Did You Know? "Procedural Justice: Immigrant Communities"

Expands on the four tenets of Procedural Justice (Voice, Neutrality, Respect, and Trustworthiness) and asks officers to consider why immigrants might have a different perception and reaction to law enforcement.
As you watch this video, consider the following questions for yourself or for a group discussion:
1. Why might it be important to consider the perspective of the immigrant during an interaction with law enforcement officers?
2. When considering the segment that depicted deputies approaching the scene of a person who had been robbed, what conduct did you witness in the video that may have caused the deputies to believe the immigrant was the suspect and did the deputies maintain skills related to procedural justice as they reacted to the situation? Why or why not?
3. When considering the segment with the semi-conscious female inside the van, what steps have you (or the center of your communication/department) undertaken to build relationships with immigrants that might foster the trust necessary for immigrants to feel safe and willing to call the police for help?
4. What were some examples in these segments where you saw the four tenets of procedural justice modeled?
