Downsizing to be more minimal car camping | kitchen & utility storage solution

- When designing a no build car camper conversion for 2 people in my Dodge Grand Caravan, I realized quickly I would need to downsize my excessive storage.
In this video you'll see my pared down kitchen box and my pared down garage/utility storage. I think I managed to hone in on the basics and most used items, and have left the rest for longer extended roadtrips or camping excursions where I may need a little more extras. I'm proud of how much I accomplished in compiling all my car camping needs for my future advantures with my daughter when I'm using my 2 person setup! See everything we're bringing (plus my coffee box of course!!)
Did I leave anything super important out? What would you add to yours that I didnt?? Let me know in the comments!
Thanks for watching!

Heather, it's so great that your wonderful, precious daughter can go camping with you now! I really appreciate you for doing this video, since I am in the process of downsizing my minivan camper. Your video just gave me more motivation and inspiration!
Thank you! I'm so glad this was helpful for you!!
Wow, Heather, you are really good at downsizing and organizing for such a small area. I don't think most of us realize how important getting enough sleep is for our health and well-being. If I don't get enough sleep, I normally get a headache, and then I'm as grumpy as a bear. Lol. Remember, in this heat, it will zap your energy, and when you're having health issues, even more.
You are so right about the impact sleep has. I read somewhere that if the average person gets less than 5 hours in a night, it's the same level of impairment as being drunk. I don't know if that's accurate or not, but this condition has definitely made me realize how crucial it really is to be able to function! 💚
Dang girl, you scaled back a lot. As a maximalist myself, that is not always easy to do. I am impressed! I look forward to all your videos Heather.
Thank you, I'm so proud of myself! I will probably still bring everyyyyyything when I get a chance to do longer solo trips again, but it feels so good to be able to eliminate & consolidate things so much! Who knows, I may find that I don't actually need some things at all!!
Awesome job Heather. It’s always good to pare down when possible, but still keep the necessary stuff handy and neatly stored away. I find that minimizing is good for my mental state, so I don’t get overwhelmed with too much stuff. I think that you have everything you need to have a fabulous time with your daughter. The heat and humidity have been brutal here too, but we’ve been having short little bursts of rain the last couple of days that kinda cools things off. I won’t complain about the rain that’s brief and refreshing. Take it easy girlie, you need to get rest to feel better. I’ve definitely decided that afternoon naps are a big help to me. Even if I don’t sleep, my body is resting for an hour or two. Just like minimizing your van, minimizing your life as much as possible is helpful. I can’t wait to see what your next advanture will be. 💙🩵💚
The brief rains really do help cool things off a bit each day & you're right about how needed they are. Hoping for a break in the temps soon - I'm realizing more and more how much of a trigger the heat is for my symptoms now 😕
You took necessity being the mother of invention to a new level! As you pointed out, you won’t be going out for an extended period of time, so there are things you probably won’t need to take with you. I don’t know how 2 people live in minivans. Boggles my mind. But for several days, definitely doable the way you have arranged everything. I’m hoping your daughter gets bitten by “the bug” and embraces the adVANtures you two will have.
Thank you! (I'm hoping the same thing! 🤞) I'll definitely need to add a storage box (still not sire brwn roof or rear box) soon if we start doing any longer trips or going more frequently!
Good job 👏 It all looks so nice, love it. You have some neat stuff too. I'm sorry the heat is so bad, I know it makes it harder for you 🙏 Everything looks great, You and your Daughter should be set for some fun Advantures 😊❤️🙋♀️
Thank you my friend! I'm definitely over this brutal heat wave for sure!!
Great job downsizing, like that utensil bag.
Thank you! I thought it was so cute & thankfully it held everything I needed it to!!
Light is good, doesnt have to be perfect.
It's not a bad idea to go through everthing to see what is actually necessery.... says me with definitly too much stuff and to little organization in my camper!! 😉 The utility bag with kitchen stuff is a good idea!! 👍
Oeh no cheese 😖.... Maybe very, very Old (goat or parmezan cheese? There is little to non lactose in there... Thanks and Greetings 👋
That little utility organizer bag is awesome! It fit everything with a little room to spare, so now I never have to go digging around for what I need!! Thank you!! (I'm hoping to find a decent non dairy cheese, but I'm not excited about it lol!
Loved this video of your curated needed items for advanturing. I need all of these things for my minivan ($$$) so it helps to learn what others find important. The compact totes and organizers within are really great!
Thank you! I lucked out with those totes. I wish I could share a link for them, but they were a Marshall's find!
Looks Great Heather❤
Thank you!!
Great job, very well thought out and executed.
Thank you!!
Nice
Thank you!!
Looks great looking 🌷
Thanks so much!!
Very nice ! Enjoy 👍🚙🏞🌞
Thank you!!
Great job!
Thank you!!
First video of yours I’ve seen and I love how you organized everything. I really like the kitchen items & thanks for the links. I don’t have a van yet but hope to in the near future. I subscribed to your channel and look forward to more videos of yours. I hope you and your daughter have many fun and safe travels together!!
Thank you so much I really appreciate it!
Very nice place you have❤
Thank you!!
Somehow I missed this video. Did I miss you making cookies for your daughter in the Dash griddle?
We did! It was only for a few minutes on my last beach camp vlog with her to Anastasia State Park. They turned out decent (after I messed up the first one lol)
Girl it called glistening!! If we don’t bi__h, sweat or fart. We explode😅
Hahaha!! I honestly felt like I might spontaneously combust at the beach yesterday!!!
Great job Heather! Can you eat vegan cheese? Keep an eye out for used roof top boxes too.
I can... I think I've been hesitating b/c the only non dairy cheese I tried years ago was not good lol! I know there are tons of options now and they've gotten way better though, so I need to get over it and try some!!
@@HeathersHikesAndAdVANtures I only tried cause I had a coupon. I liked it. Just expensive. I only buy with coupon. It was called Violife. If I had to give up cheese I would definitely go with vegan cheese. Even if it was just to trick my brain I am eating cheese and not depriving myself even more due to health! 😂😁
@@juliehoot3916 I think that sounds familiarm I'm visiting my sister in Charleston soon and she's been doing vegan cheese for years now & I think she's tried most, so hopefully I can sample hers before committing lol. I always said the three things I could never give up were potatoes, cheese and bread... if I have to eliminate nightshades next I may ri*t in the streets lol!!
Very well done! Can you come and downsize my apartment?😩
Lol, thank you!! My home-based is a different story - it's a disaster currently haha!!
Also your bed do you have a mattress top on your seat?
Great job! Stove?
I use an an electric pan if I think I will need it, but I can usually do everything I need with my smaller appliances, so I pretty much only bring it if I know I'll be wanting to use it. (I'm a little too chicken to transport the propane stoves still)
Way to go on the down sizing! I need to in my van also. May I ask where you got your two tubs with lids? They look to be a great size!
Safe and happy ‘advantures’ to you and your daughter 💖.
Thank you so much! I lucked out and found them a Marshall's for only 5.99/ea! I didn't check their website though, they may have some they could ship to your store for you since they were relatively new just a few weeks or so
@@HeathersHikesAndAdVANtures Thanks! 💖
Where did you purchase your car jumper from and what's the name of it
I’m not sure what brand Heather has but several years ago I bought a Goo Loo car jumper kit for my car that works really, really well. The next year I got a second one for my van, and last year I bought one as a gift for my significant other for his truck. He travels for work and got stranded last year with no one nearby to provide a jump start. He’ll never get stranded like that again! 👏 I’ve purchased the 4000 A jump starters which are more expensive but they are also small power packs with a flash light feature and you can charge your cell phone or other devices with it. Today they’re on sale at Amazon for $99.00 and I’ve purchased all of mine on sale for that price. They do have the smaller amperage units for quite a bit less…. I saw Bob Wells recommend the Goo Loo brand, I’m glad I went with it! I’ve used mine multiple times and it’s super easy and very, very compact to travel with. Hope this helps…
@@mtaylor2901 Thanks for sharing, I will be shopping for one and this feedback is helpful!
If I was going to get another, I think I'd get a Nocco, b/c I've heard so many great things about them from others. Knock on wood I've had no issues with mine, and stays charged well, but I've only had to use it one time so far on mine, and once for a friend, and it worked great both times. Just wanted to mention the other one in case. But here is a link for the one I have. It looks like its currently unavailable though
amzn.to/4eMptHF
where did you find your new totes please?
I found them at Marshall's in the store. I wish I could share a link, but I haven't seen them since
