Thank you, thank you, Brother Hilton for all the time you spend in our behalf in preparing these most inspired lectures! I am 77 years old and have loved and feasted upon the words of the Scriptures throughout my life, but your Insight, PowerPoints, and clarification of the Scriptures, especially in this, Christ ‘s sermon, to the Nephites, has enabled me to see things I have never seen before! It is miraculous, and you have made that possible! I especially love how you have clarified what words come from what profits. I will never be able to thank you enough for what you have added to my life, my testimony, my understanding and my love of the sacred Scriptures!
This was so powerful and the best explanation of this sermon and one that I really needed to hear. There is so much packed in here and I feel the Lord inviting us to find layers and layers in it, and this lesson really helped me get a scaffolding so I can come back to it again and again. Thank you!!
Thank you Brother Hilton. This lesson was so good and really helpful in understanding a difficult passage of scriptures. Your explanation is amazing and your testimony at the end really touched my heart.
Thank you for your insights! This is the podcast I recommend to people who are looking for help with the scriptures, but who don’t feel they can devote 2-3 hours to a weekly podcast. You always provide a good 30,000-foot view and your study techniques are great for getting us to look at things in a different way.
I appreciate the work John put into putting this together and making it applicable into ourselves. At the 30 minute mark he comments that it’s unclear how these things are going to take place. I’m here to testify that if you pray to the father for inspiration regarding this, he will reveal how this is going to happen. I’m not allowed to put my revelation regarding this here in these comments. I’m just here to encourage you to find out for yourself. If he revealed them to me, he will reveal them to you.
Wow! Thanks for explaining this so plainly. I can see how the story of the 10 virgins applies here, because many (the five unprepared) can so easily miss, or take lightly, or disregard this message. Especially as applying to the gentiles.
I just started the video but had to leave a comment - I have been thirsting for knowledge on this topic and then this appears in my UA-cam feed! Thank you!!!! ❤
This was so informative and inspiring! I just love your lessons. ☀️❤️Thank you for sharing with us. My only struggle is being raised by a mentally ill abusive Father. When I hear God threaten with wrath and anger being kindled it triggers me so badly. I’m trying to trust our Father as a God of love, patience, mercy. And I just cannot reconcile with the anger and wrath expressed in the scriptures, since my mortal father seemed to find pleasure and satisfaction in hurting his children. But thank you for teaching us so much about our Savior and His love and Plan. It’s next level glorious. I just don’t want to love Him out of fear. I’m trying so hard to love The Lord because He is so good. ❤
Thanks for sharing this perspective. I'm sorry that you had an abusive father--I love that you're still making efforts to connect with your Heavenly Father.

@@roburry Joseph Spencer writes the servant in 3 Ne 21:10 is the Book of Mormon (in a word in season). I think that is true but I also think the verse applies to Joseph Smith.
@ - The servant as the BoM? That’s interesting. The Jews think the servant in Isaiah is Israel. I don’t think it’s either. I’m going with Joseph Smith. A lot of people seem to get nervous talking about the servant. (As in this video) We have no problem believing that Moroni, a resurrected being came to deliver the plates, but we seem to have a problem buying into Joseph returning as a resurrected being. The scriptures are pretty clear, but we seem to look the other way for some reason. Thanks for your comment!
@@roburry I hadn’t thought of Moroni. That is a good point… throughout his decades of solitude you could consider him “marred.” But he was healed by communing with the Nephites on the old records. Matt Bowen says God himself suggests the Jews are the suffering servant (in article “What thank they the Jews?”). I don’t think it matters too much who the servant is… if God treats anyone that way He will treat everyone that way. For example the whole point of the gospel is for the Gentiles to have the blessings of Israel. Ultimately if the servant is Israel then it can apply to the Gentiles too. That is what makes reading these scriptures so tough. But the Savior said righteous will look for the signs so I think we are doing the right thing to ask. I think the servant here is Joseph Smith but what will the story be as we get more scripture? Will there be another servant that meets the criteria? I don’t view them as “signs “so much as a recipe.
I wonder how many ways the "gathering" of Israel may come about. I see a gathering through the Doctrine of Christ, through the solemnity of covenants, through the "highway" of the covenant path, through lineage declarations of Patriarchal blessings. We are witnessing this type of gathering before us now!
Thank you again John. I know these latter-day macro matters are super important, but the learning disabilities of my mind leave me unsure about retaining things sometimes. Maybe because the Lord’s open-ended approach (no defined timeline) is harder for me - not that I’m complaining, whatever the Lord wants is always best - but I need to think more about how I can mitigate the challenging aspects of my learning style.
Prayers did make Milton go from cat5 to a cat1 before it hit Florida! The path of Helene followed the BofM path and cars were cut down…. Yikes! Praying and helping others definitely helped these calamitous activities!
I was praying so hard during Milton after the devastating Helene. We were praying everywhere. My 6yo son, without having seen any of the news, heard about the hurricane at school and he came home and drew a picture of the Florida panhandle, a huge spikey hurricane coming towards it, a huge tornado sucking up pets, and himself crying in a upside down house. I sat with him and tearfully hugged him, and then he drew a figure in the sky and told me that “Jesus is protecting Florida”. The next morning, I woke up to learn the Milton went from a cat5 to a cat1. The power of prayer is REAL. These little children know. ❤
One other thing: ch 21 v 22-24 sure sound to me that the Lord is saying descendants of Lehi will build the city of New Jerusalem, while believing Gentiles and others of Israel who come there will assist them. I think it’d be wonderful to see the remnant of Jacob do most of the planning and preparation and construction work of this most precious and holy project. Such an accomplishment would be a very loving way for the Savior and the remnant of Jacob to express their confidence in and devotion to each other.♥️ How do you read this passage? Do you think I’ve essentially got it, or am I out to lunch?
I want to see more of the original footnotes put in by Parley P. Pratt. Eg 2 nephi 3:24 'indian prophet '... was changed in 1920 to read 'Joseph Smith '... why?
I think there is a little confusion here...the original Book of Mormon did not have footnotes. I believe the first footnotes appeared in 1879, and it's important to recognize that footnotes are NOT scripture--there can be mistakes in them.
The great and marvelous work is yet to occur. Read 1st Nephi 13 and 14. This servant described in 3rd Nephi 21 comes after the restoration and is the great polarizing figure. Even MCkonkie admitted it was a future servant. Most members will reject this servant because they have rejected the greater things because of their unbelief in the lesser things which is he Book of Mormon. In 3rd Nephi 16 is says that when the gentiles sin against and reject the fulness of the gospel (brought forth by this latter day servant) they will become salt that hath lost its savor and will be cast out and trodden under foot. Only way you can qualify as the salt of the earth is to entered the covenant of baptism in the LDS church.
As you know 3 Nephi 16 uses both the words "if" and "when" about the Gentiles. I pray that both individually and collectively we choose to repent and be numbered among the house of Israel.
@johnhiltoniii I agree. I have no doubt there will be those who will repent as they will become the nursing father's and mothers to the House of Israel. However, I think the numbers will be much smaller than most are willing to imagine if Isaiah is correct in what he saw and wrote about.
@@Avoicecyringinthesuburbs Sounds like the immigration happening right now. And Elder Bednar's talk about not being prideful and instead be humble and charitable goes along with it.
Three questions (musings really) 1) another group “numbered among” another people was the children of Sam. They were numbered among the Nephites. And… we never even hear of “Samites”. Does to be numbered among Lehites mean to speak their language etc… 2) why did the Saints ever think they would be building Zion? Clearly, we will assist the people of Lehi to build it. I feel like anyone reading this chapter would know the pioneers didn’t have a chance. 3) are there layers that we are missing out on? We can reduce this chapter to the following “the gentiles will get the gospel and give it to the Lehites and then the wicked gentiles will be destroyed.” Actually, that sounds very simple. But these are the words that were so difficult that people had to go home to rest the night before. Ergo We must be missing a whole level of meaning. Regardless, thanks for breaking down with the text actually says. And thanks for your energy.
I now believe it was essential for the Saints to try and fail to build Zion. The D and C is written so that we know where the righteous tripped up and avoid those mistakes. Hopefully we never think we are better than others.
@xelaevans yes there was a conference talk a while back about a father and son lost and having two roads to choose from. They felt led strongly to go down one road just to find out it was the wrong road so then they had to turn around and get on the correct road and the son was confused why they had been led wrong. The father said sometimes the spirit leads you one way just long enough so you figure out that's not going to work then when you get on the correct path you know it's right without a doubt. I think that's happening with people leaving the church too. I think many will figure out it's not correct and turn back to the covenant path. I hope.
