Thank you, Dr. Webster! Early this year I experienced sudden sensorineural hearing loss in one year, resulting in a significant loss of perception of low frequencies around 1000Hz and lower (measured only to 250Hz). The neurotologist said the cause is not clear (in fact, this kind of thing has been known about since around 1800, but the cause is still murky). It might be Meniere's Disease without vertigo, or cochlear hydrops. The best (only?) treatment is the use of powerful steroids. To my surprise (and alarm), the steroid solution was injected into my middle ear through the tympanic membrane. Although he numbed the area first, it was fairly painful. There was no improvement in my hearing, so I got a second dose of the steroid solution. Unfortunately, this was also ineffective, so I just started wearing hearing aids.
I asked whether the puncture of my ear drum for these injections would harm my hearing. Apparently not. Why not? Isn't that a perforation of the ear drum?
Thank you, as always, for your expert and engaging teaching. I'm always excited to see a new video by you!
Thank you Doc...
A/C joint is highly wished to see close up video about, thks.
so ... my obvious question would be , can the tympanic membrane work as a speaker ?
the bone to excite the membrane and play to the outer world the sound of our thoughts :D
thank you sir
