Brand new E-Flite Habu SS build and Habu STS comparison!

  • Had to get the new Habu! No flights yet, it's cold and crappy in Ohio. Everything is basically the same except for the wheels, the engine's ability to take a 6s battery, and the color scheme. Detailed the differences, added some cheesy music to the accelerated boring portions, and can't wait to fly them together! Enjoy!

    So it’s the same plane with different esc, motor, and stickers. Good to know!

    Looking fwd to your maiden. The STS was way to expensive in Australia as it was RTF A$795 This SS is A$500 so almost the same price as the Eflite Viper which has retracts & flaps. I think this is a little bit beefier than my Arrows Marlin.

    They are the same plane, they modified the canopy so it can accommodate a 6s pack. I immediately noticed the pilots head is closer to the top of the canopy and knew why. Other than that its just a 6s motor/fan and Avian lite ESC swapped out as well as different landing gear. I put viper 70 retracts on my Habu STS so I didn't order the SS, Instead I ordered the fan/motor, the avian lite 6s ESC, and the battery hatch (witch will snap right on the sts) and converted my STS to a SS but with retracts. Still waiting for the esc though,its still on preorder.

      How's your STS to SS jet flying? I came late to the party and bought the STS PNP during Labor Day Sale and already put 15 flights on it. I'm already thinking about doing the 6s conversion.

      @@aragorn318 its awesome and well worth the upgrade to 6s. I did notice that the pack needs to be all the way back for the best CG. but the power is so much fun. In hindsight, its probably better to just buy the SS , but, like you, I already had the sts.

      @aragorn318 Рік тому

      @@PhilBender612 Well, I already had a spare AR631 and I bought the STS PNP from HH on sale for $200 so it worked out for me. I assume the SS EDF unit weighs noticeably more than the STS's so the heavier 6s packs can CG in the hatch. Are you using 6s 4000?

    • @PhilBender612
      @PhilBender612 Рік тому

      @@aragorn318 I usually fly with a 3200mah spektrum smart pack, but a 4000 will fit(barely) but is noticeably heavier. Most of the added weight is from the 6s pack ,not so much from the fan unit/esc swap. In my case, I have viper 70 retracts installed so I have a little added weight there too. But the CG requires the pack be all the way back otherwise the nose feels extremely heavy and take offs are a challenge.

      @@PhilBender612 That makes sense since I fly with a 4s 4000 and it's already far back. Will I need to purchase an SS canopy?

    Are your STS wheels the stock wheels or the "larger upgrades?" Also it looks like the STS wheels are a touch larger than the stock SS wheels...is this true? My local field is VERY bumpy, trying to decide if I should even attempt a maiden before up sizing the gear on the SS. Thanks for the video! Very helpful.

    • @Jeffroe111

      The STS wheels are stock and have about and extra 1/2 inch of foam than the SS wheels. The foam part of the wheel is pretty thin on the SS!

    I notice the elevator had some down trim on the sts. Did you have to do some adjustments on the elevator on the ss. I haven’t flown mine yet and am thinking about going ahead and manually trimming the elevator now.

    Can you do the Avian programming where you set up thrust reverse and pilot fatigue with a non-Spektrum battery?

    • @Jeffroe111
      @Jeffroe111  2 роки тому

      Yes. The Spektrum smart battery will give you extra data about the battery but any battery should work and should not affect the programming for reverse thrust.

    Do the wheels seem like they would be less bouncy on the SS? I love my STS but the landings can get bouncy if there is a bump on the runway.

    • @Jeffroe111
      @Jeffroe111  2 роки тому

      Possibly because there's a lot less foam but since there's really no suspension it's still probably going to bounce.

    Is it possible to run the Habu SS 70mm with a 3S 4000 mah battery?

    • @Jeffroe111
      @Jeffroe111  5 місяців тому +1

      I suppose it's possible however I would suspect it would be seriously underpowered. It's designed for a 4S to 6S and with weight and balance in mind, the 6S is the way to go. If you want 3S compatible, go with the STS.

    Any fiberglass support in the wing?

    • @Jeffroe111
      @Jeffroe111  2 роки тому +1

      It looks like there might be some sort of a strengthening rod through the center of the wing underneath the tape that covers the wires for the servos, but I'm honestly not quite sure. I was holding the wing up to the light and that's the only area that looks like there might be something.

    In the video @8:17, we compared the predicted RPM of the SS 2400Kv motor to the STS 3200Kv motor when using STS 3S/4S batteries vs SS 4S/6S batteries. Performing the calculations of RPM (NO LOAD!) = battery voltage * Kv, we found that:
    STS @ 3S (11.1V) = 35,520 RPM and STS @ 4S (14.8V) = 47,360 RPM.
    SS @ 4S (14.8V) = 35,520 RPM and SS @ 6S (22.2V) = 53,280 RPM.
    So theoretically, the STS on 3S should have the same thrust performance (35,520 RPM) as the SS on 4S (35,520 RPM). But the SS on 6S (53,280 RPM), should blow away the STS on 4S (47,360 RPM). These RPMs are ideal, no load values and show the relative performance differences between the SS and the STS. Once the weather improves, we'll throw them up together and check for these performance differences taking care to match up battery "C" ratings and manufacturer.
