Well said! I never faced caste issues until I left india to study. I grew up in a city so never really met a lot of desi punjabis that meet you and tend to be very curious about your caste. Worst they call minority caste people with their caste name in a demeaning tone. Feel really sorry for minority caste that have grown in Punjab with discrimination and are now equally part of unequality for otter castes (food, marriage) even though they all claim to be Sikh

So True. i have also seen Bhappa type Bhumra,s acting as they dont have to eat with others. Most of gthe punjabis in western countries are right from the village. They have never left punjab. They have not gone Bengalore, calcutta, etc. This is the reason they are so conservsative , bigoted, close minded. Hindus from small town are the worst .

Yaar pehla apne naam de piche sirf SINGH lgao, hor kuch nai. I refrained from using my surname publically the day I came to know that few people were beaten in a village because they were low caste and were trying to enter a gurudwara of high caste sikhs. Is there even a concept of high caste/low caste in Sikhism?

I am a self made man. Studied hard, working in an MNC. My caste contributed nothing and wont contribute anything in my success.

DK77, to start you do realize that the British led a mass imperialist/coloniast agenda against any nation weaker than them for over 400 years, and in these places they brought equality through the lens of the White Man's Burden, that it was their duty to bring "civilization" through Christian ideals and converts, so to say that the British brought the concept of equality is a bit far fetched they offered this idea equality to those willing to become Christians, this idea that Western values were built to eliminate the caste system just isn't true, it's only that in contemporary history did Western nations decide that Imperialism/Colonialism might be a bad thing. Addressing your second point of the Guru's teaching no caste but yet practicing it, the simplest example I can give the concept of langar, a communal meal in which people of all castes, all backgrounds, all walks of life sit down side by side to enjoy a meal, if you do your research in the days when the caste system was much more prevalent throughout society even so much as looking at someone of a higher caste could have life ending consequences, so for the Guru's to offer a free meal with the only precedent being having to sit next people of a different caste was revolutionary. If you still need another example of when the Guru's put the caste system to the side just look at the fifth Guru (Guru Arjan Dev Ji) who appointed female parcharaks (preachers), this challenge to authority absolutely shook the foundation of the higher caste systems in India who still placed women in patriarchal roles. The ten Guru's didn't strictly use lower caste individuals to fight their battles, many times have higher caste individuals fought in battles along side Maharaj, such as Bhai Mani Singh who was born as Bhatt, who frequented the courts of princes and the encampments of warriors singing their praises, but there's one thing you need to understand once you join the family of the Khalsa and become a Kaur or a Singh you've discarded of your title as Brahmin, a Jatt, a Kamboj you've become part of one family and the only identification you have left is your title as a Singh or a Kaur. And addressing your third point intermarriage is not the true test equality, intermarriage shows that one has love/ appreciation has for the person they are marrying, but true love/appreciation for all people comes through passion, service, love, and change in yourself to continuously look for the positives in what everyone else sees as a negative.

They behave as if they fall from the sky, superior than others or they carry purple blood in them. People often ask me this question in Punjabi: "Tahdi jaat kee h?" and I always reply with this answer: "Singh." Then they look at me with a blank face and have no idea what to say after that.

Anupreet Kaur Should be Lali Anupreet Kaur. You are Khatri and Khatris are vashiya (Business class) in Varna system. Jatts are not part of the Varna and never considered a Pandit of any position to tell Jatts anything. We are a different race and culture that is why Jatts marry their daughter and son in Jatts only.

I agree with your points. I didn't knew about casteism in Sikhism I just heard about it from my dad. I hardly met any sikh and those who I met never asked my caste. I didn't went to Punjab before but when I did to meet my cousin (now he is in Canada even he is Neve coming back) suddenly everyone started asking about caste. Some even ask your caste before entering the temple. When I told him iam a rai sikh he assumed I must be joking Because him I didn't looked like an sc. He assumed all rai sikhs to be illeterate not well mannered so he just said are you joking right I smiled as I was confused and he letted me pass. I was confused as I didn't even knew it was a schedule caste as no one in my family ever used our caste to get reservation yet everyone is quite educated from good colleges. While returning back to delhi via road some asshole jatt even banged our car when I asked him in a sarcastic manner why he did it he replied because girls were in car and car was of Delhi and I know you are of lower caste. We got in a fight( not verbal one) in the end police came and made it stop. Luckily Punjab police is corrupt and my family was more financially prosperous than the other one so had to give a bribe so police would leave us. After that I never even thought of going back to Punjab iam fine in Delhi atleast I don't meet people who would ask my caste before doing anything

Jaat union of Aryan people is made by king janmaejay 4000 yrs ago, 1400 yrs ago brahmans made a new group by splitting jaat union called rajputra or rajpoot...that's why we jaats and rajpoot have 50% common surnames. in ancient test jaats are followers of Buddhism. Chandragupt maurya, raja Ashok, Maharaj harshvardhan, gupt emperor's we're all jaat people known GYAT at that time

u r right about cast system , untouchability is like a cancer in indian society . yes we should treat everyone equally as a human. God makes everyone equal either jat or other (rajput,gujjar,bania{bhappa},luhar{ramgharia},dalits).
i am not a sikh , i am a JAT (happy listening JAT than HINDU) from haryana.
and also feel proud when listen JATT in punjabi music album.
my family have mariage relationship with JAT (jat sikh) . my grandmother is JAT sikh (mann clan). and it is common amoung us.

The caste system is same a class system, its everywhere, its a human condition. Heirarchy creeps in even when you're supposed to refute it.
