‘Vengeance Most Fowl’ Review | Peak Aardman?
HAPPY 2025, EVERYONE!!! This year is gonna have a more steady flow of content than last year and, hopefully, a better flow of quality! Hope y’all enjoy the first video of this new era!
If you watched my Best Animated Feature ranking, you’ll know Wallace & Gromit in The Curse of The Were-Rabbit! was a film I really liked. I’d make an argument for it being the funniest film on that list, or at least tied with Spider-Verse. And, unlike Spider-Verse, I remembered while making that video that Wallace and Gromit have a sequel coming out soon: Vengeance Most Fowl. Considering 2024 was pretty underwhelming for big-budget animation studios, with the only real exceptions being The Wild Robot, Inside Out 2, Transformers, and technically Piece By Piece, I was hoping the UK’s premiere stop motion studio could pull some great move and make something, at least, on level with those three. So, to kick off the New Year and the award season, let’s talk about this Golden Globe and likely-Oscar nominee.

The Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, first issued in 2001 with Shrek, Monsters Inc, and Jimmy Neutron. In the over 20 years since this first award, the category has been heavily critiqued and is probably the biggest issue most people have with the Oscars. Is Beetlejuice Beetlejuice A Worthwhile Sequel?

BURTON IS SO BACK, BABY!!! A director I haven’t talked about much on this channel is Tim Burton. He’s somebody who made several childhood favorites of mine. But this year marks the first time I’ve seen his cult classic film Beetlejuice, and I get why it’s so beloved. It’s funny, heartwarming, well made, well acted, and an absolute riot in terms of comedy and spooky aura. This year also marks th...
A Needle Drop Video That Turned Into A James Gunn Obsession

Needle drops are when a film or filmmaker uses already existing music in their project, to usually add to a scene in a dramatic, comedic, or emotional way. And in my opinion, the best needle drops should be used in a film in one of three unique ways and there is one filmmaker in particular that uses these to the best degree possible! THE FOLLOWING VIDEO CONTAINS MINOR/MAJOR SPOILERS OF THE FOLL...
Furiosa | An Underrated MAD MAX Gem
Переглядів 4506 місяців тому
If you know me personally, you know that I adore MAD MAX: Fury Road. Everything about it is insane and awe-inspiring! This movie easily slipped its way into my top 10. So when I remembered about the newest addition in this franchise, Furiosa, I was super excited. There was no way Miller was gonna make something better than Fury Road, but it had all the right factors to still be great. Subscribe...

I'd strongly recommend, "Hayo Miyazaki and the Heron," the documentary focused on Miyazaki and the 6-yr long journey of making the Boy and the Heron! Great added context and it pretty much reveals the real-life metaphors behind each main character in the film. I'd also recommend the YT vid I saw not long after seeing it in theaters: ua-cam.com/video/jI-Hdlpz7VU/v-deo.html Enjoyed ur ranking! 😁
Just an fyi Miyazaki isn’t the old uncle at the end or whatever that character is I believe that’s isao takahata and Miyazaki is the boy and the film is him reliving his life abstractly
I don’t know how you’re able to implement HDR onto this video but it’s lovely to look at!!
i looked at my ai inspiration stuff and one of the videos ideas were called "how to get the psuhmjp.mov ending in real life" 💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀
I think having an Animated Feature category helps give a platform to films that might not otherwise get that attention - would Memoir of a Snail or Flow get such attention otherwise? I think if an animated film hits the right notes then it will get nominated for Best Picture, like Toy Story 3 and Up did.
Princess Mononoke is also Miyazaki - so you've seen at least three of his films, but keep going, there's lots more Ghibli to enjoy. And thanks for the video.
Sorry but spirited away is 100% number one lmao. Spiderman doesn't come close lmao. Sorry but horrible take and Studio ghibli>>>>>Pixar
@tomgu2285 I get that, that film is MAGICAL. And I just now saw those films for the first time for this ranking and got Spirited Away on Blu Ray for Christmas, so I’ll definitely rewatch it soon. And it might find itself higher on this list.
You’re definitely a zoomer, but this is a really good video! Ratatouille, The Boy and the Heron, Wallace and Gromit: Curse of the Were-Rabbit, Toy Story 3, and Spirited Away would have to be my top five.
@@monkeyangelo717 Thanks, but what does be being Gen-Z have to do with anything?
@ Respectfully and remember I really like the content, I think there are a lot of times you bring politics into the argument to be trendy and your recency bias is pretty strong. I don’t think anyone is really saying Foreign Films shouldn’t be winning awards - maybe that’s my optimism, but most cinephiles I know think international features are a lot better than what’s being created in the US. Sexism, xenophobia, racism can be elements of these movies and these terrible things exist but I’d caution using them as reasons someone didn’t like a movie. You can push your audience of non-sexist, non-racist, non-xenophobic people away who just want to hear about the films themselves. I hope you keep making content.
@@monkeyangelo717 I get all that. I just know lots of people who don’t watch foreign media because it’s foreign, including some people in my family. Though, I do live in the south US and a lot of that area has a fair amount of people who aren’t into filmmaking as much as I or some of my friends are.
If Brave or Toy Story 4 should have never won the Oscar on purpose, give it the Moonlight and La La Land treatment but with Klaus and Wreck It Ralph instead winning the Oscar
Cool
36:17 Soul is the 4th Disney film in 20 years to have a protag of color turn into an animal. Emperor's New Groove, Brother Bear, and The Princess and the Frog all did. The horrible trend is my only real issue with Soul.
@LorenaS-r4j Exactly my take. Hoping the new Tiana series on Disney Plus will focus on her human life and explore being a businesswomen pre-The Great Depression.
Heres my ranking 1. Ratatouille 2. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 3. Wall-E 4. Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio 5. Spirited Away 6. Inside Out 7. The Incredibles 8. Soul 9. Zootopia 10. Coco 11. Shrek 12. Toy Story 3 13. The Boy and the Heron 14. Finding Nemo 15. Up 16. Wallace and Gromit 17. Big Hero 6 18. Encanto 19. Rango 20. Frozen 21. Toy Story 4 22. Happy Feet 23. Brave
1. The Brutalist 2. Dune Part Two 3. The Wild Robot 4. Deadpool & Wolverine 5. A Real Pain 6. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 7. Anora 8. Conclave 9. Inside Out 2 10. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes
Good ranking! Plan to watch Conclave sometime soon!
Mark my words, Inside Out 2 will win Best Animated Feature at the 2025 Oscars
God I hope not, they've been on a streak these past two years, I'm sure they'll recognize the quality of either Look Back, Flow, or The Wild Robot at the very least
@Webbyhx Look Back seems unlikely. But The Wild Robot and Flow feel like joint favourites right now. Let's see what gets nominated.
Give me your lists here in the comments! And any 2024 films I watch after this video comes out will be added to this comment(along with where it’ll rank on the actual list) - Musica makes me wanna fart and laugh and cry and scream and do everything all at once. (8.5/10) - The newest Wallace and Gromit movie reminded me that this silly British duo has lore and I was uncomfortable. (8.5/10) - Evil Does Not Exist was probably the second best shot and edited film from the year and had such an intriguing story and ending. (9/10) - Juror #2 was kinda peak fiction and my first Clint Eastwood film, somehow. Nicholas Hoult and Toni Collette were phenomenal! (8.5/10) - Red One is a D-Tier Phase 2 MARVEL Movie despite not even being a MARVEL Movie. (4/10)
The algorithm recommended me your video and I enjoyed it dude. You are clearly fresh into your cinephile journey, so enjoy the ride. I have also made a video ranking the winners plus the nominees because I watched every film nominated, but I am not going to release it until the next ceremony has been which will be at the end of March since it’ll be out of date if I do. Inside Out 2 is not the front runner by the way it’s between The Wild Robot and Flow. The Academy doesn’t care that it made a billion dollars, they didn’t nominate the Super Mario Bros movie from last year or any of the Despicable Me films, aside from the 2nd one. George Miller also isn’t getting nominated this year or winning dude, it’s between The Brutalist, Anora and Conclave this year, with Wicked and Dune 2 probably cleaning up the technical awards. I agree with your assessment on Soul, Frozen and Elemental. I think Elemental get’s unfairly treated, I thought the film was very relatable. My rankings are very different to yours, but I love hearing other opinions so great job. Keep it up, do a video on your favourite films or something like that.
@@thedudewhomadethisvideo So glad people are giving Flow and Thr Wild Robot the representation they ABSOLUTELY deserve! Since I recorded most of this video, I’ve seen more of the Oscar discourse. And thanks so much for the kind words!!
Whatever people may say about "Frozen," it touched me, and I was pleased that such an emotional film became a phenomenon. Now I just hope that "The Boy and the Heron" inspires Disney to reawaken their emotional roots and get the execs to stop hindering their creatives.
I'm surprised to see Finding Nemo ranked so low and that's the harshest critique I've seen on it but I respect your opinion on it. Also unpopular opinion perhaps and I respect your opinion on Frozen but I think the award in my opinion that year should have gone to Ernest and Celestine which is by the way my personal favorite animated film which I highly recommend if you haven't seen it. I was very happy to see the praise for Ratatouille though which is still also my favorite Pixar film and I agree Fantastic Mr. Fox was snubbed
Have both of the Ernest & Celestine movies on my watchlist, but to be fair, I also have Oppenheimer on there, so I’ve got a lot I need to see. 💀
It’s sad to say that the ones that don’t win end up being forgotten in the cartoon wasteland From Epic Mickey. Nimona was robbed, robbed I tell you!
good video
Bruhhh you were six when big hero 6 came out 😮
Rango is seriously underrated despite the Oscar win.
Toy Story 4 winning 2019 is an insult to me as a Toy Story fan
Same. Klaus or HTTYD 3 are better.
@@ironpaddington7 Klaus, yeah, but IMO Hidden World was a bigger disappointment than Toy Story 4. I still think Missing Link should have won, with Klaus at a close second
Klaus was the ONLY choice that year. HtTyD 3 was a fine enough movie and had a perfect ending, but Klaus STILL makes me cry at the end, the animation is so unique, the story is funny, heartfelt, and unique. It's a perfect movie. F the toy story franchise, it won it based SIMPLY on name only.
I would have voted for I Lost My Body out of those nominated. But Tux and Fanny is my favourite animated film from 2019.
Monsters Inc should have won for best animated feature film! I will live and die on that hill!
Some feedback since your new, it’s very clear who you’re replicating in your style- down to the exact same prince of Egypt director line. Find an identity beyond the crab man and with the work you put into this; you’ll do well.
Re: Brave -- those triplets are horrible, whether in human or in bear form. Take them out of the film, and you have a better story -- a story in which Merida is being groomed to rule a kingdom, not make a political marriage. Elinor's character becomes so much more sympathetic if her motives are the former rather than the latter. Plus, we lose that absolutely tasteless "invasion of the bodice" gag, which is wrong on every level. 16:22: I know The LEGO Movie is everyone's darling, but I would have loved seeing the award go to either The Tale of Princess Kaguya or Song of the Sea -- the two brilliant films a supposedly intelligent Academy voter dismissed as "Chinese f***ing things" while complaining about The LEGO Movie's snub. 21:41: As much as I enjoy the How to Train Your Dragon franchise, I would have given the Oscar that year to Klaus instead of Toy Story 4. From Spirited Away to The Boy and the Heron is too long a stretch between winners that 1) use 2D animation and 2) aren't part of a franchise. 36:20: Can we take a minute to discuss the wrongness of a calico cat being called MR. Whiskers? Was nobody on Pixar's creative team at the time aware that over 90% of calico cats are female? This shows some major dedication to the concept of Male As Default (as in, when a character's gender isn't relevant to the plot, that character is automatically male; see also, the entirely male colony of dogs in "Up" and the absence of female rats from "Ratatouille").
Respect for the Rango placement

I agree with this guy but this youtuber at least made a better full on review and opinion on each film than making each ranking feel more like a meme.
I’ll add to this pinned comment every time a new movie wins and say what I think about its win and where I’d rank it.
16:25 personally, up! is a movie that climbed my rankings as I grew older and experienced grief from someone close to me passing away as a kid and teenager, the first minutes of the movie hit the hardest - and as an adult it still makes me tear up -, but nowadays the last act of the movie hits way deeper; seeing carl finally accepting he has to let go of the past to experience the future has me sobbing, it is so masterfully done I think it would probably lend on a 12 in my personal list, that’s how much it grew on me after rewatching it recently
@@julesucodecaixinha I get why it works for so many people, and it works for those reasons for me too, but I feel like the moments that aren’t focusing on the main themes drag it down. Still a good movie and I’m glad it means so much to you and anyone else reading. 🩵
Puss in Boots 2 is one of my favorite films of all time too! Please make a review
