Would You Install a Tailgate Seal? I Try One on My 2024 GMC Sierra 2500 HD with MultiPro Tailgate

- I did not expect to install one of these in my new truck, but after a few outings in the rain while hauling goods that need to stay dry, I gave it a more detailed consideration. The rain getting in may be to blame a combination of the MultiPro tailgate itself (more seams) combined with my tonneau cover (way it overlaps on top). I realize it's a truck tailgate and not intended to be watertright, but I figure might as well try a tailgate seal. So I found one from ESI that is exclusively designed for GM trucks, both the GMC with MultiPro tailgate, and the Chevy with Multi-Flex tailgate. So what are my thoughts after installing it? And does it actually work? I'll share the details in today's video along with both testing for water with a garden hose and a rain shower.

the bottom seal is just holding water in once it leaks, if it does get in you want it to escape or give it a chance too.....bottom seal prevents that a bit
if its raining and your parked, slope your truck where the water will drain out the back...if driving nothing you can do
thinking of trading my 23 in for specific purpose of that tailgate, I loved it when I had it in a 1500 and in my 2500 it would be even more so
Install the seal. It's not 100% but it's like 95% better
Nice review, very good explanation!
Thank you
Great video and thank you.
Thank you.
I have the same tonneau cover as you. I own a 2023 GMC 2500 AT4. I ran into the same issue of water entry down the inside of the tailgate. I decided that the seal on the tonneau was not pressing against the tailgate hard enough. What I did was use the extra smaller seal (red) that comes with the tonneau and apply right on the rubber seal that supposed to contact the tailgate. The result was that the extra pressure from the “double” seal stopped any water intrusion under normal rainy conditions. I then ran it through a touch less car wash and found only a few dribbles of water going down the inside of the tailgate. Hope this helps!
Great tip, thank you!
Never had an issue with my 24’ 2500 letting water come in from the tailgate side. I have the same cover but have leaks at the front passenger side when it rains.
Thanks for this video. I have purchased this seal kit from Amazon. I have a 2024 Silverado w/Multi Flex Tailgate. I will install per your recommendations and leave off the little seal pieces and the bottom seal.
Thank you. Appreciate the feedback.
Nice. Where did you get that carpet for your bed?
Yes, here is the one I have:

I have a newer Silverado with a cover but without the multipro tailgate and it stays really dry back there.
Great point. Thank you for sharing.
I never take my truck out of the garage if its' raining.
Must be nice!
But what you didn't say is, do you for example live in the desert where it rarely rains ?
@@charlesb4267 haha
That's the most asinine behavior I've ever heard of it, buy a better truck if it easily leaks or gets damaged by literal water
Love it 🤣
just take it to the dealer and have them fix the seal, it's not rocket science. I had a similar issue and had it fixed by the dealer
Great question! Unfortunately on most trucks they do not come with tailgate seals from the factory as they're not intended to be watertight in the first place. So that leaves aftermarket solutions like this tailgate seal kit from ESI for trucks owners that would like to keep cargo in bed free of dust and water. It's not a perfect solution, but certainly helps.
