appreciate beauty.

We’ve moved a lot and we’ve also accumulated a lot of books, so when we put our house up for sale, I group the books firstly by colour of the binder (take the covers off), and then stack them backwards. My husband always tells me I’m weird and that no one in the world does it! LOL little does he know. Even my realtors make fun of me but I don’t care. They look better and less messy and importantly, the person doesn’t get caught up on reading the titles. So no judgment either.

I agree with the fact that books can be overwhelming and when you have so many shelves to fill why not turn books into non obtrusive art. You dont need to read the name of the book to appreciate the impact and texture that paper and variations of its tonality can give.
    You do You.

Thank you, Rebecca! It's really difficult to accessorize bookshelves combining books and other objects of interest. In my bookshelf/display cases, among the objects I display, the books are carefully edited to a specific color palette. No red, purple, orange that won’t keep the shelves calming and earthy. I personally really dislike it when people cover books in plain paper. or turning the spines around if you don't read them why bother to have them in your décor? It seems very shallow to me and a cheap unattractive filler. Where is the personality of the homeowner, I love a lot of what you do but there is little personality in the accessories, sterile and a bit boring. I love the look of an old English library, rich wood tones, leather bound books, classic, cozy and timeless. More color nothing crazy but not sterile communist stark looks either. A real home should reflect and reveal the homeowners personality, not look like a sterile hotel lobby. Just my opinion.

I would love to see the different ways that you light up bookcases and built-ins after they're built. I've seen you light up so many of them, but I don't know what you're using. Thanks, Paula

1-thank you! This is so helpful. The where. The how. And the WHY!
2-another designer, I think it was Thom Filicia, said the reason he turned books around on his show was that he did not have ‘clearance’ or whatever they needed to show trademarked or copyrighted products on their TV show
3-please, please, please show various styling options for bar carts that are NOT being used as bar carts.
They are mobile, available at all price points, great size for homes and apartments, and - with your styling magic - useful indoors and outdoors (pool toys and towels). I see them in high-end retailers, in consignment shops, and mass merchandisers. There have got to be ways to use them in home offices, craft & sewing rooms, garages, laundry rooms, possibly in a bedroom that’s temporarily pressed into service for guests, bathrooms, etc., etc., etc.,
If anyone can break down how, exactly how, to make this work AND look good, it’s Rebecca!

Rebecca. I’m sure this was filmed before Saturday night. I’ve been thinking about you. Did you have a generator? I just keep thinking about all your beautiful mature trees, and praying they are alright. We live East of you, about 30 miles away. I pray you are alright. 🙏🏻

Rebecca, Love each and every Video. Your black bold wall with the gold book cases with glass shelves. The decor is even but not alike. It's Eye Candy. Thank You for sharing with us ❣️Nancy

I need help with a built in wine rack in my den. I don’t drink enough wine to fill it (there is currently 1 bottle in one of the 10 cubbies). We have a couple of cigar boxes and a couple autographed golf balls. I hate this thing! HELP PLEASE!

Thanks for sharing your ideas and decorating insights. I’m painting a wall black and installing twin gold etageres. I would not have decorated them with symmetry without your advice.

You are soooo talented! I’m very picky, you check all the boxes, balance, beauty and elegance. Thank you so much, you give me so much inspiration.
