I hear an intimidating name like "Blacktron" and see these all black space suits, and instead of some intimidating facial expressions, ITS JUST THE FREAKING MINIFIG DEFAULT FACE! XDXDXDXDXD Thats great!
Good point! Now I got to upgrade my Galaxy Explorer and Blacktron Cruiser minifig faces to better reflect their personalities :P Maybe some pirate faces for Blacktron would be fitting.
When I first saw this thing, I kid you not, the first thing I said was "Damn, that's just straight up a Blacktron set.". I'm not even the much of a classic space gal, but it felt so instantly recognizable. Since I already have the Galaxy Explorer, I might get this to go with it.
I’d love to see a Blacktron 2, Ice Planet, or M-Tron remake. This set is better than it looked on the images. I like all the printed parts, but my only issue is that the rover’s cockpit isn’t air-tight, since the rover isn’t hidden inside the ship.
well the bar was pretty low :) , the original buggy had NO cockpit whatsoever - i would also want one set from the other factions ( blacktron , ice planet , m-tron , space police , ufo )
Im so excited to get my hands on this set! I have both the Galaxy explorer and the GWP and they pair so well together for display! This set gonna make the display so much cooler!! Amazing review as always!! I definitely hope we get more Blacktron on the future!
i see this as more a hommage to Blacktron than a dedicated remake, and i think it captures a lot ofthe essence of the old series. love the modularity and the dropship play feature, definitely one i will snag for myself sometime in the future
Earlier this year I was able to complete the Blacktron 1 collection (all with original boxes!), and the ‘87 Renegade was the final piece I added. While not 100% perfect in my eyes, I feel like the remake does a good job of capturing the essence of Blacktron while updating everything to modern elements and building standards. Now that they’ve remade two ships, I’d love to see them tackle an old space base. Great review! 😎👍
I am sold. You did such a brilliant job of showing the ship all of its features and modding the rebel cruiser on to it. This alongside the galaxy explorer will look incredible! I need it.
I really wish LEGO would do a 3in1 of the early Classic Space vehicles from the late ‘70s/early ‘80s: the light grey era. The parts selection back then was not very wide with lots of sets having parts in common, so it would be possible to have B and C models using parts from an A model such that all three were updates of period CS vehicles. Throw in a red CS minifigure and I’d get multiples of that set!
The Galaxy Explorer remake from a couple years ago actually had alternate models! The instructions for them are also online, though, which is a shame I think
I never owned any original Blacktron, however I received a box from elderly neighbour that had saved their son's Lego collection. In their was his nearly completed Ice Planet Deep Freeze Defender and a single Blacktron minifigure. When I was kid that lonesome Blacktron fig was the go to "bad guy" for my builds. Between that and getting the Galaxy Explorer last year, I think I have to get this set. The Galaxy Defender was such a love letter to the original, this appears to be the same!
So glad this is coming out i already have both the original and the gift with purchase crusier and the original message intercept base so this is exactly what I need to complete my build
Apologies if its been said already but the rear boosters of the og Renegade do come off too. In fact one of the major modifications I made to my entire BT1 collection was swapping out the bricks with pins for simple 1x4 technic bricks with holes so I can reconfigure everything with everything else just by using two pins! Admittedly you do then run into a few pin height differences here and there (looking at you og Invader) but it still makes for lots of fun seeing how different craft combinations look XD Thanks for the great review and even more images of the amazing new Renegade! Cant wait to pick one or three up for myself.
Blacktron was before my time, but if I was gonna buy one of these two, it would be the original, since I already own plenty of modern sets, and I enjoy seeing how Lego has changed over time. They do seem pretty expensive though, and so far I've just picked up some of the later M-tron stuff.
So hyped for this set. $99 isn’t a bad price at all, and I love how industrial and focused more on function than form it is. Is there any word on a Futron GWP, like how the Galaxy Explorer came with the Blacktron Cruiser GWP?
I really love the classic space era, already have the space explorer, so i am definitly going to get this to go along with it. Now we just need an M-Tron or Ice world remake!
This is the perfect set. Love it. Better than the original, not that the original was bad or anything, but this one is honestly better than the City Space ships (near tie with the really good $20 Space ship) . This set is what we all vintage lego fans wanted. This is how you get our attention. I somehow didn't even buy more than one Medieval Town square (mostly because of the stickers) - just got the one and some goats on PAB. THIS on the other hand, I will get at least 5 ... main model, alt model and 3 to play around with and see what sticks..
Very cool! Definitely going to be getting this when it comes out! Although I think you missed that the rockets on the original CAN be removed for modularity; you can even see it on the bottom part of the original instructions! No worries, though!
I’m with you here - this is going to be a contender for the best of 2025. You know, this one does something for me the Galaxy Explorer didn’t. It reminds me a lot of Benny’s ship from the LEGO Movie line. It’s got a very sleek but angular look much like that set, while still feeling quintessentially 80s. I really like how it contrasts the Galaxy Explorer with its aggressive, sharp, and asymmetrical features. A real balance was also achieved between simplicity and intricacy, with the designer relying on just a few scaffolding and lattice elements here and there for detail. Most LEGO sets now are too detailed to me - they can’t go a single set without either adding ingots or masonry bricks at least somewhere on a build. This set commits to “less is more” and I appreciate that. It also has a very similar design language to the GWP while adding onto it. I just wish the modular system had stayed consistent. Fantastic review all around. I always appreciate how genuine, yet professional you are. You seem legitimately passionate and excited for everything you do involving LEGO, and it’s very encouraging. I also noticed you always reply to comments, which is super kind. It makes people feel acknowledged and heard. As someone who has been watching since the beginning of the Minecraft World, I can’t wait to see more from Cheesy Studios!
Thanks for showing all the connection bits. Gonna prep my gwps before this releases. Your logo / theme always reminds me of the 'a trip to the moon' classic film.
It would be really cool to see a Space Police remake next. I grew up with Space Police 3 so it would be cool to get an updated version of one of the original ships.
The first big LEGO set I got as a kid was the Ice Planet Deep Freeze Defender. There is no set that would be a more iconic representation of the old space themes than that one. I absolutely loved the Ice Planet sub theme.
My one complaint with how this new version looks is that the "neck" that the cockpit connects to isn't long enough, but that can very easily be fixed by just making my own filler segment
I’m currently putting together the original invader and I am literally missing 1 pieces. The announcement of this set makes me want to find that piece all the more now.
I would love to see a remade mars mission set, mars mission sets were pretty good for the time at least in my opinion (of course not all of em the theme had some notable flaws)
Nobody really wants Mars Mission sets. I've sold a lot of them over the years and sometimes you almost have to give them away, or at least sell them so cheap it feels that way.
I'm really stoked about them making all these classic Space remakes! It's already the third such ship they've released. At this rate, we might get remakes of some beloved 90s themes such as Aquazone, UFO or Insectoids even, now that would be something.
Lego is one of the few companies, for all its missteps, that can consistently reboot its properties and do so that the new releases are just as good as the original. Maybe we could even get a base/headquarters remake to go with these ships
I'm definitely going to colour swap a lot of the yellow to black as there's too much for my taste, but this looks really cool and I'm so glad LEGO is bringing back classic space
That's a good question! Yeah, I did end up using a few extra parts. The only major ones were a few extra of these: www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=77808&idColor=85#T=C&C=85
I have been very impressed with what LEGO has done with this line of classic set remakes. If only there were some smaller sets that were available to purchase in store on their own instead of being a gwp.

Hi, I realy like the Style of the new Renegade. But two things I will change. 1. all red Parts will be removed 2. I will switch to the „old“ Blacktron Connection. Thank you for showing
I am honestly slightly disappointed instead of the container for the rover which could be used as a modular component in the original, we just get the rover... a really cool looking and substantial rover.. which drops and gets picked back up in an incredibly cool Technic function, okay the compromise doesn't make me too upset actually. Neither do the aesthetic changes! I'm a big fan of ships that are incredibly industrial, like pieces of hostile architecture that have managed to take flight. And I can't imagine a more fitting look for Blacktron, if anything it almost reads to me as a homage to the rudimentary appearance of the original set, just more refined and evocative of a proper 'in universe' aesthetic rather than the limitations of a smaller piece selection
The engines on the original Renegade can be pulled off and attached to the back of the cockpit or communications pod. I would love to have the rest of Blacktron 1 remade, Battrax, Message Intercept Base (with crater plate!) and color corrected Meteor Monitor. The only thing I dislike about this set is all the different colors visible, especially when the differed sections are removed and red clips are visible. For the power packs I’ll replace the gray parts for black.
@@micabryant4513 yeah, but even on their own, they would still have to bring back the gun and weapon accessories that the western minifigs used to have.

Not a fan of the retro style shapes and colors, but the playable gimmicks look fun. I definitely would like to see more of this sense of adventure in the playsets - rearrangeable modules, vehicles carrying vehicles, exposed structures and rigging, abundance of gadget-y things
For me, the most iconic space set other than the Galaxy Explorer is the Mega Core Magnetizer. That subject is probably very unlikely though, as I can't see TLG with any fitting wheels for it. Deep Freeze Defender would be unreal too. Perhaps literally unreal, because it can't be done without trans-neon orange. Would perhaps turn out alright if they'd back all tno bricks with reddish orange though.
@CheeseyStudios FYI a great comparison for how nice these sets are is to compare Galaxy Explorer with Benny's Spaceship, Spaceship, Spaceship! Very different feel for sets trying to accomplish something very similar.
I didn't get the Blacktron GWP but I would make another small spaceship to attach to the front like you added on. Looks alot better than the stumpy block.
@CheeseyStudios would really like to know your opinion, if you can only buy 1 spaceship in 2025, how would you choose between this blacktron renegade and the 60466 Lego City Galactic Spaceship? 🤣🤣
Some smaller price points for classic remakes would be great. So far you either get GWP or $100+ prie tags. I do love the large sets but it'd be nice to fill in some of the gaps,
At first I thought some odd choices were made, but your side by side really did show me this is a good build. I just do not get why do they discontinue the only relevant set for this the galaxy explorer? I held off on that because there was no context for it.
that truck from the remake looks a lot like the vehicle mode of the Autobot Kup, who debuted in 1986's (a year before the og renegade) Transformers the movie
It’s so frustrating how inconsistent the reporting is on whether or not it’s compatible with the 2023 GWP cruiser. Literally half the reviews are saying it is. The other half aren’t.
I ope they make a remake of a UFO space set like the 6829: Radon Rover or 6900: Cyber Saucer, I remember they had cool helmets and interesting prints also lots of trans neon green. I also hope P.A.B has the Blacktron mini figure parts available again, I couldn't get any last time but I'd love to get some and make my own crew!

I didn't get the Blacktron GWP but I would make another small spaceship to attach to the front like you added on. Looks alot better than the stumpy block.
We need a classic space police mothership remade. Forgot the name of the first one...
That would be a good one. I just watched Jang's review of it early this month, so it's fresh in my mind, too
can't wait to see ice-planet remake, as i'm a 90's kid !!!
That would be awesome, especially with the new minifigures from this year!
@CheeseyStudios would really like to know your opinion, if you can only buy 1 spaceship in 2025, how would you choose between this blacktron renegade and the 60466 Lego City Galactic Spaceship? 🤣🤣
A GWP of a Drop cargo container with supplies would be a nice edition. I know that’s gonna be my fist MOC.
Some smaller price points for classic remakes would be great. So far you either get GWP or $100+ prie tags. I do love the large sets but it'd be nice to fill in some of the gaps,
This set will look really good with the 2021 galaxy explorer
i think that if they used the canopy from the gwp and changed the plates around it from yellow to black this set will be so much better
0:56 god damn look at that new black shine!!
I swear, if I had moneys I would become a channel member. Maybe in the future.
At first I thought some odd choices were made, but your side by side really did show me this is a good build. I just do not get why do they discontinue the only relevant set for this the galaxy explorer? I held off on that because there was no context for it.
That 2025 version of the Blackatron Renegade is sick! 😀
The size alone makes it soooo cool
The amount of yellow hurts my eyes and breaks my heart 💔
I can definitely see where you're coming from. It's a big change!
I think its mostly the cockpit line thats a little overbearing, switch it with black and it should look fine
I would love to see the Adventurers remake, the temple, the Sphinx, car, saloon and a plane.... in one BIG set :)
Yesssssss
Original still has that special charm
Awesome review I love black tron I own the original plus lego alien I hope we get a revamp of alien too but Awesome space ser might get it
i really like how the new renegade is much larger and more complex than the og.
it makes the 1987 renagde look like a baby.
Right!? The size difference definitely blew my mind
And I Hope we are getting a Space Police 1 Remake very soon.
funky space is the best kind of space 💪🏻
that truck from the remake looks a lot like the vehicle mode of the Autobot Kup, who debuted in 1986's (a year before the og renegade) Transformers the movie
Really wish the GWP would have been all prints.
All hail blacktron !
Do you happen to have a list of parts needed to modify the GWP Invader?
The new one looks cool, but looks very blocky and i miss hoses. i'd love a new 6973 Deep Freeze Defender
Need a remake of Ice Planet's Deep Freeze Defender!
I cant believe we finally got another Legend of Zelda set! I gotta admit though, its not very accurate in the slightest besides all the tri-forces tbh
I feel like it's over designed . The invader one struck a much better balance imho. Still gonna get it tho.
where is RR Slugger?????
He posted on slugging around
I definitely need a good ice planet vehicle remake to go with the incredible CMF
That would be awesome. It's too bad trans-neon orange no longer is produced 😭
