Same school of thought as you on those air stacks. I want my air filter enclosed to protect it and keep it cleaner. Even though it fit, I wish the height and width on the Red Beards filter was less. Still, it's a definite improvement over the original. Thanks for the in depth review.
I bought this (Red Beard) $ 63 filter kit for my new 620p and has black plastic component's. What a cumbersome 2 day task only to realize that this setup doesn't even fit inside the (sealed) air box cover? So, after.. hours of fitting and adjustments, the best end result is the air filter cover is bulged out on each side with an 1/8"gap after letting the filter relax overnight. Now.? I'm sad to say i didnt get what i paid for and the airbox centrifugal seal is plainly compromised plus the base backing plate to carburetor was to small had to be heated for installation so i didn't have too beat on a new saw carburetor with a hammer! Kit component's need to be scaled down a notch or so to fit this saw anyway! A 3/16"-1/4" reduction in overall filter cage and end cap diameters would remedy fitment & air issues. Still, I'll never get back the 2days of wasted time and aggravation plus the $63 to afford me such a non comforming downgrading timely experience! Use the o ring kit and original filters dont waste ur time and $ with this
Glad I saw this before I bought one. I just ordered the O-ring kit for the stock filter instead. If someone makes one out of stamped steel and a pleated filter, like a mini car air cleaner, that would probably be easier and less cumbersome.
Looking like a little 1/4-3/8” trimming off of the width of the foam to match the base tighter will make getting your back cover back on a little easier??? 100% correct on the not using motor oil or something similar instead of the proper foam filter oil on an airfilter! Filter oil is extremely clean and it doesn’t contain all the other additives that are beneficial in an engine but would have detrimental effects to a filter element. The old 4 in 1 or a light machine oil are clean enough and don’t contain the acidic detergent ingredients that a motor oil would contain but it doesn’t make much sense to not just use a proper spray filter oil and know that you are doing it the correct way. The spray can is definitely going to last you a good long time and it’s not extremely expensive and it’s definitely a big help in getting a nice light even coating on the filter material. Really great that you demonstrated that application...paying attention to your ends and then working it around with your hands to uniformly distribute the coating. That’s a very important step that so many people don’t understand the importance of. It’s definitely great to see that you now have a good working filter and the old system has been upgraded to perform correctly. Being out $50 bucks definitely would have burnt me up and had gotten the throttle’s up and the temperature rising! 😂😂😂. With the new system I’m curious if you’re going to see a little deviation on the tachometer??? Loved the “It’s not a four barrel!”.... she’s definitely breathing easy now!
I may be in come gen 3. Still too many kinks need working out. Housing base and cover need to be made of stamped for glass filled nylon, and there is no reason for it to take up THAT much room. The base also needs to be retained via stud or longer carb screws, not just the filter cover plate. Especially for the price.
I just got my hands on a 600p. My side cover is plastic with no holes for felling dogs except the inner. I bought west coast saws 3 point felling dogs and attached the inside one only. Do you know which clutch cover i can pit on so i can install outer dogs? Or can i attach the dogs to the plstic cover? What are your thoughts? I want the air filter that yu have as well but everyone says they are not in stock. Would like a full wrap handle but its states that it wouldnt work on early model cs600?

That new set up looks badass! Gonna have to get one for my 590!

It's a pain to clean each time
@@Broddi169 I bet! Clean with the special cleaner, rinse, dry, and finally oil it! I like take it off, blow it or throw it way better!
@@wheelstandr agreed
Pull the choke out and it will fit correctly. It makes the cover go on factory filter easier too
No. It's just to big
Yeah, the choke being pulled helps with cover. But, has nothing to do with the filter not fitting
@joelhockett8137 correct
I gotta get one of those, seems better than the original air filter
@@dentondunn4346 I have 1 slightly used red beard kit off my 620p

Appreciate it bro
He needs to make a cage that will work with the echo element. The echo element is no where near as tall.
Agreed

So, does the saw breath any better? Is there any noticeable gain? $50 for what? Bunko, IMHO. 😆
I know what's holding it, but you will get it.
Lol you are a few years late
I use only Uni foam filter oil.
Great vid. Thanks for the info.
You bet bro
To get that cover on you have to pull the choke lever out
Can't find any videos on your channel.
Did you have to do any carb adjustment when you used this filter ?
Yes
Thank you for this video. You just saved me $50! I think this design could have been improved by making it smaller and not as tall.
I have the oem filter. I thought it was sketch not having a rubber seal but idk if this is worth the effort.
Agreed
The stock filter is trash for sure im gonna have to grab one of these is a tune needed afterwards?
I have one of these filter kits slightly used. Make offer
Thank you for the video

620 cover fits
@@Broddi169 the adjustment screw aize does not matter?
Most 620 parts all fit the 590 n 600. The early model 600p had a nylon/ plastic handle before going aluminum. The 590 is still nylon.
I've run 620 covers on the 600p.
Will this fit a shindaiwa 600sx?
Yes
My filter setup on my 620p looks way different than yours….came from factory with a one piece filter
Should pop apart

Will this fit a new 620P?
Yes
@@Broddi169 so do you prefer this setup or would you recommend sticking with the stock filter

$50 though
Stock filter works as well

Where to buy this filter?
Red Beard Saws, apparently Saw Suppliers is no longer selling them. I don't see it listed on their site any more.
Probably a good thing
I bought the first version. Never liked it. A waste of $50.00
I'm not running them anymore.
