Oblivion's Arena - Can You WIN BIG By Betting? Lore, Analysis & Features EXPLAINED

- In today's video, we discuss The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and it's faction the Arena. The Arena is located in the Imperial City Arena District and can easily be joined by talking to the Blademaster Owyn. The player is placed on the Blue Team and rises to the role of Grand Champion. A lesser remembered and lesser explored feature of the game however is that the player can actually place bets on and spectate NPCs as they battle in the Arena. If the team's combatant you bet on wins, you receive a payout of double in which you put in. If you lose, you lose the amount of gold you initially betted with. Let's discuss the lore of the arena as well as see if there are any patterns, signs or clues to help us with picking the correct team to win in the Arena. Don't forget to like, comment and subscribe!

It’s so refreshing to have such high quality content on Oblivion. There’s a big lack of this type of content because the game is old so all of the videos on it are old.
Thank you for the support! I appreciate it! :)
once you get to higher levels the arena combatants start showing up with daedric stuff..
i found this out hilariously one day when i decided to bet in the arena just to try it out after ignoring it all game.
The yellow team's fighter came out swinging around a dadric warhammer and matching helmet, while the poor blue teams fighter came out in steel with an iron sword...
That’s really interesting! I’m not sure why my high level character didn’t see that stuff! Maybe I’ll have to go and mess around with it some more!
This is a pretty interesting and overlooked topic. I always ignored betting because it seems like a waste of time since it doesn't pay much. So, I never learned these details. Thanks for doing the dirty work for me!
Thank you for the support! I was always interested in Arena betting and wondered if there was ever more to it!
Mate idk how you pump out this high quality content at this speed. Keep at it!
😂 I really appreciate the continued support! :) it’s not easy but so worth it!
It's awesome watching your channel grow in real time
Thank you for coming along on the journey! :)
I always wondered how the Arena worked! Thanks for looking into this! It seems I was doing it correctly-waiting until I had thousands of Gold, then wearing my best clothes, smuggling in some fine Wine, and betting to relax between difficult fights whenever I came back to the Imperial City. I do appreciate that they didn't cut the spectating, as I really do enjoy doing that. It makes me feel like I 'made it' in the big city.
Thank you for the support! I totally agree with you! It really adds to the immersion of making it big!
One of my favorite things in Oblivion and the faction/questline I almost always do first just to build skills and earn septims.
Always stoked when you release a new video! Great stuff man!
I appreciate the support! Thank you :)
Heavy raiment is a massive advantage. Also the weapon type ~ for how two npcs interact in combat its better for them to have a weapon that has a long reach. Even on staggers with a short range weapon npcs will miss a lot of attacks.
Yes! The two handed weapons inflicting a lot more staggering for sure!
When the fight is about to start, Wes Johnson announces the combatants.
And it's like in New Vegas. More luck makes you win. (But there a luck of 7 on a scale of 1-10 is enough if you have even the slightest idea what you're doing)
Once again, I am impressed at how well made and researched your video is.
Thank you for the continued support! :)
commenting to get your vid in the algorithm more. nice one dude!
Thank you for the support! :)
Great video as always and love the research that went into this 😊
Thank you for the continued support! I was really excited to cover this topic! :)
Glad you talked about this one
Glad you liked it! :)
It makes sense that two handed weapon would have the advantage, as they have a longer reach
I think for that reason and that they deal more damage! I didn’t bother counting how many swings each NPC took but I definitely think it’s an even amount!
Always ignored betting, great to see some actual data on this.
Thank you for the support! I always ignored it as well! Thought it was finally time to look a little further into it!
6:45 what a load of light weights. My longest match (from memory) was about 36 hours.
Idea: it’s well known you can reverse pickpocket damaging gear and frenzy people with magic, but what if you wanted to find a more… creative and subtle way to destroy a town?
Every npc has a schedule. Sometimes they might shop, eat, talk with a specific npc, or go and pick flowers to satisfy their requirements. Radiant ai allows for some unique tactics they can pull to fulfill them. What if you broke the easiest methods to complete these schedules, and forced them to take more extreme actions to complete them? Can you get everyone to kill each other simply by breaking their schedule?
Example: what if you took all the food in the city and placed it in one district or guards chest? Would the peasants revolt and raid to get the food? Or maybe you remove a guard so another cannot talk to them to change shifts? Or when an npc is scheduled to pick mushrooms in the woods… they can’t find any because you picked all of them and placed them in the baggers bag? Or maybe you steal everything from npcs and place the items on other npcs? Or maybe you just gather alot of stuff and dump it in one spot to see what happens? Call it littterbombing.
Really enjoying your channel so far
Thank you for the support! :)
Yes, I have noticed the thing with weapons myself. Daggers and bare hands literally always lose and two-handed weapons always win, but you can't determine it as you can't see their gear before the betting, just like you mentioned. So it is pretty much random with betting.
Yup! Exactly!
9:30 pal was sent to the shadow realm
😂 It was too wild I just had to keep it in lol
Two-handed weapons literally built different.
😂 apparently! The iron battle axe overpowering an elven long sword is impressive to me!
8:23 this makes sense: I never ever won money by betting. Quite true to life accurate if you ask me.
dang, thats one handsome wood elf youre playing
99% of gamblers quit before making it big. FACT
😂 it is a fact!
Next video: can you win big by dealing skooma?
That would be a great one! 😂
That could be fun. Here, let’s expand on this:
What if you beat oblivion relying solely on alchemy, stealth, and mercantile? You’re like Walter white. No combat, no spells, just strong brews.
I'm curious if you bet, then save then enter and watch a fight then load and reenter and watch a fight if the load outs will be the same, and if so if the same combatant will always win. I'm also curious if saving right before the bet has any impact.
That’s a great question and something I’ll have to try and look into!
Guess that depends when exactly their equipment is determined. Is it fixed once you bet, once you enter the arena proper, on a trigger later?
Speaking of luck, what else does it affect? I always wondered that. I assumed it would affect things like loot inside chests and such but I never confirmed it.
It gives you a bonus to your stats at some level. If you have negative luck, it reduces your stats. You can get negative luck by casting a spell from a certain wizard without protection.
^^^ Exactly! Plus I believe it also determines potential for critical hits, mama casted for spells and armor defence is what I read!
good video. so to sum it up. be 40th level to win a couple of hundred gold. no thanks!
Always bet on the blue team
😂 we have to represent the home crowd!
I think your sample data is to small
While 30 isn’t a super large amount, I feel like I could’ve done 50-100 matches and still ended up with the same evidence, maybe just a little more concrete!
yayyy a new one your videos are great! this cant be your first youtube channel
Thank you I really appreciate it! And that’s correct! I’ve had a few before this one, but none as passionate as this one!
