I'm here to remove the plastic under the pot knobs. :(
yeah it's really annoying , and I can't figure out the reason but I guess it's to keep dust away until sold
Most likely already damaged my volume knob. I got here too late...
me too xd
Same, glad it worked tanks!
@@solomonstello lol
The picks worked nicely for me...stupid plastic on the pickguard
Kyle Wall ikr
Exact same thing happened to me.
sammeeee ive been playing guitar for over a year now, i can do some nice solos and only just now have gotten that stupid piece of plastic out! thank you.
Exactly the reason why I'm here!!!!!!!
Thank you so much! The plastic inside was pretty annoying.
Yep, no problem! I'm not sure why they add plastic to every new guitar either haha. I suppose it's meant to protect it from scratches and make it look new but yeah I agree it's annoying :P
It's been almost a decade, and this video is still helping people! Thanks a bunch!
I'm really glad it's still relevant to this day. Thank you for commeintg!
It's the little thing in life, like this video, that can make a big difference. Thanks for taking the time to make it! 👍🏽
You’re welcome and thank you also for the little thing in life where you commented:) makes a big difference in my mood!
I just got my first guitar and used your guitar pick method to get my knobs off so I can take that annoying plastic off! Thank you so much 😊
Awesome!! I'm glad it worked! Thank you for commenting your feedback!!
Ditto!
It would have been enough for me to know it wouldn't damage my guitar, but not damaging it what-so-ever is even better.
00nowhereman00 Thanks for the feedback! :)
Man your a genius. I could not get the knob off of my vintage Strat. Used the two pick method and it came off really easily. Thanks for your help.
William Robert Glad it finally worked :) and thank you for commenting
Genius. Cloth method worked on my LP easily. Didn't think that thing would ever come off!
Thanks dude!
cosycampbell thanks :) glad it worked!!
I run a guitar repair workshop in New Jersey, and I found this to be a really clever, creative way of doing it. Good job dude!
Wow!! Thank you so much for your comment 😭 I feel honored haha🙏 approval from a person with expertise in the area is flattering haha
@@CreativiTimothy Keep trying new and creative solutions to the problems you have with your guitars, and some day, after a whole lot of trial and error and learning from your mistakes, someone will be calling you an expert! Good luck with everything dude.
I've had plastic under my guitar knobs for years and it's always irritated me, finally popped off the knobs and removed it. So much satisfaction! It's the small things :-)
Years! Dang! Glad to hear this worked out!
Cheers, I was going to try the lift with picks method but was anxious of damaging the guitar in any way, Thanks again, from the Merseyside home to The Beatles & Elvis Costello North West of England.
Thank you for commenting! Yes, I think in most cases, picks should not damage guitar! Probably the guitar would have to have pretty soft material for it to scratch imo
Nice Tip! Thank you!
Grab the Guitar Thanks! Glad you found it useful!
This was extremely helpful! I just got a new guitar and the plastic was stuck below the volume and tone knobs, thanks for making the video!
I’m really glad to hear that!! It’s definitely annoying with them there. Thank you for commenting how it went❤️
Thanks so much for this video! I’ve just bought an electric guitar and I couldn’t figure out how to get rid of the plastic stuck under the knobs!😊
Sound of My Strings awesome!! I’m glad it helped :) The plastic is definitely annoying
Hell yeah! had to fix a loose washer on a Gibson ES 335 and the knob wouldn't budge, The cloth worked like a charm! Thank you!
Axisbold awesome! Glad to hear you could do it easily without damaging anything!
Young man, you are a genius! The cloth method worked very nicely for me. In the UK, to "get your knob out" means something different entirely.
Thanks!! and you're welcome! Ahh I just searched up the definition just now lol -- I genuinely didn't know
No worries. I had to laugh, but I also had to send a compliment cuz I nearly broke my fingers tryin to remove the knobs from the gtr until I viewed your instructional video. Cheers man!
I found your clip and just removed my knobs to remove the plastic from my new strat. I used your pick tip. Thank you!
Awesome glad it worked and you’re welcome!!
The two plectrum tip worked like a charm, much appreciated 👌🏻
Awesome! Glad to hear!
bro, 2 picks method is sick, thank u so much
Thank you! That’s my favorite method too since it is probably the easiest and most convenient🙏
Used two plastic cards instead of picks and it worked great
Yeah any thin plastic works just fine! Thanks for commenting
That microfiber towel trick worked perfectly. Mine were on really tight and if I had used a flat tip screwdriver I definitely would've damaged the pickguard and the knobs. Thanks!
Glad it worked! It did take me a few tries to get the cloth under the knobs, so I'm glad it worked for you!
Thank you so much bro!! It was very very easy with the picks 😅
Awesome! I’m glad to hear the picks were easy to use!
Holy fucking shit dude, you're a saviour. Never thought of trying to use a couple picks to take these knobs off
I'm happy to hear that!! Thank you for commenting and sorry for the late reply!
Man, the pick method is awesome
It's amazing
It doesn't need much effort
It's really easy
Thanks for commenting :) Yeah it's pretty simple! The cloth method is a bit harder though I suppose it has less chance of scratching the guitar than a guitar pick I suppose. I think guitar picks shouldn't scratch the guitar unless it's a budget one I think
Thanks for the video. Helped me remove plastic under my pots. Picked up a Fender player strat.
Welcome! Glad it was helpful!!
Thanks man! The 2 Guitar Picks Method worked for me, i was to lazy to go back to the store and i had a lose tone button.
Yep! Glad it helped! Something to use those extra picks with lol
Haha thanks a lot !
Was annoyed by the "frrrt frrrt" noise under the knobs coming from the plastic I just removed ^^
Thank you !
Awesome! You’re welcome, and yeah it’s annoying haha
cloth method worked for me , thanks dude!
Awesome! Thanks for commenting!
Nice tutorial man, quick and to the point! If you don't have a cleaning cloth nearby, I've found that a sock will also work haha
Tim Murray thank you!! I thought the first 36 seconds was a waste of time so I put timestamps just in case haha~ really? Thanks for telling me! Thought socks were too thick unless you had a thin one? Haha
Oh man i need to clean my guitar after looking at yours Tim.
2 pick method worked like a charm. Thank you, you made my day!
Awesome! You commenting that makes my day too haha
Worked for my toaster, was glued on too
Tobias Kallehauge awesome! I wouldn’t think it would work for glue but that’s great! Which method did you use?
Man! The Pick-trick works like a charm! Thank you!
You're welcome!! Glad it worked fine!
Thanks for that, Timothy. This Timothy is very happy with his new scratch plate, and
Duncan distortion in his squire strat.
Your cloth pulling technique fixed the crappy plastic trash
You're welcome!
you can also loosen the hex heads to take off the plastic without leaving any on there.
worked on my Squire Bullet Strat guitar
Interesting. How do you loosen it? Like with your fingers, tool, or something else?
Thanks... the pick method worked perfectly. 👍
Awesome! I’m glad to hear it worked well🙏
i got my knob out ???? cracked me up !!!
Yeah haha
came to comment on that 2, my fav part of the vid was when we got our knob out
Pick method on both sides works, even did it with the S1 switch. Didn't realise how much plastic was still under those knobs.
Awesome! Yeah I thought there was just 1 layer of plastic on the top but it goes deep inside, too
Thank you Timothy. You saved my day and my 1965 Strat
I'm happy to hear that!! Thank you for commenting and sorry for the late reply!
Brilliant cloth trick!
Thank you and glad it helped :D
Bro! That was such a neat trick.
Thank you so much for commenting! Glad it worked well for you!
Two good methods. You can also take a length of string wrap it under the knob and pull up.
Thank you and good tip!
THANKS! Pick trick worked for me (no pickguard)
Awesome!! Glad it worked :)
Never thought of the pick! My cloths are too thick to slip under the knob. Thanks!!!
Yeah, I found the pick easiest and most convenient way! You're welcome!
I wish I'd watched this before I butchered a pickguard. Fortunately, I had a spare. BTW: your guitar looks exactly like mine. Warmoth? (I looked below and saw it was in a bundle.) Looks nice like my Warmoth.
Grea that you have a spare! Nah mine is a $150 Fender haha, but a lot of guitar designs are like this probably
Finally something usefull to do with these picks. Never use them in any way.
Great video 😊
Yeah I bought a whole bundle of them and figured out a use for it haha. Thanks!
Worked perfectly!
Glad to hear!
Silk cloth works better than a regular cleaning cloth. It’s thin enough to get under the knobs that have no space underneath them.
I used my shirt for this lmao. Actually works. Thanks!
Nice! A very thin shirt? Glad it works!
Thank you so much! The sound of the plastic film underneath the buttons annoyed me so much, finally got rid of it!
Dianne Rozendal glad it worked! :D and yeah the plastic sound is not very asmr worthy lol
You sir saved my life
:D
You got your knob out XD giggled like a schoolgirl
Works as a charm. Thanks!!!!
Awesome!! Glad it worked!
OMG the first things you said were exactly the reasons why im here!
Haha I actually was just guessing reasons but they seem on point 👌
CreativiTimothy Thanks man you really helped me out with that plastic 🎸🎸👌
Is the metal part meant to come out on a coil tap? Think I may have broken the coil tap :(
I don't think so ^^" Should be only the plastic part. I think your guitar might have knob sticking to your metal part too much so regardless of how you remove, it might come out anyway. I'm not sure for the solution, but if I come up with an idea, I'll let you know!
@@CreativiTimothy thank you
I have a question because i removed the knob and when i put it agan why the knob is not smooth like before and how to adjust the nut inside and what kind of adjustment?
Sorry for the 1 year late reply. I think maybe there are some notches on the nut or something so you'd have to put the knob on a certain way. I'm not super familiar with a guitar like that, but maybe you can try removing and placing it in different rotations
worked like a charm! thanks :)
Awesome! Glad to hear🔥
I have a question because i removed the knob and when i put it again why the knob is not smooth like before and how to adjust the nut inside and what kind of adjustment?
Ge Lo francisco Hmm, what do you mean by not smooth? Like it does not fit in perfectly?
@@CreativiTimothy i mean yes because i put it again and when i turn it on is hard to turn it on but it is put a normal way.
thanks man, safed me
Awesome! Glad it was able to help you🔥
This helped a lot, ty!
Glad it worked and you’re welcome!!
Thanks for removing my odd looking plastic underneath the knobs :3
You're welcome! :)
Thanks! Quick and to the point
Welcome and thanks for commenting!
thanks. i'm using the cloth method.
No problem! :) Thanks for letting my know which one was helpful!
the 2 picks worked great ty
Nice! Glad it helped!
Damn plastic under my knob player series. Thank you my cousin
haha you're welcome :)
Thanks for cloth method
Welcome! Glad that one works!
thaaaanks, I used my nails to get some space underneath the knobs, inserted the cloth then moved it a bit with my fingers and voila
Music Discovery awesome! I never tried to use my nails before because scared of bending them haha but glad it worked!!
@@CreativiTimothy hahahh no pain no gain
Thanks, that was easy. The picks.
Glad it worked!
You are a savior!
Trevor Richardson thanks man!! 👌
👍🏻 u play guitar too! Demmm sugoi!
YES THANK CHU SO MUCH--Not the best at it, but yes I do know some guitar 🎸
Pick method works very well. Thanks.
Cool! You're welcome!
The pick method was a bit hard for me, I found it much easier to do the shoe laces method you can look up (you just put one lace up top and one on the bottom in parrallel, then you pull all the four ends straight up)
Thank you for the suggestion! Maybe it works better on certain guitars with tighter or smaller distances from the knobs
thank you so much! it was worth it
You're welcome!! Glad it ended up working!
Thanks! Both great ideas!
really helpful! thanks man
diego25497 welcome! Glad it worked fine
perfect. thanks. pick version worked a treat
Paul Adams Awesome! :)
you are the man!! thanks
Haha thank you man!!
Very helpful, thanks!
David Platek glad it worked and thank you for your comment! 🙏
Hi I just got a new electric fender guitar, how do I remove the plastics UNDER the single coul pick ups😢
Ribbon works just as well!
Ooh thank you for the tip and commenting!
Thank you!!
You're welcome!! Thank you for commenting and sorry for the late reply!
What about the pickup selector switch cover?
Sorry not too sure for that. Mine had screws on the overall guitar cover, and I assume that would be how you take it off to unveil the pickup selector I I think
THANK U FOR THE AWESOME GUIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dylan Ormsby thank you for the awesome comment!! 😎
Thanks and beautiful Strat by the way!
Welcome! Thanks haha
thanks!
thank u so much dude
Thank you so much for commenting :)
Um, was the metal thing that the pot was on supposed to come out? My middle tone knob won’t stay in anymore and I’m worried I damaged it🥲
If you mean like the metal cylinder that you insert the knob on, no it's not supposed to come off. Dang :/ If you have a picture, I can try to help more. I'm not an expert at guitars like I don't play it regularly, but I'm generally decent at fixing things
@@CreativiTimothy yeah the thing got pulled out when I was taking the plastic off. The other two popped off fairly easily but the middle one just ripped out the metal thing. I have a squire Stratocaster that I got as a gift and I was gonna get a new guitar but I still want the one I have
Pick method worked great! Finally got that stupid plastic out from under the knobs after 10 years!
Awesome! Glad it worked for you! I don't know why they put plastic under the knobs but maybe it's supposed to protect it
Still useful after all these years.
Yeah sometimes I don’t realize how old this video is
What guitar is this ?
Sorry for the late reply. It's a $150 guitar (with amp), and it's Squier by Fender
ANYONE WANTING TO TRY THIS!
Make sure that if there's a screw on a knob, you loosen it a bit. Slight mistake on my end, but no real damage.
You are awesome 👊 Thank you so much bro
Hakan EROĞLU Thanks for commenting your thanks 👌 :D
Does this work on the telecaster. I wanna get different knobs
I don't own one, so I don't know, but it should work if the knobs can normally be removed by a knife or pliers
NICE MAN!!!! love you
No problem! :D
Thanks mate
ENICO Welcome :D
Electrical guitar. 🎵 It's electrical, boogie woogie woogie 🎶
thanks! plastic out now!
Sweet! Glad it worked!
does this work on every guitar
Should work on any electric guitar that has push-on knobs (not screwed or something funky)
