I’ve always thought of “practic(ing) virtue and holiness before me” as “doing right things right every time” then thinking about how I can’t measure up. Great to see this teaching in a light that makes sense to me and accommodates my shortcomings. Thanks again John. I love our Savior Jesus Christ. He has given me the best things that have ever happened to me in a lifetime of many great privileges and blessings.
Your class was amazing as always. Reinforcing that Jesus Christ introduces himself, reminding us that he was the one that was crucified for our sins and for all mankind’s ❣️
Bro Hilton, THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I have learned SO much from your podcasts!! I so loved what you said about praying to the Father that our ancestors will help us on the other side of the veil. Also was so grateful for the story you shared about being an orthodox Mormon and staying true to our beliefs!!! And finally; I so appreciate the quote from Elder Bednar about the blessings of tithing. Contentment really is a spiritual gift that I need and am SO much happier when I have!
I am reminded of the man who hired me for my current position. I work in a pharmacy which is open 7 days a week. He knew me casually already and brought up working on Sunday. He made it clear that he would schedule me in rotation on Sundays. “Everyone says they go to church, but no one does.” (He was raised in a family that did NOT live their church’s teachings.) The store I work at just happens to be 3 minutes away from my church building. (Not easy to find in Texas.) Every time I worked on Sunday, I would ask to leave for lunch a few minutes early so I could go over and partake of the Sacrament. I would sit in the foyer, in my work clothes, and eat my lunch. I did this without fail every time I was scheduled. A few months after I began working at this location, he quietly pulled me aside to let me know that he wouldn’t be scheduling me on Sundays anymore. “I can tell that you actually live your beliefs.” As you can imagine, this was a great blessing for me. It also opened the door to my coworkers approaching me to learn more about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Thank you for sharing. It is amazing what an example we can be if we just live our beliefs. I work in a hospital, so that means that occasionally I am asked to work on Sundays. I have said that I can work after 1 p.m. I didn't say why, but one of my supervisors figured it out on her own. I don't mind the work. I feel that I am doing the Lord's work when I work on Sundays. I am showing my love for my fellow man.
Loved this entire video, thank you!! A concept we discussed at length in our FHE singles group Monday was from 3 Nephi 23:7-13 where Jesus asked about Samuel's prophecies. We noted that Jesus probably didn't ask with accusation or frustration in his tone, just a question. And Nephi wasn't ashamed or guilty in his response, just remembered nope we haven't done that and fixed it - it wasn't too late. I think this applies so beautifully to repentance, changing a habit, overcoming addiction, or remembering a prompting or invitation we were given. We often pray during church that we will act upon the promptings felt during the meeting. But I go home and forget, and then at some point have a flash of remembrance but think it's too late now. One example of that awkward moment was from Emily Belle Freeman's conference talk "In 2019 a prophetic invitation was extended to the women of the Church.... President Russell M. Nelson invited us to study D&C 25... Accepting that invitation changed my life." Am i the only one who has no memory of that invitation - and it changed her life. But like Nephi's reminder it's not too late, I can still just fix it. An addiction or habit I've been prompted to change, I can do that now. A new pattern I've felt inspired to put into my life can still be incorporated. Jesus is not accusing and I don't have to be ashamed, just use His Atonement and do it - He promises it's never too late.
I didn’t remember that President Nelson issued that invitation either. When Sister Freeman talked about it I thought, “oh, yeah, I forgot about that!” I’m so happy to read your comment here. You reminded me of some of the beautiful parts of the gift of repentance. His grace is sufficient to provide forgiveness AND to protect me from committing sins as I strive to live closer to the ideal life.
Thank you 🎉Thank you 🎉and Thank you dear brother 🙏🌹I've been having same doubts about paying my tithe of a enherecy I've got. And watching your video I got the answer in what to do. Thank you so much!! And also, my husband died 7 month ago and I wasn't sure if could ask for him to help me out and I find the answer on your lesson! Thank you so so much for taking your time to make this videos😭. For me it's has been a hild blessing!!! Never stop ok? My English is not to good but I hope you understand 🌹
I understand you Brisa, your English is great. I'm sorry to hear of your husband's passing. I'm confident that he can and will help you from beyond the veil!
Your presentations are powerful, fun and motivating!!! Please keep them coming and know the work you put in to make them is greatly appreciated and truly faith and testimony building!!!!!!
I want to add my witness that our ancestors are absolutely on sacred errand to act as ministering angels to us. I've had several experiences where I had seen and felt their presence in my life, and the lives of my children. They bear us up and help us on those walks where our loads are too heavy to carry. They know us, love us, and help us to fight the battles that we cannot see. Romans 8:31 "If God be for us, who can be against us?" I envision my entire family in front of me, beside me, and behind me and when Satan and his minions see me, they see ALL of us and run because we are a powerful family bound by the power of heaven ❤
I did the same thing to get through BYU.. loans grants, I worked, and did without. But I paid my tithing and I graduated with my bachelors degree….I was blessed to be a success.
I love these Master Classes and All the many things that you are doing Thank you always for your help and videos I try to catch even the clips. Thank you very much ❤❤❤ 2:59
I needed the reminder to journal. I have not as of late. I call several suitcases of journaling my “time capsules” 😂. Tithing is such a blessing. Personally journaling and blessings with fast and tithe are seen in hindsight. Thank you! 🙏🏻
I’ve only recently been introduced to your master class and now watch them regularly. Thank you for doing these videos. I am learning so much and feel inspired to learn more. I hope you’ll be continuing this with the Doctrine and Covenants.
Another wonderful class. I'm almost finished studying your book Considering the Cross which has profoundly changed my relationship with the Savior. Thank you!! I hope you'll be doing a master class for the Doctrine and Covenants. (Lots of work, I understand, but you are such a fine teacher.)
Even the temple profits us. We offer little in the way of cleaning and monetary offerings. We could not do this on our own. Even the very early saints offered more but we are so richly blessed. Even those who don't attend and are unaware are blessed by having a temple. It boggles my mind that people don't want temples in their area.
I grapple with that ! He’s so good in many ways ! If I say something he usually will get truly angry ! And I try to pay tithing on my allowance from him
This is a challenging issue. I recommend counseling with your bishop about it, and please know that God knows the thoughts and intents of your heart and understands that you're balancing different commandments (pay tithing, love your spouse)...
The prophet clearly asked us to call the church by its correct name, that is, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. But since the prophet made this request, there have been many attempts to call the church by other names, such as The Church of Latter-day Saints. This happens especially among members. Sad. The name of Jesus Christ has power. We should not underestimate this power.
This is just what I needed. Thank you so much for the time you put into all of your classes. You are a true blessing.
I'm so glad that this was helpful!
So so good!
Thanks Brenda!
Will you be doing a masterclass for Doctrine and Covenants next year?!
🤞🏻
Yes Please!!!!
I am actively praying for this!! 🙏🏻
🤞
