I think the current build of the game has a more complex geometry in general, but somehow the beta still looked more lived on, more interactive in a way.
yeah thats because it was full on rails.
@@krat0skrat0s69 ^
I think there are more NPCs walking along and around in the beta, whilst the current one is less live in terms of 'living'
the E3 demo graphics and color looks more realistic actually, but the current build looks fancier and more beautiful
after effects, hard to capture the same level of atmosphere in an actual game
Current version has better graphics but beta has better atmosphere.
Yeah, and that's what suckered us in. In hindsight it really looked too good to be true...
@@InfiniteDarkMass it really wasnt all that too good to be true, you weren't suckered in that long of a development cycle youd expect it to be more alive than the witcher 3.
It ended up being way way below the witcher 3, it was just shitty development full of managers who's passion is video games but really have no business being there.
True the recant version has a purple hue look to it the demo was darker
I don't know where to write it to maybe catch someones attention to read it so I will comment here - I am now almost 20 hours into playing the game again, this time with Overdrive ON, and I decided to turn it off. There is so many graphical bugs/artifacts/bluriness that comes with it that I cannot stand it anymore, RT Psycho makes the game look much better, sharper and more precize to me. I don't even care to watch the whole video here as I already played it multiple hours but you can see yourself what happens from the 00:54 in this video with the fence. I thought initially that such things are made by DLSS or Frame Generation, but no, such things are gone if you turn the Overdrive OFF. There are many surfaces that make the game look terrible with Overdrive. On every gold surface (and there is many such surfaces in game) many blue pixels appear out of nowhere, making it look broken. Light bounces on many other surfaces make them look blurry, which makes my 4K resolution look like 720p in certain places. It's so terrible overall compared to the regular RT Psycho that I really got enough. Which is a pity, because I was waiting to replay the game 2+ years and thought that RT Overdrive change is a good opportunity to do so, but nope, if you had similar hopes, just skip it, maybe Phantom Liberty will bring a new life to it. Or if they finally add NG+.
I just clicked through to check if there is more examples of broken graphic with Overdrive ON but apparently in these scenes I can not spot that many, but in 8:55 you can see on Vic's back the white pixels/bounces that for sure shouldn't be there. And in many scenes there are whole surfaces covered with the issue like that. And not just for the second, but the whole time - you look on a scene that looks like a blurry shit while on RT Psycho it looks just right and beautiful. I believe the devs are well aware of those issues and that's why it took them so long to release the Overdrive feature and they simply decided to label it with wording "technological preview". I am just surprise that I didn't see people complaining about it, but I believe the case is that not so many have 4090 to actually play it. Yet I am surprise that no reviewer highlighted those issues.
It's mind-boggling, I seriously can't decide a winner here. Both have things that just aren't present with each other. The 2018 Demo has the in-world ads and feel a lot more dynamic and has some really nice shadows.. while overdrive has some damn good global illumination and better fog.
I still think it doesn't capture the same awe the demo had but it's still a great achievement.
Gameplay will never capture the same awe when you play it because you control the camera and your own camera movements will never be cinematic (because you are focused on gameplay)
Overdrive is well and truly above and beyond every single promo material of this game till date. It's absolutely insane
@@goochipoochie On a technical level, yes? But it should be noted that the 2018 demo is greatly enhanced by it's presentation. Some of it's design is still impressive by comparison.
Some scenes are actually benefited from not using Overdrive. Like Dex in his car or the sun cast in the mega building, even the exiting scene. I'm not sure what's being used in that case but it's specific to that demo and doesn't show up in the game with or without overdrive.
The tech behind Overdrive is great but the visual results vary between versions. Sometimes the demo is better, sometimes overdrive is. One is curated, the other is dynamic, and in a lot of the cases the curated result will look better because it was meant to in that specific situation.
There's no winner here, the demo was fake gameplay, and overdrive mode for now it's just possible on high end Nvidia GPUs.
@@Katsuchiyo stop complaining
the demo wasn't even a game, it was completely hard coded for all the decisions they made. it was like the old wild west movie sets, just a bunch of facades. then when it came time to make the actual game, they couldn't use hardly any of the demo shit except a lot of art/sound assets. the devs themselves said they wasted a ton of time shitting out that demo to make it in time for e3. people who've looked at the source code that got leaked confirmed it as well. when reality hit and they had to make a AAA open world rpg in under 3 years they had to scrap most of their ideas. people blame covid, but the game was supposed to have been mostly dev complete by the time covid hit. a bunch of cdpr lies.
5:45 never seen anyone carry stuff like this in the game - looks pretty great =) I like how the demo is way less "wet" and there is lot less lightsources. It is more compact and dusty and more readable overall. I understand all that added was to show off brand new RTX tech - but still remo artdirection is strong!
@@Dez0rdre Yeah it almost always is. Even my favorite half-life 2 had entirely fake gameplay demo back in E32003. However I am talking art direction. - The way things are made to look. It seems obvious that the demo had different art direction, and later in the dev when they decided to implement RTX and not just as a aftertought - I remember art director of CDPR mentioning RTX as being very important part of the visuals - then they probably added more reflective surfaces and more light sources to really lean in to the feature. Leaving the dusty, desaturated look behind.
@@DanielTejnicky Oh yeah, agree with you ! I prefer the art direction of the demo too. Imagine, E3 2018 art direction + RT Overdrive !! 😱🤩
Same thing with the guy on the scooter 0:02. I've never seen anything like this in the game.
@@Dez0rdre and? The look is totally achievable on current hardware
Yeah the demo pedestrian were a lot more complex. It would probably be a big hit on performance. First thing I noticed was the guy on scooter at the beginning.
The lack of atmospheric fog in the current game always bothers me

It looks too pretty
are you blind?
@@gozutheDJ Nope. Are you? 12:42
@@ruok-l5t there is plenty of atmospheric fog in the game. it depends on time of day, location and the weather
Graphics are subjective which looks better. But the demo definetly still looks more alive in terms of the amount of npcs, and also they are actually doing something in the demo not just standing around
The 2018 demo has a LOT of volumetrics in the environment. These are simply cubes that generate foglike appearances, but added with path / ray tracing, it can eat up a lot of processing power. That's the only big difference between the 2018 demo and the current version.
And there are more people in some places.
you are right, in the game the atmosphere looks too clean, that would be the next thing to add
bro look at the elevators..the models seem to have more polygons as well wtf are yall not seeing....
@@ndalazdayz Same with the non-story, random NPCs. They models looks more detailed in the demo.
Corpo's hair in the demo looks way better.
The artstyle of the demo rly gives off that Cyberpunk dystopian future atmosphere. The Overdrive mode just looks realistic.
I wish graphics improvements aren't the only thing being focused on too much in games but also actually good gameplay and releasing a complete game at launch.
then blame the economic system that prioritises safe ROIs over fully realised products, not the devs deathmarching for months on end to provide you at least a semblance of an ambitious product that gets screwed over by suits getting skittish over their investments.

The overdrive mode is truly mind blowing
They should've focused on enhancing the content/refining it even further than using it as a vehicle to promote Nvida/Intel

@@Akumalmss 2,5 years ain't enough to bring some content, huh? What's wrong with u fanboys?
the E3 demo feels more alive and dynamic with great atmosphere, while the current retail looks more next-gen from the pathtraced rendering... both are amazing imo
Overdrive could use some of that sweet volumetric fog to match the atmosphere of the Demo
But the demo could use more reflections and better ambient occlusion
The demo will always hold a special place in my heart
Pathtracing is great tech, but it's brute-force solution. The artistic vision isn't fully aligned with the tech and the comparison shows that. I think shadows are too dark in the new version, and the bounce light is too bright. Not very nuanced.
None of what you say is true. How do you know it's a brute force solution? Also, it's not too dark at all. A lot of scenes are actually brighter with better visibility because the bounce lights go up exponentially and things in shadows are dark like normal with a little more contrast to them BUT you can see the details. IO actually have overdrive and tested it and it is absolutely nothing like what you're trying to engender.
@@eddiek8179don't get me wrong. I think the tech is definitely doing something impossible before and has huge potential. But the application can of course be improved so that it can look even better to have a generational leap that is not present in the comparison in my opinion.
For example scene with Dexter in the car. It is sunny daytime, if you take a photo in real life, the car interior wouldn't be so dark.
@@weiwenh5248 You think that path tracing with almost infinite light bounces and global illumination in real time while keeping the FPS reasonable and playable is not a generational leap ? Really now? All of that and more is present in the overdrive version which I have already tried. If you take a photo of a person in a car with sunny backlight, they will be silhouetted. Most scenes in a car with a strong light behind the person will create that effect. You can overcome that by changing the the focus type and pan, adding extra light in the car or playing with the aperture but almost every case, it will generate a silhouette. In any case, whatever is shown does not truly represent the fidelity of the graphic in game. That Dexter scene is more than fine and pretty realistic and visible. This video does not do it justice.
@@eddiek8179 The Dexter scene looks much more realistic and atmospheric in overdrive to be fair.
In general overdrive does provide more "nuance"(OP). More depth with the shadow gradation etc.
Variance has to always be considered when dealing with dynamic things. Which people rarely do.
Ofc. PT isn't quite perfect yet, but it is generally drastically better than the rasterization of base game. (which they could have done significantly better tbf)
Tho in a hardware sense it is kind of "brute force". Very raw power dependent and less care for optimizations, gotta push new cards constantly if they want to reach their insane growth aspirations for every year. Typical for any corp i suppose. Want exponential growth every year, forever.
@@weiwenh5248 yeah i get you. Since cyberpunk was not made with ray tracing or path tracing in mind, the artist's original intent was hand made rasterized lighting and very specific. So some scenes oddly lit although more realistic
The 2018 demo has better atmosphere. It's all fake, but the city feels more lived in with more ads, more NPCs, more vehicles, and a greatest sense of "intractability." The Overdrive mode looks head and shoulders better, but the gameplay simply isnt there
I still like the 2018 demo, I don't know why but it looks great to me
Because due to the more hazy lighting and not so saturated colors, it looks more serious. The release version looks kind of poignant to me.
It was made to look likeable,it was a part of the scam
Overdrive is amazing, but I just miss the 'interactive-ness' and those little UI elements with the world from the 2018 demo. Shame they didn't keep those small touches in, or at least give us the option to turn them on and off.
Finally a legitimate critic in those comments !
THIS, its one of my biggest disappointments since its release. Really wanted some of those nice interactiveness the demo had. such potential
mods flesh it out, but yeah, besides the point.
3:45 You mean this kind of atmosphere on the right? The demo is just raster here, and boy, it's a flat one. When talking about adding touches to the environment at the current level of graphics, it would take half a year in the Red Engine. With all decision-making, all art designs, all development and integration, and all QA processes. It's like adding two more layers of physics and interactions. And remember: each advertisement fits vertical and horizontal banners/screens. Each is separate advertising action with holographic or posters or radio adv.
That interactivity never existed, the 2018 demo was a scripted on rails experience masquerading as gameplay.
I feel like the demo has a more roleplay/realistic feel to it vs the current version.
The 2018 version, is the cyberpunk that I wanted to played. Even with the fancy graphics the 2018 still looks much more realistic.
CDPR went cyberpsycho when they got Keanu onboard. The whole story and role-playing aspect went out the window, and instead we just got a Witcher 3 game with cringey dialogue.
Man you can’t beat that beta. I’d take atmosphere over graphics any day.
Man, the 2018 demo is still incredible, I don't know what they did there that it looks really good, there is something to it that seems to be missing to this day in the live version, even with Overdrive, which is amazing imo, but even without it, the beta had something, I wonder if CDPR did editing or I curated it somehow, the atmosphere looks more dense.
the NPCs all seem to move better in the 2018 demo. there's a naturalness to their animation that isn't quite there in the released version
@@Andrew-wb2zq ok no that’s bullshit and you know it dude
They spent 6 months on making a 48 minutes on rails demo, of course it’s more polished than the 40 hours game they made in 4 years. They have 8x more time for 50x more content that isn’t on rails.
It's that first impression that's all , its Iike hearing a demo for a song and then you usually always like it's quirks and the way it was before once the fully produced version comes out
@@melcorchancla9431 Man you people are so demented in your delusions, in order to complain and hate endlessly.
Current version is the same content as in the demo, only far more polished with a bunch of extra details. And it has been for a long time. As it has been graphically superior for a long time as well.
Actual game has been superior to that demo for a very long time.
I simply love the hud of the beta. Looks way more cyberpunk
The 2018 version STILL looks more 'lively' then the current.... also would be nice to know what the original story was before Keenu was brought in.
Bet it was way better than the current one.
@@SignalFlowers it wasnt lmfao
This! To this day it's one of my biggest gripes with the game is that I just don't care about the story! V Basically the player isn't the main character in the story, Johnny is! I have nothing against Reeves but, why make the player character just a vehicle for Johnny?
It might have worked if the whole chip fiasco was condensed into an epilogue. Most other games have the good sense if they're going to kill off the player character to do it near the end of the game. Red Dead 2 is a good example. You get hours of story and enjoying yourself and then Arthur gets seriously ill, you have a few hours coping with and tying up loose ends. You don't play the whole fucking game as someone who's dying trying to save their life...
@@Jimmer93Phantom Liberty gives me hope that CDPR can make a great story again, it's almost like a slice of what I initially thought the game was going to feel like from the trailers/demo. Dogtown feels alive and the characters in it are so interesting with a great story as well, even NPCs. hopefully they learn from their mistakes and the sequel blows 2077 out of the water from day 1
The new build overall looks better, but the lighting is more cooler in the demo.
also the models look more realistic on the DEMO as well...somehow
Wow this scene at 3:26 looks entirely different with Path Tracing
The lightning in the demo was so strange in that scene ! Not very logicall
the thing is, while the "correct" one is the overdrive, i feel like it doesn't make any sense, the whole scenes was recorded at day time, and cars don't look that dark with so much light coming through the window@@ConcreteAdvisory
@@NicolasSilvaVasault This is one of the issues with OD it seems, it's too dark inside buildings, especially when it comes to how shadows are cast on faces. The human eye in real life would not perceive that scene as anywhere near as dark as that! In fact, it'd probably look more like 2018 in real life. Which is a particularly big issue when everything is first person, supposedly seeing through the eyes of the character.
would love to see this but overdrive rtx being used in conjunction with the 2018 demo reshade and hud mods
5 years later, were almost there boys!

Shadow on the fog is breathtaking
Everytime i watch the 2018 Demo something inside of me dies bc the game we got is so much different even if looks the same, but the build they had 2018 was alot different from the game that launched, I'd give alot to try out the 2018 build or even a earlier one
Just look the at the elevator in the beginning, they seemingly planed to fill out the whole mega building with a parking level, the service and apartments as they r ingame, but also a proper lobby and I can bet even more, just imagine what other plans have been rooted out Bc the map and engine couldnt handle it, I rly hope the next cyberpunk game based on ue5 will give us what cdpr wanted us to have
@@Urk3X I'm with you on this one.
Its the wokeness that it got infected from 2019 onwards. Actually heard that development game restarted around 2019 and the 2018 was just a proof of concept/ a few months work of showing.

Rewatching the 2018 demo made me realize CDPR totally made a 2012 Watch Dogs 1 Ubisoft move here! Demo looks astonishin, but the release was another story lol
Perfect example of Atmosphere being more important than Graphics
yeah, the demo looks dull and claylike with those colors.
edit: nevermind lmao, I thought ur comment is about how the current version is better. Because honestly, maybe because I played the game a lot, so seeing the demo again kinda feels uncanny and just weird. The one with Dex for example, I like it when it's all dark when meeting dex with hard lights coming through than feeling like you're in a photostudio because it gives Dex that mysterious (he's cool but also what's his motive kind of thing) character feeling and not the "hey look, Dex is a cool dude" kind of introduction. Some of the details aren't even there, even when in the demo there are more NPC and their variants.
another edit: also, a perfect example of having lots of NPCs and more "lively" but fails is Assassin's Creed Mirage.
The Demo is a prime example of "less is more."
Yep
Nope. It actually has more things going on compared to the current version. RT overdrive is a visual feature that simulates realistic lighting using path tracing and has nothing to do with game elements.
@@Navin4061 I think he was probably referring to texture quality.
Something about the lighting in the demo looked better in bright areas but the new version with the dark shadows and stuff looks way better.
The older one has
- More bloom
- Better subsurface scattering (light bouncing inside skin)
- More volumetric fog
Thats pretty much it tho
More NPCs
Better smoothing too.
Okay I actually really like where the game is right now. It’s in a good place and is one of my fav games I’ve ever played. But certain things you can definitely see had to be scaled back, LIKE LOOK AT THE ELEVATOR shit was gonna have like 6 floors in the Mega buildings. You can see the scope they were trying to go for. Hopefully we will get a sequel that tries to be what everyone thought it was gonna be.
Agreed. There are some things which have been down scaled but overall I prefer the atmosphere and graphics of the current state. I think there needed to be more work down on Night City. But you are totally right some stuff just wouldn't be realistic without owning a $5K gaming pc...
Well, the next one is probably be made in Unreal, so maybe it's easier to make for them. They're gonna make Witcher 4 first.
@@Ecliptor. if it’s a unreal engine 5 game it’s fs not gonna be on this console gen(I’m a series x player) and if that’s the case I’ll be sad :( look at the state of remnant 2. Seems like unreal 5 is taxing on systems.
@@ashtondillard6906 They're only starting witcher 4 development, then potential dlcs for it. The next Cyberpunk is not gonna happen for a big while. I'd say at least 5 years from now. And 10 years would be a more realistic guess, imo.
I see Witcher 4 as a panic button as they need to recover from their initial Cyberpunk debacle. And, apparently, Witcher 4 is being developed in Unreal 5 as well.
Less NPC is the first thing I notice in the Overdrive mode
Proof that lighting and atmosphere is more important than texture quality and resolution
The demo still feels more "cyberpunk" to me, from what little there actually is.
the demo had a denser mood, a heavier atmosphere, and cooler colors which more suited the Cyberpunk genre.
The worst thing is, almost everything was possible even in non-RTX version, but CD Project just decided to drop artistic approach and attention to details for very performance heavy raytracing scenes additions.
totally agree with you.
no no its not. youd need RT, PT, and RC + DLSS/DLAA to mnake that happen. i dont think you understand how complex of a game 2077 is
@@blvckl0tcs750 You can make your own game as complex as possible and burn you PC and you entire house with overheating RTX 4090 and i9 and it's still possible that another non-RT game with baked lightning and SSR would look better than yours, just because better programmers, artists and designers working on it. With all its "complexity" CP2077 has some lightning and shading issues that makes it look worse than GTA 4 in some scenes, even with Path Tracing. So leave that "nooo you don't understand our game is so next-gen" to Nvidia marketing department, CDPR or Todd Howard with his recent "complex next-gen 30 fps+FSR masterpiece".
@@J0rdan912 only it's not a lighting and shading issue, it's something you can quite literally adjust in setting and furthermore address with mods. Also there's nothing really wrong with it considering Ray Reconstruction + 2.0 makes the game look phenomenally better than even the version comparison here. And what voids you comment even more is the fact a lot of what 2077 in it's current state is now looks better still.
@@blvckl0tcs750 Yeah, or finish and "adjust" your game properly so it's not going to look like PS3 game at times or heavily relying on RT and PT, or mods, to look like properly designed and shaded game. This is what I was talking about. Ray tracing in any form is a final touch, not a crutch with 2-3 times performance cost. We already seen some horrible examples in UE5 recent games with bad flat lightning that even Nanite can't fix and it runs worse than CP2077 on ultra. Is that your definition of "complex modern games"? Everything should be running on RTX 4090 with DLSS 3 and fixed by mods and community?
People can go back and forth on this endlessly, but the thing is, the latter one just is better in terms of shading and coloring. There's no contest there. - Whether the STYLE of one or the other is better... that just comes down to how they use it and preference. - Because just because they use (more) ray-tracing for the latter, doesn't mean they can't make it look the same as the former. - That's not what that means, even though a lot of people seem to think it MUST be different. - There are simply differences either because it's by design or because it's incidental. And there's also no point in trying to MAKE it look the same as the older version.
Sounds like a cope.
The final version has less NPC's and less dymanic advertisements and billboards, which makes the world feel less alive with less movement.
The shading and colours of the game was never the issue.
@@AK-lx1cr this is a settings thing. bro most likely has crowd setting turned down to keep his pc from blowing up.

It's a hit or miss. Sometimes in some areas the demo looks better, whether it's the lighting, crowd density or something else- sometimes it's the other way around.
True especially the thumbnail scene they are very different but both work well
The 2018 demo was without HDR and Raytracing. Implementing these technologies haphazardly has made Cyberpunk 2077 look more plastic like and slightly cartoonish.

Demo has this video processing cinematic look that’s absent from recording gameplay alone
The beta feels way better, there's more interaction to the environment and the background, you can notice a lot of things happening in the beta, like elevators moving, more npcs interactions etc, on the actual gameplay, a lot of these things are just static, feels kinda fake
Ironic considering the demo is the fake one

People often forget that sharper doesn't equal more realistic or immersive
Exactly!
I love the graphic look of the E3 demo.
can anyone explain why the lighting for the glasses at 4:41 is wrong even after it's being pathtraced...?
I understand a lot significant factors over development most notably the lighting systems and npc behaviour. But these comparison videos always make me wonder why they change a lot of the smaller creative decisions in the final product. All the small design touches that add upto a nicer presentation but removed in the final product almost always made to look more bland.
Also yeah, the dust and atmospheric fog was better in the demo too.
One thing the updated build looks mind blowing in the wide panoramic city shots, thousands of hours of work poured in.
overdrive looks so much better. the demo had everything perfectly lined up that's currently in the game.
I like the demo's character models alot more...
The 2018 demo looked way better in my opinion. Current game still does not look as good and as dynamic. NPCs also look like plastic, the lighting and atmosphere has been nerfed and is still not holding up to expectations.
Exactly what i think, but kids happy with💩 and lies from CDPR
Should have tried to match the FOV setting of the demo. Otherwise, great job. Interesting to see the differences.
Demo looks more realistic for Cyberpunk style. Also, that Red UI looks much more realistic for Cyberpunk and fits much better, then new one...
The demo is way better, They lied to us and did the bait and switch. Its not even close... you can shoot out of the car while driving it its a feature not even in the game till this day.

dark environnements are so much better with overdrive, but i find the colors and the feeling has changed quite a bit compared to the demo and sometimes i would love them to be mixed.
The biggest disapointment was the pedestrian walk that was crowed on demo and totally empty on the current version :(
it breaks the immersivity and it feels like a lie
I think the Op turned the crowd setting to low.
A huge difference everyone is missing which makes the beta footage different is that it's running in 30 fps and the current footage is in 60 fps. It's stupid small difference but can make it "look" more cinematic.
Now we can see more reflections and shadows for a higher frame rate cost.
Good that's why I paid a serious buck for my pc lol
Path tracing isn't just reflections and shadows. It's literally all colour and lighting. Every bit of lighting is different.
The NPC variation is a lot better in the Demo.
Wow the demo still looks better in a lot of ways
No.
@@oktusprime3637 What do you mean no? Overdrive is great but its just a fault in the way the lighting is done in the final release that keeps it from looking as good in some scenes. At 0:13, look at how the sun shines through in the demo and makes the whole area look much more real. Same with 2:30, the lighting is just much better
Ratio
@@gutar5675 The lighting is worse in the demo. Those differences you pointed out are mainly due to the different time of day each version was set at.
RTX Overdrive is using many calculations to give the most realistic lighting possible in any scenario. Even if the old traditional lighting somehow looks better to you, it's still way behind compared to overdrive in terms of how it would actually look in the real world. Overdrive, as shown, bounces light and casts shadow in a much more realistic way.
@@gutar5675 Demo just has softer image and more fog, so it looks more atmospheric, but lighting is more accurate in overdrive.
the beta still looks fucking good loool victor's mechanic finger opening to remove V eye just proves a lot of work that was removed D: but hey im happy that they are still working in the game.
Overdrive looks fantastic, but I like the atmosphere in the old demo. Also path-tracing is another brute-force, lazy stuff. Sure, looks amazing! But also doesn't give artistic freedom as it aims for realism, plus a performance hog while tons of things can be faked and baked to make a fantastic art style and wonderful visuals and atmosphere. Too many things got automated, forcing GPUs to do the very heavy work. When tech was more restricted, artists worked a lot to compensate these limitations and sometimes the result was mind-blowing and performance friendly.
I freakin' love the game and its world, but I feel like, they went for visuals way too much and sacrificed a lot when it comes to interactivity, population density and performance. I mean, it's true backwards too. They sacrificed population density and many other things to make the game run better at somewhat better graphics. I would have preferred a more lively, more interactive Night City. But still, a pretty damn good game.
It's not brute-force. Check out two minute papers on youtube here, where he covers all of the fancy algorithms to do raytracing.
The algorithms are being more optimized every year (thanks to fancy math and denoising via neural networks), the software is getting better, and the hardware is getting more powerful every year with more specialized accelerators onboard. Eventually you'll be able to run this kind of raytracing on a handheld years from now, not the same quality but good enough for a handheld.
It's not brute-force but I'll agree that it's still very expensive.
Difference is one is marketing material and the other one requires a RTX 4090 to run
Lol at these people saying the demo looks better. It's not even close. The overdrive mode shits all over it.
nope, this just proves that RT does little to the visuals. Instead of losing so much performance, it would be better that they invested that for FAR better textures, models, and everything else that would be ACTUALLY visibly BETTER!
@@AdiiS cope.
@@AdiiS Pierre Sprey-esque take
@@waffuzera cope what dude, I have a 4090 and I have the game on steam, the difference is minimal at best while cuttin' the performance more than 50% you braindead clown. Now go back to your gtx560ti
None of these people that are hating have even played Overdrive mode or cyberpunk lmao. They get their information from watching videos and either don't own the game or haven't played it recently.
I prefer the original in the driving scene with the guy in the car, it's way too dark and you miss out on the details of the character
2018 demo reminds me of the time when reviewers can't use their in-game footage cus they knew it wont be delivering the same experience.
I noticed at 15:30 that her realistic face so far amazing in demo than overdrive.
Exactly
I prefer color grading in DEMO. Retail with OVERDRIVE still looks too oversaturated with too high contrast.
Literally overdoned and overdosed.)
6:50 like, holy shit old demo is better and also have decent RT (Overdrive is overdoned lamp lighting)
12:50 demo looks way better omg
@@ZA-7 Lmao give you some lower quality footage with fog and the bois go crazy.
It's a classic technique to give illusion for realism. Muddy, lower res footage. "OMG Looks amazing!!"
Leaves a lot to the imagination.
Not so great when you actually play it rather than watching a low res, poorly encoded video tho
There's mods that bring back the UI and attempt to restore the lighting from the beta
The atmosphere and immersion are better in the 2018 DEMO, the OVERDRIVE version made things darker and more boring. A pity that this game became a showcase for the marketing of Nvidia's new GPUs.
Most people see a lack of ambient occlusion and the slight 'glow' everything has in a poorly rasterized lighting system to be a bad thing. If you find it exciting more power to you. RT overdrive's more accurate lighting system that respects material type in diffused reflections and properly shadows environments in respect to bounce lighting with natural looking gradients is what I would call a step up in atmosphere and quality, but I guess haters will hate since apparently it is something Nvidia is spearheading.
Agree, with RT overdrive the game lost more immersion, really such a reality is not so pleasing to the eye. It's a shame the developers are wasting time with a technology that even the RTX 4090 doesn't run stably without using fake 4k and fake FPS, it's sad to see the level that the PC gamer has reached.
I get everyone's desire to see that level of atmosphere in the game, but people need to realize that demos are builds of whatever current version during development made specifically to be pretty and more often than not - better looking than what the game engine is actually capable of (remember Watch Dogs???). There are a lot of smoke effects and lighting details that were obviously tweaked to give the visuals that specific feel. They take the small environments that the demo takes part in, and they make changes specifically in those places. For example, @3:10, the green water tank thing on the left, it casts a large green light in the tube and there is one or more ambient lights underneath it, in the ray pathing version there is still a green, but during nighttime it becomes more obvious. I think the best example really is to compare the world lighting with the current version, even the normal non-RT version. The tone and warmth are different and the bounce lighting in certain areas is obviously completely different, again, this is hand crafted - hard baked, it'd be nice if this attention was dedicated to every nook and crany in the game, but it'll never be, because it is too massive of a map.
But with that said, the changes they made to the UI design weren't the best. The green outline and interactive holograph things are really neat, and the stuff we have now is too "gamey" I think for most people's taste. Too much green and red filtering. The history of this game's development isn't that pretty, so obviously the creative vision of the game changed hands a lot.
12:24 is a prove that demo was better but very far, cooler, better design, better collors, more original and feels awesome
I’m so confused, overdrive looks about a thousand times better
I dont know what, but 2018 Demo stills look better (no only NPCs density)
I mean, RT Overdrive its amazing, but 2018 demo has something, maybe its color palette or not, but has something "Special"
That feeling when the 2018 demo looks so much better than the "hyper ultra mega Overdrive" in both lighting and character animations in most scenarios.
CDPR knows how to sell a lie. They did it with the Witcher 3 VGX 2013 trailer too.
The overdrive looks better - clearly. The fact that you cannot understand why the Demo looks good as it is - is due to the fact it is on rails is pretty telling. It's not real time with pre-rendered elements. There's so much going on with the overdrive but you needed to stick to your prejudiced narrative.
How to sell a lie? You people really dont see "work in progress, does not represent the final look" banner at the top of the screen in whole demo?
@@juu226 That's because the narrative consumes them to extent the lies are theirs.
@@eddiek8179 CDPR literally had to make a public apology and got sued by their investors, they lied about the quality and features in the game. That’s a literal fact lmao.
@@SP7000SP Stop conflating two different issues as the same thing. We're talking about the demo here compared with the overdrive, doofus. What you're talking about has nothing to do with graphic fidelity but many unfinished elements in the game because they were rushed to release it. And they deservedly got slated for it BUT that has nothing to do with this. Also, most of the legal situation was their release with PS5 and the like because it was really broken. That's a real disingenuous move there by you. The demo, as mentioned, states that there will be differences with the released version and since we're talking directly and specifically about the differences in graphic quality between the demo and overdrive version - so whatever you said has no relevance to the matter because that's not the topic. But thanks for playing. Everyone's talking about the quality of water between two rivers and you're over there talking that one of the river got flooded in the past.
demo looks more like in movie, I like that too.
i prefer the demo by a lot, sure the graphics have improve, but i love that the demo contains almost all the promises made by CDProjekt
Demo is nostalgic but its nowhere near as nice as the release, especially on OD
i think the issue is that not everything has to be shiny
Color palette of old version is better than new one, also old demo contains more variety of npcs and number scale compared to new one
hes got crowd settings low. also the coloring can easily be adjusted
It's kinda insane and funny how this game slowly starting to Graphically look if not better than how it's advertised on that 2018 demo
which kinda tells me maybe the demo was running with an experimental ray traced setting but CDPR decided to scrap it for a while to work further cus they were worried it would cause massive performance issues on launch if they released in that state.....how ironic.
Ahhhh if only Ubisoft bothered their lazy butt to give Watch Dogs a similar treatment..That game would have looked Spectacular if it gotten Ray Tracing.
Nah, that didn't look raytraced, there are mods that restore the vast majority of that look.
As for Watch_Dogs, they could have had that level of detail, it was nerfed to put it mostly on par with consoles, just to please them.
Sorry but the demo still looks way better than the final product
забавный факт, звук из овердрайва создаёт атмосферу демке)
2018 demo, the game without Johnny Reeves and the whole boring chip storyline. Ah man, would've loved that game. Not that Cyberpunk now is bad after so many fixes and updates but without mods it still feels like it's lacking many things. I'm in the minority who dislikes the main story, but I just don't think it's that great.
Anyway, good comparison video. It's really cool to see what they've done with the new update. I hope the mistakes made with Cyberpunk 2077 don't get made with Orion when it eventually comes out years from now.
even mods can't really fix it, they are too limited compared to bethesda games mods
i actually still wanna play the demo version
The 2018 version is way better because it had more animations, better tones calibration and better detailled characters models. They have killed all the original vibe by downgrading it for old gen consoles and by adding too much colors everywhere.
Nope. Overdrive looks better.
Overdrive is pretty much better in every way possible... But I still feel like game should be a little darker in some areas, that's what makes Demo look better in some scenarios, just a matter of adjusting contrast/brightness
The Demo build is much better. It's weird I couldn't decide but the Demo was the one I fell in love with at the time. Same thing with NMS, the E3 of 2013 video of NMS was what made me fall in love with an otherwise disastrous game. Many updates since then and it's good but not at all what they sold me on the first time I saw the game trailer.
The beta 2018 looks great, I like it more than new 'overdrive nextgen superpuper-pathtracing 2023'
Wow what an improvement 2023 is over 2018.
But why is the city still empty?
It's not for me
He probably set the population density to low; it's obvious from the part right after Tom's diner which is usually packed with NPCs but is completely empty here
