Heartbreaking the INTENSITY, we don't get this anymore. I was lucky to see Baltsa as Santuzza, Carmen etc. and she was a FIREBRAND. The Callas GREEK FIRE still burned bright. And Carreras...the PHRASING, the ELEGANCE....unbelievable.
I saw Baltsa in Dalila, Carmen in Barcelona and she was always savage, clever and great ! Carreras here is brave and both creates an straordinary duetto !!!!

Aveva tutto: timbro e fraseggio da giovane seduttore, accento adatto al repertorio verista quanto a quello verdiano, spiccata musicalità e - dato evidente a chi lo abbia sentito in teatro - una insospettabile potenza: fino ai primi anni Novanta, la sua voce risuonava come una tromba!
