Yao was legit. As far as guys that size he’s probably the best one (we’ll see where Wemby ends up) but Yao’s footwork and touch around the rim was so smooth. I’ll never forget rookie Yao giving prime Shaq problems

Well he said in another interview, not an American one obviously, that his coach warned him about this American kid, Tyson Chandler, who has a big chance to be a good player in NBA before one of the games. Yao played the game then he was like, yeah I think I should go to NBA.
Basketball is the only sport where being tall is basically all you need to think "i can play this professionally." It's like someone really fast thinking "I can play soccer professionally." One of the easiest sports to play.
True story I rode my bicycle across China. I stayed with a young lady who’s name was one letter different from Yao Ming. So we are in her house talking and she says “Do u know my name?” I said yes You are Yao Ming. She screamed at me “No I don’t play basketball u idiot.” We laughed a good long time.
He’s not just height it definitely helps but Yao definitely could ball dang injuries.

I believe Yao learned English by ear just like kids learn to speak. He speaks better than people who learn English from school.
And he has bad hearing on top of that 🤷🏽♀️

Growing to 7’5” might give you an idea you can play in the NBA.

Tall doesn't mean you're automatically bound to play in the NBA tall doesn't mean good at basketball, There's shorter players and there good too
