- Mini Motorways Part 5 - here it is, my greatest run so far. Moscow is a city that tried to give me a bunch of trouble, but with careful planning I paved the greatest road network the city has ever seen. Will I ever top this?

Dude, I live in the middle of nowhere, so my road is a 55mph almost all the way to work from the moment I leave my driveway. Its so wonderful.

so apparently those crazy high scores are legit. once you reach a certain point, the demand doesn't increase and you can just leave your game running for as long as you care to wait (which is why you might see a couple scores over a million) but you have to break like 10,000 or something to reach max demand which is already insane
So after achieving 10000 score you pretty much win
@@Me-vu3yv yeah I was just thinking that they should implement a system where if you reach 15k then score changes to infinity, because at that point it's just a waiting game and nobody likes those
Demand should just increase indefinitely
10 k is not even the start, its much higher i'd say over 40 to 70 atleast, even then
@@masonwicks7348 I don’t really see how’d they’d do that. You’d have to have either infinite building upgrades or infinite map size. Infinite building upgrades is not really feasible since it’ll be hard to communicate infinitely many upgrades to the player. Infinitely expanding maps would have be generated, which goes against the whole structure of the game. I think a “You win” score is fine, it just should be communicated on the leader boards.
If you layered this on top of Mini Metro, you'd have the world's jankiest city builder.

dude! i was talking about this the other day. i imagine using tab to switch between surface and underground and having to play both games at once and managing both systems for a super-difficult challenge!

I've heard that you can get an infinite score in this game because demand eventually stops growing, so I think these scores might be legit

While the roundabout is like a sorter the traffic lights are like a funnel it can control of how much gets thru to your round about and save traffic efficiency
Yeah, I like to use them like that and in places I can't fit a roundabout.

The 22k makes sense the map stops expanding eventually and if they sued rods to block stuff off way earlier they might not had as much to worry about Liek the last three that popped up for you and once it’s maxed expansion and everything is going well it could go for awhile

A new hotfix came out today that fixes the issue with roundabouts, so they should be more consistent
Maybe you can build straight 3-piece roads before every business?
I think some problems are caused by cars gridlocking inside business, expecially with 2business blocks and this road can be a buffer. Also it will allow you to change this road to a roundabout, if situation requires
This is very smart, I’m gonna try this.
I have been trying to keep at least one or two road tiles between businesses and my main throughways, but they do keep spawning directly on them.

When u get further into the game and the more and more tense it gets u start sounding like a sports announcer giving word for word of what's happening and I can't hate it and it's too funny now that it's in my head lol, love the content man
Some helpful tips: i like to block my roads to prevent a bldg spawning connected to it. Also, i only attach one house until more are needed! Because of this, it allows you more time to figure out how you want to divide the houses
Tyler, at 19:30 when looking for yellow houses, the few houses at the bottom had their cars parked the their driving for the whole game and were pretty useless. Thats where the motorway should have gone
Now your strategy is getting closer to “incredible”... Reworking the roads early in the game before there was too much pressure on anything was probably what set you on a path for this score.
When you blocked the space from spawning new shops late in the game I think that puts more stress on the existing shops. I watched another video where he blocked the whole screen after the first building spawned but even with one building and lots of houses feeding into it, it was getting a lot of pressure. When he finally cleared a space for a shop to spawn it went of like fireworks with a new shop and heaps of houses spawning.... But if the wrong colour spawns in the wrong place then it's much worse than the added pressure.
So probably a good strategy is to selectively spawn block so you don't get super distant shops?
@@zionj104 I've been experimenting with different ideas myself. It's hard to prevent the “shops” (large buildings) from spawning on the other side of the map from the “houses” (small ones) as the houses can spawn in any small gap. Identifying areas where you think a shop will be problematic and areas where you want roads to go through are possibly a good start. At least that way you can prevent crossroads of different colour cars early in the game and making sure it doesn't block your path to strategic points such as potential bridge crossings, as you progress... But im still struggling to get near the leader board. The one game where I felt like I was on track to do really well, I put a roundabout connecting to a bridge and didn't figure out that it's a bug in the game until to late - all traffic through the roundabout stopped. Usually the game prevents you from placing things in unusable locations.

It seems like roundabouts are great for places with not too much traffic but once their is a lot of traffic roundabouts get slow. That is probably where traffic lights would be better for late game and roundabouts are better for early game.

Hey Tyler I’ve been watching your videos for a while now, the number one for the Los Angeles map is 200k, I made it to Mexico City and got 100k on the map. I had to end the game myself it would of gone on forever.

traffic lights are good for a certain occasion. say you have one color going vertical and another color going horizontal. if theres a crossroads where the horizontal and vertical colors meet, then a traffic light would be very good to separate the two.
if something happens to distrupt that then the traffic lights become useless again

Wow! The first round made me laugghing becouse I'm living in Moscow and it's main roads are round we name rings (I don't how to name it on english but I can translate it and say that it's a long road making round). If you look on different maps of Moscow you will see rounds/rings (our metropolitan have rings too, but there are only two rings). I find this moment funny.

At around 11:30 I think on that right most round about, the road leading into it on the bottom left wasn't actually connected to the roundabout, but that's just speculation as I need to continue watching to see what happens
As someone who actually lives in Moscow I can confirm we have even more chaotic roads here.
I love that you can pause the game to make important decisions. Some of these "real-time" strategy games make you play in real time and it absolutely stresses me out. Being able to pause to take account of everything and restructure makes for a much more relaxing experience.
yeah its nice. And it doesnt ruin the experience at all, there is still a lot of tough planning that needs to be done so getting rid of the time aspect of it doesnt solve all the issues.
I keep on seeing people put a motorway directly on a thoroughfare and then getting aggravated that they can't put roundabouts or traffic lights on them.
From a spectators point of view? Pu a road tile off of where you want a motorway to connect! Only one "special tile" can exist in one grid. So of the motorway isn't ON a junction, the junction could still have a motorway as an input/output space, if it has road leading to/from it.
Basically, motorways and roundabouts can't share a tile, but separate them by a couple tiles and a roundabout could have a motorway feed it from a sole throughput.
I love you most of the varied people I watch, so I want you to have the leg up first.

Btw motorways and roundabouts are fasted than bridges or normal roads, if theres lots of traffic you can just put a motorway on top of a normal road, so there can be moar cars in that road, roundabouts are really good for organising stuff.

I know this video is some old months but one mistake I notice was you left the yellow building (the one struggling in the end) stay connected with the road to the white building without no reason, you should have separated long ago, the roundabout was slowing then down actually.
The gaps in top scores are all rng at a certain point the road system can be perfect and the game doesn't speed up or spawn so you can just walk away and let the score build and build and bulld.
Would love some more DorfRomantik if you have the time!
I think 1 and 2 on the leaderboard might be legit because the map reaches a max size so theoretically you could go for a very long time with minimal difficulty increase.

I think a traffic light might have been able to help that last gridlock you had
At 23:50, the yellow-white roundabout could have been demolished. The white path going over and above the yellow path, no need for them to cross there. That would have solved things without a motorway, even.
The centre blue-yellow roundabout could've been fixed earlier, but no longer at that point, by segregating the upper blues to the upper business, take a lot of traffic off the roundabout, and limting the yellows that could come from across the bridge.
That might actually be a good place for traffic lights, as the blue business would need prioritized traffic for all its business, while the yellow circle would've only needed a few cars from the bottom, mostly being fed from the yellows near it. If a roundabout gets clogged, it slows everyone down. If traffic lights get clogged, everyone at least gets to take turns, and a smaller traffic flows joining or crossing a large traffic flow is an ideal situation for lights.

This game is like a city planner's nightmare
I wanted to like this game, but the fact that cars pick a random mall / route instead of the shorters available route is a fundamental flaw which leads to you having to give every colour their own private paths...
Traffic lights slow things down during normal use but help alot when you start getting traffic
It's a very good game :)
The businesses in this game pay NO MIND to their target customers' ability to get there
