You had me at oatmeal ❤ you mentioned lunch room ladies. I grew up in South Carolina and many of the lunch room ladies were neighbors and went to our Baptist Church and boy could they cook. They were like mommas at school. They took great care in all those wonderful meals from scratch they made… I was lucky to have great homemade lunches for 12 years. My kids and grands are not as lucky with the so called school Lunch nowadays . It’s like they done away with hot lunch at many schools . They get junk food(pizza, etc)and cold lunches🥲 Some of our kids would benefit today with a great home cooked meal. I wish it was mandatory. It was in the south when I was in school not sure about other parts of the country. God Bless all the wonderful lunch ladies . We were so lucky❤
Yeah, I grew up and still live in South Carolina. I went to a small elementary school that only went to the 6th grade. The ladies who worked in the lunch room were all local ladies, friends and neighbors and yeah they could really cook. The very best turkey dressing I have ever ate was what the lunch room ladies made. This was in the late 60's to early 70's.
Grew up on the west coast and we had the option to buy school lunches in elementary school. There was a full kiisnd they made the food there. We got a schedule ahead of time so if u liked what they had I could buy lunch And other times I brought from home I'm pretty sure in junior high and highschool we could still get school lunches. When my kids were in school they had the food brought in.
Lifelong Texan and this was staple years ago but I had forgotten about it! I was young and loved it! Cant wait to try it tomorrow when our son comes by! He wants fried salmon and Mom’s creamed potatoes and cornbread! I saw your fried okra post and decided on that! He loves what i call dish pan salad ( you cut it up in an enamel dish pan and use all veggies in fridge) and homemade sweet cornbread! May not be proper healthy food but he doesn’t get to come often! I was thinking I would make a chocolate pie and now I’m in a quandary! I want to cook this but chocolate is his favorite and our hen eggs make such beautiful meringue! I guess I will wait until Wed to do this one because he will take leftovers home! Lol
Cooks at St. Peter's Hospital in Helena, Montana were baking this back in 1976. It was a favorite with staff and visitors to the cafeteria. I had gotten the recipe from them but somehow it was lost. Thanks so much for printing it here!
Thank you lady! Me and my granddaughter love pecan pie. And oatmeal. And coconut. And maple. So weird this showed up because I've been planning on pecan pie. This looks so yummy! God bless and take care🙏🏼💗🥥🌰🥞🥧
I have made oatmeal pie before but do not recall putting coconut into it (although I could be wrong since it was a long time ago), but everything else sounds the same. I believe the recipe I made was a request made by a reader of Gourmet Magazine from a restaurant he ate at which served it, and the restaurant obliged. It tasted very good, but the one you demonstrated sounds even better. I am surprised that you didn't have this recipe yourself already. Hey, Tammy, Cal & Marie from the Southern Country Living channel mentioned that you were in their neck.of the woods recently, I think to attend a festival, and you gave one.of their relatives a free cookbook that you compiled and that your mother was a professonal baker, something I didn't know before Your gesture was a very nice one and one that was appreciated by them since they drew attention to it. I envy them for getting such a treasure!
Your pie meets all my requirements! What a wonderful recipe .I had to edit my comment to say ,” Thank You “ for putting the recipe right there where I could easily copy it!
Looks great--love coconut! Going to try this plant-based as I have a family history of Cancer so need to avoid the estrogen and possible BLV in dairy and choline and lead in eggs. Thanks for sharing
I’m wondering what would happen if you put just a handful of chocolate chips in the mix. It may not go with the molasses but to have oatmeal, coconut, pecans and chocolate chips sounds heavenly.
Those little white spots in eggs are stabilizers that keep the yolk in the center of the egg. It’s normal, google it. I love your cooking videos, you cook like momma did.
Oh, Shazam!!! Big ol' Texas Oatmeal Pie!! I love it! It's so good with unsweetened strong iced tea!!! Thanks Tammy. I'm gonna make one this week! Tonya from Dallas....Texas that is!!
Centerville I believe is what your thinking of by Fredericksburg Texas. Center Texas is maybe about 30-45 minutes from Louisiana. I grew up in Hemphill which is about 30 minutes South of Center. I may be off on the exact times, because I have not lived in the area for over 35 years, but I visit several times a year.
I don't think we're talking about the same place. Fredericksburg Tx, and Kirrville,Tx are located north west of San Antonio,TX. Not close to Louisiana at all.

Pecans, coconut & oats ... a few of my favorite things! Thank you for sharing this recipe. I'm loving these old random cookbook recipes you're sharing. 👍🏻 Your butterfly shirt is super cute on you. 😊❤
All my favorite ingredients ❣️ I love Oatmeal Cookies and I love Pecan Pie, so why not😊 The only thing that worries me...I'll end up "hurtin' myself" 🥧 Just a thought...what about topped with Chocolate Whipped Cream?
That looks delicious! ❤I'm going to try it. Just curious, what year was the cookbook published? I hope I didn't miss it in the video....update: hi Tammy never mind... found it online.🎉 Recipe from 1968!! Wow!! Older recipes are the best!! ❤🎉❤🎉❤ thanks for sharing!!
I don't really like oatmeal but I do like oatmeal cookies so I think I'll try this. As usual when I'm trying a new recipe I'm already thinking of ways to improve it before I even start. I'll let you know how it turns out. btw, I think if your pie had completely there would not have been that liquid at the bottom
This is a unique and awesome recipe I can’t wait to make this one ☝🏾 I wonder how would it taste 👅 if you would use a cup of Buttermilk or carnation milk instead Thanks for sharing this quick a easy recipe
My much loved DIL has diverticulitis and cannot eat nuts. She loves pecan pie so I make Oatmeal Pie (no nuts, no coconut) and she gets to enjoy a very close-to-pecan pie experience. Hmmm. Maybe next pie I will add 1/4 c. Chocolate chips.
Thank you 😊 I just followed your recipe after watching a couple times. You give me a warm feeling of down home Texas but I am far North of there. I had to substitute for the milk I didn’t have but used yogurt. And the Karo I used pure Maple syrup instead and nixed the maple flavor as that was built in but wish me luck it’s in the oven now so I should know in about an hour. Thanks again!
I read that the original oatmeal pie came about during the Great Depression. A shortage of pecans ( pecan trees not bearing) caused the women to substitute a cheaper ingredient to make the pie. I have a bunch of Southern Living recipe books, I wish that I could find a copy of that one.
I just made it and it is so delicious! It is like a cross between a coconut pie and a pecan pie. I made a mistake though. On the recipe page, I didn’t notice that the eggs were listed way above the rest of the ingredients. So I missed out on the eggs, but it turned out really well anyhow. I used Marie Callender frozen piecrust for convenience because hers are pretty flaky. This is a good easy pie and I would make it again. Easy peasy! 😊
We used to have this pie twice a month and my mom would use leftover oatmeal from breakfast we used stone ground. I miss that pie we had it this way to thank you and god bless !
I’ve never heard of this pie but you can bet I’m going to make it as soon as I can get some coconut. Thanks, Tammy, for sharing this recipe! I’m late in seeing this video but I hear on one of the latest ones that you have COVID again. So sorry this has happened to you. Take care of yourself. Sounds like Chris is doing his best to look after you! You are blessed to have a husband who can cook!
Tammy, I would love to see you make a Depression Era 'Water Pie'; water, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, 5 pats of butter and a few tbls of flour. Also a 'Shoofly Pie' PLEASE! P.S. direct link for the handled Batter Bowl/XL Measuring cup
I love everything oatmeal. Make a pot of homemade oatmeal. Put it in your bowl make a little nest in the middle add sugar and milk. Yum. Yum. Also syrup is great on oatmeal. Thanks for this video Tammy❤
Thanks for sharing Oatmeal and coconut pie recipe . Looks just like a pecan pie . I know I'm going to enjoy this pie . I love coconut and pecan pie. Tammy and Chris hope your staying warm .❤❤❤❤❤
Tammy, this one looks like a winner. I have a recipe for oatmeal pie but it doesn’t have coconut or pecans in it. I am going to bake this one late this week. I just took half a dozen mincemeat tarts out of the oven. I was using a frozen mincemeat from Christmas. I love your channel
Hi Tammy!!! Your pie looks super yummy!!! I will be making this one day soon. Im sure I will like it. I have never had it...Thanks for this recipe... YUMS!!!...Nice Video!!!...🦋
Oh My 😋 😋 I've Been Craving Oatmeal For Over A Month Now 😅 This Look's Like It Would Definitely Satisfy My Craving..Thank's For Sharing Ms.Tammy..Be Blessed ❤😊
This pie looks awesome! I was wondering how long do you wait for when baking the pie before you put the pie crust guard on to keep the edges from getting too brown? Have a blessed day!
Oh my goodness tammy! I got a birthday coming up on Monday the 12th.. I have got to make this for my birthday. I love pecan pie, and I also love coconut pie! Girlfriend I'm definitely making this one for sure. Thank you sweetie for the recipe . Many blessings to you and your family!
My wife makes a pie with karo syrup and oatmeal no coconut or nuts and she calls it poor man's pecan pie. Fabulous.
Ovd😊

Make him the chocolate pie
Oatmeal pie is very good and lunches were so good back in the day the old school still smells like those homade rolls
Your measuring cup is huge! And your theme song is EPIC. 😊

Mix the sugar and flour first and skip the lumps!
This pie looks tasty!
This is one of the best look6 pies I've seen in a long time!

Good find....looks like a winner

Lead in eggs? What the?
I’m wondering what would happen if you put just a handful of chocolate chips in the mix. It may not go with the molasses but to have oatmeal, coconut, pecans and chocolate chips sounds heavenly.
Southern living has some of the best recipes.
My mom made this pie years ago! It tastes just like pecan pie!
Thanks so much for this recipe!!❤️
My garsh that's quite a stove I have a wood burning cook stove no where near the knobs & burners you have but can't wait to try
Those little white spots in eggs are stabilizers that keep the yolk in the center of the egg. It’s normal, google it.
I love your cooking videos, you cook like momma did.
She's talking about the little dark spot. Mine did that but I had a rooster and it was the start of a baby chick!
Oh, Shazam!!! Big ol' Texas Oatmeal Pie!! I love it! It's so good with unsweetened strong iced tea!!! Thanks Tammy. I'm gonna make one this week!
Tonya from Dallas....Texas that is!!
You can mix together sugar and flour before you put in mixing bowl. It's faster.
Looks delicious. What brand of stove is that. Looks very nice.

I know where Center Tx is, right outside Kerrville, Tx and Fredericksburg, Tx. I think , that was an old Home Economics recipe.

What is Kirk syrup ?
I really appreciate every time you share tips! Thank you!❤
Pecans, coconut & oats ... a few of my favorite things! Thank you for sharing this recipe. I'm loving these old random cookbook recipes you're sharing. 👍🏻
Your butterfly shirt is super cute on you. 😊❤
What is the Kiro syrup ? Is it like molasses ?
No, it's just corn syrup made with brown sugar. I guess instead of regular white sugar it is not as strong as molasses
It is cane syrup
Ok Thank you . I don’t if I can get that in Canada .
I which you would show your kitchen I’m always looking for ideas
All my favorite ingredients ❣️
I love Oatmeal Cookies and I love Pecan Pie, so why not😊
The only thing that worries me...I'll end up "hurtin' myself" 🥧
Just a thought...what about topped with Chocolate Whipped Cream?
Great pie video, thank you
I wonder if there’s a substitute for the corn syrup? I prefer to avoid corn syrup.
Use brown sugar
thank you, I was wondering too.
same amount?
Yes@@KD-mv8uf
Thank you for sharing❤ I will have to make this weekend for my husband❤
Anything with oats, pecans, and coconut has got to be scrumptious! Gotta make this pie! 🥧
How long did you bake? Temperature too?❤
1 hour at 350 F 😊
The written recipe is in the description for you

If you toast the oatmeal gently it will give them a nutty flavor for the pie.
Good. Morning. That. Pie. Look. So. Good. Never. Hear. Of. It
That pie looks delicious!❤
I really appreciate you every time you share one of my favorite recipes .again, I want to thank you .

I used to make the oatmeal pies but I didn’t use coconut. That sounds very interesting. I must try it.

Thanks for sharing the recipe! 🤗♥️🍀 I’m going to add a tablespoon Or two of bourbon & see how it turns out.😋 Thanks again Tammy 🥰
I would have beaten the eggs to start with, then add the other ingredients. Add the flour to the sugar and the salt.
That was to pretty to slice into. Thanks for sharing it with us.
