Listening to David speak is like eating a yummy piece of chocolate (or whatever your favourite food is) cake. His grip on the English language, his tone etc.. just brilliant to listen to. What an instrument.
Agree...Not only one of the finest guitarists in music, but a complete grasp of expressing himself in words. Of course with that British accent, one could listen to him for days. Nic Mason always expressed himself very well too.
Jay Andrade Amen. When I'm pushing 70 I should look so good & still be jammin. DG is still making music & touring. They are/ were/& always will be icons....
Exactly. And what blows my mind is how well Gilmour's voice (and guitar) has held up. Seeing him tomorrow, been praying for 10 years he would tour again can't wait.
When David Gilmour says: The clock is running out, it's time for us to call it a day, I don't know what happens to my eyes!!! they are all watery!!! God I miss them!
***** I know!! Especially when I see the years on David's face and think back to what he (and they) looked like all those years ago. I sit there and think, surely the younger david is still around and time hasn't kept going...but it has...I saw Gilmour in 2006 in Toronto, Canada, and Rick was there...Will never forget that night.
How different Pink Floyd are to Deep Purple, no embarrassing their reputation with endless tours playing corny songs and headbanging. Their 2005 Live 8 reunion was totally dignified and brilliantly performed. RIP Richard Wright.
I've never seen Pink Floyd unfortunately, but did see Dave Gilmour play with The Who in 96 Hyde Park when he joined them during the Quadrophenia rock opera..was amazing! Also where we were sitting he and his wife walked past us
At 5:30, David confirms what my ears were telling me when I listen to the Endless River, that much of the sound and vibe is late 60s/early 70s Pink Floyd.
Any band that has in its vocabulary words like "Superfluous" is a band that has lived, loved, lost and grown, It is part of a texture that The Floyd has infused into all of us through the music. As we look back through these interviews we get the rare opportunity to have a measure of completeness, not so much closure,, but completeness and context that few bands have ever been able to give the public
I was very pleasantly surprised by _The Endless River._ I enjoyed it much more than I expected. They should have been doing instrumental albums all along, after Roger Waters left. Just sing some "aahs" and "oohs" now and then! David and Rick were always very good at that. If you've heard "Atom Heart Mother" done without the orchestra, they do a pretty good job during the choir section. And the "Celestial Voices" section of "A Saucerful of Secrets", live, just David singing "Aah"s, is deeply beautiful. As I expected, however, I still hate "Louder Than Words", just way too "meta" for my taste. You've carried on without Roger Waters; we know, get over yourselves. Other than that, it's lovely.
Ben Culture I have not even purchased this album yet. I own all other PF albums. ALL OF THEM. I got gold disk on my wall of some of them. Can't bring myself to listen to B side cuts of Ummagumma type noise. I need words.
PYSCOPOMP That's perfectly reasonable. I'm a pretty verbal guy myself. I keep treating my FaceBook page like a blog, writing long essays nobody reads! I used to be friends with a dyslexic woman who told me she doesn't think in words, more like images and symbols. I can't imagine that. And yeah, there are Pink Floyd tracks that can be completely ignored. I like "Grantchester Meadows" and "The Narrow Way", but Rick and Nick's pieces were meaningless, and Roger's "Several Species ..." is just a novelty. Something I never listen to anymore is the _More_ soundtrack. It has several good songs, but the instrumentals are just rubbish to me.
Yeah I always shunned the post waters albums but I've grown to like them, mostly Division Bell. Obviously you can't really call the band "Pink Floyd" without the mastermind behind all their major albums, but also can't deny the musical genius of Gilmour/wright/Mason.
"Louder than words," in the hands of a "proper" lyricist could have been really memorable, and Roger Water's criticisms of Polly Samson are spot-on; I love and have enormous respect for David Gilmour and I completely respect the fact that she's his partner in life, but she's NOT a musician nor a songwriter, and both the aforementioned song and the "lyrics" she's written with her husband are just terrible, contrived and cliche to the hilt. "The Endless River," with more thought and "real" collaborations could have been an exceptional conclusion to a brilliant career, but as it stands...it's just mediocre and a missed-opportunity.
He's confirmed a solo album, including Nick Mason, as well as a tour for 2015. I'm honestly more eager for that than another Pink Floyd album unless Roger Waters would be joining, which I seriously doubt.
theMstanglover Well, Roger said, he is more mellow these days, but the situation hasn't changed. He writes in whole concepts, and he expects to have that concept come out as he sees it. It isn't ego, that is just how he does art. It is like Sting with the police, they were really good, but he wanted all his songs to be recorded and released. So they couldn't work together. None of their records had that depth after Roger left. All four of them together made it. Even Nick. Like David said. They could get another really good drummer, one that was more proficient then Nick, but it wasn't really there.
I am a big fan of this band I own all their albums I have seen them live Pink Floyd will always be one of my favorits So it breaks my heart to say: This album is INCREDIBLY bad
Steve Anger I saw Dave and Rick and even dick parry for the first time at Massey Hall in Toronto, Canada back in 2006. A buddy got us tickets to see David at the Air Canada Centre, a much larger venue, in March of next year. I can't wait. I hope he's still got it! Not to sound sappy, but I will miss Dave's beautiful voice and equally beautiful (and talented) music when he's gone. I can never get enough. Takes me to places no one else can some days..I wish I had been alive back in their heyday. I was born in 1975 and my cousin turned me on to The Floyd nearly 20 years ago. I always knew of them as a kid, but never paid close attention. alas.
Yes it's no doubt that Gilmour's guitar playing has influenced me more than anybody else! Even his easiest lick are completely signature! Im afraid I won't be able to see him live unless I get my butt in gear! Not that I think he's on his death bed or anything, but I doubt hell be touring forever.
Steve Anger When I saw him in 2006, it was a small, classic old venue we have here in Toronto, called Massey Hall. Gorgeous old place. I can't believe i was as close as the house across my street from he and Rick and Dick parry...In relativity to where he resides and where I do and considering he used to do the large venues, I was close. He was fantastic and it was surreal being there. I was naturally high the entire time, I barely remember parts of the concert! I couldn't believe I was in the same room as him watching him do live what I'd watched on video and dvd thousands of times and heard on albums...Best concert of my life. I regret not going to the Pulse concert in the 90's as a teenager. Wish I'd had my shit together. I will always regret not knowing about him then. Go see him if you can!
i like Jimi. He was only around for 3 years. The difference is Jimi would have NEVER stopped playing, never stopped making records, always looking to jam or play with many different musicians. Gilmour always struck me as this genteel English gent. Its just not my shtick. Its always..."Are we going to play again ?.....How can we play without Roger ? How are we going to carry on without Rick ?....Is Floyd going to make another record ? Jimi would have said....."screw it.....lets just jam and see where it takes us. Spontaneous, outrageous, not over thinking things or being too analytical. Just my 2 cents.
I'm pretty sure Dave was like that from 24-27 as well... I'm sure you know Atom Heart Mother, SFOS etc. if you look at any of their late 60s (post Syd) or early 70s live stuff they were doing incredible stuff. Age does strange things to us all I guess.
When David & Roger were young and full of themselves, yes both had enormous egos. As both grew older, David seemed to have the mire mature ego and not wanting everything his way. Certainly David continuing on with the "Brand" Pink Floyd allowed him much more success without Roger. I'm sure in hindsight, both would have handled things quite differently. It's called "Life" and none of us can rewind & start over, can we?
Money grabbing antics,,,the stuff wasn't good enough for The Division Bell, and lets face it, after The Wall and Roger leaving, it's just never been as good. And realising a Division Bell, 20 year box see this year, they expect people to pay out for another box set again, a bit sad really.
Floyd started to decline after WYWH for me. Once Roger took complete control things started to go sour. I enjoyed Animals and the Wall obviously, but they started to get a bit too bitter for me to call them absolute favourites.
Yeah, because they need the money right? David gave his mansion in London to the local council to be converted into a refuge for the homeless. They were all millionaires in their 20's. They also turned down a reunion tour where they were offered 85 million each. Yeah, greed eh?
Jeez, that's bollocks, it was worth 3 mill,, this Mansion..lol That's a Tax thing. He is worth 200 million Plus,, a deal on digital royalties agreed with EMI in January will benefit all the former Pink Floyd members, to the value of about 40 mill each. Why tour, just release- The endless drivel . Most likely the worst album ever made, and a Gilmore solo album if you really get right down to it.
BlueDodgerman No No No. This is a beautiful piece of work. I love it the more I hear it and Iisten to it all the time, in the car, at home, while reading. A totally immersive experience. Give it a chance to grow on you.
And the same with Italian just love all around
Why is everyone talking bout how old they look? They're 70+ I think they look good. They are icons
Jay Andrade Amen. When I'm pushing 70 I should look so good & still be jammin. DG is still making music & touring. They are/ were/& always will be icons....
werdgerl I've got tickets to see David next March in Toronto, Canada...I can't wait...Saw him in 2006 and Wish I had been alive back in their heyday

Man your lucky!!! I'm happy for ya,Gilmour is really underrated
theDiReW0lf Yup. He sounded brilliant. What a memorable night. Saw him two weeks ago this thursday.
My Heroes are getting older;(
thank you for music:)
When David Gilmour says: The clock is running out, it's time for us to call it a day, I don't know what happens to my eyes!!! they are all watery!!! God I miss them!

Still, aren't we all glad they added this Coda to their career?! Such an amazing cap on their career...."Louder Than Words" indeed!
Such eloquence when Mr. Gilmour speaks ❤ Love hearing him sing. Everything flows from his heart.
These two are so humble. It’s like that don’t even realise the Pink Floyd phenomenon! 🕶🎶
When I see Nick Mason, I think he's the long lost brother of Eric Idle from Monty Python. They look so much alike.
He sounds like him too, like on Candy and a current bun when he says ‘drive me wild’.
How different Pink Floyd are to Deep Purple, no embarrassing their reputation with endless tours playing corny songs and headbanging.
Their 2005 Live 8 reunion was totally dignified and brilliantly performed.
RIP Richard Wright.
There cannot be a new stuff without Wright's keyboards.
They should have invited Roger for at least one song, his lyrics are sublime...
Endless River is a masterpiece of ambient music.
I'm loving the whole album..the track 'It's What We Do' has so many great guitar solos.. emotions overload!!!
David!!! Do you even know how much
we loved you back in the PF days???
I've never seen Pink Floyd unfortunately, but did see Dave Gilmour play with The Who in 96 Hyde Park when he joined them during the Quadrophenia rock opera..was amazing! Also where we were sitting he and his wife walked past us

they did a great job on this album.i like it very much.

So what if they look old?! Look at the music they have made for all humanity! 😎🤗
🎶🎶🎶🎶PINK FLOYD FOR EVER AND EVER🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶
É SEMPRE BOM OUVIR DAVID GILMOUR E AS HISTÓRIAS DO PINK FLOYD: A MAIOR BANDA DE TODOS OS TEMPOS!
Hm, that organ story was interesting, mixing sounds from different times in the same song - awesome.
Pink Floyd the best ever,
Hope you come to Bali, I would love to touch your legends soul of music
This album is Genius! So cool.
I was very pleasantly surprised by _The Endless River._ I enjoyed it much more than I expected. They should have been doing instrumental albums all along, after Roger Waters left. David going from 100% certain to 99% certain gives me a small bit of hope that there MIGHT be something!
I think they used up all the extra tracks they didn't use on earlier albums.
***** well thats all fine and good, talking about new stuff
jsvkia1 With just David and Nick? I really feel you need the 4 of them to do a proper Pink Floyd album.
He's confirmed a solo album, including Nick Mason, as well as a tour for 2015. I'm honestly more eager for that than another Pink Floyd album unless Roger Waters would be joining, which I seriously doubt.

Even if there is another album, it won't be the same without rick.
Thanks you for listening little old me
Please Roger- Please David- put your differences aside- Make us worship Pink Floyd again!!!
You made us love you!!! And need to keep doing so!! VIA Pink Floyd..whether you like or not!!!!!
I am a big fan of this band
I own all their albums
I have seen them live
Pink Floyd will always be one of
my favorits
So it breaks my heart to say:
This album is INCREDIBLY bad
is the best band and the world so I I'm happy to lessen to new songs. ...I think
But David, you don't loose your wisteling and a solo playing "pleeeees? ....... Love you both
Get together and make some great music happen again- !!! Go ¬Pink Floyd GO!!!
For me Richard Wrights sound was the core of Pink Floyd, Echoes !!!
David looks just like my pappy now that he's older! Don't think I'm gonna cope well when either of them are gone 😔.
Steve Anger I still can't accept David and the band won't be around some day...I mean Rick (and Syd) gone.......damn...
I know it's hard to see our heroes looking much much older!

Great guys
no matter his age he will even be hot at 100 years ,i love you david
Re. Rick's Albert Hall organ section: notice how short it actually is. must be a lot more they didn't use. File this for later.
What if they do the same from other album leftovers.
Gilmour and Hawking, that is good company
david gilmour guitar god now resembling god.
that moment when you realize a friend is not there anymore 3:12 :c
The visual distortion of the data compression reminds me a lot of being on acid.
MPHA is the one
Sad but looking for the holographic return of Pink Floyd
i like Jimi. He was only around for 3 years. The difference is Jimi would have NEVER stopped playing, never stopped making records, always looking to jam or play with many different musicians. by the way my name is not derrik ferguson
Roger Waters should have been brought back into the band.
If this is to be the group's swan song, why didn't you bring Roger back in? DG still wanting to flex his massive ego? Topped only by Macca's.
This album was a dissapointing. I'm sure if they want they can still give us one last album of better stuff. They seem tired of life and retired.
hafiz brain missing! i find the album very much to my taste
Money grabbing antics,,,the stuff wasn't good enough for The Division Bell, and lets face it, after The Wall and Roger leaving, it's just never been as good.
