Breaking the High Score Leaderboard With Spaghetti Roads! - Mini Motorways

- Mini Motorways Part 2 - taking on Beijing, a harder Mini Motorways map, and employing some new strategies! I do everything I can to keep the different colored communities separate, even if that means creating spaghetti roads. How high of a score can I get?

Lets see.
When all of the businesses fail simultaneously, then that is really good. Just like when building a bridge, the goal it to eliminate weak points. So, if the bridge fails at every point simultaneously, then the stress was evenly distributed. Honestly, this looked like a pretty solid run

Tbh biggest difficulty spike between Motorways and Metro is that you don't instantly get your roads/etc back when you delete them, making the "delete everything and redraw the map" strategy pretty much impossible. Managing things under increasing pressure is quite the difficulty tweak

Hey Tyler, try to avoid 4-Way intersections as cars slow down at them, try to have as many 3-Ways as cars don't slow down for them.
@Isaiah Stovall Especially when the robots can phase through one another instead of having an accident lol
Also is it necessary to connect every house immediately? Like you can just make sure enough cars are getting to the stores to ensure the game doesn’t end and nothing more. Eases congestion and saves roads

Idea: do like a beltway system. As in you connect all the highways into a big circle. Then every time a new highway starts, you can build a bunch of surface roads branching right there. Possibly throw in a roundabout or two. And all the houses just connect with the beltway system and so can then travel long distances quickly and often. The key is to minimize surface leve street clutter by keeping them only as long as necessary to reach the nearest highway entry. Just some ideas from a guy who occasionally notices semi nerdy things like city planning concepts.

Attaching motorways to roundabout instead of near them really helps
If you had noticed that the map expanded down one square when the second red building spawned, you could have saved some road tiles and prevented that first bad blue spawn.
I want to start incorporating “trajesty” into regular conversation

Tragesty

It probably has already been mentioned, and I’m only 8 mins into the video. Tyler seems like he isn’t reading the weekly resupplies of infrastructure fully. Roundabouts, lights, and bridges award 20 road tiles, while motorways only give 10. He has gotten stuck twice now bc he ran out of road tiles, those motorways are the reason. Additionally, mr. python (commenter) is correct. If you use road tiles around entrances and areas you want to keep a certain way, the game won’t generate new things in that spot. Sure, you’re using extra tiles, but it pays off when you want to force the layout of your run.
I’d say your main issue is your highway connections, place the highway a couple squares away from the junctions and use a couple regular roads to slow the traffic before they get to the junction, that way you can take advantage of roundabouts coming off of highways too.
What I’ve found playing this game is that separating communities works well at first, but in the later game when a business spawns on one side of the city and the houses spawn on the other it’s impossible to keep them separate. And then weaving through all of your separate communities makes the traffic worse than if you optimized it for multiple colors.
Also, having multiple routes for colors to go seems to help, because I always end up having one street get really busy
Loving this game keep up the great content
oo this games super fun can't wait to play it xD
You can place roads anywhere, and shops/theaters won’t spawn on top of them, thus you can place them where you don’t want stuff too spawn
I like how the game starts looking super easy, just connecting roads. Until you get later into road traffic insanity.
Brits: Those Yankees never understand our majestic roundabouts.
Kiwis: Yo. Make a game with roundabout and make it go viral.
TIL you can bend motorways like this, nice
Quick tip: put small pieces of road right next to the malls and it will stop other malls spawning right next to it.
aliensrock: "i know i have a lot to improve"
aliensrock's video title: no
Improving traffic flow is one hell of an upside for segregation.
10k + player here. You need to separate the deferent business too, even tho they are the same color. Absolutely avoid roundabouts and try to go around the houses. Connect the businesses only with the closest houses and keep in mind that a small business needs 2-3 houses max, large one 3-4 houses. Connecting more than it's needed creates more problems so you need to balance the influx of cars. Good Luck.
Hey Tyler you can also rotate houses to make them fit wherever you want
I've absolutely loved the last 2 videos on this game another similar game that I think you would like is called Islanders it's on steam and it's a ton of fun
Driver tech, speedrun skips and Drive To Work% made me laugh hard.
I'm playing on my iPad so it's probably a little different but that seems like a pretty good effort for your second game. You missed opportunities at the start which would have made a big difference to your south-west corner. You could have shifted the red road to go south of the red business then blues couldn't have spawned below the red road forcing you to cross cross them.... I really didn't expect you to make it over 2000 based on your start but somehow you did pretty well.
The most times you lose is because you move the motorway to a better spot but vehicles keep using the old, bad one, because the new one doesn’t come into effect until everyone gets off the former
The devs need to make an airplane version
@@trashgarbage7234 flight paths, runways, and towers xD
Awesome gameplay! Only wish you did more screen annotations. It's not hard to get whet your talking about, but the annotations make it even easier.
I legit was watching the vod of this last night
I would put the motorways onto roundabouts so they don’t back up
At the start you had an opportunity to isolate red through bottom and save so many tiles
You need to add an outer loop. Having people using their OneWheels would help also.
Im really enjoying the mini motorways vids, keep it up!
May be try a different strategy of having a big bypass like roundabout in the middle where every different roads intersect?
cool
I love watching cities skylines
wait i haven’t watched you in so long i just remembered that i used to watch your bloons videos
Perhaps traffic lights are a good addition if you have straight roads rather than curvy roads
There might be some merit to intentionally leaving dead roads in some areas just to make sure houses don't spawn in bad places?
Also might be worth pauses and reworking every single road from the ground up just to make sure everything works as smooth as it can? Idk though that might be a bit much.
Apparently, deleted roads don’t come back, so redrawing the entire map isn’t such a good idea, although I had the same thought
tyler these vids are sick pls do more
you can connect a motorway to a roundabout if you just put a one strip piece of road in between.
Me: Yo, my new high score! 1800!
Game: You are the 135790th best player in the world
"I just want better traffic" was the catchphrase od Jim crow!
Where’s me luck be a landlord endless pear run?
I think the problem was that the roads were so efficient that they kept getting stuck in the parking lots because there were more people that the workplace capacity in most places.
Never played this game, but I’ve seen a few played….it looks like the key could be placing roads where you don’t want houses to spawn. If you stay to those types of routes, I wonder if you could group each color together easier?
Thank you for the arrows like someone suggested in the last video!

15:40 there's an unconnected blue house in the bottom left, think it was there for like 2 minutes
I'm pretty sure it was impossible to connect because of the houses around it.
Yeah
Also every house don't have ro be connected to a mall. In early game you only need 2 house connected to a mall. In the next mall upgrade (round mall) you only need around 4-6. The number of houses can change depends on the distance.
This is peak content
Nice
As a general rule, you need 2 houses per square destination and 4 per circular destination
I see professionals fail in the first thousand with well thought out planning. And then fricking gamers beating high scores with messy messy spaghetti LMAO
That's IRL right there
Don't feed highways directly to streets. Use some street tiles to make an Y intersection or at least separe it a bit from the other street.
I’m pretty sure you cant just keep some colors with one of their own shops
For example if you can keep red at one shop and there’s another red one on the map, those red people might want to go to those shops so that’s why the pins build up
You should be able to add more lanes to longer roads
12:45 completely ignoring the major traffic issue between the blue and green business on the left side. Needed a traffic device there or additional roads to handle the flow. The roundabout was too late
I would love to watch an experienced AI play this game
this game is great
Ohhh Ive wanted to play something like this for so long
Would triangle intersections work as rip of roundabouts

Would be insane if they merged the 2 games with the entire community so each train station in mini metro is one of the maps in mini motorways....

It looks like highway 4 was only serving four houses. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't the upper left reds see the highway as a longer route to be avoided, since it's not direct?
TYLER, YOU'VE GOTTA DO SEPARATE ROADS FOR SEPARATE BUSINESS
I must ask is this on steam? If not where can I get this?
You should end a motorway where a new one starts.
