I took about 30 pages of notes for my anatomy final. I watched your videos while reading over my notes as a review & let me tell you how much I appreciate your videos! I watched the ear, nose & eye lectures and I'm pretty sure your videos were the only reason I passed my final. My only regret is not watching your videos starting from the beginning of the semester! THANK YOU SO MUCH!
The outer ear 👂🏼 is provided with structure to allow to remain erect with no muscle effort expenditure. A modified funnel type effect yet allows for protection of the vulnerable tympanic membrane. Deep set to provide for more temperature constant environment to operate in. The outer ear can be quite cold and still completely functional. The middle ear even more protected but still open partially to outside air though very controlled via eustachian tube. The inner ear even more protection provided by closed system of blood feeding of all cells and returns via veinous drainages system. Even more stability of temperature of body core temperature.
I think most of the books out there that describe the pinna as a physical thing to collect the sound and direct it down the audiory canal is actually incorrect. And, the majority of people who then explain what it is simply take the paper's word for it, so it becomes the dogma from where we all get informed upon. The pinna is NOT a collecting device but a binaural infusion device for inducing different tones of sounds given a particular direction, a unique tone is made at any given angle due to the shape of the pinna where the brain then can determine where the direction of the sound is coming from. The pinna is the ONLY organ (as far as I know) that you can actually see how it works, as long as you comprehend the principles of physics due to the shapes of the pinna causing differential tones depending upon the angle at which it arrives..
thanks so much I have had a sore ear for 3 months, and it stopped but then it restarted , my GP gave me a swab and loaded with antibiotics nothing would alleviate that feeling of having water over the sound, highly frustrating 2 months later nothing seems to work, ear drops 4 bottles of Sofradex and 28 Cefaclor tablets taken 2 x a day , after 5months still no change, I had a temperature and while on xmas holidays it began to get worse, so I sort another doctor. they said they couldnt see the membrane and that I had a hole inside the ear, tests said it was A cholesteatoma, now being the 17/01/23 , still no change and my head aches, being the festive season most doctors are away, so I suffered even more , one ear doctor stopped the Cefactolor and said just use Sofradex, still no change, Finally my GP was back and i couldnt lift my head off the pillow, oh I even tried ear candling and got marble sized wax but no pus, I'm still waiting, having breast cancer 4x losing my breasts, ovaries and had reoccuring breast cancer as well as positive cancer in 16 lymphatic nodes as well as stage 4 invasive cancer , also combating bowel cancer and stomach ailments IBS, I am miserable and suddenly many lumps began to grow in my legs, groin, tummy and breast line scars, I'm fed up, just wanna get it sorted but dam xmas and new year got in the way of NZ hospital systems, i don't know what to do? i loved your video Doc, you are neat alright.. My hearing is terrible I can't stand this pain, so here I am , a little upset that nobody seems to take this seriously, and I'm waiting for the ear Doctor, its is awfully distressing, I continue to call my doctor whom said she has referred me to an ear specialist, mum said granddad went total deaf, and perhaps its congenital, I hope not, My sister just died of breast cancer , she had bone cancer as well as brain cancer and liver cancer, I have the 4th rarest breast cancer with no cure, my pituitary gland is non existent.I have diabetes insipid-us now too, I'm getting quite depressed by a silly ear infection. HELP what can I do ?😭😭😭😭😭😭😢😢😢😢😢
Is it normal to hear a slight humming in your ears in silence? My ears do actually ring once in a while for around 5 seconds then seems to fade out. I had my hearing checked and I have above average hearing still in both ears. I feeo like I may be overthinking my silence. Thank you, Professor, for what you do!
